A New Orleans Saints Podcast that’s 28.3x better than anything the Atlanta Falcons have ever done. Quick-hitting and unapologetic, the 28 to 3 Podcast focuses on all things black and gold, with a side of NOLA. Thoughts, opinions, and tangents courtesy of Darth Saint, Corey Moll, and Nick Shay.

AAND WE'RE BACK!! It seems like the world was a different place the last time we recorded - Carr had just retired, new Saints fans have been born since then (Congrats to our guy Jono!), wives have appeared on friends' podcast (Saints, City, and Me brilliance at its finest), a garbage truck crashed and got lodged for weeks blocking an on-ramp we all use in the city AND was removed by construction crews....BUT, most importantly, the Saints completed their OTA's and mandatory minicamp (with some paintball and FIve O Fore Golf thrown into the mix), SO...we dive into all of it in this one.Of course, we talk about the Saints "QB Battle" and in true 28 to 3 fashion, we argue and debate it out on what should be expected/how we should view this "battle". Are we expecting big things for Penning in Kellen Moore's offense?? Also, has Alontae Taylor finally accepted his fate as the "Star" of the defense - or simply "not an outside cornerback"?? TUNE IN to hear our takes on it all!WHO DAT?! #FTF
It definitely wasn't what we had on our bingo cards for how the Saints' Derek Carr Saga would end, but the news of his retirement definitely brought the result we wanted: Moving on from Carr and beginning the process of finding the QB of the future. Will it be Shough, Rattler, none of the above? Time will tell, but Carr being off this team provides a breath of fresh air and a clean start that we see as only helping the team moving forward. We get into a post-mortem of where Derek Carr went wrong with this franchise - obviously, he didn't embrace the city as fans would have liked to see - but was that all there was below the vitriol and twitter dragging he always received? Would it have been different if he simply won more games/led us to the playoffs? "Playing quarterback" was his "job", so do we think he was under any requirement to go out of his way to a "NOLA Guy" and be more present around town like Brees was or even Jameis of late? Or, was simply clocking in and clocking out all that we should have expected? Also, retirement...we get into why we think this outcome, in light of all that had come out (or not come out) regarding the extent and timing of his shoulder injury - especially given the statements issued by both the Saints and Carr announcing the retirement - are more reminiscent of a legal settlement allowing both sides to move on without a fight, than simply an aging vet deciding to "hang up his cleats."A lot to discuss in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
In one of the most improbable moves, the Saints used ALL NINE of their picks in the 2025 draft. NO trades at all, using all 4 picks in the top 100. Without looking any further, we agree that - from jump - that's the best thing to come out of this draft. Now, after that, we begin to disagree. As a "PROGRAMMING ALERT"...we should mention that we talked about the #ShedeurSlide for about the first 8 minutes...,(falling into our tendency to wander off on tangents, but this time we just happened to do it in the beginning of this episode). SO....we won't be offended if you want to skip ahead to get into the SAINTS draft analysis.BUT - BACK TO THE SAINTS DRAFT! Did we do the right thing with our No. 9 pick? We all love "the player" but was there too much talent on the board when we picked at 9 to sour the pick? Also, did we draft our "QB of the future" with Shough? And was 40 too high to draft him? Other than that, we like our third round picks and think that we did really well on Day 3. Also, does Corey have his Kaden Ellis 2.0 in one of the Saints UDFA's?? (HOT TAKE ALERT!) This one wasn't "quite" as long as our draft preview, but it's still a marathon episode which doesn't leave many stones unturned at all. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
This could quite possibly be the ONLY Saints draft preview podcast episode you'll need to listen before the draft begins on Thursday Night. (It's a marathon, so you also may not have time to listen to any others either...)We kick off this episode with a full, "on-air", unedited SEVEN ROUND MOCK DRAFT for the Saints. (Make sure to check out the YouTube Video Ep to see the draft board in action - but we got ya covered with the audio if need be). For the most part, our mock created some options at all of our picks that we could very well see being realistic scenarios, and after it was all said and done....we actually all agree that we'd be satisfied if the Saints come away from the draft with the picks we made. (Spoiler alert: We had the Saints using ALL NINE of their picks.)TUNE IN to hear who we picked in our full round mock draft! After we drafted, we do what we do best, cut up, debate, and go in-depth into virtually "any" scenario we could see the Saints facing beginning Thursday. As always, we have some steadfast disagreements with each other that we don't budge on, but we all agree that with Pick No. 9, there is a very specific group of six players the Saints MUST pick from. After that, it's anyone's game.DON'T MISS this ULTIMATE SAINTS DRAFT PREVIEW EP!WHO DAT?!
