Welcome to Episode 104 of Building My Legacy. In this podcast, we talk with “The Female Money Doctor” Nikki Ramskill who is laying the foundation for her legacy now while still working full-time at her career. Nikki, an obstetrician/gynecologist who became a family physician, discovered that many of her patients had money issues that impacted their health. Even in the United Kingdom, where health care is free, Nikki saw patients who were unable to work and didn’t have money set aside for an emergency. As a result, they couldn’t take care of their family or even think about planning for the future. Her solution was to set up the blog, The Female Money Doctor. Today through her blog, a Facebook group for women, and online interaction with individuals, Nikki provides the help needed by many people, particularly women, who are stressed out by money concerns. While, in the past, many of the people who sought her help faced a personal crisis, such as an accident or serious illness, today many more of us have been affected by the COVID pandemic. That makes this the perfect time to learn more about how to prepare yourself financially for a loss or reduction in your income. So if you want to know:– How the eight personality types relate to money management– The importance of carrying on with your plans — even in light of the continuing effects of the COVID pandemic– How a money coach can help you– The top things you should think about now with respect to your finances– Why many women would rather talk about death than money– Why your children need to learn about money management when they’re young About Dr. Nikki RamskillDr. Nikki Ramskill, aka “The Female Money Doctor,” has more than 10 years of experience as a doctor and women’s health specialist with Great Britain’s National Health System. After seeing firsthand the impact that poor money management skills had on the mental health of her patients and even her colleagues, she made it her mission to change that … because she believes that we cannot be truly healthy while a money nightmare is going on in the background. When Nikki decided to become a money coach — in addition to working as a family physician — she became a certified Sacred Money Archetypes coach through the program offered by Kendall Summerhawk, the “money guru for women entrepreneurs.” Nikki’s online programs now help women from all over the world organize their finances and build wealth for the future they truly deserve. Have you ever felt pulled towards something, but you’re not sure what? Maybe God was nudging you to pursue the calling He has for you. Artist Anne Neilson, famous for her angel paintings, has felt those nudges all throughout her life, starting when she was a little girl and knew she was meant to be an artist. Now looking back, Anne can see God’s fingerprints all over her life, and how He shaped her art into a ministry beyond what she ever imagined, including the inspiration to write a new devotional called Anne Neilson’s Angels. Nikki Speer, founder of the nonprofit Redefined Courage, has watched many women in her family battle with breast cancer. When Nikki noticed that her mom—the woman she’d always seen as the most radiant in the room—no longer felt beautiful, she realized God was prompting her toward a new calling: to design clothing for women dealing with breast cancer that was not only comfortable and allowed them to heal, but also helped them feel confident in their fight. He weaves us all together, and it's for a purpose that we might not even know.” - Anne Neilson “Words are powerful—the words that come out of our mouth, the words that are spoken to our friends, our children, our colleagues, our employees, to ourselves.“ - Anne Neilson “These angels do bring comfort and healing through the power and the presence of the Holy Spirit, through art. God is the master Artist. But in quietness and trust truly is my strength. And those What if? moments become my Even if... moments with God.” - Nikki Speer “I really do believe that if you are feeling right now--a nudge or a calling or prompting from God, that you should go for it. David wanted his daughter, Nikki, to be raised to overcome the obstacles of life. When Nikki was young, David wrote a series of books full of inspirational messages for her. Now that Nikki has a young son of her own, she felt it was time to put these stories she loved as a child into circulation for other children to enjoy with their parents. Nikki painted the illustrations and designed the book and working with resources in Thailand, where she lives with her family, she was able to produce them affordably. The best part for them is that the Yeagers donate 100% of the profits from each book to Kids in Need of Defense, working with children separated from their parents at the American border.Listen in for their story and their plans for books to come.Marc is asking for your financial support for the Repurpose Your Career podcast. [5:42] This week, Marc interviews Nikki and David Yeager on the podcast. Nikki is David’s daughter. Nikki wrote to Marc about her father’s decision to donate 100% of his children’s book proceeds to KIND, an organization that offers pro bono legal services and policy education to help families who have been separated at the U.S. border. [6:18] Nikki lives in Thailand. Her dad lives in Florida. Nikki is illustrating the books that her father wrote when she was a child. You can hear more at DavidYaygrrBooks.com. There