Disney may be rethinking Villains Land at Magic Kingdom - and this time, bigger could truly mean better. Lauren and Eric unpack the rumor that Imagineers were told to go bold with budget becoming secondary, and what that might signal about Disney's competitive strategy. They also break down the delayed closure of Monsters Inc. at Disney California Adventure, what that means for the proposed Avatar expansion, and whether Animal Kingdom's attraction lineup justifies its ticket price. Plus, the rise of AI-generated meet-and-greet images and why they might be causing real-world confusion. HIGHLIGHTS A rumor suggests the original plans for Villains Land at Magic Kingdom were scrapped in favor of bigger, more ambitious concepts with budget reportedly becoming a secondary concern. What this could mean for Disney's long-term strategy as new leadership looks to make a defining creative statement. Why Monsters Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue at Disney California Adventure may now stay open longer than expected. How the potential delay impacts the proposed Avatar-themed expansion and why some fans question whether the IP fits the park. A breakdown of attraction counts across Walt Disney World parks and the renewed debate over whether Animal Kingdom currently offers enough rides to justify a full-day visit. How recent closures and construction projects are affecting crowd flow and guest perception at Animal Kingdom. The surge of AI-generated Disney character meet-and-greet images online and how they may be misleading guests planning their trips. For this episode's full show notes, click here. Michael Eisner returns to the Disney spotlight in a surprisingly candid, long-form interview that has fans buzzing. Lauren and Eric break down Eisner's comments on park pricing, Bob Chapek, AI, and the future of Disney leadership - plus what it means in today's theme park landscape. Then, the Savannah Bananas bring Banana Ball back to Disneyland, and Lightning Lane Premier Pass sells out for seven straight days at Walt Disney World. Is Disney's most expensive skip-the-line option here to stay? HIGHLIGHTS Michael Eisner sits down with Graham Bensinger for his most in-depth Disney interview in years, sharing candid thoughts on leadership transitions, pricing, and the modern company. Eisner describes the Chapek era as “a marriage made in hell” while praising Bob Iger's succession and leadership instincts. Disney confirms a $1 billion AI investment and partnership with OpenAI, with plans to explore internal tools, advertising analytics, and controlled character licensing for AI-generated content. Lightning Lane Premier Pass sells out for seven consecutive days at Magic Kingdom during Presidents Day week, with prices reaching up to $449 per person plus tax. The Savannah Bananas return to Disneyland on March 26, bringing Banana Ball energy, cavalcades, and castle-front performances to both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. The Bananas' fan-first model, viral growth, and MLB stadium sellouts make them a natural marketing match for Disney's experiential brand strategy. For this episode's full show notes, click here. It's hard for even the most devout Disney Apologist to forgive what was the original Disney's California Adventure. With a troubled budget from the start, and perhaps the wrong theme for millions of people already living in California, this failed on so many levels when it came out the gate. It certainly didn't help that it was being built across arguably the greatest park ever built. And yet in the shadows of Disneyland, there is really something magical about Disney California Adventure and with time and investment, it has come around to being the 5th most popular theme park in North America, behind Magic Kingdom, Disneyland, Epcot & Disney's Hollywood Studios, and yet ahead of Disney's Animal Kingdom, and every Universal Busch Gardens, Sea World and Six Flags park in the country. It's been a long 25 years, but with big new attractions coming, Disney California Adventure stands to compete in big ways moving forward. Planning a 2026 Disneyland trip without drowning in tabs? We've got you. We walk through the year's biggest dates and smarter strategies, calling out the can't-miss festivals, the ride overlays that actually change your day, and the cultural moments that add heart to the parks. If you're torn between a spring food crawl or a fall haunt, this guide helps you pick your window and build a plan that fits your style and stamina. We start with early-year standouts: Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure brings Mulan's procession, the Hurry Home pre-show before World of Color, character