Two massive storylines emerged from the NFL Combine, and we're cutting through the noise on both. First up — Caleb Downs got flagged with a partially torn meniscus and a degenerative ACL, and the internet lost its mind. But what does "degenerative" actually mean, and should you be worried? We break down the medical terminology, compare it to past prospects like Jonathan Vilma, Todd Gurley, and Jay Ajayi, and explain why teams aren't sweating this one. Caleb Downs' medical flags explained: what mucoid degeneration actually is, why it's far more common than people realize, and why multiple NFL teams say his stock won't drop Makai Lemon's combine interview disaster — from bizarre podium body language to anonymous scouts saying he "absolutely bombed it," we run through all the reports and what it means for his draft stock Kevin Cole's weighted combine analytics deep dive: which metrics actually correlate to NFL success vs. which ones teams overvalue, covering defensive tackles and edge rushers Hidden value prospects to watch: DeMonte Capehart, Zane Durant, Mason Rieger, George Gums Jr., and Romello Height all flash as underrated athletic profiles Don't miss tomorrow's episode where we'll tackle linebackers, corners, and safeties through the same analytical lens. Ohio State's Sonny Styles put on an absolute show at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday. The 6-foot-5, 244-pound Styles recorded a vertical leap of 43.5 inches, which is the highest for an off-ball linebacker in 23 years. He also ran the 40-yard dash in 4.46 seconds and recorded a standing broad jump of 11'2" which was also the best among all linebackers and defensive linemen who took part Thursday. (He was the only player on Thursday to top 11 feet.) Also, many draft analysts now have Caleb Downs projected as the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, with Mel Kiper being the latest. Many others still have Arvell Reese going off the board at No. 2. Will the Jets' pick come down to one of those two Buckeyes? And did Styles enter his name in the conversation after wowing everyone in attendance in Indianapolis yesterday? Jonah Booker and Dave Biddle discuss all of that and much more on the Friday 5ish. Are the Giants actually listening on Kayvon Thibodeaux at the Combine, and if so, what's the real return that makes it worth it? Shaun and Tiki break down why dumping Kayvon for a Day 3 pick feels like malpractice, why waves of pass rush matter, and what a smarter player-for-player deal could look like. Then the conversation expands into other names floating around the league: Tremaine Edmunds as a potential linebacker fix, Sam LaPorta as a dream weapon for a young QB, and why Jeremiah Love at No. 5 screams smokescreen. Plus, callers weigh in on Caleb Downs, the Giants' real needs (LB, CB, OT), and the risk of “luxury picks” when you're not good enough yet.
Shaun and Tiki break down the idea of trading for Tremaine Edmunds and why adding a proven veteran linebacker could stabilize a young defense, especially with major turnover expected at the position. They examine Bobby Okereke's future, the value of experience on a rebuilding roster, and why Edmunds could still have several productive years left. The conversation then shifts to the Giants' No. 5 pick and the ongoing running back chatter, with the guys arguing the team has far bigger needs than adding another ball carrier. Is this pick better used on defense, the offensive line, or by moving down to gain assets? Plus, a heated discussion on Caleb Downs' value as a potential game-changing safety, the roster's true weaknesses, and quick Hall of Fame thoughts on Brandon Marshall and London Fletcher.
