This is a true tale of theft, drugs and a bakery. Jordan Dittloff made headlines in 2015 for stealing $277,993.58 from 47 clients of his travel agency Ace Travel in Victoria. As an award winning travel agency and a community leader in regional Victoria, Jordan's crimes rocked the Colac community. Many, including his 70 year old future mother in law, lost thousands of dollars saved up for their 'trip of a lifetime'. Trading insolvent, Jordan effectively ran a travel ponzi scheme relying on future holiday bookings to pay for past holiday bookings. Eventually the scheme collapsed and Jordan disappeared, sparking media attention. After 2 weeks he handed himself into police and was bailed pending a court hearing for his crimes. At the same time, Jordan ran a second business: drug dealing in Melbourne, profits from which he used to fund his own drug habit. Whilst on bail, Jordan was arrested as part of Victoria Police drug sting operation in a Melbourne alleyway. In the end the court sentenced Jordan to jail 3 years (20 months non-parole) as well as granting compensation orders for his victims to be repaid. In prison Jordan completed a business degree and in the five years since release is completing a post-graduate law degree and has repaid ~$35,000 to victims. He has worked at the same bakery since release. He now credits his time in prison as a catalyst for reform and is building a drug and alcohol free life of discipline and responsibility unlike his behaviour displayed before prison. Football Australia has fined Melbourne Victory a record $550,000 ($564,000) for bringing the game into disrepute following the riotous scenes when fans stormed the pitch during the derby with Melbourne City last December. The financial sanctions are made up of $450,000 ($488,000) in fines and damages and $100,000 ($108,000) in lost revenue due to the sporting sanctions imposed. Victory fans invaded the pitch after City goalkeeper Tom Glover threw a flare that had landed in his penalty area back towards them. He was then hit in the head with a bucket thrown by a fan, who was one of 17 supporters subsequently banned, some for life. Fans invade the pitch. Photo / Getty Images Along with the financial penalty, the FFA also declared that only seating for registered club members will be allowed at the Victory's home games for the remainder of the 2022-23 season and finals series. Also, no specifically allocated club supporter seating at the club's away games will be provided for the remainder of the season and 2022-23. The Victory have also been handed a suspended 10-point deduction that may be triggered for “each instance of serious supporter misconduct during this season and the next three seasons”.  “Football Australia has found that the Melbourne Victory Football Club, through the inexcusable conduct of many individuals who entered the field of play from the Melbourne Victory Active Supporters section at the Melbourne derby on 17 December, 2022, has committed a serious breach of our rules and regulations,” FFA boss James Johnson said. “The sanctions we have issued against Melbourne Victory are the heaviest in the A-League era. These sanctions are reflective of our desire to remove this behaviour and those that perpetuate it from our game. They also form part of a broader response to this incident which has seen 17 bans issued against individuals to date, including three lifetime bans, and preliminary sanctions against Melbourne Victory. “The field of play is sacred and the safety of our players and match officials is paramount. Those individuals that illegally entered the field of play, caused damage and verbally and physically assaulted players and officials crossed the line. We have worked closely with Victoria Police to identify these individuals and will continue to do so to ensure those that display anti-social and criminal behaviour at football events are not involved in our game in any way. Melbourne City goalkeeper Tom Glover is struck in the face by a metal bucket thrown at him from Melbourne Victory supporters who stormed the pitch at AAMI Stadium in Melbourne. Photo / Sky Sport “I can sympathise with the vast majority of fans and the broader football community who were sickened and hurt by the actions of those individuals. “The sanctions imposed on Melbourne Victory are a necessary step to ensure we create an environment where we place football first and our community can enjoy matches.” The match, which was abandoned after 22 minutes, will be replayed in April 2023 from the 22nd minute, with the 1-0 scoreline in City's favour standing. The Victory have seven business days to appeal Football Australia's determination, should the club elect to do so.