Last week while the streets of Minneapolis filled with angry protesters choking on clouds of tear gas and images of ICE agents terrorizing people flooded social media feeds Fox News set its sights on the real danger - radicalized left-wing women.According to the network suburban soccer moms and urban childless cat ladies were pawns for a sophisticated Democratic Party domestic terrorist plot. Naive women were the foot soldiers to sacrifice at the altar of open border policies and foreign criminal syndicates.ICE agents might have weapons, body armor, face masks, tear gas, pepper spray, and the ability to take away a person's liberty plus the backing of a corrupt federal government but un-armed, loud women with shaved heads and protest signs are the real threat. The word ‘women' appeared 194 times in the transcripts last week. The word appeared 72 times in transcripts from Jesse Watters Primetime.Watters was working out his misogynistic baggage as he reduced women to helpless creatures who were tools in a game they didn't understand. Watters is the same Fox News host who constantly whines about his damaged relationship with his mother, tells embarrassing stories about his second wife and pontificates on what he believes is proper masculine behavior. Marvin Wickware came on to talk about his lecture from the Democracy in Tension summit and his book Loving Through Enmity, and we got into some really beautiful and difficult territory. Marvin's story is powerful - raised by an interracial couple in 1980s Indiana who were treated terribly by churches, converted through evangelical campus ministry, ended up at Union studying with James Cone, and that's where his faith, his values, and his intellectual work all clicked together. We talked about need-based love as an ethical framework, how both democracy and Christianity are aspirational projects that we're always falling short of, and how to navigate the gap between ideals and reality without either abandoning the dream or using it to mask our failures. Marvin shared about being a black theologian in predominantly white mainline spaces, the importance of having people on your side who can tell you you're not crazy, and how to practice love toward enemies without being naive about power and harm. It's the kind of conversation that makes you think differently about what love actually requires of us in this political moment. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Will Wang from Sanford Burnham Prebys about his work on muscle stem cell repair, regeneration, and aging, exploring spatial-omics and machine learning. We begin our conversation by exploring the traditional concepts of spatial biology and how they have evolved to play a critical role in disease research. Dr. Wang recounts his journey from a young student in a family of academics to becoming a leading figure in regenerative biology, highlighting how his early interests in life sciences, natural problem-solving abilities, and inspirations from mentorship set the stage for his current research trajectory. Throughout the discussion, we uncover key insights on how muscle stem cells transition from a quiescent state to a proliferative state in response to injury and how this dynamic process is governed by the epigenetic landscape and various signalling pathways. Dr. Wang emphasises the impact of external factors—be it microenvironment conditions or metabolic cues—on the fate and function of these stem cells, reflecting on the methodologies used to investigate these processes throughout his career. He shares fascinating findings from his PhD work, where he explored the regulatory role of transcription factors like PAC-7 in muscle stem cell activation, and how subsequent research developed in his postdoc at Stanford further illuminated the relationship between metabolism and histone acetylation. This pivotal work not only demonstrated how metabolic states dictate epigenetic modifications but also offered potential therapeutic insights for muscle degeneration and repair. As we move into more recent projects, Dr. Wang discusses the advances in multiplexed spatial proteomics and the insights garnered from a single-cell spatiotemporal atlas of muscle regeneration, which highlight the cellular heterogeneity in muscle tissue. He describes the use of novel computational tools, including neural networks, to uncover the regulatory mechanisms underlying stem cell function, particularly how prostaglandin signalling informs the regeneration process and how age impacts stem cell efficacy. The episode then wraps up with an engaging dialogue about the future implications of Dr. Wang's work in addressing age-related muscle degradation and broader applications in regenerative medicine. When we read of the disciples slowness to properly understand Messiah's words, it would do us well to humbly admit that here we see ourselves. Are you ever found naive and ignorant? Would you even know it if you were? Let's find out!
