Welcome back to Capture The Magic! This week we're diving into all the latest Disney World news and there's honestly so much happening right now. First up, Disney just dropped their complete 4th of July food and drink guide and wow, there are some seriously patriotic treats coming our way. We're talking red, white and blue everything across all four parks. Plus we finally got more details about what to expect story-wise when Monstropolis opens at Magic Kingdom. The new land is going to be way more immersive than we initially thought. Speaking of new stuff, Toy Story 5 is bringing some cool passholder perks to Hollywood Studios, and everyone can grab that new Bullseye popcorn bucket. But if you wanted that Lightning McQueen popcorn bucket that just dropped, good luck because it sold out almost immediately. Classic Disney popcorn bucket chaos strikes again. Over at EPCOT, La Poutinerie is opening July 1st and we've got the full menu with pricing. Spoiler alert, it's not exactly budget-friendly but those loaded fries look incredible. And if you've been wanting to do brunch at Citricos, now's your chance since they're moving the Grand Floridian Cafe brunch over there. We're also reviewing those Mickey churro waffles from Spyglass Grill that everyone's been talking about, plus we tried some of the new Bluey treats at Pizzafari. Let's just say one of us was way more excited about Bluey than the other. Plus we're chatting about our recent park experiences including that busy Animation Courtyard, the updated Smuggler's Run experience with Mando and Grogu, and why Soarin' Across America hits different every single time. Make sure to comment with your thoughts on all this Disney World news, smash that like button if you're excited about any of these updates, subscribe if you haven't already, and definitely hit that notification bell so you never miss an episode! Cool Kids Summer is back at Walt Disney World in 2026, and it's better than ever. On May 26, all four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom) opened new attractions to kick off the summer season. These include Jessie's Roundup, Goofycore, Soarin' Across America, Bluey's Wild World, Magic of Disney Animation (including Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live), Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run featuring The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster: Starring the Muppets. This is in addition to Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which recently reopened with major enhancements and upgrades. In this episode, I share my honest review of Cool Kids Summer thanks to a week-long preview hosted by Disney Parks. We're recapping a wild Walt Disney World weekend that included car camping at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, trying out Lightning Lane Multi Pass over two full park days, eating our way around property, and finally getting to experience newly reopened attractions like Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster, Smuggler's Run, Big Thunder Mountain, Space Ranger Spin, and Soarin. We'll talk about the realities of Disney car camping, including setup, comfort, requesting the perfect campsite near the comfort station, nighttime campground vibes, and whether we'd actually do it again. Along the way, we packed in a ton of attractions across Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios, including Tower of Terror, Toy Story Mania, TRON, Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and more. Of course, there's also plenty of food discussion, including breakfast at Steakhouse 71, drinks and snacks at The Beak and Barrel, flatbreads at Baseline Tap House, dinner at Trail's End Restaurant, and an impromptu brunch stop at Chef Art Smith's Homecomin' before heading home. We'll break down what worked, what didn't, and whether this entire Disney weekend adventure was truly worth it. Watch our car camping "room" tour here!
Disney has reimagined several of its rides and attractions for Summer 2026, so we share our reviews for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, Soarin' Across America, Smugglers Run with Mandalorian and Grogu, new Animation Courtyard and more! Big thank you to Walt Disney World for inviting me for media previews, especially since it allowed me to ride Rock 'n' Roller Coaster enough to (nearly) get every song! This week on The Gay Mix, the show opens in classic form — Adam's mixer is haunted by a poltergeist that only Daniel can hear, forcing him to do both halves of the intro like a one-man vaudeville act while narrating the technical difficulties in real time. It's the kind of barely-controlled chaos that reminds you this is live radio, baby, and nobody's editing it. Daniel then takes us to Disney World for not one but two exclusive previews — the new Soarin' Over America film (sesquicentennial! semi-sesqueent! whatever!) and the Muppets re-theme of Rock and Roller Coaster, which he loved so much he almost threw up. It turns out our bodies betray us in our forties, and Daniel has joined the ranks of gays who can no longer ride roller coasters without feeling it for hours afterward. A profound loss for the community. The Survivor 50 finale gets a proper postmortem, complete with Daniel's righteous fury about Jonathan being "just the man taking credit for the women's work" and the truly cringeworthy moment where Stephanie turned her jury question into a campaign rally. But the real showstopper is Jeff Probst accidentally spoiling the fire-making competition live by calling Rizzo to the jury before the footage aired, then scrambling to rebrand his blunder as a brand new twist called "See the Future." Daniel's physical reaction to watching someone fuck up on live television