Last week on Fox News California Governor Gavin Newsom's social media posts got everyone worked up, Laura Ingraham celebrated Trump's federal takeover of Washington D.C. and the network pretended Trump negotiated a major peace deal with Russia and Ukraine even though he didn't. Fox also finally uttered the name of ‘he who shall not be named' - Jeffrey Epstein.Fox News also spent a lot of time and focus on gerrymandering battles in Texas and California, a fatal car accident involving an undocumented immigrant driver and Cracker Barrel's newly designed logo. The phrase ‘Cracker Barrel' appeared in the transcripts 40 times last week while ‘Israel' only showed up seven times. After two weeks of showing some interest in the Israel-Hamas conflict the network went right back to ignoring it. Fox News spends very little airtime on the plight of nearly two million people in war-torn Gaza or the remaining Israeli hostages who have been held captive for nearly 700 days. In this special episode, I take on probably the most controversial and emotionally fraught topic of the moment: the Israel-Hamas conflict.  I think war crimes have been committed on both sides. But that doesn't mean I think the two sides are morally equivalent. Today, I argue that there's a fundamental asymmetry between Israel and Hamas, one that's too often blurred or ignored by the mainstream media. Israel's actions, while sometimes flawed or tragic in consequence, are ultimately rooted in a defensive logic. Hamas, on the other hand, has explicitly genocidal goals. But where does that leave us when we see images of children starving and hear reports that Israel is responsible? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

To those of us in the hawkishly pro-Israel camp, the name Hillel Fuld is well known as an unapologetic supporter of Israel and the Jewish people, but in early June, the government of Australia, quite possibly, made Hillel Fuld the most prominent Jew on the planet. Invited to speak at a fundraiser for Magen Dovid Adom about how Israel is a world leader in high tech innovation, the Australian Department of Home Affairs revoked his visa days before he was set to depart from Israel. His crime? They justified their decision on the grounds that he might use the platform to incite hatred “against the Islamic community” based on his social media commentary about the Israel-Hamas war. These baseless allegations were based on tweets and other social media posts made by Hillel, including: “There was no massacre (of Gazans) in the humanitarian zone in Gaza,” which was later confirmed by the Washington Post and other “mainstream” media outlets. Hillel also posted that in a world where there are 1.8-2 billion Muslims, and according to polls and all available data, 10-15% of them are radical Islamists, that means there are hundreds of millions of violent Islamist extremists dedicated to destroying the West, “so it is NOT an irrational fear or “Islamophobic” to fear them.” According to Hillel, after several failed attempts to have his Visa ban rescinded, using diplomatic and media support, including a letter from US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, he said that he felt like he was “experiencing 1930's Germany level of antisemitism.” Just to gain a little perspective on what life is like for Jews in Australia living under a government SO concerned about public discourse and harmony, Jewish Australians experienced more than 2,000 anti-Jewish incidents between October 2023 and September 2024, including shul and Jewish day school bombings. In February of 2025, two Muslim nurses bragged on social media about killing or wanting to kill Jewish patients. Under PM Albanese, Australia has adopted a more critical tone toward Israel in international forums. His government supported a U.N. General Assembly resolution in December that called on Israel to end what it described as its “unlawful presence” in the “Occupied Palestinian Territory,” including eastern Jerusalem. As civilian suffering mounts in Gaza and Ukraine, the moral rules of war appear increasingly irrelevant—and yet, militaries continue to train soldiers in ethics and restraint. In this powerful and timely conversation, Maz speaks with Dr. Pauline Shanks Kaurin, former Stockton Chair of Ethics at the U.S. Naval War College, and Dr. David Whetham, Professor of Ethics at King's College London, to explore the crisis of military ethics in the face of realpolitik, information warfare, and institutional silence. Together, they explore: The erosion of Jus in Bello principles: distinction, proportionality, necessity The limits of moral courage in authoritarian vs democratic militaries Why disciplined disobedience may be the last refuge of the ethical soldier The role and politicisation of institutions like the ICC and ICJ The psychological burden of moral injury and loss of trust in leadership The tension between values and interests in modern warfare Why Pauline resigned from her post—and what it tells us about the U.S. military's ethical culture This is an unflinching look at what it means to serve with honour when the rules no longer seem to apply.

In this conversation, Stella shares how her upbringing shaped her values, her global perspective, and the causes of her disillusionment with mainstream media. Journalism was always Stella's passion. but during the COVID-19 pandemic, something shifted. Stella began to question the media's silence on critical issues: the voices of parents during lockdowns, the integrity of the 2020 presidential election, and the dangerously skewed coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict. We discuss  the deeply embedded bias against Israel in U.S. media and the painful, recurring truth that Jews are violently scapegoated in every generation. Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Legal and settlements reporter Jeremy Sharon and Knesset reporter Ariela Karmel join host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. We begin the program with an update on the ongoing saga of the attempts to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara. On Sunday morning, the five-member ministerial committee recently set up to dismiss the attorney general voted unanimously to recommend that the government to dismiss her. We hear what are the potential next steps toward firing her -- and probable backlash. Yesterday at the Knesset conference called “The Gaza Riviera – from vision to reality,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich endorsed a “security annexation” of the northern Gaza Strip and claimed that Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir favors the idea. Dozens of right-wing politicians and activists claim they are set to "right a historic wrong" that occurred 20 years ago with the 2005 Disengagement. Karmel sets the scene. Israeli authorities have said they are taking control of the management of the Tomb of the Patriarchs holy site in Hebron, in order to carry out construction work at the flashpoint West Bank shrine. Sharon explains how there is precedent for this temporary control and delves into why the move is so controversial this time. And finally, in June, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced that it had opened an investigation into “matters related to the Israel-Hamas armed conflict,” with the possibility of uncovering “a perpetrator of core international crimes — such as genocide, war crimes, or crimes against humanity.” This announcement sparked concern among dual Israel-Canadian citizen soldiers. Karmel wrote an in-depth piece on the topic and shares the soldiers' fears. Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. Welcome to The Times of Israel’s Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what’s happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Editor David Horovitz joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today’s episode. Britain and 27 Western nations, including Australia, Canada, France, and Italy, said in a joint statement Monday that the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza “must end now,” arguing civilians’ suffering has “reached new depths.” The letter comes at a time of continued mass casualty events in the vicinity of aid distribution sites and on the day of expanded military operations in the Strip, in Deir al-Balah. How seriously is Israel taking this harshly worded appeal? French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot urged Israel to allow foreign press into the Gaza Strip. His statement came after The Journalists Association for Agence France Presse (AFP) said that its freelancer reporters in the Gaza Strip are at serious risk of starvation, and that “without intervention, the last reporters in Gaza will die.” Horovitz discusses Israel’s near-total ban on Israeli and foreign press entering Gaza following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack and the ban’s repercussions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ruling Likud party will decide Wednesday on a replacement for MK Yuli Edelstein as head of the powerful Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee over his refusal to advance a bill enshrining sweeping military service exemptions for the ultra-Orthodox. We talk about Likud faction chairman Ofir Katz’s unusual announcement that he had decided to “hold elections” for the position and that he was taking nominations from within the party for Edelstein’s replacement.