With the draft less than two weeks away, of course the Saints get news that their starting QB is “now dealing with” a shoulder injury that could keep him out of the 2025 season. Many are now saying that drafting a QB/Shedeur Sanders at No. 9 is the “only” option, but is it really? Does this news make it more or actually less important to go QB at No. 9? Would BPA actually be the smarter choice in this scenario, while rolling with Rattler or bringing in a vet as a one-year rental. We go into all of it in this ep and debate our differing opinions on what we really think about this curveball Carr news. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
So, less than an hour after we finished recording our last episode, the Saints announced the signing of Chase Young to his three-year deal - such is life sometimes for podcasters like us during an active period like NFL Free Agency. BUT, of course, the Saints continued to sign guys since then, some completely new, some old, and some "old" as in familiar in a reunion with the Black & Gold. We get into all the Saints recent action in FA signings, restructures, paycuts for fan-favorites and debate whether we like all the moves and if the team is now in position to go BPA in the draft or do we still need to do more before the draft to get there?Plus, the buzz around the Saints interest in Cam Ward, the presumed No. 1 pick in the draft, has gotten surprising high in recent days. We've broken down in a previous episode the pitfalls of trading up to get a QB in the first round. Does our previous conclusion - that it's "always" a bad idea - apply to the the Saints possibly trading up for a much-needed future starter like Ward or would trade up now be an exception to our established rule - given our need for a young QB1 of the future? TUNE IN to find out!WHO DAT?!
The NFL Free Agency "legal tampering" period began earlier in the day we recorded this (Monday 3/10), and spoiler alert, the Saints signed Chase Young to his deal about an hour AFTER we finished recording this one. Nonetheless, we get into what the Saints have done thus far and debate slightly differing opinions on how the rest of free agency/the offseason looks for roster building. Plus, of course, we talk about the Saints' restructure of Derek Carr's contract, effectively solidifying one more year of him as our starter. We also talk about the "fallout" among fans of bringing back the starting quarterback and is it justified...for FOOTBALL reasons? A lot to discuss in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
We get into a whole lot in this one. Breaking down the new coaching staff hires, especially the shift to a 3-4 Defense under Brandon Staley. Plus, we fall yet again into the quicksand pit of Carr vs. Rattler, or - who else would we rather see instead of either of them if the Saints were to move on? Listen in!
Super Bowl Week in our home town was definitely one for the books. The City's buzz was real as the whole NFL universe descended upon New Orleans for the big game, and the three of us took part in as many super bowl related events as we could - which, even if they weren't large in number, we definitely had a front row seat to the city putting its best foot forward, which has been met with rave reviews by pretty much any national media outlet and reporter covering the game. So, we recap our own perspectives on what was a great week, including getting the chance to meet the real GOAT, especially of our Saints, Andrew Christopher Brees. We also get into Corey taking on the "Quarterback Scramble" drill at the Super Bowl Experience, which he claims brought back old times in the Jesuit High School backfield. But...did he pick up right where he left off or pick himself up off the turf in front of his daughters?? You'll have to listen in to find out. Also, we dive in a little bit into the Super Bowl itself. Did the Eagles 40 point performance get us more behind the idea of Kellen Moore as the expected next Saints HC or was that more of a "total team" stat? TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
With the Saints in kind of a "holding pattern" in their HC search/awaiting the conclusion of the Super Bowl to announce the expected hire of Kellen Moore, a national news bombshell blew up right on the doorstep of Airline Drive. So, we touch on the recent church scandal email release, how it's different from the news that came out a few years back, and what it may mean (or not mean) for the team as a whole. Either way, we all agree, it's something the team should have never gotten involved in and really fouled things up once they did.Aside from that, we dive into another discussion of Saints 2025 draft strategy, especially after the conclusion of the Senior Bowl in Mobile. A quick look on who stood out from that week, whether it changes the prospects we like for the team. But overall, we focus in more specifically on who we each would like to ideally see the Saints go with at pick No. 9 and how that contributes to the efforts to re-build the roster and later picks in the draft. This one's definitely worth a listen. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Well, this has been a Saints Head Coach search for the books...but for all the wrong reasons. Even as we write this description for the episode we just recorded, the candidate who two of us preferred for the Saints HC job JUST announced (as of 9:19 p.m., 1/28/25, per Tom Pelissero) that he is OUT for the 2025 coaching cycle (a/k/a out on the SAINTS, since we're the only team left with a vacancy). We spend a lot of time dissecting where the Saints are in this coaching search, what all these candidates declining interviews really means for the team going forward and we debate what the real problem is at the root of it. Who is to blame? Yes, Loomis, but who else? Is it time to start pointing the finger at Gayle? or did this start well before she even took the helm?Beyond the apparently undesirable nature of working for our front office, who do we like the best as a candidate? Or, what scenario do we want to see play out based on the hire and the next few years down the road? A LOT to talk about in this one. Still, WHO DAT?! TUNE IN NOW!
It's a yearly tradition now, hold our breath and listen back to our season preview ep. Last year we were WAY off on a lot, but this year? We actually surprised ourselves. Still, plenty in this episode was laughably off from what ended up transpiring for our Saints this year. And, of course, our preseason hot takes are always a good listen after the year wraps. These are no exception. Kick back and enjoy this review of the preview. WHO DAT?!
Yes, the word "defense" is in quotation marks in the title of this episode because, contrary to our predictions going into the 2024 Saints season, it's hard to say exactly how much "defending" actually took place when the offense wasn't on the field...So, through that lens, we continue our 28 to 3 Pod Saints Season Recap and grade the defense's paper. Spoiler alert, consensus is they were light years away from the honor roll - a couple of us may even recommend they repeat a grade. Either way, they're still our team, so we did the dirty work in this one and analyzed the issues, discuss some of the good that came through at times, and debate what needs to be addressed going forward, including whether we saw anything - or any player - that could serve as something to build on from here. Definitely a must listen to close the book on this season before you can responsibly put yourself through the next one! TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
After having the benefit of a full week since the Saints 2024 season "officially" ended, we dive into our annual RECAP episode. This year, unlike last, we're splitting it up into two parts - one for offense and one for defense. In this one, we take the offense position group by position group, handing out final letter grades to each one. Safe to say, this wasn't a very good report card. More than that, there was PLENTY to discuss in terms of the biggest issues (other than injury) faced by the offense and what the team needs to do going forward. Of course, throughout all of this analysis, we go back to our Season PREVIEW ep., (Episode 85), to see just how "right" - or completely wrong - any of us were about certain takes we had before the season started. Needless to say, there is some post-mortem comedy involved in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Last game of the year, so we didn't hold back with our predictions. In depth, covered every angle in this one. Enjoy.
We got together before the new year and did our best to recap another embarrassing loss for our Saints. We agree we made a pretty terrible team look much better than they are. We debate what these past two losses/play overall plus lack of talent means for the team going forward, including in the team's efforts to hire a new head coach. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Much earlier this year, we'd hoped this game would be filled with much more anticipation - potential for division title on the line for our Saints, a chance for Derek Carr to get a W against his old team in his new home - and perhaps just a helluva time in the Dome to take us into the new year. Is that last one still possible? Maybe. But, those first two options....not exactly. NONETHELESS, we bring you our predictions for this week's matchup vs. the Raiders in our final home game of the season. We also give you a crash course in "tankathon" tie-breakers (didn't think we'd be saying that bout our team 4 years ago) AND OF COURSE....Corey's LOCK of the week. Can he get that elusive SECOND lock? Tune in to find out. WHO DAT?!