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Elsewhere, blokes continue the eternal quest for social capital, but this time they're thieving real capital (allegedly), according to Victoria Police. Victoria's elite police unit ‘acted inconsistently with human rights charter': IBAC Victoria Police's elite tactical unit has been running high-risk operations that have resulted in serious injuries and alleged human rights abuses without proper planning, obtaining authorisation to intervene and properly documenting its use of force, according to the state's peak integrity body. The latest damning assessment of the Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) – which was heavily involved in responding to the 2017 Bourke Street killings by James Gargasoulas – has been released by the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC). In the nightclub shooting incident, IBAC said CIRT officers did not revise their plan to storm the venue and confront the patron despite confirming that the suspect was carrying a plastic imitation gun at the dress-up swingers' party. IBAC also said Victoria Police command had rejected the findings of its own internal review into the incident that “demonstrated that there were safer, reasonable and less forceful options available than the tactical response deployed by CIRT”. At Hares & Hyenas, the report found that CIRT intervened in the hunt for the suspect that was mistakenly believed to have fled into the bookshop without informing police already involved in the operation. The arresting officer failed to explain to the man, who was later determined to be innocent, why he had been arrested or advise him of his rights. Police Services around the country are in decline, standards for new recruits are continually lowered to entice new recruits while suspect ethical behaviour is constantly overlooked. Morals, integrity and ethical standards are overlooked, and excuses are constantly proffered for police officers poor behaviour. If police services around the nation continue to lower standards in order to gain recruitment numbers, then Australians can look forward to deteriorating service. But my concern is (and I believe I have started to see it happen) we will see more outcomes where innocent people are mistakenly targeted and then pay the ultimate price for a substandard police officer who is not fit to hold a gun. This is just my opinion. And you'll hear the extraordinary lengths he's gone to so he can fulfil  the promise he made to Marea at her funeral that he would do all he could to bring her killer to justice. Esther was in primary school when her beloved nonna was murdered. Now, as an adult Esther's been advocating tirelessly for justice for Marea. If you haven't already, listen to Part One with Jeff Yann.  If you have any information regarding the death of Marea Yann, or any other crime, please contact Crime Stoppers at: https://www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/ You can find the Victoria Police cold case hub here: https://www.police.vic.gov.au/cold-cases For ad-free listening, early access and exclusive content, join Australian True Crime Plus on Apple Podcasts here: http://apple.co/australiantruecrime CREDITS:Host: Meshel Laurie. In this week's episode of The People's Project: DAN HAS A PROBLEM #CookversusCrook Daniel Andrews, Brett Sutton and Dandenong council have created a monster! A slug that threatens the Premier's own seat: Mulgrave. Ian Cook founded iCook Foods where a slug was planted by a corrupt Melbourne council with backing from the Labor Party. With a team of retired detectives Ian has defeated all charges and now openly labels the players involved as 'corrupt' with not a single defamation action or threat levied in response. Ian is running in Mulgrave to stand against corruption in Victoria. CORRUPT COUNCILS Casey council was dismissed by Labor MP Adem Somyurek in 2020 for some of 'the most corrupt conduct ever seen in a Victorian council' with property developers paying bribes to councillors and Labor MPs. IBAC investigations have since revealed via covert telephone recordings that Premier Daniel Andrews has not only dined with such property developers, but has indeed discussed planning decisions at those dinners. The CEO of Dandenong Council also goes under the microscope as Ian lays out hundreds of thousands of dollars that have gone missing, bombshell board minutes, implications with Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton, and millions of dollars 'disappeared' by the Labor government in the winding up of Community Chef. CORRUPT POLICE? A senior Victoria Police officer made a submission to IBAC with detailed allegations about a cover-up inside the highest levels of Victoria Police. That submission alleges and implicates Shane Patton and lays out evidence of the 'Red Shirts Rort' investigations (into Victorian Labor stealing $400,000) being covered up. The submission was leaked to multiple media outlets, including Discernable. Former Victoria Police PORT/CIRT officer Chris Burson joins us on the panel to give us a peak into the culture inside Victoria Police. As we know, behind every cold case is a family, and 19 years after her shocking murder, Marea Yann's family remains divided. Tensions that were developing in the lead up to her death, were cast in stone during the murder trial in 2008 that resulted in an acquittal. Some family members still believe the acquittal was appropriate and police never fully investigated alternative theories, while other family members believe it was a terrible miscarriage of justice and continue to pursue a second trial. We'll explore Marea Yann's case over the next two episodes of Australian true crime and we begin today with Marea's son Jeff.If you have any information regarding the death of Marea Yann, or any other crime, please contact Crime Stoppers at: https://www.crimestoppersvic.com.au/You can find the Victoria Police cold case hub here: https://www.police.vic.gov.au/cold-casesFor ad-free listening, early access and exclusive content, join Australian True Crime Plus on Apple Podcasts here: http://apple.co/australiantruecrimeCREDITS:Host: Meshel Laurie.
