Send us a textIn this episode, Ike Barinholtz pulls up for a hilarious, unfiltered, and surprisingly deep convo. We kick it off with a quick mental health check before diving into why trading Luka for AD is like trading Casey Affleck for Timothée Chalamet (yes, it gets that random—and that real). We chop it up about QB dreams, the art of Running Point with Kate Hudson and how Central Intelligence almost didn't happen—plus the real story behind the Kevin Hart and The Rock bromance.Ike breaks down meeting Seth Rogen, the Zac Efron hype, and why John Cena might just be the biggest star on the planet. Part 1 John Kiriakou :Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA's War on TerrorJohn Kiriakou is a former CIA officer, former senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and former counterterrorism consultant for ABC News.In 2002, Kiriakou became the chief of counterterrorism operations in Pakistan, where he led a CIA team in the March 2002 raid and capture of Abu Zubaydah, then thought to be al-Qaeda's third-ranking official.Following Abu Zubaydah's capture, Kiriakou became Executive Assistant to the CIA's Deputy Director for Operations, where he served as the Director of Central Intelligence's principal Iraq briefer.Kiriakou left the CIA in March 2004. He later served as a senior investigator on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as senior intelligence advisor to Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry. Kiriakou also authored a bestselling book, "The Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA's War on Terror," and worked as an intelligence consultant for ABC News.Throughout his career, Kiriakou received 12 CIA Exceptional Performance Awards, the CIA's Sustained Superior Performance Award, the Counterterrorism Service Medal, and the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award. In 2007, Kiriakou appeared on ABC News, during which he became the first CIA officer to confirm that the CIA waterboarded detainees, and he labeled waterboarding as “torture.” Kiriakou's interview revealed that this practice was official U.S. policy approved at the highest levels of the government. The government began investigating Kiriakou immediately after his media appearance. Five years later, he was charged with multiple felonies resulting from his whistleblowing. He became the sixth whistleblower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act - a law designed to punish spies.Eventually, in order to avoid a trial that could have resulted in separation from his wife and five children for up to 45 years, he opted to plead guilty to one count of a reduced charge in exchange for a 30-month sentence. In 2012 Kiriakou was honored with the Joe A. Callaway Award for Civic Courage, an award given to individuals who “advance truth and justice despite the personal risk it creates.” Two days prior to sentencing, he was honored by inclusion of his portrait in artist Robert Shetterly's series "Americans Who Tell the Truth," which features notable truth-tellers throughout American history.Kiriakou reported to federal prison in Loretto, Pennsylvania on February 28, 2013 to begin serving his sentence, where he continued to speak out in a series of "Letters from Loretto," including his first, which provided a stunning portrait of prison life. In November 2013, the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County, California honored Kiriakou as its "Peacemaker of the Year." He was awarded the prestigious PEN First Amendment Award from the PEN Center USA in August 2015.He was released from prison in February 2015.Part 2 Attorney Michael J. Episode #1153 The CIA's Social Media Takeover: Whistleblower Kevin Shipp Exposes the New Operation Mockingbird Former CIA officer turned whistleblower Kevin Shipp joins the show to blow the lid off the intelligence community's latest playground—social media. Shipp reveals how Big Tech platforms have become the modern-day battleground for psychological warfare, propaganda, and mass manipulation—essentially a reboot of the infamous Operation Mockingbird. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg's recent confession on Joe Rogan's podcast was just the tip of the iceberg, admitting the FBI's influence in censoring information. But is there more to this story? We dive into the suspicious death of former Meta engineer Suchir Balaji, who allegedly uncovered troubling secrets within the tech giant before his untimely passing. Shipp connects the dots between Silicon Valley, the intelligence apparatus, and how they're working together to control the narrative and suppress dissent. If you thought your social media feed was just for entertainment, think again. GUEST: Kevin Shipp was a former high-ranking CIA officer. Kevin's career was nothing short of extraordinary: protective agent for the Director of Central Intelligence, counterespionage investigator, and operations officer in counter-terrorism. He's seen it all from the inside. But what sets Kevin apart isn't just his impressive résumé; it's his courage. When he uncovered corruption within the agency, he made a choice most would fear to even consider—he blew the whistle. EPISODE #1146 THE CIA EXPOSED: SHADOW GOVERNMENT, SECRETS, AND REFORMS In this eye-opening episode, former CIA officer Kevin Shipp pulls back the curtain on the shadowy operations of America's most secretive intelligence agency. Drawing on his extensive career within the CIA, Shipp reveals how the Agency has deviated from its original mission of delivering honest intelligence to the President, becoming entangled in manipulations of Big Tech, media, and even global corporations. From Project Mockingbird's influence on journalists to the CIA's clandestine alliances with Wall Street and the drug trade, Shipp exposes the hidden levers of control undermining American democracy. He also details the Agency's relentless efforts to silence whistleblowers, including his own harrowing journey as a targeted truth-teller. Tune in for Shipp's bold blueprint to reform the CIA, restore liberty, and safeguard America's future. GUEST: Kevin Shipp is a veteran CIA officer with decades of experience