attire, and yes, irresistible food booths. February layers in Celebrate Soulfully with live gospel on the Downtown Disney stage and a heritage trail spanning both parks. We flag runDisney weekend as a crowd mover and give a quick reality check on what's included with a regular ticket versus extra-cost events. Anaheim Ducks Day pops in late February with limited wristband photo ops and a lively fan rally.Spring is where flavor leads. The California Adventure Food & Wine Festival (Mar 6–Apr 27) delivers chef demos, beverage seminars, tight LA studio bands, and the Sip and Savor play that makes tasting more wallet-friendly. We share a pro tip for the resort egg hunt: grab the keepsake when you pick up the map to avoid backtracking. Then come the Star Wars choices: Hyperspace Mountain returns Apr 28, while May 22 marks The Mandalorian and Grogu joining Smugglers Run and a looser Galaxy's Edge timeline. If you want thrills now or fresh canon later, your timing matters.Summer stretches the 70th celebration with park-wide decor, new character looks, and a Main Street theater exhibit featuring a surprisingly emotive Walt Disney animatronic. June 19 brings HBCU drumlines to Downtown Disney for a thunderous set you'll feel in your bones. On July 2, Soarin' Across America returns for the nation's semiquincentennial, likely feeding patriotic holiday surges. Fall ushers in Halloween Time from Aug 21–Oct 31 with Haunted Mansion Holiday, Cars Land overlays, nighttime projections, and seasonal snacks, before holidays begin Nov 18 with festive decor, parades, and fireworks. Along the way, we keep an honest eye on crowds, mobile order tactics, and where merch will tempt you most.If this helped you plan smarter or dream bigger, follow the show, share it with a Disney friend, and leave a quick review so more fans can find us. On this episode of The Case For with Chris Cox, Jim Hill convenes court in a flooded courtroom to debate one deceptively big question - which Disney park entrances actually work best. With Len Testa mysteriously missing in action, Jim and Chris take listeners on a globe-spanning tour of arrival sequences, retail corridors, and first impressions, from rope-drop chaos to architectural storytelling. Along the way, they explore how Imagineering intent sometimes collides with real-world park operations and why those first few minutes inside the gates matter more than you think. News: This February, Disney California Adventure will turn 25! To celebrate this milestone, Magic Key holders can pick up a magnet set commemorating the event. This will be part of a “Fun and Sun” event area that offers nostalgic photo opportunities, encounters with “familiar friends,” and more. The event will take place in the Hyperion Theater Courtyard near Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout. Key holders will need to join a virtual queue in the Disneyland app to access the area. This will be available from 2pm to 8pm February 5th through February 15th. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magic-key-disney-california-adventure-25th-event/ It is almost that time of year again when Disney California Adventure celebrates Lunar New Year! 2026 is the Year of the Horse, so Horace Horsecollar will be included in the festivities. Returning this year is all the Lunar New Year food, which we will cover in SnackChat, Mulan's Lunar New Year Procession, and Hurry Home – A Lunar New Year Celebration, which is a pre-show for Wold of Color – Happiness. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/magic-key-lunar-new-year-2026-offerings/ On October 26, 1926, a very popular bear arrived on the scene to eat as much honey as possible. Winnie the Pooh was first published on that date, making 2026 the 100th anniversary. To celebrate, a number of merchandise items, ranging from clothing, to housewares, to accessories, and more are coming to the resort. The merchandise line can be found on DisneyStore.com in addition to the parks. – https://www.micechat.com/429686-hip-hip-pooh-ray-for-winnie-the-poohs-100th-anniversary-merchandise/ Last week we talked about how Imagineering is 3D printing props for attractions in the parks. One has already been installed in Disneyland and is easy for guests to take a look at. The outrigger canoe across the water from the loading dock for the Jungle Cruise was printed from the previous canoe that was in the location, along with photos from the 1960s as a reference. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ Cathy's Cookies, which had been in Downtown Disney in the past as a food truck, is getting a permanent kiosk. The kiosk is installed and could open at any time. Cathy's Cookies sells tubs, and sleeves of chocolate chip cookies, cookie dough, coffee and hot chocolate, milk, and cookie sundaes. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ Guests parking in the Downtown Disney parking area next to the Pixar Place Hotel have a new, more convenient way to pay. Guests can now scan the QR code on their parking ticket to pay through their mobile device. This should improve the traffic flow exiting from the parking area and through the parking booths. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/downtown-disney-parking-lot-updates-payment-options/ Last year, Disney+ and Hulu launched a perks program to encourage subscribing. For 2026, Disney+ subscribers can enter to win a vacation for four to Disneyland. The trip includes airfare, ground transportation, three nights at the Concierge-level at a Disney hotel, four, 4-day Park Hopper tickets, a Disney gift card valued at $500, and a VIP tour guide for 8 hours. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disney-plus-perks-win-a-trip-to-disneyland/ With the start of the new year, there is a lot of activity happening to get ready to start construction on the new Coco attraction at DCA. The sidewalk that borders Pixar Pier and Disneyland Drive is closed to clear vegetation to make way for the attraction. Avengers Campus is also continuing to make progress, with more structural steel being installed. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ In the first of a couple of stories related to attractions having bad days, the Disneyland Monorail lost power on January 8th, which resulted in guests needing to be evacuated by the Anaheim Fire Department. The Anaheim Police Department said that about 60 guests were trapped in the attraction. Passengers were reportedly stuck from around 3:30 in the afternoon to 7 in the evening. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/01/08/60-people-evacuate-monorail-after-power-failure-in-disneyland/#more-1096887 Last Wednesday, another attraction was not operating at its best. A log on Tiana's Bayou Adventure completely filled with water, soaking guests in the process. Guests were evacuated from the log and no injuries were reported. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ Another live action remake of a recent classic has been cast. Teagan Groft has been cast as Rapunzel, and Milo Manheim landed the role of Flynn Rider. Kathryn Hahn is in consideration to play Mother Gothel, but no official announcement yet. The movie does not have a release date at this time. – https://www.micechat.com/429670-disneyland-update-holiday-exit-shoulder-season-scramble-monorail-mishegoss/ SnackChat: For Anaheim Ducks Day on February 22nd, there are some treats you'll want to grab as they are one-day only! – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/01/09/3-limited-time-snacks-announced-for-disneyland/#more-1097121 Sweethearts Nite Dining Packages – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/01/08/menus-revealed-for-dining-packages-at-disneys-2026-sweethearts-nite-events/#more-1096629 Lunar New Year – https://disneyparksblog.com/dlr/disney-eats-foodie-guide-to-lunar-new-year-at-disneyland-resort-2026/ Discussion Topic: Games with Producer James Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Start with fireworks, end with gratitude—that's the arc of a year that took us from Aulani sunsets and Alaska glaciers to hospital hallways and a comeback cruise. We pull back the curtain on twelve trips, a few legendary mishaps, and the wins that made 2025 feel both impossible and unforgettable. We revisit the Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento and the hidden gem that is Stage Nine's Disneyana trove. We talk first impressions of the Disney Treasure, why Trader Sam's remains a ritual, and how the Grand Californian turned a busy week into slow mornings. Then the plot twist: an aortic aneurysm that led to open-heart surgery, a deep-breath recovery, and a return to sea on the Disney Magic from San Juan to Galveston—with a sun-drenched stop at Lookout Cay. Add a total knee replacement to close the year and you've got a masterclass in pacing, patience, and planning.Looking ahead, we share the 2026 lineup: a concierge stay aboard the Disney Magic, Sterling's performance at Disney California Adventure during Food & Wine, and a seven-night Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Destiny that swaps routine ports for St. Martin, San Juan, and Lookout Cay. We'll catch July 4th fireworks from a Polynesian bungalow and maybe sneak in the US Open in New York, Halloween scares we missed last time, and a holidays finale split between the Big Island's volcano views and an Aulani New