is also a link to it at CareerPivot.com/episode-144 [6:50] Marc welcomes you to the Repurpose Your Career podcast. Marc introduces Nikki and David Yeager and the DavidYaygrrBooks website. [7:49] Nikki and David recently self-published a children’s book, Nikki Durant and the Terrible Can’t, together. David originally wrote the book when Nikki was “a little baby.” Thirty years later, with a child of her own, Nikki drew the illustrations for the book. When it was ready, Nikki worked to “get it out into the world for him.” [8:38] David saw tremendous value in sitting with his daughter and reading books to her. As he was doing that, he came up with stories of his own to tell, that he thought would be worthwhile, educational, and inspirational, not only for Nikki but also for other children. He wrote multiple books, over time. [9:57] Nikki explains the story of Nikki Durant, who overcomes all the obstacles in her way to get to a place called “There.” David wrote the story as an example and a message for his daughter, Nikki. [10:58] David intended the story as a means of opening a dialog with Nikki about not being intimidated by the challenges of life. [11:20] Nikki had started a company with her mother and brother a few years ago and David had started working at the company. Recently, they sold the company and David retired. With more time and energy on their hands, Nikki and David had time to dedicate to the project, including Nikki’s work to illustrate the book. [12:05] With Nikki’s son being four years old, and being fascinated by books, Nikki felt now was the time to get it done. Nikki also wants her son to be raised to overcome any obstacles that come his way with a strong sense of self-advocacy, so she is glad to have the book in his hands. [12:57] The Yeagers are donating 100% of the profit to Kids In Need of Defense — KIND, that works to provide legal services to children who have been separated from their families at the U.S. border. They also provide representation for children who would otherwise be showing up before judges alone. [13:49] KIND also advocates for changing the laws that impact children coming into the U.S. and being separated from their parents. [14:18] David was a stay-at-home dad while his wife pursued a career. David became a foster parent, as well, to do something positive for others. Over several years, they fostered four children at different times. David learned how traumatic it is for children to be separated from their parents, even when it is necessary to protect them. [16:14] David wants to help, in whatever way he can, to mitigate some of the damage and contribute to helping the people working to lessen the negative impacts of some of the policies and practices in place, separating children from families. [16:43] There are different ways to communicate with children. Sometimes it can be through books and discussions more than just trying to explicitly teach somebody a lesson. [17:10] Nikki is living in Bangkok, Thailand with her husband and son. They have been there for about a year. [17:27] Nikki started illustrating the book about 10 years ago. She stopped after three pages, having lost interest in illustrating “other people’s books.” She put it away until very recently. Nikki painted in acrylics. She finished all the pictures, redoing some of them. Then she scanned them all to a computer and did the layout electronically. [18:05] Publishing books is very affordable in Bangkok. Production costs in the U.S. are much higher. For the next run, production costs, with shipping, will be less than $1.00 per book. At a selling price of $10.00, they will donate almost $9.00 per book sold. The first production run came to about $3.00 per book. [19:00] David wrote a lot of books. There will be quite a few more to come. Nikki drew the pictures for another one, many years ago, that she is considering redoing, and there is another she may start illustrating soon. Nikki’s goal is to have a second book done in the next six months. [20:00] David is 65. This experience is a reinvention for David and a time of discovery. Both David and his wife retired at the end of 2018, so they are exploring how to use the time available to them, including working with his writings of the past. [20:59] It was a joy for David to see the book become real that had always been in his head. There is a real sense of satisfaction that Nikki, the child David was trying to teach and inspire, is now a part of the process of completing the book, for others and her own child. [22:11] Nikki tells how she could tell her usually unexcitable father was excited on first seeing the book. [23:16] Nikki had the story in an email sent from David. Nikki had to break it into pages and come up with the images based on the words on the page. Besides the interior illustrations, she designed the cover, using illustrations from the book. [24:57] Nikki tells how it came to pass that she illustrated the book. She had gone through a vocational art program. Once or twice David had hinted that it would be nice if Nikki or someone she knew drew the pictures for the story. [25:31] It’s nearly impossible to get a children’s book publisher to pick up an unknown author. There are so many children’s books, already. To pay someone to do high-quality illustrations is extremely expensive, so it’s hard to recoup those costs. Nikki always considered that she had the capability to do it and she really loved David’s