Keep the Faith. Do Your Work. Live Life Unfiltered.Jason and Mike describe what these words mean to them and Mike even admits that he was originally wrong about one of the phrases and now actually likes it. And to make things even better the guys don't stop with what these words mean to them, but how living out these words has helped them improve and become a better version of themselves. And then to top it off Jason & Mike share how these words can help others become the best version of themselves. From there the guys continue to talk about what they are learning and how they are taking this knowledge and putting it into action to again become the best version of themselves. And because self-improvement is never-ending the guys get super real with where they want to grow. Mike goes as far as to reveal how he is determined to not let something he has been mocked about for years keep him from some awesome opportunities that have arisen.New Community Facebook Group. A couple of weeks ago Jason and Mike spouted their thoughts on homelessness and poverty. And they quickly realized that they wanted to talk to an expert.Enter Terri Caldwell, an emerging voice (and expert) in West Michigan about homelessness and generational poverty. Terri brought so much wisdom and heart to the discussion about homelessness and generational poverty. And while Terri is cautious about considering herself an expert, the guys quickly realize that Terri is indeed an expert.Multiple times throughout the conversation Terri gives Jason the chills with what she is sharing. And she only had to school the guys a couple of times. In the end, Jason and Mike are left hopeful about what is going on in the community to battle homelessness and generational poverty and are moved to be part of the solution themselves.Ways to contact Terri: Email (terri.doorsofhope@coahm.org) or Phone (616.748.6017)Ways to get involved: Run or Support a Doors of Hope Runner in the Tulip Time Run (you should click on Mike so he wins)Ways to educate yourself: The Search for Stability Symposium (Terri will be a panelist) and Bridges Out Of PovertyNew Community Facebook Group. As Jason and Mike sit down to catch up they realize that they both had some huge wins these past couple of weeks AND a couple of places they want to improve. But then the real fun begins, they air their grievances with each other. And not because they want to be jerks to each other, but because they want to be better friends and be the best that they can be.From there they dive into an article about how to help them foster good mental health in their kids. And because they don't just want to talk about it, they each pick one thing they want to work on in their parenting. And because they like to watch the world burn, or at least Mike does, the guys discuss the vaccines and how some people don't want to get them and the fact that vaccines are required in many countries where mission trips occur. And at the end you may or may not hear Jason's dogs bark and Jason getting a little frustrated…maybe just maybe.New Community Facebook Group. For the past few months, Jason has been seeing the same guy begging on the street corner while wearing Jordans. So after a rousing round of Smart A** trivia questions, Jason and Mike dive into homelessness. While Mike and Jason are not experts on homelessness they share their unfiltered views and process where those views may have come from. And try to figure out some practical solutions, that leave one of us very uncomfortable. They quickly determine that they need to bring in an expert in the future to help them navigate this tricky topic, cause the guys don't want to just talk about it but actually do something about homelessness.New Sponsor! Ep. 164 || Jason and Mike mess up in some key relationships, what is heaven like, and the water challenge update.Jason and Mike sit down to check in with each other, hold each other accountable, and maybe, just maybe get lost in the weeds about a faith topic that has perplexed both of them.Along the way, we discover many things about Jason and Mike. We discover that Mike is very strict about the water challenge and may end up in the doghouse for how he talks about it. We also discover that Jason had a proud dad moment. We discover that Jason had a sucky therapy session and that Mike is afraid of what medicine might do to his creativity.Lastly, we are perplexed about the secret that Natalie (Mike's wife) wanted to share but didn't when Jason, Meaghan, Mike, and Natalie went out for dinner. Ben brings up a sermon he heard at church over 10 years ago to get us started. We talk about what is the easiest and most difficult to give of - our time, our talent, or or treasure. Mike introduces the 80/20 rule of life and how it is impacting how he views parenting, fitness, and more.Jason wraps us up by talking about the stupid stress of giving gifts at Christmas, and how holidays are difficult for those who grew up with ongoing trauma in the home. --You'll hear stories about real people who have dealt with depression, anxiety, addiction, self-doubt, or any other struggle they've faced on their journey through life. Hey Guys! So glad to be back with the final episode of the season. In today's episode, I am discussing the importance of getting rest, in order to be more productive. A lot of us are walking around burnt out, although that isn't what Christ wants for us. I also share three practical tips we can use to begin incorporating rest into our lives. As we approach the end of the year, take some time out to gather your thoughts, before rushing into the next year. This will help all of us avoid repeating the same unproductive habits. I hope you find this episode helpful, and I look forward to season 5! PS: Be on the lookout for the journal challenge, which will be posted on Instagram @confessionsofachristianchick Also, check out www.confessionsofachirsitianchick.com
