With the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser closing at the end of September, we discuss the void it will create for Starcruiser fans in the Disney Parks. Will they bring back Star Wars attractions they use to have in the park? Will they add something new to the parks to allow guests to immerse and play even more? Or will Starcruiser fans start going elsewhere to feed that immersive appetite? Let's discuss. CONNECT WITH US! Instagram TikTok INTERESTED IN BOOKING A DISNEY TRIP? This week a very special VERY LONG episode of the podcast featuring guest host Mikhael Tara Garver, Head of Culture House Immersive and Director of Immersive Experience for the Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser who is here to interview myself, Kathryn Yu, Graham Wetterhahn, Jessica Creane, and Nick Fortugno my shipmates for the absolutely incredible surprise trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando to head aboard the Galactic Starcruiser that Graham and Kathryn organized for us, and that a whole lot of people contributed to.The conversation that follows dips between talking about our characters to inside baseball stuff about immersive and back again. It is deeply nerdy in every sense of the word. It's also unlike anything we've done before. Disney World And Beyond with The Gold Key Adventurers Society
Disney World/Travel News May 2023 We just wrapped up the month of May, which means it's time to take a look back at all the biggest news stories that made the last few weeks so interesting. Here are the stories we're discussing this week: Disney announces that the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser will make its final voyage this September, citing high operating costs and failure to meet expectations for booking performance. https://www.wdwmagic.com/resorts/star-wars-galactic-starcruiser/news/18may2023-star-wars-galactic-starcruiser-at-walt-disney-world-to-permanently-close.htm Disney Dining Plan is returning to Walt Disney World in January 2024! https://www.keytotheworldtravel.com/disney-world-dining-plan-returning-2024/ Also, no more theme park reservations (for most guests)! Disney Parks head Josh D'amaro says theme parks will look for more ways to simplify the theme park planning experience after hearing numerous complaints that the experience is too complicated. This comes after Disney announced they are working on a way for guests to make Lightning Lane selections in advance so they don't have to work so hard in the morning before going into the parks. https://www.wdwmagic.com/other/disney-genie/news/22may2023-disney-parks-head-josh-damaro-says-disney-will-continue-to-simplify-the-park-experience-following-criticism-of-being-overly-complex.htm We take some time to discuss how the increasingly complicated process of planning a vacation at Walt Disney World Resort, as well as the increasing removal of free added-value perks for on site guests, has seriously hurt bookings. The lineup for the Eat to the Beat Concert Series at EPCOT's International Food and Wine Festival has been announced, including some exciting new artists for 2023 https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/05/first-look-2023-eat-to-the-beat-concert-series-at-epcot/ New restaurant alert! We'll touch on what we think may have contributed to the demise, what we think it might become, and much more!
The Galactic Starcruiser will close permanently following its final voyage, September 28th, 2023. What went wrong? What could have been done to save it? Dan-O Florez (The Dan-O Channel) and Sara & Steven Maciel (Princess and Scoundrel Podcast) join us as we try to answer these questions, to reminisce on our past voyages, and to look forward to our final voyage together. In the 156th episode of The Main Street Electrical Podcast, Jenn & Dave are taking a look at not only the the brand new Disney World ticket for the summer, but also the bigger news of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser ending its run in September... with no word of on what it might become (don't worry, that's why we are here!) First we give a nod to Jenn, who is not only celebrating a birthday this week but also celebrating that birthday in her first time in the parks since early in the year. Then, Dave who isn't celebrating a birthday or headed to the parks, at least got the coolest shirt ever for his kid! Making his return to the show is our guest today, John Rogers from TravelMation, and host of Travel Tips Tuesday, available on Facebook and YouTube each Tuesday night! Our little crew first chats about the new 4 Park Magic Ticket, how to use it, when to get it, and it's limitations. Then, the news about the Star Wars Starcruiser, and it's untimely demise in mere months. What will Disney do with the area? That's what Jenn, Dave, and John will offer their ideas... first, what if Disney leaves it as a Star Wars theme... maybe a day care? a hotel? a meeting space? Then, if Disney scraps the whole Star Wars idea and gives it a new theme... Marvel? Villains? Even Soarin? And of course... there's always All Star Space.