books. [26:02] It almost felt to Nikki like an obligation to do the illustrations for the books she had loved from her childhood, so that’s how she came around to it. [26:14] Marc has a good friend through Leadership Austin who aged out of the foster care system. Marc also knows people in organizations at the border and he lives in Mexico, so he feels connected to the Yeager’s story in several ways. [26:52] Nikki talks about the distribution of the book. They also created lesson plans that go along with the book and they plan to do read-alouds in schools, with activities for teachers and classes. [27:31] Nikki and David are working very hard to get more reviews and word-of-mouth. Nikki invites listeners of the Repurpose Your Career podcast to spread the message. [27:48] Find the book on DavidYaygrrBooks.com. The Yeagers get the most money to donate if you buy from their website. The book is also on MagicBeans Bookstore, which donates books to children in need. You can also buy it at Back in the Day Books in Dunedin, Florida, where David lives. [28:46] David also appreciates the help any of the listeners can give in getting the book out there. It’s nearly impossible for a new author to get a book published, no matter how worthwhile it is. [29:26] When Nikki approached Marc, he felt this was a cool story to share on the Repurpose Your Career podcast. [29:49] Marc thanks Nikii and David Yeager for being on the Repurpose Your Career podcast. Marc hopes you enjoyed this episode. Marc had a bunch of fun talking to Nikki and David. Are you ready to take control over your sales process? Yes -- then today’s episode is going to give you a boost in that direction! Meet Nikki Rausch! And she is Your Sales Maven. She is a sales coach, an author, and a speaker. Entrepreneurs hire her to teach them how to sell their product in an authentic way so that they are able to build rapport and relationships with their leads and build their client roster. The sales process is a critical component of being an entrepreneur. Having an online presence is only good if you can get people to sign up and take action!. If customers only get to the point of being interested and never sign up and invest their time and money in your product then you aren’t doing everything you can to grow your business. Nikki believes, by having a sales coach and learning how to have sales conversations, it equips you to convert your prospects to customers. As a Sales Coach, Nikki has plenty of tools at her disposal to begin sales conversations. The one that I’m most interested in this episode is the one she used for The Selling Staircase book launch. This strategy allows people to: Start learning from Nikki at a low price point Get inspired by learning from Nikki And then go up and up and up in her offers The sales strategy for The Selling Staircase was to create ambassadors in the marketplace for the book, a launch team of supporters, who are willing to step up and promote the book into the marketplace. Nikki and her launch team are using social media, swipe files, podcasts, email marketing and Amazon Reviews as the principal tools to create immediate buzz around the book. She didn’t use this method for either of her first two books, but her community and brand awareness afforded her this new method of book launch! It’s been important to Nikki for her launch team to know she is with them every step of the way. The beauty of a launch team makes Nikki’s book more visible and easier to find in the marketplace. This makes it possible to find her book faster. People can see it’s also more than just Nikki sharing about her book. When you are writing a book, it's so important to visualize the outcome... What do you want to happen as a result of putting your book out into the world? If you are writing a book, you are creating a way for people to have a low price entry point so that they can be exposed to your work and learn from you. It allows someone who isn’t ready to or not able to step into a one on one coaching situation to still learn and be engaged in content. “This idea of people being engaged in the content is social proof. That’s why I’m building this launch team.”- Nikki Rausch With this “social proof”...the goal was to have 50 or more people who have already written a review on Amazon on launch! Every member of the launch team gained early (discounted) access to The Selling Staircase.. They will have read the book. Also, they will be engaged in the content. AND they will be able to talk intelligently about: What is in the book. How others can use it. Why they would promote it to other people. A book launch team is like running a beta group for your course or group program… If you already have a large community of followers then you could be ready for this strategy yourself! Think about it this way. When you are doing a beta launch of your group, the people who join are most likely the most loyal people in your community. They are the best right people to be inside your beta -- they are willing to give of themselves to see your success and they are more likely to make it all the way through your content (because they already know-like-and-trust you and your process!) Therefore, they can be a true ambassador. Beta launching is something that Nikki absolutely loves. She beta launched a membership platform and courses. And, even before wrote this book, she was teaching about the content. She then did a webinar and 6 part video series on