What's up yall, I'm back to just ramble off lol being naive about something that's right in your face, how come everyone holds everyone up against this “streets” mentality but it's so frowned upon in the same instance, I really just said whatever came to mind, bare with me
In today's episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Catherine Shu, MD, about the use of tepotinib (Tepmetko) in patients with non–small cell lung cancer harboring MET exon 14 skipping mutations. Dr Shu is the Price Family Associate Professor of Medicine and the clinical director of the Thoracic Medical Oncology Service at the Columbia University Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York, New York. In our exclusive interview, Dr Shu discussed updated data from the phase 2 VISION trial (NCT02864992) that investigated tepotinib in this population, the notable efficacy of this agent in treatment-naive patients, and considerations for managing and mitigating the adverse effects associated with this therapy.
Send us a text***UPDATED RECORDING*** In a world overflowing with noise, urgency, and endless distraction, it's easy to forget the medicine that's been with us since childhood: levity, laughter, and face-to-face connection. In this episode, Kris explores why joy is not a luxury, but a form of nourishment — a spiritual technology that reconnects us to each other and to the truth of who we are. Through the lens of “Game Time Unplugged,” she reflects on the power of gathering around a table, sharing belly laughs, and rediscovering real human presence without screens. You'll hear: • Why levity regulates the nervous system • How analog play helps us remember our oneness • The magic of rituals that bring families + neighbors together • Stories of laughter, mischief, and moments that melt stress away
Natural Resources Minister Tim Hodgson briefed an uneasy B.C. Liberal caucus on the upcoming Ottawa-Alberta agreement on Wednesday. A government source called it a 'good' discussion — but other sources in the meeting say Hodgson used words like 'naive' and 'ideological' to describe their political and environmental concerns. Plus, the presidents of steel and lumber trade groups discuss whether Ottawa's new suite of supports for their industries will be enough for them to survive U.S. tariffs as trade talks remain frozen.

Episode 361 of RevolutionZ continues the sequence of episodes culled from the book in process: The Wind Cries Freedom. The episode's title is "Hope Is Not Naive, Cynicism Is Counterproductive, Fight To Win." It opens with a succinct look at our own time's authoritarianism and the information ecosystem that rewards fear and lies over solidarity and truth. It then takes up the oral history by presenting three future revolutionaries who RevolutionZ regulars have already met--Alexandra Voline, Senator Malcolm King, and Andre Goldman--to talk with them about how their movement facilitated hope, redesigned incentives, and made sustained participation both possible and meaningful.Alexandra describes the prevalence of cynicism and how she worked to supportively flip the frame from “people are bad” to “what makes good people act badly.” She describes how schools, workplaces, families, media, and policing reward domination while they punish solidarity—and she shows how RPS worked to have cooperation and solidarity overcome competition and anti-sociality.Senator King traces his path from studying history in college to working on the factory floor, to traversing the Senate. Along the way he explains why to meet people where they are at is not an overused slogan but a method for building real solidarity, even with opponents. He considers his electoral motives and choices and particularly various class interests and pressures that played prominent roles in each.. Andre dives into what made RPS different. He describes how it redefined the calculus of success beyond activists noticing only quick wins or losses to also highlight wider and longer term consequences. He shows how RPS struggled to ensure that its every campaign left participants prepared and eager to go further, and how RPS treated attrition due to internal and interpersonal conflicts and flaws as an obstacle to transcend not dodge. This episode, like others of the same sequence, presents only one chapter among thirty, and though it is therefore only partial, the interviewees do address their feelings, motives, ideas, and practices. They answer Miguel Guevara's questions to address the shift from activist spectacle to activist strategy. They explain why style matters but cannot replace substance. They show how a politics of everyday life—shared power, accountable process, and sincere care—is able to turn moments of opposition that might otherwise fade away into sustained movements. The thread through it