"My God, my God, why have You abandoned me?" It's a cry of anguish and isolation, of traumatic emotional pain. Both David and Jesus cried these words out to God, even though each of them still acknowledge who God is the midst of their pain. The pain of David's trauma and of Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross is not the end, and the psalm continues. "You answered me!" Still today, God hears our cries and is faithful to His promises, even when the path to which He calls us leads through a 'cross.'

In this episode, Toast, Michelle, and Kira Corbett of Dirty Freehub take a ride along the Deschutes River Trail in Biggs, soaking in the stunning views of the gravel route while also connecting with the experience of being fully present in their bodies. Both David and Michelle have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a condition that has shaped their journey into gravel cycling. Instead of focusing on limitations, they celebrate what their bodies can do—when they can do it. In this episode, they share their personal stories of living with MS and reflect on how this "snowflake disease" manifests differently for each of them, offering a powerful reminder of resilience and adaptation.-------------------------------------------------This podcast is produced by Dirty Freehub, a nonprofit organization that publishes hand-curated (and great!) gravel cycling Ride Guides. Send us a textWhat happens when we normalize abuse toward the most vulnerable members of our sports community? David Gerson, host of Refs Need Love Too, joins attorney Ben Glass on the Renegade Lawyer podcast to tackle one of youth sports' most pervasive problems—referee abuse and its devastating impact on officiating retention. This raw, revealing conversation explores the alarming statistics: we've lost over 30% of certified soccer referees since 2019, with 80% of new officials quitting within three years primarily due to sideline abuse. David shares powerful personal stories, including the moment his teenage son nearly walked away from officiating after being confronted by an aggressive adult player, highlighting the human cost behind these numbers. The discussion takes an encouraging turn as David reveals his behind-the-scenes work developing US Soccer's comprehensive new referee abuse policies. These groundbreaking guidelines establish clear boundaries between emotional expression and unacceptable behavior, with meaningful consequences—including triple sanctions when directed at minor officials. Meanwhile, states like Virginia are implementing landmark legislation making even verbal threats against officials a class one misdemeanor. Both David and Ben, with over 60 combined years of officiating experience, offer practical wisdom for creating safer environments. They explore the puzzling double standard where children are protected as players but subjected to abuse as referees, and share strategies for addressing dissent before it escalates. Their conversation illuminates a path forward where respect for officials enhances the game experience for everyone involved.Whether you're a parent, coach, player, or official, this episode offers actionable insights into breaking the cycle of abuse and building a youth sports culture that prioritizes both competitive excellence and human dignity. Both David and Bob are history buffs. But studying history is not as simple as watching a documentary, a biopic, or reading a bestselling narrative history. We need to be aware of how historians actually do their craft, and use those same tools as we watch and read. Some use history to advance their political agendas, while others just echo ideas that are not substantiated by historical scholarship. Armchair historians can often get it very wrong. How should Christians study history? Christians are a people of the Truth, so how do we know what is legitimate history? How do we reintegrate our faith with our understanding of the past? Our guest is Dr. John Fea, Distinguished Professor of American History at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He has recently released the second edition of his book, Why Study History?: Reflecting on the Importance of the Past (Baker Academic, 2024). For decades, David Stratton and Margaret Pomeranz were Australian film reviewing royalty, having built up a loyal following with their weekly show on SBS, The Movie Show. The 90s and early 00s was the peak of David & Margaret's influence over Australian audiences. What they recommended, people would head out and go and see. Both David and Margaret are staunch supporters of cinema, becoming advocates for all kinds of cinema and decrying the impacts of censorship. While both have played roles in the way that film censorship in Australia has impacted what we see, it's Margaret's role with the notorious Larry Clarke film, Ken Park, which saw her make headlines after she put on an ‘illegal' screening of the film after it received a ‘Refused Classification' status, aka, the film being banned from Australia. That pivotal moment in Australian film criticism history is what sits at the heart of Zachary Ruane and Alexei Toliopoulos' comedy show Refused Classification, which is currently making its way around Australian comedy festivals, having recently played at the Adelaide Fringe, with shows to be held in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth on the horizon. The show sees Zachary don a salt and pepper wig as David, while Alexei somehow manages to imbue