00:00 Introductie 02:19 Persoonlijk Nieuws Overzicht
Graeme Simpfendorfer was a decorated Victorian police officer. He used good old-fashioned policing to convict an arsonist who deliberately lit a fire in a shopping strip on the NSW/Victoria border. His hunch proved right. Later, Graeme worked in the prestigious Victorian Police Homicide Squad, where he obtained two departmental commendations for solving difficult, high-profile murders. Graeme tells host Brent Sanders about solving the arson case and how he helped put a man behind bars in relation to an infamous roadside armed hold-up, 27 years after the crime occurred. On December 7, 2003, 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe left his home in Sunshine Coast, Australia to go Christmas shopping for his family at the Sunshine Plaza shopping center. Daniel was last seen at the Sunbus bus stop near his home around 2 pm, but after that no one ever saw Daniel alive again. Daniel's case would become the biggest police investigation in Queensland history, yet it would take 8+ years for them to solve it. This July marks the 10th anniversary that a 2.0 Disney California Adventure was re-dedicated by Bob Iger. At the expense of some 1.1 billion dollars, this was at the time the most comprehensive park redo ever attempted. Still, in the first year of re-opening, park attendance went up some 23% and it became far more equal in terms of balancing out the number of guests visiting it and its sister park, Disneyland. We will look at the attractions, restaurants and experiences that became extinct as a result of this re-investment, particularly as it relates the Golden Gateway and Sunshine Plaza, Bountiful Family Farm, and Paradise Pier. We'll look at all that went away, and what ultimately came in its place 10 years ago and later. Ray Spencer found out early on that his talent as a conceptual designer could be put to use, not for creating office buildings and shopping malls, but experiences. Since then he’s never looked back. With a career that spans decades of work, fleshing out ideas for places like the Field Museum in Chicago to Kennedy Space Center, Ray finally found himself an Imagineer at Disney where he helped implement some of the biggest changes in the reimagining of California Adventure. Ray sat down with host Nathan Hartman to talk about his love of trains, the creative reworking of Sunshine Plaza into Buena Vista St. and how he brought the Haunted Mansion’s Hatbox Ghost back from the dead. This week, we offer some Mousetalgia Therapy regarding the loss of A Bug's Land, and then we take a look back at the history of Disney California Adventure. Has DCA gone full Meg Ryan? Is basing a land on properties focused on violent activities a good idea? We also discuss the ghosts of DCA; from the Soap Opera Cafe to Sunshine Plaza, we'll take a walk down memory lane and remember the attractions that have come and gone. We'll also discuss the nighttime entertainment from Glowfest to tea parties - and we'll take a look at the continuing evolution of Disneyland's sibling park. Also - Jeff reads yet another article, this one about Herb Ryman and the 49 elephants. Plus - Boxlunch picnic baskets, Disney at Nordstrom, and Tron Lego!