Year. There were hidden secrets in the Boiler Room of the DCA Tower of Terror that made it the most TERRIFYING version of all, but most people walked right past them without noticing the detailed storytelling. Drop in with us on this episode of Distory with Kate & Kirk as we check into California Adventure's lost Hollywood Tower Hotel to decipher the history, secrets, and stories hidden within its design. In this episode, we timidly step into the boiler room of the DCA and DLP versions of the Tower of Terror, starting with the poetic words of the original Imagineering Show Info Guide. Then we lean in to take a closer look at the employee bulletin board, clock in for work, and make a few phone calls on a vintage rotary pay phone. Kate explains some horrific (and perhaps too obvious) storytelling, Kirk walks us through the history of Stanley's thermoses at the mechanics desk, and we ponder the bizarre location of a chair repair station. Howard Johnson – http://www.wyndhamhotels.com/hotels/01051?corporate_id=1000098677 News: The Disney Parks YouTube channel is at it again with a new glimpse behind the curtain to show what it takes to get Cars Land ready for the holidays. In the latest Disney Unscripted episode, they follow the crew that transforms the land from Halloween to Christmas overnight. From warehouse to park and all the work to get completed in one night before the guests show up in the morning, this video shows it all. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/cars-land-halloween-holiday-transformation/ Disney has posted the availability calendar for the new Explore Magic Key that we spoke about last episode. The new key will have extended availability in the summer, opening up a lot of days in June and July that the Enchant Key was blocked out for. There are some other dates that are blocked out on the new key, so take a look at the link in the show notes if you are interested in comparing. – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/blockout-dates/ The standard refurbishment for Haunted Mansion after the holiday season has an end date. January 23rd will be the return of the classic Haunted Mansion variation. Also added to the refurbishment list for the first time is Star Wars Rise of the Resistance. It will enter refurbishment on January 20th, with no current return date. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ Navigation around the park after nighttime spectaculars might be a little easier to see. New electronic signs have debuted that give guests directions on where to go to get to certain locations in the park. This replaces the cast members yelling directions, or the dimply lit handheld signs that were previously used. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ A fun activity is available in Cars Land. Inside of Sarge's Surplus Hut, there is a display with a red mailbox. At this mailbox, you can write a letter to Santa Car. Mater will then take everyone's letters to Santa Car to the North Pole, along with his friend Lightning McQueen. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2025/12/14/confirmed-this-might-be-the-best-holiday-thing-you-can-do-in-a-disney-park/ A small version of “it's a small world” appeared on the Disneyland Instagram this week. The video showed off a model of the classic attraction in the park, in front of the full-sized attraction. The video goes on to show the creation of the miniature, which features 120 individual bushes, trees, and shrubs, and took over 200 hours to create. The miniature is on display in the small world toy shop. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-small-world-model/ As we reported last week, work has finally begun on the new Porto's location in Downtown Disney. Construction walls have gone up and encircle the ticket booths on the Disney California Adventure side of the west esplanade. This is a great sign of progress. Another area slow to redevelopment has been the old ESPN building, which now has signage up for lululemon! The old Tortilla Jo's location, which has been sitting stagnant since demo finished in the summer, is still happening, but waiting on permits with the city to continue. Construction here should hopefully resume soon. – https://www.micechat.com/428675-disneyland-news-construction-portos-rise-of-the-resistance-haunted-mansion/ SnackChat: Jazz Kitchen Coastal Grill & Patio – https://disneyland.disney.go.com/dining/downtown-disney-district/jazz-kitchen-coastal-grill-patio/menus/ Discussion Topic: Tomorrowland Star Wars Retheme – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disneyland-star-wars-retheme-concept-art-from-doug-chiang/ Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