himself with the spirit of Margaret Pomeranz with her trademark golden locks. Together, they retell this point in Aussie cinema history through the form of comedy show, documentary and verbatim theatre. In the following interview, Zachary and Alexei talk about how the show came about, their experiences watching Ken Park, how Simon Miraudo's brilliant Book of the Banned (buy it here) helped inform the show, and Alexei goes deep on his personal connection with the At the Movies board game.I should add too, if you're interested in reading the transcripts of David and Margaret's work on both The Movie Show and At the Movies, then check out this Letterboxd account which has logged all of them over the years. In this episode of Power Producers Podcast, David Carothers spoke with Patrick McBride and Joe Ems from Sembley, a company offering innovative technology designed to simplify the commercial insurance quoting process. Joe explained the origins of Sembley, which was created to address common pain points in the industry, such as the tedious nature of filling out renewal forms and collecting client data. A standout feature discussed was Sembley's user-friendly interface, affordable pricing, and integrations that improve efficiency. By leveraging custom intake forms, property data imports, and integration options with systems like Hawksoft and NowCerts, Sembley aims to streamline workflows for agencies, reduce back-and-forth with clients, and enable seamless data mapping across various forms. This technology allows agencies to focus on client relationships rather than manual tasks, making it particularly valuable for agents looking to enhance both client service and operational efficiency.  Key Highlights: Introduction: David Carothers welcomes Patrick McBride as a guest host for this episode and introduces Joe Ems from Sembley, a tech company offering solutions for streamlining the insurance process. David shares initial skepticism about Sembley's low price point but emphasizes the quality and functionality of the product. Why Sembley?: Sembley stands out for its ease of use, user-friendly interface, and reasonable pricing. Patrick McBride discusses how his agency faced challenges with data ingestion and renewals using other technologies, which Sembley simplified with its integration capabilities and workflow support. Key Features of Sembley: Single Data Entry: Input client data once and map it across multiple forms, saving significant time. Custom Intakes and Forms: The platform supports tailored intake forms that clients can fill out, streamlining the quoting process. Client Portal and Automation: Automation and integration with other CRMs (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) help agencies manage client data more efficiently. Supplemental Applications: Sembley handles various supplementals and continues to add more based on user demand. User Experience: Patrick emphasizes the intuitive design, which makes it easy for agents to input data and for clients to fill out forms. Sembley has custom intake forms and a static link feature that allows agents to streamline the data collection process. Roadmap and Future Integrations: Joe shared upcoming developments, including integrations with NowCerts and HawkSoft, and improvements to property data retrieval. Sembley is also exploring advanced data mapping and potential AI functionalities to enhance automation. Insights on Industry Challenges: The conversation highlights the industry's common struggle with getting clients to complete long applications and forms. Sembley's solution simplifies this process by pre-filling data and allowing for minimal client input on updates or confirmations. Closing Remarks: Sembley offers a discount for listeners who book a demo and use the code "power producers." Both David and Patrick praised Sembley's practical approach, value for smaller agencies, and how it bridges the gap between tech accessibility and affordability. In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with David Kahn, a fellow explorer of True Sidereal Astrology and Cosmic Human Design & Gene Keys. We dove deep into the evolving world of human design, astrology, and self-discovery. This conversation was a breath of fresh air, reminding us that these systems are tools for growth, not rigid boxes to confine ourselves in. Key takeaways: Human Design evolution: We discussed how Human Design has changed over time, from Ra Uru Hu's initial experience to the current interpretations. David shared some fascinating insights about the early days of Human Design and how it transformed into a business model. True Sidereal perspective: We explored the shift from tropical to true sidereal astrology and how it can offer a fresh perspective on our charts. Both David and I found that true sidereal resonated more deeply with us and offered new insights. Flexibility in interpretation: We emphasized the importance of not getting too attached to any one system or interpretation. These tools are meant to help us understand ourselves better, not limit us. The Trifecta approach: David introduced his Trifecta system, which combines elements of astrology, human design, and sound healing. It's a journey-based approach that focuses on core wounds, life path, and prosperity. Artfulness in self-discovery: We talked about the importance of creativity and artfulness in exploring these systems. David shared how he incorporates music and meditation into his work. Trusting your intuition: Perhaps