It's a recap of the Packers game. We had so many thoughts on this one, it just took a while to get them all into an episode. BUT, we did the dirty work and unpacked every detail in that embarrassing debacle, down to every word. #STINKSSo buckle up, get comfortable, pour yourself your favorite jug-full of holiday cheer, perhaps a fire, and enjoy this in-depth #Saints game review. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We are full-on in the swing of the holiday season with Christmas just days away, so we come bearing the gift of a combo episode including our recap of the Commanders game AND our preview/predictions, plus LOCKS for the Monday Night Matchup in Green Bay. Given our respective holiday schedules, Max and Nick recorded remotely together and Corey jumps in separately at the end of this one and brings his very special seasonal set of Lock of the Week!TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
We definitely have a tough one ahead this week as #ThatKidJayden leads the Commanders into the Dome to take on our Saints, led by that kid...Jake? Who knows, maybe young Jake can surprise us and do some things to keep it close or pull off an actual upset against the Commanders, but...our predictions don't exactly paint the same amount of hope. That said, we get into what we expect in this one and give our scores plus offensive and defensive MVP picks. PLUS, we bring you another week of Corey's LOCK! At least his lock this week is outcome-proof and factors in at least "some" optimism for our Saints come Sunday. TUNE IN to get our predictions and the LOCK of the week. WHO DAT?!
With Derek Carr's latest injury possibly sidelining him for the majority (or all) of the Saints remaining games (depending on who's reporting), we dive deep into how the team should handle it moving forward, BUT NOT…before Corey takes some time to RANT about what he think borders on the deranged; that is, the level to which Saints fans seem to “bitch” about and blame Carr, seemingly no matter what goes wrong for the Saints, or who's really to blame (in his opinion).ALSO, who should we re-sign and who should we draft??We get into what our roster may be shaping up to looking like heading into the offseason, especially when factoring what unrestricted free agents should be brought back *and at what price??* and after figuring out who may be candidates for contract restructuring (besides the obvious Carr behemoth contract). This one is a definite must listen. Can't claim to have solved any problems, but dammit we debated em! WHO DAT?!
A win's a win, right? The Saints went into New Jersey in a homecoming for their interim Head Coach and got the W. Of course, we definitely have some thoughts about the game overall, was it basically the same level of "energy" as the Rams game, just happening to come against a much lesser opponent? Also, what was going on with our O-Line, especially playing as our Week 1 starting unit for the first time since Week 3 - against a banged up NYG D-Line? Hard to agree on whether we had an offensive MVP, but we all agree on who the Defensive MVP was for the Saints. TUNE IN to get our thoughts on this one. WHO DAT?!
Our Saints take their talents up to Jersey this week to take on the Giants. Listen in to hear our predictions of how this clash of teams with SIX WINS between them will turn out! This has to be one we can get…right? We dive into that, PLUS! COREY'S LOCKS! He's hungry for his first one as the 0-fer streak has continued. Is that DAWG gon eat?! Or keep searching? Listen in to find out. WHO DAT?!
Some losses are filled with enough terrible calls, huge negative impact plays, or a horrible singular mistake by one of our guys that gets us all up in arms, arguing, debating, and just generally pissed off. Well…this loss to the Rams brought none of that. In other words…there was zero Rizz. Of course, that was apparently a huge part of the gameplan on Sunday as it played out, ie play keep away from Stafford and McVeigh's offense/play ball control and keep it boring. At least for a half, we succeeded greatly in that effort by shutting them out and holding them to less than half of our own time of possession, but…we ended up with only SIX points to show for it. In the end, we couldn't bore them to death; and the Saints play on the field may have done just that to their own fans. So, in this ep, we ask: Is the Rizz now gone or is this just a slip up? Even if we get back to winning, Rizzz's HC audition starts looking good again, does it even matter? We debate whether, in this HC search, the Saints must hire from outside the building no matter what? And if so, who fits that bill? Who out there that's available would we be ok with? Coming off the bye, can the Rizz use the rest to the Saints advantage and take the team to 3-0 since he's been the HC?? It's a tough matchup against the Ram's well-oiled offense of Stafford, plus Puca and Kupp plus Kyren Williams, but can the Saints keep the RizzMagic alive and pull out a W? We hand out our predictions, PLUS Corey rolls out his LOCKS! Can he FINALLY get one right? TUNE IN to find out! WHO DAT?!