is worth the price of admission alone. Meanwhile, Stephen Colbert said goodbye after eleven years, the Pope refused to come out of his dressing room over a Chicago hot dog dispute, and Daniel cried. Of course he cried. That's what he does. The News Game delivers a rare and glorious 5-for-5 sweep — Daniel nails everything from the Justice Department's absurd $1.776 billion Trump ally fund to Elon Musk getting laughed out of court for missing a deadline. The Birthdays segment nearly breaks Daniel's brain as he spirals into an existential celebrity sorting crisis: is that voice the pale ginger with the loop pedal, or is it the gay one who sings about staying with me? Adam calmly confirms the gay angle, then drops Ed Sheeran's age — 34 — like it's nothing. Daniel, who has admittedly been drinking, is genuinely floored. Add in a dinner with Jean featuring a window-raccoon, Cher turning 80 (she's 49, argue with the wall), Mr. T at 74 still doing the same jokes, and the celebrity death phone pot climbing to $111, and you've got an episode that careens from tender friendship confession to chaotic celebrity confusion with the elegance of a trash panda on a restaurant balcony.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice/SMS: 707-613-3284

The Hot Take Hoedown is officially here — and the "Sons of Sandusky" are already $150 richer. This week Mike and EB debut their brand new segment featuring the spiciest opinions from around the theme park internet — and then decide whether each one is a genuine hot take, a bad take, or just something EB has been saying for years. Is Iron Gwazi actually better than VelociCoaster? Did Cedar Point peak in 2001? Should Space Mountain at Walt Disney World be permanently retired? Are RMC conversions a net negative for the industry? Was Epcot better before it had roller coasters? EB has thoughts on all of them. Some of them are his own. Before the Hoedown though — Cedar Point's Millennium Force has a seat belt problem and Tony Clark is blaming Intamin. NightFlight Expedition at Dollywood has quietly removed "spring 2026" from its website and now just says "2026." Soarin' Across America has opened at Epcot and it's getting the full Mike and EB treatment — spoiler, the lawn is not that green on the DC Mall. Montezooma's Revenge train has arrived at Knott's Berry Farm but enthusiasts are already upset about the over-the-shoulder restraints. And the Mystical Fountain at Lost Continent says goodbye — though Mike has a CoasterDamus prediction about where it ends up. The Hot Take Hoedown closes with one final take that might be the most genuinely interesting of the night — does consuming too much theme park content rob you of the ability to experience parks with wonder? And is "the price of expertise is the loss of wonder" the new Coaster Radio tagline? One thing is certain. EB wants to wrap up with the theme song. The Sons of Sandusky are standing by.
This week on Where We Roam, we're talking location, location, location with a Disney Resort Showdown featuring three of our favorite Walt Disney World resorts close to the parks: Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, and Disney's Yacht Club Resort. But first, Dayna joins us live from Disney's Hollywood Studios with a Disney Parks update, including her experience riding Soarin' Across America at EPCOT and the anticipation around Muppets Electric Mayhem taking over Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Then we go head-to-head-to-head with three very different Disney deluxe resorts. Animal Kingdom Lodge brings the savanna views, incredible theming, and some of the best resort dining at Disney World. The Polynesian delivers Monorail access, tropical vibes, Magic Kingdom convenience, and classic Disney nostalgia. Yacht Club brings the EPCOT resort area, walkability, Stormalong Bay, and easy access to both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. We rank each resort across the categories that matter most: location and transportation, theme and atmosphere, room size and layout, food and beverage, pools and amenities, and overall value. Which Disney resort wins when location is the name of the game? Listen in as we debate three Walt Disney World favorites and crown our winner.
How else to title this? Ha! Basically, which rides are and are not worth waiting in line for? Some have physically long lines that move quickly, others just happen to be entirely worth a long wait. How much do you agree with our lists? Plus a first peek at destinations for Soarin' Across America when it premieres at Disneyland later this year! Disney dropped a surprising amount of news this week, and somehow all of it points toward something Disney fans have been missing for a long time: personality. On this episode, we break down the new "Project Fedora" permits at Disney's Hollywood Studios and discuss what Disney may actually be planning for the future of Indy inside the parks. Is Disney quietly turning Indiana Jones into one of its next major theme park franchises? We also dive into the massive new reveals for Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets including: first-look attraction photos, the new Scooter Audio-Animatronics figure, Electric Mayhem concert vibes, merchandise, and Swedish Chef food chaos Plus, previews of the new Soarin' Over America footage have been posted and we give our reactions to Disney bringing back "nostalgic" experience. Disney may finally be bringing back the vibes. Ask us any questions about what we have discussed. Civil discussions encouraged. Is Walt Disney World attempting to anger the far left? How dare they show the Statue of Liberty, or the Louisiana Bayou, or the Los Angeles skyline on a new ride celebrating America's 250th birthday?