the most important takeaway is to always listen to your heart and trust your intuition. These systems are guides, but ultimately, you know what's best for you. This conversation left me feeling inspired and reminded me why I love exploring these topics. It's not about finding the "right" system, but about using these tools to deepen our self-understanding and grow. Remember, we're all on our own unique journeys. Whether you resonate with tropical or true sidereal, Human Design or Astrology, the most important thing is that it helps you trust yourself more deeply. If you're curious to learn more about David's work, check out his free three-day journey where you can discover your collective wound placement and experience one of his Chiron-tuned meditations. You'll find the link below. As always, thank you for tuning in and joining me on this cosmic journey of self-discovery. Until next time, keep shining your unique light! The technology that is emerging in agriculture is really amazing, and it all points to a future with less rural crime and easier management.  It also brings people into agriculture that may have never believed they would wind up there.  Enter today's guest, David Philpot. You may remember in episode #988 that I interviewed David Smith of Ceres Tag about the rural crime prevention and detection capabilities of this smart ear tag.  As David has been growing his company, he has been speaking to groups about investing with him.  Both David and, well, David, are from Australia, and this is what brought them together.  David Philpot belongs to an investor's group, and during one of their meetings David Smith came to speak with them about investing in Ceres Tag. Not only did David Philpot become an investor, but he realized that a website called Mapipedia, which had been a hobby of his for some time, would be highly useful when paired with Ceres Tag.  So, the two David's began working together and have just completed a mock sheep theft in Australia in which Ceres Tag, coupled with Mapipedia, was able to detect the theft and help law enforcement track down and recover the stolen sheep. On today's episode David Philpot will explain all of the possible uses of Mapipedia in the livestock industry, including better management, bio-security and theft prevention.

The Minnesota Twins end a disappointing homestand with one victory, at least, in a series loss to the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers. David and Dan discuss the missed opportunities for the Twins in Game 1 and Game 2 as well as the highlights from by far their best performance of the series in a Game 3 victory. Both David and Dan have their theories about the up and down showing at the plate by Eddy Julien, though they are universal in their praise for Carlos Correa, who looks to be the player they thought they were signing before last year's injury-hobbled season from the star shortstop. They also discuss Byron Buxton's spectacular catch, Matt Wallner's apparently lengthy thighs and the staying power of a quartet of candidates for third base (until Royce Lewis is back) and the extra outfield spot (until Max Kepler returns). Finally, they've made some tweaks to the Puckett's Picks system to add some intrigue. I pray that every guest was pointed to the wonder and glory of Christ who lived, died and rose for our redemption, salvation and reconciliation. This weekend, we will turn our attention back to 2 Samuel 14. Our passage is a difficult text and probably not one that you will find in the Little Golden Book of children’s stories. But make no mistake, this passage has real relevance for our lives. Both David and Absalom demonstrate the need for forgiveness and reconciliation and the danger when they are not achieved in a biblical way. If you have no conflict in your life and never sin against anyone, feel free to take the weekend off. Today's reading is 1Kings chapter 12 verse 1 through 24. God's plan prevails, God's true to his word, and what God says will come to pass. Both David's firstborn and Solomon's firstborn follow bad advice. Because of his lack of seeking God's wisdom or God's advice in this situation, he chooses the advice that he believes will make him appear strong. Rehoboam has forgotten that his true strength come from God and to have success as king, he needs to rely on God's strength. It's a good story to look on and reflect on. Are we willing to serve in the places that God puts us? Are we going to God for the advice? Are we relying on God's strength or are we trying to position ourselves in a way that we can gain confidence in our own strength? Neither Absalom nor Rehoboam went to God for any sort of counsel or direction. We should be seeking that advice and be listening to the Holy Spirit for that right answer. Not the right answer that sits best with me, but the right answer that when I hear it, I know that God was speaking it to me. Sometimes we read in scripture about people that are more concerned about pleasing people. So this speaks to the leadership situation where it's pointing out that this leader paid no attention to the people and he refused to listen to them. I need God's strength, wisdom and power in front of me and I need to follow in behind the Lord. Despite the whole story being such an example of Rehoboam not listening, not taking the advice he should. It concludes with him listening and the people of Judah and Benjamin listening and returning home, not continuing on fighting against the relatives.

