Today we talk about Ugandan Knuckles as we take a trip through the meme graveyard in season 6. Send us a message: https://anchor.fm/remtgm/message
Sonic has been the pinacle of art. Moreso, some say, than the Sistine Chapel, Girl with Pearl Earring, or even the Wendy's Twitter account. Aye, it's thanks to Sonic that we can delve into the real hard hitting commentaries. I think of Ugandan Knuckles, Charley Marlowe's Real-Time Fandubs, creepypastas, and explicitly drawn scenes between Sonic and Mario. Favorites to us all. Jeff Fowler takes this classic Shakespearian premise and turns it on its head. What if it wasn't ironic? What if, they asked after already making Sonic's legs terrifying for the first film's trailers, this could be used as an oppertunity for a real love letter to the franchise? And so it was. And so it is, too, in Sonic the Hedgehog 2! *SPOILER WARNING*: This week's spoiler review is Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2022) (00:19:13 - 00:26:27). In each episode, we review several films and shows in point-form and in-depth. In-depth coverage will inevitably contain spoilers. Follow us on social media! What’s the matter Paper Lab, can’t protect your podcast!? Apparently not, because here comes Mr. Haskell, slamming into us like a freight train fuller than a tall boy of white claw (they don’t come in tallboys, do they?). Speaking of claws, man, that Tiger King sure is crazy, eh? We wouldn’t know, because two-thirds of us haven’t seen the show. En esta entrega de Noticias, las últimas novedades de la salud de Stan Lee, ataques de trolls a Black Panther antes del estreno, trailers nuevos, y de qué carajo se trata este meme de los "Ugandan Knuckles". Sí, en serio.
After packing up the bags and leaving university once and for all, Will and Jake reunite to discuss the latest directorial debut horror film to smash the box office - Hereditary. Is it this generations 'The Exorcist'? Does it successfully make your skin crawl? Did the Ugandan Knuckles meme ruin one of the films greatest plot devices? The answer to at least one of these questions is yes...
Memes can be as trivial as a waffle falling over or as powerful as a social movement. But defining them, tracking their origins, mutations, and meanings is a tough job. Fortunately, the brave souls at Know Your Meme have been at it for more than a decade so we can rest easy knowing Slender Man and Ugandan Knuckles will be preserved for future generations. Alli and Jen interview Brad Kim, editor-in-chief of Know Your Meme, who started his online odyssey as an immigrant and humble intern. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In this week’s episode, Carolyn has visited the OASIS of Ready Player One and lives to tell Anita and Ebony the tale, demonstrating her own knowledge of obscure pop culture trivia and criticizing RPO for its use of the woman-as-trophy trope familiar to so many of the properties that inspired it. The gang then moves on to ABC’s Roseanne revival, which pulled in huge numbers of viewers. Is it an important portrayal of white working-class experience, or a harmful sanitization of the damage done by Trump voters? Finally, in What’s Your FREQ-Out, Carolyn recommends an excellent TV show, Ebony recommends a terrible movie, and Anita gushes over a great documentary series that explores intersections of food, culture, politics and tradition.