YouTube. She did all these things to beta her content before she put it into a book form. Nikki wanted to make sure that it was going to resonate with her audience and it allowed for adjustments before she wrote the book. She used online tech tools as stepping stones inside this process of writing her book! So, let’s talk about the book… The full name of the book is The Selling Staircase: Mastering the Art of Relationship Selling. According to Nikki, oftentimes, we learn about filling a sales funnel. People don’t know how to get people from the funnel to the point where they exchange dollars. The idea of the selling staircase is about how to get people from the sales funnel and move them step by step to the end goal. It’s 5 easy steps that help entrepreneurs identify if the person is not an ideal client or ideal client who you then need to move through the process. It teaches them what to say and do to move a client to the next step. Ideally it’s for someone that struggle with the idea of sales. Think about it this way...You have a lead magnet...Then someone downloads the lead magnet and gets on your list and starts going through your email sequence. There are times you may want to pick someone out of that process based on the activity they are doing. You want to be able to take someone out of a possibly elongated process if they are doing the work because you want to be able to reach out to them and help them step by step through the process. Always be looking for and picking clients who are ready. There are lots of ways for people to stay engaged with your work like listening to your podcast or reading your newsletter. Look for people who are ready to take the next step because they won’t just pop out to you. You are going to have to identify them and then engage them in some way to make it easy for them to have more engagement with you. This strategy works for more than just one on one services. It works for selling higher priced services/products as well. When you are selling a product or service you have to: Meet the customer wherever they are at Extend a hand AND HELP THEM But how do you get someone to pop out…. Simple: Issue Invitations! People like to be invited -- even if we aren’t actually ready to pop out and take that next step, it feels great to be invited. Make it SUPER clear and easy to work with you. The easiest way to do this is to actually issue an invitation. “If you make it hard for the client to understand that you are PERSONALLY inviting them to something, they often won’t take the next step.”- Nikki Rausch Think about it this way. When we are writing something and sending it out to our community we write it as if they are going to be reading it as a big, collective community...but they aren’t. They are reading it as each individual person. When you are issuing an invitation, it needs to be written to them as if it was JUST written to just one person. A really simple tip to stop writing like you are writing to your community as a whole is to stop using “Hey Guys” or “Hi Everyone”. Your audience members are not reading it as everyone reading together… they are reading it individually so make it feel personal. I was practically jumping up and down when Nikki was talking about this -- I see it all the time!. I also see people who use a personalization function at the start of an email to their community and it seems much more personal, but then everything else in the message is written very generally. On the podcast, we have talked at length about learning who your audience is... when someone takes an action in an email by clicking a link to answer a question, it allows you to segment your list down so you can send multiple versions of an email to best suit the different segments. Segmenting helps make your emails more relevant and personal… here’s an example. Most of the time when I’m reading newsletters that I’ve signed up for … I read them on my phone while I’m at gymnastics. So if Nikki sent me an email and asked me to click here if i’m reading on my mobile phone and I click that button the next time she sends me an email she can say “Hey! I know you are on the go so I’m going to keep this short and sweet…”. How relevant is that kind of information to have? As a recipient of that, it tells me that Nikki really gets me! She wants something more for me and ultimately I’ll be more likely to open more of her emails and take more action! “Anytime you can personalize and make the message feel really relevant to THAT reader, you are speaking right to the heart of somebody.”- Nikki Rausch When you write and email and you make the recipient feel like they are just one of many it’s not enticing. It makes your audience feel like you really don’t care about them as one person. This goes back to a principle in Nikki’s book... “The relationship always comes before the sale.”