Back in March of this year, we put our 28 to 3 Pod "patented" Game Show test to Saints QB1 Derek Carr to test where he ranks league-wide when given the choice between him and any other starting QB in the NFL. Given that the landscape has changed since then - via Derek Carr's performance this year, contract restructure, and some surprise QB play around the league - we decided to revisit where he stacks up TODAY vs. the rest of the NFL QB's, when given the game show treatment. We all landed at a different rank now than we did back in March, but did the results surprise? Will the results surprise most Saints fans? Obviously, Derek Carr is extremely polarizing to Saints fans, just as a topic, so this was an interesting test no matter what. TUNE IN!WATCH VIDEO EP ON YOUTUBE at youtube.com/28to3Podcast
THE RIZZ STRIKES AGAIN as our Saints make it TWO IN A ROW for the first time since we “won the Super Bowl” in week 2. While it was against a now 2-8 Browns, staying out of the L column after being there for 7 straight weeks feels great. We recap the game in this one of course, but as we go into the bye week, we also talk about the future of the squad as a whole. We unexpectedly dipped into a pretty lengthy draft strategy discussion given the current roster and questions at HC for 2025, and it definitely got interesting. Covered a TON of scenarios. Also, has the RIZZ already shown his head coaching is the difference between the DA Doldrums and this recent flirtation with the win column - OR - does the team look largely the same as its DA-coached self, just with some lucky breaks/insane amount of missed FG's by opponents? We get into all that and more in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Famous Jameis Winston makes his return to the DOME this week as our SAINTS look to make it two wins in a row against the Cleveland Browns. Do we think they can pull it off? We're feeling pretty confident in this one but definitely bracing ourselves for things to go awry, just since that what this season has seem to be all about. PLUS, COREY'S LOCKS! Is this the week he actually hits on a lock?? We think this week's has a pretty decent shot.TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Man, it feels good to have a victory Monday again after way too much time without one, AND it feels even better to do it against the F*ckn Falcons! #FTF forever and always. The team definitely played with just enough more passion and energy in getting this victory. Does this mean all issues are cured and we're back to post-week 2 energy? Of course, not. But we get into reasons for relishing in this one. But, as always, we dive into some off-the-beaten-path observations. With a one game sample of Rizzi at interim and the team getting healthier, what do we think we should expect of the team for the rest of the season? Both game-by-game and big picture. We get into all of that in this one. Definite must watch. TUNE IN! It's the start of the Post-Dennis Allen Era on Sunday in the Dome as the Saints take on the hated Atlanta Falcons. We've got your predictions in this episode plus a quick preview of the game and how we think the team will do in the first game under new Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi. Will it be RIZZmas come early or will the injuries, etc. still be too much to get the W? We've got ya covered with our predictions in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
The day has finally come. The news dropped this morning that the Saints FIRED Dennis Allen - much to the surprise of those of us who never saw this franchise firing a coach mid-season. Some of us say “props to Gayle”, others may say, she should have done more earlier. Either way - while it HAD to happen - firing DA is only the start of many moves that need to happen to get this franchise back to being a winner. Starting with Mickey! This one is a deep dive, but a great and necessary listen/watch if you want to be a Saints fan who sees the whole picture. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints actually go into this one as a pretty decent favorite by NFL standards for betting lines. Is this the week they can right the ship and get a W? or...at least start the process of righting the ship... We hand out our win/loss predictions, plus game MVP's PLUS, another week of COREY'S LOCK OF THE WEEK. He's got a good one in store for you this one. A rare yet consistent occurrence every year when teams with poor records play eachother. TUNE IN to find out what he has as his LOCK. Don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube Channel! This losing thing is definitely getting old, but as Saints fans who very much remember the "pre-Brees" days of the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, maybe it feels like old times? Not in a good way though. We recap what we think "went wrong" in the Chargers game, besides the fact that it's now clear we don't have a viable backup QB behind Carr. Defense was absolutely improved, but offense's absolute inability to move the ball rendered this one, essentially, a moot point (as much as we hate to admit it). That said, we do blame much of our struggles, in the face of these injuries, on a lack of depth and failure to draft for said depth - which - places the blame squarely on Mickey Loomis and the front office for the past few years of personnel management. BUT, that isn't to say the head coach is without blame at all for this stretch either. We all agree, he needs to go too. We dive deep into this "State of Affairs" issue in this episode. Definitely worth a listen.TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints have been making it harder every week to pick em to win, but with the team appearing to get a little healthier, can they avoid dropping to 2-6? PLUS, Corey's Lock of the Week, sponsored by Norton Leatherman Spine! TUNE IN to see what we have in store for you this week.WHO DAT?!
