We're so grateful Nick Rheinwald-Jones jumped through a green Jurassic vagina with us to watch La Brea, NBC's latest attempt at a sci-fi dystopia -- but this one involves a sinkhole in "Los Angeles," were-dogs, and Jon Seda. Should you watch the pilot just for the dumb crappy fun of it all? Or is it too stuck in that 2006 "we can be the next Lost" mindset to be enjoyable? We definitely enjoyed going Around The Dial with Controlling Britney Spears, The Big Leap, Being James Bond, Tea With The Dames, Teen Mom: Young & Pregnant, and Squid Game, and in related news, Dave was not a crackpot about flashbacks to events in the same episode. David Ellis Dickerson challenged us to pick a show bible a la the Star Trek: TOS episode "A Piece of the Action," and base an entire future society on it, and then Nick challenged our conceptions about second episodes of series when he pitched Episode 02 of Succession for the Canon. Bergeron won, Messing lost, and the Game Time season came down to a single letter. Take a nip off that flask and tell the government about your visions: it's an all-new Extra Hot Great! GUESTS

The marketers have declared - seniors at the cinema means big dollars. But while this commercial push for films aimed at older cinemagoers has produced some regrettable flicks - Last Vegas... - there are quite a few films about aging and reflection that are enjoyable. Stevie and Emmet talk Tea With The Dames and Last Orders, two films that capture a generation of British acting talent. This episode is also dedicated to the memory of Albert Finney.
After Jason gives an update on meet-and-greet season, he and Rebecca dive headlong into the hard-hitting and essential new drama THE HATE U GIVE, find some potentially racist shade in Damien Chazelle's FIRST MAN, and deafen the listeners with Jason's Maggie Smith impression for TEA WITH THE DAMES.
On this week's episode we take a look at Colette, The Old Man and the Gun, Tea with the Dames and First Man. We also try and figure out if Robert Redford is really retiring from acting, we check in with the specialty box office and reveal our #CedarLee3 picks for the best Redford films - either as actor or director. Art House News: The specialty Box Office this week was all about Free Solo (again) and Colette. Free Solo crossed the $1 million dollar mark this past weekend (on only 41 screens) and looks to be the doc hit of the fall. Is Robert Redford done acting...you decide. He also recently posted a personal message on the Sundance Film Festival website encouraging some social civility. #CedarLee3: This week’s list of films you should be watching was inspired by The Old Man and the Gun and the news of Robert Redford's (possible) retirement - our favorite Redford films, acting or directing. Ordinary People (1980), The Company You Keep (2012), Out of Africa (1985), All the President's Men (1976), All is Lost (2013) and Jeremiah Johnson (1976). In 2003, Sofia Coppola's sophomore effort was a surprise box office hit, making over $119 million worldwide. It was nominated for Best Picture and Best Director, and won Coppola a Best Original Screenplay Oscar. By criteria that are more difficult to measure, Bob and Charlotte's platonic Tokyo romance is just really meaningful to a lot of people. While Josh takes another look and what has long been his favorite Coppola, Adam brings a fresh pair of eyes to a film that underwhelmed him a decade and a half ago. That Sacred Cow review of LOST IN TRANSLATION and a review of the new THE SISTERS BROTHERS, featuring the dream pairing of Joaquin Phoenix and John C. Reilly as a pair of outlaw brothers in a film directed by Jacques Audiard ("A Prophet").