What does leadership mean to you? Leadership is not just about business and the corporate world. It goes into every area of your life.  In today's episode of Choice, Change and Action, Simone Milasas talks with Dr. David Kubes about what leadership means to them. For Simone, leadership is knowing what you desire to create in the world and heading towards that, no matter what. Similarly, for David, leadership means to always be and do what he knows is required. Both David and Simone have a very strong desire to empower all of the businesses and organisations around the world to use simple leadership tools, because you can't swim in the mainstream and desire something different. You have to be that difference in every action you take, no matter how small it is or tiny it seems. The size doesn't matter, the choice does.  You gain awareness from every single choice you make. Some of them you have to learn to laugh at yourself a little bit and just go "whoops". But you don't hold yourself back; you keep moving forward.  True leadership is not stopping; it's knowing when to pivot and change the trajectory of your business and your life.  Keys to success What Does Leadership Mean To You? David shares insights from his extensive experience working with diverse groups, from school kids to senior business leaders, and emphasises the importance of having fun in all endeavours. Andy and David discuss the concept of goal setting, challenging the widely accepted notion of SMART goals, emphasising setting realistic and achievable steps for big projects. Drawing from his research and interviews with over 258 top achievers, David highlights that successful individuals prioritise setting and achieving massive goals over SMART goals. He highlights the importance of combining effective goal-setting processes with the right mindset and behaviours. David talks about his personal journey, including his struggles with education and his transformation into a purpose-driven speaker. He shares heartwarming anecdotes of former students reaching out years later to express gratitude for his impact on their lives. David emphasises the similarities between working with school kids and senior leaders, stressing that both groups share insecurities and doubts. He advocates for leaders to connect with younger generations, leveraging reverse mentoring to prepare for the changing landscape of the workplace. He goes on to outline his steps to massive goals, emphasising the importance of breaking down goals into manageable steps and tackling the most challenging tasks first. He encourages listeners to prioritise personal development and maintain a mindset focused on growth and service. Andy and David probe the significance of taking action, seeking support, and embracing accountability on the journey towards achieving massive goals. David emphasises the importance of tackling the most daunting tasks first, referred to as "eating the sprout," and adopting a "go rhino" mindset, inspired by Scott Alexander's book, "Rhinoceros Success." Andy shares practical insights, such as the "ten-minute test" for utilising LinkedIn effectively, highlighting the impact of consistent small actions over time. They discuss the role of mentors, citing examples from personal experiences and emphasise the power of mastermind groups in providing diverse perspectives, fresh ideas, and crucial accountability. David elaborates on the historical origins of mastermind groups, tracing back to the Lunar Society, and stresses the transformative potential of surrounding oneself with individuals who challenge and support growth. Both David and Andy underscore the importance of seeking support, overcoming insecurities, and embracing accountability as essential components of success. Throughout the episode, Andy and David's lively discussion underscores the transformative power of goal-setting and the importance of fostering connections across generations to drive positive change. It's time to break free from ineffective actions and address the pain of wasted time and missed opportunities. Discover the power of an omnichannel approach tailored to individual prospect preferences and unlock the key to enhanced prospecting and increased sales deals. You Will Learn in this Episode: Build lasting relationships and close more sales by learning the importance of human connection in sales. Maximize your prospecting efforts and reach your target audience effectively with an omnichannel approach tailored to individual preferences. Discover the power of phone calls in prospecting and unlock a less cluttered channel for reaching and engaging potential customers. Increase your sales by understanding the unique pain points and challenges of different buyer personas within an organization and tailoring your value propositions accordingly. Save time and motivate your sales teams with good data by investing in high-quality prospecting data and using it effectively in your outbound efforts. About our guest: David Kreiger, founder of SalesRoads, has been in the sales game for nearly 17 years. He started his company with a vision to create a distributed workforce and build a remote inside sales team. With a belief that the core of selling lies in connecting with people, David aimed to recruit the best salespeople regardless of where they lived. Over the years, SalesRoads has worked with a wide range of companies, from seed stage startups to established organizations, helping them accelerate their sales and generate more top-of-the-funnel appointments. David's experience has taught him that while an omnichannel approach to prospecting is important, the phone remains the most powerful tool for connecting with prospects on a human level and truly understanding their pain points. In a cluttered digital landscape, the personal touch of a phone call can break through the noise and lead to meaningful conversations. By developing a solid strategy, understanding buyer personas, and crafting tailored messaging, sales professionals can enhance their prospecting efforts and drive more sales. So, if you're looking to improve your prospecting game, take a page from David's book and start dialing. Being able to connect one on one with individuals, understand their pain, and engage in a dialogue with them is essential for successful sales. Practice and develop your messaging to ensure you can articulate it effectively to different personas. 