Jim Hill and Len Testa welcome Professor Roland Betancourt to discuss his new book, Disneyland and the Rise of Automation, which somehow connects Walt Disney, Ford factories, magnetic tape, Forest Lawn, Willy Wonka, and ride computers named Fred. They also cover big park updates, from Mythos closing at Universal Orlando to new Walt Disney World previews, Lakeshore Lodge concept art, Roger Rabbit's safer spin, and Hocus Pocus 3 heading to theaters. Naturally, milk percentages are also examined with the seriousness they deserve. NEWS • Universal confirms Mythos will close with Lost Continent, while Thunder Falls Terrace becomes a new full-service signature restaurant in 2027. • Walt Disney World sets AP preview dates for Soarin' and Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster starring The Muppets. • Magic Kingdom prepares for a fourth ferry boat, the first new one since 1976. • Disney reveals new Lakeshore Lodge concept art, including a large pool and lazy river area. • Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin reopens at Disneyland with pre-programmed spinning. • Disney officially greenlights Hocus Pocus 3, with the Sanderson Sisters reportedly heading beyond the stage show and into the parks. FEATURE • Roland Betancourt explains how Ford's River Rouge plant helped shape Walt Disney's thinking about automation. • The discussion traces magnetic tape, Cold War technology, and the real roots of Audio-Animatronics. • Big Thunder Mountain introduces “anti-Fred logic,” a wonderfully Disney solution to button-related human creativity. • Harper Goff's work on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory reveals another strange and delightful bridge between factories and theme parks. • Why Disneyland surveyed guests like a giant postwar science experiment - and how those surveys still shape the parks today. Send us Fan MailEpisode 253: Big Thunder Mountain Returns, Disney Cruise Chaos & Halloween Starts in May
Len Testa and Jim Hill return with a caffeinated mix of Disney news, listener questions, and one deeply researched (and slightly petty) rant about guitar accuracy. They also explore the mystery of Walt's unfinished apartment bathroom and debate just how early is too early for Halloween. Then Jim brings the main event: the story of how Maxwell House coffee landed on Main Street, missed its big debut, and ultimately got shown the door - paving the way for a quieter, smarter coffee strategy at Disneyland. NEWS Preview dates announced for Soarin' and Rock ‘n' Roller Coaster starring the Muppets, with guests likely riding by mid-May Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run may finally make the engineer role matter (yes, really) Bluey's Animal Kingdom appearance may skip meet-and-greets entirely, possibly to avoid crowd-control chaos Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party now starts August 7, because apparently summer needed pumpkins EPCOT Food & Wine Festival returns in late August, continuing Disney's “why wait for fall?” strategy FEATURE The original deal that brought Maxwell House Coffee to Disneyland - complete with big promises and bigger expectations Why the Main Street coffee house wasn't ready for opening day (and stayed that way for months) The rain-soaked grand opening that didn't help Disney's relationship with its coffee sponsor How Hills Brothers stepped in, kept the New Orleans theming, and quietly made the concept work The evolution of the location from sponsored coffee house to struggling restaurant to retail space For this episode's full show notes, click here. Summary — The Gay Mix (Recorded April 17, 2026)This episode opens with Daniel and Adam's standard banter before Daniel delivers his running update, the segment he describes as the show's primary draw. He confirms he is running the Walt Disney World Springtime Surprise 10-miler that Sunday alongside friends Zach, Rodan, and Taylor — spread across corrals A through E — before flying to Tennessee the following Thursday for the inaugural Dollywood Half Marathon weekend. The show will be dark the following week as a result. Daniel also uses the update as an opportunity to air a grievance: the unbuttered toast included in the post-race snack pack is not a reward for running 10 miles, and he wants that on the record. The bulk of the episode is a detailed debrief of Adam's multi-day visit to Florida. Day one's itinerary included a bowling session at Splitsville (Adam won; the lanes went dark mid-10th-frame), an escape room with a Jungle Cruise/Society of Adventurers aesthetic completed 10 minutes under the clock, and a group dinner in Lakeland with the extended co-pilot friend circle. Day two was a full day at EPCOT, highlighted by Adam losing Zach's permanent cast member guest pass near the Living with the Land queue, causing interpersonal tension that Daniel diagnoses in real time using a hormones-and-personality-types framework. They still managed Ratatouille, Soarin', and the American Adventure — which Adam and Daniel agree is technically impressive and historically selective in roughly equal measure. Day three covered Kennedy Space Center: the Apollo control room simulation, the Saturn V exhibit (Daniel has personal memories of the facility from 1976), and the Space Shuttle Atlantis reveal, during which