We took a few days off after the Saints' debacle of a loss to the Broncos on Thursday Night Football. It's obviously apparent that this team has gigantic issues to address if they have any hopes of getting back into the playoff picture and actually making "something" of the season. Yes, injuries are a factor, especially on offense; but the team's performance leaves one to only conclude it's a much larger issue. SPEAKING OF, our defense utterly failed to "bounce back" after a poor showing against the Bucs and turned in an even WORSE performance against the Broncos, allowing TWO HUNDRED yards rushing in the FIRST THREE QUARTERS. It's unacceptable on any level, BUT we get into a pretty good debate on just how much of the defense's terrible play can be blamed on the offense's inability to sustain drives and keep our defense OFF the field. TUNE IN for a solid all-encompassing episode. WHO DAT?!
"No rest for the weary" is usually just a cheap saying, but it seems like the Saints are feeling every bit of it given the CVS receipt/Dead Sea Scroll style injury list heading into their matchup on Thursday Night Football vs. the Denver Broncos, which features BOTH the Saints Hall of Fame induction of the greatest NFL football player of all-time, DREW BREES; AND the RETURN of Coach Sean Payton. We each lock in our game predictions in this one, so be sure to tune in to catch em. ...speaking of LOCKS...this episode features our FIRST sponsored segment, known officially as "COREY'S LOCK OF THE WEEK" brought to you by the Norton Leatherman Spine Center of Louisville Kentucky - the very FIRST sponsor of the 28 to 3 Podcast. We won't spoil any surprises, but let's just say you will NOT want to miss this brand new segment. Must watch til the end to catch it (but it's a short episode, so shouldn't be too hard). TUNE IN! BEAT THE BRONCOS! WHO DAT?!
We called it a "must win" going in and we were mostly optimistic, thought the defense would fare better than they did vs. the Chiefs, thought we'd feed off the excitement of Spencer Rattler's debut (which we all agree was all you could really ask for from a rookie debut), BUT...the Saints fell short and now it appears that the season's hopes hang by a thread. And...no rest for the weary as the next matchup comes on Thursday in the much-anticipated return of Sean Payton to the Dome wearing another team's threads, not to mention the Drew Brees Saints Hall of Fame induction happening the same night. With all of that, we had a lot of thoughts in this one, including what we think the team should do at QB going forward. Do we feel like the answer is simple and Derek Carr should retake the reins regardless of how Rattler looked on Sunday and going forward? Did we see enough out of Rattler to consider rolling with him for the remainder of the season? Or is that decision simply premature at this point? Plus, what the hell is up with the defense? How much is to blame on the offense's inability to sustain drives, thus keeping an aging unit on the field longer than it should be? Is there even ANY excuse, regardless of age/offensive woes for giving up almost SIX HUNDRED yards to the opposing offense? We get into all that and more in this one. TUNE IN! WHO DAT?!