across the Agency's four Directorates. His distinguished career includes assignments as a protective agent for the Director of Central Intelligence, a counterespionage investigator, and a Counter Terrorism Center operations officer. He has served as Chief of Training for the CIA federal police force, a program manager for the State Department's global anti-terrorism efforts, and a polygraph examiner. A recipient of numerous awards, including two CIA Meritorious Unit Citations, Shipp is a fearless whistleblower who has stood up against corruption within the intelligence community. His insights have been featured on The American Heroes Channel, numerous radio shows, and in his previous book, From the Company of Shadows: CIA Operations and the War on Terrorism. A survivor of a life-threatening illness, Shipp draws on his resilience and moral clarity to advocate for transparency and reform in America's intelligence apparatus. The American intelligence community (IC) is a complex network of 18 different agencies constantly vying for authority and resources. This competition, along with the ongoing effort to balance civilian and military organizations within the IC, is the focus of today's discussion. Dr. Jeff Rogg, a senior research fellow at the Global and National Security Institute, joins podcast editor Ron Granieri to explore the history of the U.S. intelligence system, highlighting its civilian-military dynamics and the critical balance between national security and civil liberties. They delve into the roles of key figures like William Donovan and examine the challenges faced by various Directors of Central Intelligence as they navigate the intricate relationship between military and civilian agencies. This insightful conversation also raises questions about potential reforms needed within the intelligence community, especially considering the growing capabilities of surveillance technology and the need to preserve individual freedoms while ensuring national security.

The actress Kim Cattrall has starred in films and on stage, but is probably best known for TV series Sex And The City. She is now in a new audio drama, Central Intelligence, which tells the story of the CIA from the perspective of Eloise Page. Eloise joined on the agency's first day in 1947 and became the highest ranking female officer. Kim joins Clare McDonnell to discuss Eloise, her passion for radio, and the enduring appeal of Samantha Jones. In sentencing Huw Edwards, the former BBC News presenter, for accessing child sexual abuse images, the magistrate said that he did not pose a risk to the public or children, and that an immediate custodial sentence was not necessary because the evidence showed he could be rehabilitated. Edwards must now attend 25 sex offender treatment sessions. We look at how these treatment programmes work and how effective they are proven to be, with Deborah Denis, CEO of the Lucy Faithfull Foundation and Professor Belinda Winder, Research Director of the Centre for Crime, Offending, Prevention and Engagement at Nottingham Trent University. The number of women taking up NHS cervical screening test invitations has been declining for the last 20 years. Healthwatch England did research with women who were reluctant to accept NHS invitations for screening and found that 73% would do an at-home test instead. A trial done by King's College London earlier this year found that if self-sample kits were available on the NHS, 400,000 more women would be screened per year. Chief Executive of Healthwatch England Louise Ansari and Dr Anita Lim, lead investigator of the King's College London trial, join Clare to tell us more.Sarah Pearse is the best-selling author of the Detective Elin Warner trilogy. She recently released the last novel in the series, The Wilds which includes themes of coercive control and was written with advice from the charity Refuge. She talks to Clare about the role fiction can play in highlighting issues of domestic violence and coercive control.

The extraterrestrial comedy podcast where we probe the Majestic 12. Or should that be Majority 12? Or is that the Shi*ty Six? It's said that right around the time of the Roswell UFO crash of 1947, a group hidden beyond plain sight were formed to first examine alien remains before ultimately controlling decision-making pertaining to alien visitation to earth, as well as controlling the development of our own future based upon alien technology. There have been documents uncovered over the years lending some credibility to this story. Enough credibility in fact that the Air Force and FBI have taken a look. Those documents included a Majestic 12 1952 Briefing given by an anonymous intelligence official to Britain's leading ufologist of the time, Timothy Good. Across the pond, UFO researcher Jaime Shandera also received this 1952 briefing, purported to be written by a Head of Central Intelligence, Roscoe Hillenkoetter, for President-elect Dwight Eisenhower, outlining the creation of the Majestic 12. This led to a probing of archives which uncovered further mention of this mysterious group in official records. Aliens WERE recovered at Roswell AND elsewhere! Some say this is all legitimate. Others believe that this is a hoax. Others still, acknowledge that the best cover up of all may indeed be to just tell the truth, sprinkled with one or two easily disprovable elements to convince the world that the truth is too bonkers to be real. The Cognitive Crucible is a forum that presents different perspectives and emerging thought leadership related to the information environment. The opinions expressed by guests are their own, and do not necessarily reflect the views of or endorsement by the Information Professionals Association. During this episode, Chris Whitlock and Frank Strickland discuss the importance of AI Education for Leaders. Drawing upon three decades of leading hundreds of advanced analytics and AI programs and projects in government and industry, Chris and Frank address the primary variable in the talent deficit – large numbers of qualified AI leaders. Whether you are a senior or mid-level leader who lacks hands-on experience with AI, or an AI practitioner who lacks leadership experience, Frank and Chris unpack the dynamics between AI programs, projects, people, and technology.  