In this episode of Hanging with Hardcore, Sameer Patil, Dylan Weston, Daniel Trease and Christopher Mampallil sit down with Wikan a young man from Bali, Indonesia. He has suffered from blindness since the young age of 13 due to Retinal detachment. This had put Wikan through a lot of frustration in his teen years. Along his journey though, Wikan decided to flip his mindset and not be a slave to his victim mentality. Now at the Age of 24, Wikan's journey and his attitude has managed to inspire us at the dojo, and we really hope it can inspire all of you too! Afu and her husband Wikan are the brains behind Frame & Sentences, a YouTube series that breaks down important social and political issues (we’ve also interviewed them in our 35th episode), and she’s also a researcher and policy expert currently based in Indonesia. We break down the debate performances of Jokowi’s running mate Ma’ruf Amin and Prabowo’s running mate Sandiaga Uno and talk about how both candidates spoke to issues around education, health, human resources, social issues, and culture — focusing in particular on Indonesia’s human capital and the many problems surrounding its development. We also discuss what it means for young Indonesians of all background to become interested in what’s going on in the political space — and how can we leverage the conversation to be one that is inclusive, welcoming, and empathetic, by using moral psychology and really listening to each other. The elections (both presidential and legislative) are less than a month away, and these are all important and good food for thought as we consider our nation’s future.

Fem kvinnelige helgener: I midten jomfru Maria med Jesus-barnet. På hver side av henne står St Katharina og St Barbara. Det er de tre jomfruhelgenene. Så står den mektige Birgitta fra Vadstena og Maria Magdalena på hver sin fløydør. De tre himmelske jomfruer har kroner av gull, mens Birgitta og Maria Magdalena har hodelin slik alle gifte kvinner skulle ha i middelalderen. Bak de utskårne trefigurene i alterskapet er fondveggen dekket av gull og hver enkelt helgenfigur har fargerike klær og kapper. Veldig sjeldent med kun kvinner - Det er helt unikt at det bare er kvinnelige helgener i et alterskap, sier kunsthistoriker Line Rogstad Wikan, som har studert alterskapet fra Grong. Det er kun ett annet sted det forekommer, og det er i et nonnekloster. Og at det er fem sterke kvinner som står frem her i Grong kirke, kan bety at det var sterke kvinner i det lokale Mediågildet som bestilte alterskapet, sier Wikan. Eller kanskje ikke. Det er fristende å legge moderne syn på kvinnesak til grunn, men faktum er at det er flere kvinnelige helgener avbildet enn mannlige når vi ser på helheten i den norske middelalder, sier Wikan. Det var moteretninger i kunsten også på 1500-tallet og de såkalte "jomfrugruppene" var populære på denne tiden. I MUSEUM besøker vi Grong kirke og ser nærmere på det flotte alterskapet som mest sannsynlig er laget av den svenske kirkekunstneren Håken Gulleson i 1520.Sendt første gang 28/1 2017. Da hun kastet seg inn i den offentlige debatten på 90-tallet, var det ingen som snakket om integrering. Det gjorde at hun fikk store mengder kjeft. Men hun var en av få som hadde forskning og kunnskap om flere av innvandrerkulturene. I dag sier hun at vi må lære oss til å forstå tegnene tidlig for å forhindre æresdrap, for det er alltid organisert kriminalitet. Både hun og mannen Fredrik Barth reiste verden rundt som antropologer, blant annet til slummen i Kairo og til fjellandet Bhutan, men når hun kommer hjem til sitt barndomshjem i Troms, står fortsatt pikeværelset slik det alltid har gjort. Det gir henne et anker i livet.