We give our predictions for the Saints vs. Bucs matchup, but before we get there, we take a necessary dive into the announcement that Spencer Rattler will be taking the helm this week as the Saints Quarterback. Can't remember there ever being this much hype and excitement ahead of a start by a Saints QB since Brees, much less a ROOKIE Saints QB. But, we absolutely see the reasons for excitement. We also get into things we DONT see the reasons for, like the takes coming out of Saints twitter, etc, such as the conspiracy theories on whether Rattler's start is something DA and Carr actually did not want and whether certain fans won't be “happy” if Rattler succeeds because it won't further their point about Carr vs. Rattler as true QB1. We get into all of that and more in this one. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
We recap the Saints tough loss to the Chiefs on MNF in this one. Since this was truly a "team" loss, no matter how you splice it, naturally we have a lot to say about what went down in Arrowhead and how exactly it went down. Just when we thought the "coaching" was actually putting players in the right positions to win....they proved us wrong again! That said, this one definitely wasn't without player faults either - far from it. Also, could we really have expected more out of the offense with just how absolutely decimated the OL was? Or...did Carr panic just a bit too much and took us out of position to win? Also, despite "holding" the Chiefs to 26 points, can we really say the defense is without fault either? ALSO, and perhaps the BIGGEST question on Saints fans' minds is the renewed RATTLER VS. HAENER debate. There doesn't seem to be much disagreement among Saints fans on the idea that Rattler should start over Haener, but do we see it the same way? What would we do if we were the coach? More importantly, perhaps, what do we THINK the Saints/DA & Co. will do come Sunday vs. the Bucs. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints hit the road, traveling to Arrowhead to take on the reigning Super Bowl champs on Monday Night Football, and if there were ever a time for us to shake off two losses and eliminate mistakes for a win, THIS is the time. We each give our predictions in this one plus offensive and defensive MVP picks. HINT: ONE of us is predicting victory for the Black & Gold. Besides game predictions we preview the matchup and the first injury report out of Airline Drive, which is the only one we've gotten so far before recording this one. LISTEN IN to find out exactly where we think things stand heading into the Monday Night Matchup against the Chiefs. WHO DAT?!
Welp. That one sucked. Losing to ANY team when you score three TD's and allow NONE is always a tough pill, but especially against the damn falcons. With that loss, of course, has come renewed ire against both DA and Derek Carr, but...is that really warranted or is it really the issue at this point? We had absolutely no issue driving the #FireDennisAllen train last season, but can you really put the past two losses squarely on poor coaching or poor play from Derek Carr? The team's quality of play certainly paints a much different picture than what we saw out of last year's squad. Our opinion is that the mistakes in this game, at least, were so egregious (Shaheed's muffed punt, Adebo's PI) or "flukey" (Carr's pass dropping perfectly into a LB's hands), that you can't start sounding the "FIRE THE COACH" or "BENCH THE QB" alarms at this point. We get into that issue and a whole lot more, including an overall look at how this loss and the upcoming schedule sets the Saints up - or makes it more difficult - to end that playoff drought. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
It's the first #FalconsHateWeek of the 2024 Season, and we're bringing you our quick-hitting predictions episode. Do we all predict a win? Especially with the team riddled with injuries. BUT the distance our Saints could gain in the division with a win is HUGE, so....do they use that as enough motivation to overcome the adversity and pull it out?ALSO, we recorded this one on our annual beach trip, so...this one was recorded "live" in front of 7-8 of our long-time friends, which "may" include a special appearance at the end of the episode of "Carl J." but...who is "Carl J?" One way to definitely hear the "Carl J" audio is by joining our Patreon! at Patreon.com/28to3podcast - one of the many benefits of joining.Either way, LISTEN IN and BEAT THE FALCONS! WHO DAT?!
There's no denying Sunday's loss to the Eagles was a tough one to stomach. Adding insult to injury was our best offensive lineman and team captain Erik McCoy going down to a lengthy injury in the process. That said, it's hard to say there were not positives in this one, for instance, the defense allowed only 15 points to what is supposed to be a top shelf NFL offense, but...the same defense wasn't able to lock up the game in the closing minutes. There's also some criticism of Klint Kubiak's playcalling. Is it warranted, or was there truly no scheme or variety of play calls that could have overcome the complete ineptitude we saw from the offensive line, which, yes, was a mash unit on Sunday even with one injury to a starter. We get into all of those questions and more in this one. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints look to take the 2-0 barn-burning momentum back to the DOME as they take on the Eagles, and in honor of the Saints NINETY-ONE points scored in those two games, we bring you our NINETY-FIRST Episode. (How about that for coincidences. We did not plan this. Clearly). So, as we do before the games, we bring yall our game PREDICTIONS from each co-hosts, including offensive and defensive MVP picks. LISTEN IN to hear who you think will be right, and who may have some surprising picks.WHO DAT?!