-Nikki Rausch You have to put the relationship first and start talking to people like you are having real conversations. This is how you master the art of relationship selling. Stop talking AT people and start talking WITH people. Another great topic that Nikki covers is reducing the number of “I” statements. When you are writing something and putting it out into social media, think about it being read by another person. Stop using a bunch of “I” statements except for when you are talking about something you personally did. Things like “I think you might like” or “I created this downloadable” or even “I want you to listen to this” When you really want to engage someone in a conversation, it needs to be “you” statements because they are reading it from their perspective. Use things like “You’re invited” or “You are somebody I would love to connect with”. This has a different message to the reader than saying “I want this for you!” People don’t care what you want, they care about what they want! Effective messaging often includes asking questions and helping someone see the other side. Then there are breadcrumbs to lead them back to you as the service provider. “When you ask people questions, their brains give them an answer. Now whether take action and respond to you is something else.” -Nikki Rausch Nikki recently sent out an email to her list that asked a question. She was amazed at how many people responded to this question. So then she took it a step further and sent them all an individual video that offered them some training. Not everybody watched the videos and responded. But those that did, responded and said they couldn’t believe she did that for them! Because they took the time to engage with her, she took the time to personalize and engage back. This is how you start conversations and move people off of social media and your list! WOW! This is such a testament to the process, but also understanding the mindset and buying signals! Back to Nikki’s Launch team for The Selling Staircase: you don’t have to promise them something big for people to want to be involved. When Nikki was forming her launch team she used a Google Doc and asked people to fill out an application. The application was really focused around them and made sure that it was something that made sense for them and that they would have time for it. The advantage to them of being on the launch team is they: Get early access to the book. Exclusive community. Get access to Nikki for the 6-week book launch promotion Nikki planned some fun stuff for the launch team. There were both big and little prizes. Most of the people on the launch team just wanted the access to the content in the book. They purchased the book for $0.99 whereas everyone else will pay a higher price for it. They only reason she is charging them $0.99 is so that the reviews on Amazon show as verified buyers -- gives a whole lot more validity to the reviews! Go check them out now → https://tinyurl.com/SellingStaircaseBook . Members of the launch team were told that they can engage and participate as little or as much as they want. They can purchase the book and leave a review and that’s it. Or have Nikki on their podcast and promote it on your social media and all kinds of other things. Nikki and her team have done everything they could do to make it super easy for the launch team to promote this book. If you want to launch something and you have the community to support you, think about creating ambassadors or a launch team of your own!! Who doesn’t like a good old-fashioned ghost story, or to be scared stiff watching a creepy movie? It’s even more heart pounding when weird spooky things happen in the City where we live – London. Today’s guest Nikki Druce is the creator and host of Macabre London, an original podcast telling the stories of London’s’ gruesome history. Nikki stories are inspired by her lifelong love of the dark, gothic, and creepy—and in today’s episode Nikki reveals not only why she is passionate about London and its grizzly past but her real life ghostly encounter as well. “I didn’t say anything about it to anybody at the time because I didn’t want to acknowledge it—because if I acknowledge it, and “it” knows that I’m aware of it—it might get worse.” [5:54] Nikki grew up on the spooky and macabre from a young age. She was told ghost stories and went on ghost walks with her parents trying to spot ghosts, and remembers her first horror movie (shown to her by her grandmother) Night of the Living Dead. Nikki kept watching these kinds of films and diving into literature like Frankenstein, and her fascination with the dark and Gothic only continued to grow throughout the years. [10:15] Nikki has a ghost story of her own—of course it takes place in a house with a terrible boiler that made all sorts of horrible noises. But the story starts with a table seeming to rock back and forth on its own—something Nikki shrugged off and went on about her evening. In the weeks to come, things started appearing in her bedroom from around her house, you know, the odd magazine, and perhaps more strange; cutlery. Her experience culminates one night after seeing something in her bathroom mirror, leading her to witness what I will just relay as being “quite an odd and terrible scene” in her stairway, something best left described by Nikki herself. It is undoubtedly off the scale of strange and weird, and perhaps ties into the area being a major through way to London years and years in the past. “I just had this vision in my head of London being this Victorian city that was just sort of smoggy with men in top hats and capes and that kind of thing, so I sort of romanticized that side of London.” [18:45] When Nikki moved to London she wanted to find a way to capture it’s darker side, as there are hundreds of years of weird and murderous history in our city. Stories that range from a hanging Charles Dickens attended where the first husband and wife couple were executed them in public by William Calcraft—a notorious executioner with a penchant for showmanship. There