Research Questions:  Chris Whitlock suggests a question related to Large Language Models (LLM); how will LLMs perform with contemporary data feeds, novel, emergent topics? For example: intelligence summarizations? Frank Strickland believes that simulation technologies are ascendant and should be studied more. During his 22 years of government service, he helped lead innovations including: evaluating and transitioning to production the nation's first long endurance unmanned aerial system; delivering intelligence to the tactical edge using narrow and wide-band technologies; and agile prototyping of big data analytics. The Director of Central Intelligence awarded him the National Intelligence Medal of Achievement in recognition of these accomplishments. He was the National Reconnaissance Office's (NRO) Legislative Director, and a member of CIA's Senior Intelligence Service, where he received the NRO's Medals of Distinguished and Superior Service. In the private sector he co-founded Edge Consulting and helped lead Edge's growth resulting in an acquisition by IBM. As a partner in IBM and subsequently Deloitte, he led large practices providing AI and analytics solutions and services to national security clients including innovations in massive scale property graphs and agent-based simulation.  Chris Whitlock completed undergrad in Oxford – Oxford MS – and began service as an Army infantry officer, then military analyst at CIA. He spent the majority of his 40-year career providing advanced analytics, AI, and management consulting services primarily to national security clients in the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and Department of State. He helped pioneer the rapid prototyping and integration of advanced algorithms with software applications starting in the early 1990s. In the past 10 years his work has emphasized machine learning and artificial intelligence applications. He led a large market offering in Deloitte Consulting focused on Mission Analytics and AI in addition to leading large programs for cabinet level departments. He co-founded an analytics company, Edge Consulting, personally leading the development of algorithmic approaches to quantify the value of intelligence. After an acquisition by IBM, he served as a Partner in IBM. If you notice parallels between Frank's and his careers, we are twins who were separated at birth. We found each other in 1991 and have done some cool stuff since including our most recent venture, aiLeaders. It's spring break, and your kids might have more time on their hands… so we are revisiting one of our best and increasingly relevant episodes.Over a third of Americans spend hours every day on an app that directly feeds their data to the Chinese government. TikTok, owned by Chinese parent company Bytedance, is constantly collecting reams of data on its users, from GPS to keystrokes to outer-app monitoring, and even encrypted data that might be useful someday. But aren't these D.C. elite problems — worrying only for those who plan to work in intelligence or government someday? Nope. The implications of China's TikTok-enabled reach touch almost every American. Personal privacy aside, our national security is at immediate risk. The Chinese Communist Party exerts a measure of control over more than one-third of Americans. Are we going to continue to cede our sovereignty to Xi Jinping? Or will the U.S. Government shut down TikTok once and for all? These questions with Klon Kitchen, a senior fellow at AEI. Part 1 John Kiriakou :Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA's War on Terror John Kiriakou is a former CIA officer, former senior investigator for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and former counterterrorism consultant for ABC News. In 2002, Kiriakou became the chief of counterterrorism operations in Pakistan, where he led a CIA team in the March 2002 raid and capture of Abu Zubaydah, then thought to be al-Qaeda's third-ranking official. Following Abu Zubaydah's capture, Kiriakou became Executive Assistant to the CIA's Deputy Director for Operations, where he served as the Director of Central Intelligence's principal Iraq briefer. Kiriakou left the CIA in March 2004. He later served as a senior investigator on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and as senior intelligence advisor to Committee Chairman Senator John Kerry. Kiriakou also authored a bestselling book, "The Reluctant Spy: My Secret Life in the CIA's War on Terror," and worked as an intelligence consultant for ABC News. Throughout his career, Kiriakou received 12 CIA Exceptional Performance Awards, the CIA's Sustained Superior Performance Award, the Counterterrorism Service Medal, and the State Department's Meritorious Honor Award. He became the sixth whistleblower indicted by the Obama administration under the Espionage Act - a law designed to punish spies. Eventually, in order to avoid a trial that could have resulted in separation from his wife and five children for up to 45 years, he opted to plead guilty to one count of a reduced charge in exchange for a 30-month sentence. In 2012 Kiriakou was honored with the Joe A. Callaway Award for Civic Courage, an award given to individuals who “advance truth and justice despite the personal risk it creates.” Two days prior to sentencing, he was honored by inclusion of his portrait in artist Robert Shetterly's series "Americans Who Tell the Truth," which features notable truth-tellers throughout American history. Kiriakou reported to federal prison in Loretto, Pennsylvania on February 28, 2013 to begin serving his sentence, where he continued to speak out in a series of "Letters from Loretto," including his first, which provided a stunning portrait of prison life. In November 2013, the Peace and Justice Center of Sonoma County, California honored Kiriakou as its "Peacemaker of the Year." He was awarded the prestigious PEN First Amendment Award from the PEN Center USA in August 2015. He was released from prison in February 2015. Part 2 Attorney Michael J.