all is not solely slogans, or even only worthy values, nor even just details of episodic activist encounters, but informed descriptions of strategic and visionary activity. For them and for so many others, the interviewees report how RPS offered a way past cynicism and despair able to respect both head and heart. They describe the emergence and use of specific thoughts and practices helped to cultivate informed hope, build resistance, and pursue positive desires that lasted. Perhaps you will give these participants a listen. If you do, will this segment of the longer oral history ring plausible for you? Will you find useful insights in its words? That is the episode's hope, and If if it does resonate usefully for you, perhaps you will let others know about the interviewees' stories while you also refine and enrich them with your own insights.Support the show
Naive cynicism makes collaboration feel like competition. In this episode, we unpack the subtle bias that convinces us we're objective while hidden motives drive everyone else, and explore how that thinking slowly erodes trust and teamwork. What happens when you stop seeing your teammates as collaborators and start seeing them as competitors with hidden motives?Ever had a PM question your design and immediately thought, “They just care about their roadmap”? That instinctive thought isn't insight, it's naive cynicism, the quiet bias that makes us assume we're objective while everyone else is playing politics. In this episode, we dig into the research from Lee Ross, Emily Pronin, Justin Krueger, and Thomas Gilovich to uncover how this bias takes root in teams. From design critiques and sprint reviews to roadmap discussions and leadership dynamics, naive cynicism distorts collaboration by replacing curiosity with suspicion. You'll learn how this bias shows up in everyday team interactions and what you can do to stop it. We'll explore how to recognize your own illusion of objectivity, make reasoning visible, and rebuild trust through transparency and generosity. Because collaboration only works when we give each other the benefit of the doubt.Topics:• 01:48 - Recognizing Naive Cynicism in Teams• 03:01 - Understanding the Roots of Naive Cynicism• 04:45 - Impact of Naive Cynicism on Team Dynamics• 07:11 - Strategies to Counter Naive CynicismTo explore more about the Naive Cynicism, don't miss the full article @ cognitioncatalog.com—Thanks for listening! Within hours of each other, two things happened that changed Coleman Cowan's life. While waiting to take a deposition as a young associate, he realized that his reward for working hard would be more hard work. Hours later, while leaving that deposition, he was shot in a random mugging. Despite colleagues calling him “crazy,” Coleman left law to pursue journalism, eventually becoming an Emmy-winning producer for “60 Minutes.” In this conversation with host Amber Nimocks, he discusses his journey from North Carolina courtrooms to war zones around the world and back to North Carolina, where he now leads the litigation section at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. Coleman also previews his upcoming presentation at NCAJ's Strategy Summit. Called “To Live, Not Exist: What Our Experiences Can Teach Us About Managing Stress and Anxiety,” his program will be on Oct. 23, the first day of the two-day summit.

THIS WEEK'S MESSAGE: Today's Fireside is a call to remember the potency of your attention, energy and belief in MORE possibility, wonder, awe, healing and love. That when we choose to believe and act with the belief that what we want to create more of in the world isn't just needed, but POSSIBLE, that's when we create the ripples and change the energetic frequency of the world. You are part of a great whole... playing your instrument just the way that you crave to, activates and churns the orchestra to life. What would happen if we chose to believe that the craving/longing/invitation we see in the lives and businesses we want to create are not only meant for us, but they're meant for the world?! That's how we usher in that new paradigm. It first begins with each of us deciding we ARE powerful and we WILL see love change the world, because it first changed us.