is also the Necropolis Railway, which was a railway made to transport the dead out of London after graveyards started shutting down due to an influx of the deceased. There are more modern tales as well, such as the Enfield Poltergeist and the Georgi Markov haunting—all of these which have their own episodes on Nikki’s podcast, Macabre London. Nikki researches all these stories and gives them a personal touch through her narration. She’s recently started a YouTube channel as well, and when asked if she thinks she’ll be running out of spooky London stories anytime soon—Nikki shakes her head, and jokes that if she does run out she will move on to Edinburgh. Eucalyptus (Plant) Eucalyptus is a diverse genus of flowering trees and shrubs (including a distinct group with a multiple-stem mallee growth habit) in the myrtle family, Myrtaceae. Members of the genus dominate the tree flora of Australia. The more than 700 species of eucalyptus are mostly native to Australia, and a very small number are found in adjacent areas of New Guinea and Indonesia. One species, Eucalyptus deglupta, ranges as far north as the Philippines. Only 15 species occur outside Australia, with just nine of these not occurring in Australia. Species of eucalyptus are cultivated widely in the tropical and temperate world, including the Americas, Europe, Africa, the Mediterranean Basin, the Middle East, China, and the Indian subcontinent, though most species do not tolerate frost. On this episode of PIR Radio we have Darryl and Nikki on from Northern Paranormal Investigations from British Columbia, Canada. Here is more about Darryl and Nikki: DARRYL PEARSON, FOUNDER Darryl was born and raised in Ontario, Canada, and is the youngest of three children. He has lived in British Columbia for over 20 years and has been a welder-fabricator for most of that time. Before that he lived in various places throughout Ontario and moved a lot. Darryl also came from a split family, but always had the support of both his parents. He started investigating the paranormal as a result of his drive to discover the truths and/or untruths behind the causes of paranormal activity, also having had a few experiences that put him on course with the paranormal. Darryl is what some people call "sensitive" and has been known to see and feel things in ways others may not. He uses both his senses and technical equipment to investigate, and help people understand what they are experiencing; hopefully supply answers. As the founder of N.P.I. Darryl brings a positive, professional, enthusiastic energy to the group, which is an asset to all our investigations. Darryl has been doing investigations into the paranormal for more then a year now and has gained a lot of experience in the field having been both a member and a lead investigator of another group. He feels with himself and his team’s knowledge that N.P.I. will be a group to look to for help and answers when needed. NIKKI PETERSON, LEAD INVESTIGATOR Born and raised in Langley BC, Nikki has always lived in the lower mainland, and now resides in downtown Vancouver. Nikki has been interested in the paranormal since she was a little child when an elderly woman would come and sit in her room at night and sing to her, comfort her. As Nikki grew into adolescence, the paranormal activity around her grew in frequency and intensity. At this time, she was also introduced into the metaphysical realm. This is when she found out for sure about her “sensitivities” and telekinesis. By the time she was a young adult, she had already won one battle with a demon. To this day, she does not fear ever facing one again. Nikki comes with a resume including working with a few other investigative paranormal teams and brings with her the knowledge learnt with each one. Every place Nikki has lived, she has had ghosts follow. Almost daily, things will be moved around, sounds made, unexplainable happenings, being touched and even on occasion she will actually see her visitors. Despite all of her personal experiences, she faces every moment as a skeptic first. She will never assume that any off thing happening is paranormal, no matter how weird it may seem. When Nikki isn’t expanding her knowledge of the mysterious and unknown, you can usually find her at a coffee shop or the beach with a coffee and a good book. Her other hobbies include 8-ball, photography, videography, and poetry. When not working in her capacity as a paranormal investigator she is an administrative clerk for a large heavy construction/ engineering company. She loves her job and is thankful that she can work with such wonderful people. Nikki is also very close to her supportive family for who she can’t thank enough for all the love and guidance they have given her throughout the years. When the opportunity came for Nikki to join Northern Paranormal Investigations, she knew it was the right thing for her to be doing and is happy to be living one of her dreams. Gretch tells Tab a story this week about a wicked love triangle that ends in an axe murder. Nicola Puddicombe and Ashleigh Pechaluk worked together at an upscale grocery store in Canada. When Nikki and Ashleigh decided they were interested in each other as more than friends, Nikki's boyfriend, Dennis Hoy, was all in for the extra woman in the bedroom. The three seemed fine for a while until Dennis' controlling behavior got to the women. The girls were over having a man in bed and decided he needed to be axed.