Daniel was, as he puts it, "very much not" emotional. The episode closes with the two recurring game segments. In the News Game, Adam reads five multiple-choice questions sourced from the New York Times; Daniel scores 4 out of 5, correctly identifying the Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire duration, the Minnesota Boundary Waters mining vote, the World Cup as the cause of NJ transit price gouging, and Justin Bieber's Coachella hologram stunt, while whiffing on the Trump AI-Jesus-image question. The 60-second Disney Trivial Pursuit bonus round adds two more points. Adam confirms the trip was a genuine success and clarifies for the record that he doesn't require a packed itinerary — he came to see Daniel, not to be entertained. Daniel issues a formal satisfaction questionnaire disclaimer anyway.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice/SMS: 707-613-3284
Did you know Disney almost turned Spaceship Earth into a golden roller coaster? Join Morgan and Jake on Neverland Navigation Radio as they take a deep dive into "Project Gemini," the canceled early-2000s overhaul that would have radically changed the front half of Epcot. In this episode, we explore the wild $500 million plans to transform Future World into "Discovery Land". We're talking a massive "Time Racers" coaster gutting Spaceship Earth , a Little Mermaid ride in the Living Seas , a suspended rainforest coaster at The Land pavilion , and a brand-new Junior Autopia right in front of Test Track! Why did this massive project get scrapped right before its planned 2006 opening? We break down the turbulent Michael Eisner era , the financial disaster of Disney's California Adventure , and what few pieces of Project Gemini actually survived to become part of the Epcot we know today (like Soarin'!). Plus, we compare these abandoned plans to Epcot's most recent "World Discovery, Celebration, and Nature" transformation.Planning a Disney trip? Morgan is a free-to-you travel agent! Let's talk about Disney's “Land Pavilion” over at Epcot. Home to two pretty popular attractions, Living with the Land and Soarin. There's also 2 dining options available inside the building and have you ever seen the Awesome Planet show inside? We'll also talk March Magic and new Disney CEO.
This week, Bluey is coming to Disneyland, Magic Key Holders are getting some nice perks in the mail, and a scavenger hunt, Josh Gad is another cast member, cast members are celebrated, an update on the busses, we talk about the history of Disneyland Fireworks, and more! Please support the show if you can by going to https://www.dlweekly.net/support/. Check out all of our current partners and exclusive discounts at https://www.dlweekly.net/promos. News: On March 22, a beloved character from down under will debut a new show at Disneyland. “Bluey's Best Day Ever!” at the Fantasyland Theatre will celebrate the heart and humor of Bluey. The theater will be transformed into Bluey's school where Bluey and Bingo will appear on stage at set times throughout the day, with two unique shows. A group of comedic performers and musicians will join them to bring to life popular board games, music, and dances. Chattermax, Unicorse, and a troupe of Grannies will also make appearances. There will also be a life-sized Gnome Village and Fairy Garden with interactive areas. – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/bluey-at-disneyland-resort/ Magic Key Holders will have a new way to enjoy the resort with the Magic Key Road Trip pit stop scavenger hunt to celebrate Disney California Adventure's 25th anniversary. Key holders will pick up a special map at Kingswell Camera Shop on Buena Vista Street and use it to complete the hunt. After the hunt is completed, collect a prize later in April. Check the Magic Key Portal in the Disneyland App for all the details. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/california-adventure-25-scavenger-hunt/ Continuing this Road Trip theme, Magic Key holders will also want to keep an eye out in their mailboxes for a complimentary gift coming soon. An exclusive set of car air fresheners inspired by attractions and experiences from Disney California Adventure! Each mailer will include three themed air fresheners, with a citrus smell for Grizzly Peak and Soarin', new car smell for Cars Land and Radiator Springs Racers, and Sakura for San Fransokyo Square. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magic-key-road-trip-2026-air-fresheners/ Ever since Josh Gad was made a Disney Legend and he shared not getting to be a cast member for the Jungle Cruise, it seems like Disney has been trying to make up for this. So far, he has been a Jungle Cruise Skipper, a Disneyland Railroad Conductor, a Haunted Mansion cast member, and more. This time, he is taking guests on a journey through Storybook Land Canal Boats. This time, he doesn't know the script and snuck onto the boat to entertain guests. Check out the link in our show notes to watch all the chaos. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/gad-in-storybook-land/ The Disneyland Resort just held an event to celebrate cast members with service of 10 years or more. Jan Fleener and Richard Ruiz were in attendance, celebrating 55 years of service at the resort! The two were celebrated by being driven down the Performance Corridor in the Five and Dime classic car. Cast members are invited to these events starting at their 10th anniversary, then every 5 years of service after. