Communities remain cut off from the outside world with limited-to-no power or communication. Others have had to flee their homes to escape the rising flood waters brought on by Helene. Across both North Carolina and South Carolina, a million and a half Carolinians remain without power. The federal government has declared the western North Carolina mountains a major disaster area.