Man, what an epic beat down of the Cowgirls in their own house! There were so many good things to talk about in this one, we won't even attempt to put it in this description. We get into everything that stood out in the best possible way in this one - which was a TON. But...it wouldn't be the 28 to 3 Podcast if we didn't bring up at least SOME things that cause disagreement and debate between the co-hosts. Such as, with all this newfound offensive success, ARE there things that still concern us with the offense moving forward? We debate that. Also, is AK back to being "old AK"? or do we still need something more from the RB position? Either way, this was a road win for the ages considering all the uncertainty this preseason. It's still Week 2, but great starts are monumental. Let's keep it going! WHO DAT?!
Our Saints march into Jerry World in the Big D on Sunday for a huge matchup against the Dallas COWGIRLS. It's our first matchup of the season against an NFC contend, so the big question after a beatdown of a lesser opponent is: Will we see our guys go toe to toe with the Cowgirls, taking much of that firepower from last week into this week? - Or, will it be more of what we saw last year, ie “look good” against bad teams/lose to the good teams? Maybe something in between?Listen in to this one to hear our takes on this!As always in our preview eps, we handout score and W/L predictions along with Offensive and Defensive MVP, BUT, as you'll notice, we're hitting these preview eps in a much quicker way and much more condensed format. It's 15-20 minutes, get into the predictions, MVP picks, maybe quick commentary on each others picks and sign off to start hyping up for the upcoming game. We think you'll enjoy the short format of these prediction/preview epsisodes. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
As perhaps only a New Orleans based, Saints podcast would do, we took some time while hunkering down waiting for Hurricane Francine to roll through to jump on remotely and talk Saints! Also, after a great episode with Jono Barnes #ThisShitMoreThanAGame while Nick was away, Nick, now known as Nick OVERHILL made his triumphant return. It was our first chance to truly recap the Saints Beatdown of the Panthers among the three of us, and we also took our time waiting for the power to go out to go off on some other random Saints tangents, make some presidential debate references, long forgotten Saints draft "misses", plus more. LISTEN IN for a good, hurricane hunker down edition episode. WHO DAT?!
Typically after a game we do a RECAP pod, and we do discuss the Saints' beat down of the Panthers, but with one of our favorite friends of the pod in town, we thought it was a great opportunity to get in some THIS SHIT MORE THAN A GAME energy and have JONO BARNES drop in to 28 to 3 Studios and talk all things Saints, recap the Panthers game, talk about the upcoming Cowboys matchup and really just shoot the shit and have a good time. We had Jono on the pod (for his first 28 to 3 guest appearance) last year before the Patriots game and it was one of our best episodes, so this one promises to be no different. PLUS, like he did last time, be sure to listen to the end of this one, as COACH Jono Barnes gives our Saints a "pregame speech" as only he can do it, much like he did before last year's Patriots game. LISTEN IN for a fun episode. WHO DAT?!
The Saints season opener is finally upon us, as the Panthers come into the DOME on Sunday at noon. After an offseason FULL of both speculation and consternation, which seemed to have drug on forever, we FINALLY get to see the full product of the new Klint Kubiak offense, paired with what has always been a solid Dennis Allen defense...or....at least that's what we are "expecting" to see on Sunday, but would we be correct in that expectation? Do we think we'll still see some of the glaring issues of the O-line thwart any "best laid plans" our new OC has? Or - do we think the team's work in the offseason will show us a product on Sunday that looks much different than last season and shows that they have something that can bring us a winning product? We break all of it down in this one and each give our opinions on what we think we can expect in this Week 1, Season Opening, DOME Opening matchup against the Carolina Panthers. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
It's that time of year where we roll out our comprehensive preview of how we think this Saints season sets up. We go in depth into each position group, what we think we can expect and what we think the team's overall record will be when it's all said and done. PLUS, no season preview episode would be complete without our annual FEARLESS PREDICTIONS/28 to 3 Pod HOT TAKES. We definitely brought some interesting ones in this one, with a couple sprinkled in along the way. LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
Preseason is wrapping up and the Saints have until Tuesday (after the Titans game) to get their roster down from 90 to 53 men. We go through all the position groups and give our “expert” opinions and predictions on who will make the Final Cut. Some of our picks may surprise? Did we get them right? Are any just dead wrong?LISTEN IN! WHO DAT?!