00:18:36 - The Role of Data in Sales Prospecting, Good data hygiene is vital for successful sales prospecting. Utilizing tools like Apollo, Lucia, Seamless, and ZoomInfo can provide data, but it's important to verify its accuracy and engage in manual data mining to ensure the information is up to date. 00:21:44 - Creative Lead Generation Strategies, Sometimes existing lists don't meet your specific criteria. In these cases, creative strategies like web scraping can be employed to find the right leads. Additionally, combining multiple data providers and waterfalling leads can help improve accuracy and increase the chances of success. 00:23:16 - Prospecting for Small Businesses, Outbound prospecting can be done by small businesses, but it requires a strategic approach and investment in good data, a sales acceleration platform, and the necessary time and resources. Doing it right is more important than rushing into it and wasting time and money. 00:30:57 - The Importance of Personalization in Sales Outreach, David Kreiger highlights the importance of personalization in sales outreach. He advises that while it may be more effective to send personalized messages to a smaller number of high-value prospects, for larger teams targeting a larger number of leads, it is more efficient to personalize the approach rather than customizing every single message. He emphasizes the need for brief and focused messaging that addresses the specific challenges and interests of the prospect. 00:32:24 - Customization vs Personalization Based on Team Size, David explains that the approach to customization and personalization should depend on the size of the team and the number of leads they are targeting. For smaller teams and high-value accounts, customization and deep research are recommended. However, for SDRs with a larger set of leads, being personal and personalized without customizing every message is more effective. The focus should be on asking relevant questions and providing value in a concise manner. 00:34:10 - The PVC Sales Methodology, Mario Martinez Jr. introduces the PVC sales methodology, which stands for personalization, value, and a call to action. He provides examples of how personalization can be done on an individual level, such as referencing a prospect's shared interest in a message. He also suggests a persona-based approach for sales automation, where a concise message addresses the common challenges faced by the target audience and offers value-added content. 00:37:13 - The Importance of Patience in Sales Outreach, Both David and Mario emphasize the need for patience in 00:44:12 - The Power of Building Relationships, The guest shares a story about how building a strong relationship with an executive assistant helped him gain access to the CIO's office. He emphasizes the importance of finding and connecting with key gatekeepers to increase sales opportunities. 00:45:52 - The Challenges of Virtual Communication, The guest discusses the challenges of virtual communication and the lack of personal interaction in today's business environment. He also mentions his company's website as another means of reaching out. David Kreiger shares his experiences of gaining access to decision-makers by developing good rapport with key individuals such as executive assistants and receptionists. This rapport builds trust and paves the way for a deeper connection with potential clients, reducing the sales cycle time and increasing conversion rates. Maximize Prospecting Efforts with an Omnichannel Approach An omnichannel approach to prospecting is discussed throughout this podcast, emphasizing the need to tailor communication channels to each prospect's preferences for optimal results. In episode 114 of the Glow Journal podcast, host Gemma Watts talks to the co founder and creative director, respectively, of Mr. Smith Hair, David and Freda Rossidis.Freda Rossidis is an industry legend. Freda tells me that being a migrant to Australia, very few of her earliest memories are centred around beauty. She had no idea what she wanted to be when she grew up, she fell into hairdressing, and grew to love it over time. As that passion grew, so too did Freda's resume, as she directed the hair styling for shows at Australian and New York fashion weeks and worked internationally on shows for Prada, Chanel, Dior and Hermes. Her son, David, subsequently grew up in the salon environment, and found himself working in marketing and product development for a haircare brand following his studies. From there, David developed a balancing shampoo and accompanying conditioner with no real plans to turn those two products into a fully fledged brand. Both David and Freda tell me that, if I'd asked them 8 years ago if they saw themselves working together, it would have been a hard no. However, 2 months after David's first two products went to market, they were featured in Esquire New York… and then in GQ, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Wallpaper Magazine. International press led to a truly unexpected surge in consumer demand, so Freda left her business and started working with David full time. That was in 2015. Today, Mr. Smith haircare is available in 12 countries, and what began as 2 products is now a brand with over 40 SKUs.In this conversation, Freda and David share whether or not it's possible to grow a business at the rate of Mr. Smith and maintain a balanced life, the advice anyone wanting to make it in the world of startups needs to hear, and some surprising stats around hairspray sales in Texas.