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-cast-service-celebration-2025/ Actress Jennifer Garner has a baby food brand called Once Upon a Farm that is now available for purchase at Disney California Adventure. Guests can pick some up at Fillmore's Taste-In in Cars Land. The food features cold-pressed pouches and plant-rich meals for babies, toddlers, and big kids. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/once-upon-a-farm-at-disney-california-adventure/ Two unfortunate events occurred at the Disneyland Resort this week. The first was a hazmat situation backstage near Star Tours that resulted in cast members being transported to the hospital out of caution. Nobody was seriously injured and it was limited to backstage. Anaheim Police were summoned to the resort in a Swatting Incident that claimed a mass shooting event at the resort. A swatting is where someone calls in a serious call to 911 that turns out to be a prank, even though police, and sometimes SWAT teams are sent. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-swatting/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-hazmat-incident-star-tours-backstage/ SnackChat: Bluey-themed bites – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-bluey-food-beverage-at-disneyland-resort/ Discussion Topic: History of Fireworks – https://www.micechat.com/335190-disneyland-fireworks-history-all-shows/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Steph recaps day one of a two-day Disneyland trip with Angel and Lindsay for the “70 Years of Favorites” After Dark event. After a minor parking-structure collision with no damage, the host enters Disneyland, meets friends, eats at Docking Bay 7, shops for merchandise, and takes Cars Land PhotoPass photos with Lightning McQueen before riding Little Mermaid and Soarin'. The group dines at Carthay Circle, then attends the After Dark event for photo ops, dancing, snacks, and rides, but finds the event lackluster and leaves early.Thank you to all of my listeners, friends and supporters! This week's Disney Dish mixes a packed Walt Disney World news round-up with a deeply nostalgic trip through one of Disney-MGM Studios' most beloved lost attractions. Jim and Len break down a wave of reopening dates, new discount strategy, annual passholder survey oddities, and a fresh round of listener questions before returning to Jim's ongoing history of The Great Movie Ride. The main story this time shifts backstage, focusing on the cast members, timing, choreography, and split-second performance work that made the attraction feel so alive. It is part park operations deep dive, part oral history, and pure Disney nerd catnip. NEWS • Walt Disney World rolls out a cluster of reopening dates, including Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin on April 8, Soarin' Around America and Bluey at Animal Kingdom on May 26, plus more returning offerings later this summer. • Disney also unveils new summer and fall offers, including free dining and a 4-Day, 4-Park Magic Ticket, signaling a coordinated push to fill rooms after the spring reopening window. • Universal Studios Hollywood begins ride cycling Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, offering a first look at the drifting ride vehicle tech expected to influence the Orlando version. • Disney names Thomas Mazloum chairman of Disney Experiences, setting off a broader leadership reshuffle across Disneyland, Parks International, and Consumer Products. • A new annual passholder survey raises eyebrows by spotlighting Zootopia-themed offerings at Animal Kingdom, fueling more speculation about where Disney may lean with that IP in the future. FEATURE • Jim continues the history of The Great Movie Ride by focusing on the cast members who brought the attraction to life, from auditioning tour guides to the performers who earned the right to play the gangster and bank robber. • The episode explores the ride's hidden operational complexity, including synchronized tram timing, live performance beats, emergency exits, and the backstage choreography required to make two different versions of the attraction work at once. • Jim also shares stories about effects changes, guest complaints, on-the-job mishaps, and the strong sense of community that kept former cast members emotionally attached to the attraction long after its 2017 closure. • The result is a vivid look at why The Great Movie Ride was not just a ride system and a script, but a live performance machine that depended on timing, talent, and nerves. Not only do the ART busses service a lot of the area hotels, but they also transport guests from the Toy Story Parking Lot to the resort. This leaves guests needing to walk, take a ride share, or rent a car to get from their hotels to the resort. Disneyland said in a statement that they are aware of the situation and are actively exploring next steps. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/atn-shutting-down-march-2026/ https://www.micechat.com/430670-disneyland-news-bus-shutdown-dca-25-anniversary-after-dark-dates/ In just a few days on February 8th, Disney California Adventure will turn 25!