"Hey Guys, I have a savage or sensible for you that my family is completely roasting me for... for a little context I am 22 and freshly out of college. My family keeps asking me what I want for Christmas and to be honest, all I really want for Christmas is help financially... I have bills that need to be paid and I don't have a full time job quite yet so it has been somewhat of a struggle. I have typed out a list a my bills and given payable links so every time someone asks what I want for Christmas I just send them the list and say you can pick one of the following bills. My mom absolutely flipped out on me for doing this and told me I was being a savage for doing this. She said that's not Christmas and it's extremely rude... now I would just ask for money BUT I feeling if I have the money in my hand I will want to spend it on other things and it won't go to my bills that need to be paid hence the direct link... I would love to know what you and your listeners think..." See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Hey Guys! Chris and Melissa here. It was this time last year that we had the idea of starting The Family Brand podcast. We had no idea what we were doing, but we took the leap, and now on our one-year anniversary of the show we take a moment to reflect on how much we've gained from taking that small step of faith. Recording the show has definitely been challenging at times, and though we usually are free spirits, buckling down and committing to recording an episode every week has grown us in ways we didn't expect. Listen in as we talk about our biggest takeaways of the last year and the incredible stories and conversations this show has given us. It has been such an honor to talk with listeners about their own stories and the impact that some of the episodes have had. You'll hear about our favorite episodes and maybe ones you haven't even heard yet. From developing our voice to having new and thought-provoking conversations, this podcast has given us the opportunity to not only grow as individuals but bring those talks to our kids and grow as a family. If there was one thing that we would want you to take away from today it's this internal question. What if you just did it? What if you took that seed of passion, that idea you want to grow, and just did it? What would your life look like a year from now? This podcast has had such a big impact on our whole family and we are so glad we stepped out and added it into the mix. If we can do it, so can you! As a thank you for all of our amazing listeners, we are doing a giveaway! Leave a rating, review, and email us at melissa@familybrand.com saying how this podcast has impacted your life or even just your favorite episode, and you'll have the chance to win one of five Amazon gift cards! Hey Guys! Chris and Melissa here. With the holiday season in full swing, we thought it would be a great idea to let you know about an opportunity that you don't want to miss. This time of year is famous for all sorts of traditions, from perfecting your pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving to snuggling up with the family and watching your favorite Christmas movie, we are surrounded by new and old traditions alike. Sometimes, we have a tradition that's so old we don't even know why we do it. Have you thought about your traditions lately? Do you know the purpose they serve? It's no secret that here at family brand our biggest value is creating a culture of belonging and identity within your family to raise your kids with purpose. We believe that tradition is one of the best ways to create that culture today. If you want to strengthen your family, connect with them on a new level, and instill a certainty and confidence in your kids that will never go away even years down the road. This episode is for you! Listen in as we talk about the power of tradition and how it is all around us, even if it's not the holidays. Something as simple as a weekly meal has the power to create lasting connections and understanding between your family. We talk about how we began reviewing our own traditions, our favorite traditions now, and how learning to let go of the ones that didn't serve us only opened the door for new ones that did. You'll get practical questions to differentiate the traditions that strengthen your family and the ones that would be better left alone. Remember you can't get these answers wrong! It all comes down to what serves your family best, so don't be afraid to bring the whole family in on the conversation. You may be surprised at what your kids actually like. We hope this episode encourages you to take a look at your own traditions and to start creating ones that will bring love, joy, and confidence to your family every holiday season. Hey Guys! Chris and Melissa here. Today we have an episode for the whole family, so before you hit play be sure to grab the kids! As we head into the Holiday season we want to help you capitalize on the extra family time you may have during this time of year. Instead of burying your heads in a screen or zoning out in front of the TV all season, why not start a conversation that can help take back your family? If you've listened to us before you've probably heard us talk about how every family has a unique brand and culture. But you may be thinking, what does that actually mean? And how would I even start…? We get it! That's why today we are going to open up a conversation that will help you create your family by design, not default. When starting to create your family's brand, it is important to understand that this process requires the whole family to have a voice. That's why we have invited some special guests today to give you some questions and exercises for the entire family to participate in. Join us as we talk to Tate, Tanner, and Ivie Smith (our 3 oldest kids!) as we ask them their input of the values they want to see in the Smith family. There are some pretty cool brands out there and we've found that families can actually learn a lot from them! We talk about the brands they admire and why they want to translate those values into their lives. You'll learn practical tips to help you and your family find what makes your name unique and how you can use this to create lasting family values that will give your kids a name they can be proud of. We hope that this episode is a catalyst for your family time this week and sparks intentional conversation to work together and create the family culture you want in your home!