DisneylandForward is the plan to promote future ideas for the Disneyland Resort to the public and the government of Anaheim to start planning for the future. The biggest priority at the moment is to earn good will with the city to re-zone the parking areas around the resort to mixed use, which will allow Disney the option to do almost anything they can think of with the space. - https://www.micechat.com/286075-disneylandforward-explained-future-expansion/ A change to the reservation system at Disneyland took place this past week. Guests can now modify their reservations without the need to cancel the existing reservation first. This includes starting park and the date of the visit. Reservations are still required to be modified or canceled before midnight the day before to avoid a no-show. - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/ With ToonTown just a few of months old at this point, some adjustments are happening. The Dreaming Tree is behind construction walls getting the uneven soil under the artificial grass sorted out. The Dreaming Tree branches are also getting some TLC after a lot of use from guests. Otherwise, there are a number of smaller projects happening around the land to get it back in tip-top shape! - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/ In a sad bit of news, Fantasmic! will not be returning to Disneyland until after Labor Day at the earliest. In a statement, Disneyland said "We are taking this time to evaluate the show and explore opportunities to add new magic and touches for guests to enjoy." Guests who had booked dining packages will be notified and given alternative options. Disneyland also said "Teams are actively exploring alternate entertainment offerings for guests this summer and look forward to sharing more soon." - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/05/20/disney-announces-extended-fantasmic-closure-and-changes-to-show/ - https://www.micechat.com/354214-shocking-news-disneylands-fantasmic-dragon-engulfed-in-flames/ Five of the children who were in the Halle Bailey Ariel reveal video were surprised at Disneyland last week. McKenzie, Madison, and Carter Manier, along with Mckenzie and Riley Fleming were enjoying the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique when Halle Bailey herself showed up! She then invited the group to the premiere of The Little Mermaid. In addition to the surprise, the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique has new Little Mermaid costumes for both princesses and princes. - https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2023/05/the-little-mermaid-star-halle-bailey-surprises-families-at-disneyland-with-ariel-makeover-movie-premiere/ The new Disney Vacation Club tower at the Disneyland Hotel has an official name! Joining the Fantasy, Frontier, and Adventure towers will be the Discovery Tower! In addition, Disney showed off concept art showing the new splash pad area next to the new pool themed to Steamboat Willie! - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/05/21/disney-reveals-name-for-new-dvc-hotel-tower/ - https://www.instagram.com/reel/CscBA_npIcF/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading June is Black Music Month, with Downtown Disney set to celebrate all month long. During June, the Downtown Disney Live! stage will have different genres of music, including Jazz Fusion, Mid-Century Jazz, and Caribbean. There are currently 17 musical groups lined up to perform. The Hollywood Backlot Stage in Disney California Adventure will also feature performances from Midnight Hour, Finesse, and The Rythm & Blues Bothas. - https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2023/05/20/specialty-snacks-food-truck-and-more-coming-to-downtown-disney-soon/ - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/ We know it isn't Disneyland-specific, but we had to mention the closing of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser out in Florida. The Galactic Starcruiser was a 2-night experience that immersed guests into the world of Star Wars in a cruise-like atmosphere. The experience was criticized for being too expensive and not broadly appealing. Some of the interactive elements that were originally planned for Star Wars Galaxy's Edge were taken and implemented in this experience instead. Hopefully, this means that some of the interactive characters, droids, and other experiences might come to the parks in the future. - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/ - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/ There are some big changes at the Walt Disney Company. The planned move of Imagineering to a new Lake Nona campus in Florida has been canceled. There are a number of possibilities for why this move was canceled, with Disney stating "Given the considerable changes that have occurred since the announcement of this project, including new leadership and changing business conditions, we have decided not to move forward with construction of the campus." - https://www.micechat.com/356770-disneyland-update-floridas-loss-is-disneylands-gain/

Hello and welcome to the Enchanted Ears Podcast, where we discuss anything and everything Disney. Our news this week is our main topic because it's a shocker. Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is closing. That's right, this cutting-edge, not-even-toddler-age endeavor will stop “taking flight” come September. This week, we share our feelings about this. We also speculate why we think it happened, and contemplate the direction of the Disney company as a whole. We also share what we think Disney's going to do with the Starcruiser after it closes. In a moment of levity, Joe posits more accounting questions than most (or at least Angela) would care to know, and for you the valued listener, she steps in to prevent any sort of boredom-related sleep issues that could arise from too much money talk. As always, thank you so much for listening! Have a magical week! Submit a question/topic for us to discuss on a future episode. The WDW Radio Show - Your Walt Disney World Information Station
WDW Radio # 727 - Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser Closing... and the Good that May Come From It I'm actually not diving into the Archives this week, because as I said when first added this new show to the feed, also opened up other opportunities to discuss and address important events as they happen... like this week. On Thursday, May 18, Disney announced that they would be closing the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser, with the final voyage taking place in September. Based on numerous discussions that were going on in the WDW Radio Clubhouse on Facebook, as well as private conversations I was having via text, DM, etc. I felt it was important to go live, and discuss, with you, the announcement, our reactions, as well as speculation as to what's next. I share my honest thoughts and reaction, including why I think the Starcruiser was forced to close, Bob Iger, the Cast Members, as well as the good that I think can and will come from this unexpected announcement and closure. So I decided to take the audio from the live show and share it here on the podcast, as I understand that maybe you didn't catch this live conversation, or missed the video replay which is posted in the Clubhouse. And in addition to what we discussed here, I think there is much more to talk about in terms of the Starcruiser, your concepts and ideas of what should happen next, your experiences on the Starcruiser if you had them, and anything else you're like to talk about.