---------------------------------------- "A better world isn't naive - it's overdue." In our angry MAHA times, how can we get people trusting science and scientists again. According to MIT's Alan Lightman, one of America's greatest scientific writers, we need to both demystify science and humanize scientists. Lightman is the co-author, with Martin Rees, of The Shape of Wonder, a timely collection of essays about how scientists think, work, and live. We need to learn from scientists like Albert Einstein, Lightman - himself the author of the 1993 classic Einstein's Dreams, suggests. He argues that Einstein's "naive" willingness to challenge millennia of thinking about time exemplifies the wonder that drives great science. Lightman discusses why scientists have become entangled with "elite establishments" in our populist moment, and argues that critical scientific thinking—from balancing checkbooks to diagnosing a child's fever—belongs to everyone, not just scientists. So make America smart again (MASA), by demystifying science and humanizing scientists.1. "Naive" questioning drives breakthrough science Einstein revolutionized physics at 26 by refusing to accept millennia of received wisdom about time—showing that great science requires childlike willingness to challenge fundamental assumptions.2. Scientists are victims of populist backlash The mistrust of science isn't really about science—it's part of a global populist movement against "elite establishments," fueled by social media, immigration fears, and growing wealth inequality.3. Wonder requires discipline, not just awe Unlike a child's wonder, scientific wonder comes with tools—both experimental and theoretical—for actually understanding how things work, making it "disciplined wonder."4. Scientists shouldn't be authorities beyond science Even Einstein or Nobel laureates like Geoffrey Hinton have no special authority on ethics, philosophy, or politics—they're just smart people with opinions like everyone else.5. Critical thinking belongs to everyone When you balance your checkbook or diagnose a child's fever, you're using scientific thinking. Science isn't an elite activity—it's a method we all already practice in daily life.Keen On America is a reader-supported publication. Why Being Naive Will CRUSH You
Ever said “Screw it, I'll figure it out” and leapt into something you had "no business" (according to some) doing? GOOD. That's what we're talking about in this fiery solo episode of Dancing in the Discomfort Zone—the bold, beautiful magic of naive arrogance. It's that irrational confidence that gets things moving when logic, fear, and perfectionism are trying to slam on the brakes. You don't need a perfect plan. You need a starting point. And a little guts. We'll explore:

Law professor Daniel Ho says that the law is ripe for AI innovation, but a lot is at stake. Naive application of AI can lead to rampant hallucinations in over 80 percent of legal queries, so much research remains to be done in the field. Ho tells how California counties recently used AI to find and redact racist property covenants from their laws—a task predicted to take years, reduced to days. Missing from the gang are Kira and Dax, who have gone to the Bajoran moon Luna V to ask the local palukoo spider-dogs if they can borrow an abandoned raider from the days of the Occupation. They plan to crash the Chamber of Ministers and reveal evidence that the Cardassians are supplying The Circle with weapons. General Krim and his sidekick, Colonel Day, easily succumb to the crew's guerrilla tactics and hand the station back over to Sisko. But things don't turn out so rosy for the Navarch. Magician, Swiss Watchmaker, Aloof, Elegant, Precise, Soulful, Childlike, Naive, Warm: these are all words that have been used to describe Maurice Ravel, a man of elegant contradictions. But perhaps these contradictions are why his music remains so beloved and universally appealing to so many musicians and audience members. Ravel has long been one of my favorite composers, and I always adore listening to his music and performing it. For the 150th anniversary of his birth, the legendary publishing house of G Henle has decided to focus on Ravel and his circle this year, calling this series Ravel and Friends. A few months ago, the Henle office contacted me to ask if I would be willing to collaborate with them on a series of Sticky Notes episodes about Ravel, each one focusing on the relationship between Ravel and another composer who was in his circle. This sounded like an amazing idea, and so I jumped at the chance to work with them. So, over the course of the next 5-6 months, you will be seeing 5 episodes under the Ravel and Friends theme. Today's episode will be a chance to do an overview on Ravel himself and to take a look at some major works that I haven't gotten around to covering on the show yet. We'll then finish the show with an interview with the great pianist Boris Giltburg, as we discuss the solo piano verison of Ravel's La Valse, one of the most challenging pieces in the entire repertoire. Later episodes will include a look at Ravel's relationships with Debussy, Gershwin, and De Falla, and much more! This is such an exciting chance to take a deeper look at one of the greatest 19th and 20th century composers, as well as take a look at the broader musical and social trends of that era, something I've always been deeply interested in.
