A weekly awards show/wrap-up of the week that was in the world of comics, hosted by a husband and wife team of journalist comic book fans in NYC. Weekly features include sound effects and swearing.
Oh hiiiiiiiiiiii. Sorry, we've been locked out of the house for the past two years, nine months and 12 days, it was incredibly inconvenient, the cats are pissed. The point is, since the last episode of Awesomed By Comics, we've had another kid, moved, had a combined four jobs and blah blah blah you don't care. The point is, we got away this weekend and bought some comics and recorded an episode to talk about those comics, some of which are new this (last) week, some of which are not, all of which confused us because what is even going on in comics. We don't know when this will happen again, so join us as we struggle through. MISSED U BBs.
Happy New Year! In this episode of Awesomed By Comics, we talk about some books we missed, wonder what happened to events, and look back on--what? Why are you looking at us like that? Why is that vein popping out of your forehead, are you having a--wait why are you screaming STOP SCREAMING! WE'RE SORRY, WE'RE SORRY OKAY?!? WE'VE BEEN BUSY! WE STILL LOVE YOU! WE'LL CHANGE, WE PROMISE WE'LL CHANGE!! So yeah, after nine months of three job changes each, two coasts, lots of stress eating and zero podcasts, we bring you a brand-spanking-new episode of Awesomed By Comics to kick off 2014. It's not a Year In Review show because we had very little year to review, and it's not a Week In Review show because we talk about comics over several weeks, but it is a real show and we did put in effort so we hope you'll give us another chance. Our New Years Resolution is to do this at least once a month, so we're counting on you to HOLD OUR ASSES ACCOUNTABLE. Special thank you to guest star , and to each and every one of you who bothers to listen. LET'S GO 2014! USA! USA!
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is not to be confused with Episode #170, which was fully recorded and edited (on Oscar Night no less), but then infected with a technovirus and now lives in its own pocket universe where you can hear it if you listen extremely closely during the 187th minute of R.E.M. (the sleep, not the band). We're actually at a place where we're giving awards to the current week's comics, although it may or may not be the same current week when this is actually released, you'll never know. Thanks for hangin in, partners.
Yearly Awards for what we thought this weekend was the best of the last year! Turns out we only did 10 shows last year. We're shooting for at least a 50% increase this year. There's a TON of stuff we didn't get to read - so tell us what your favorites were! What did the fish say to the other fish in the fish place? Something smells fishy to me!
This episode features a show within our usual show within a show, so you know it'll be special! Lots of winners from the last few weeks. And from this week too, because Aaron didn't know we could go back and use previous weeks. If he did, all of his winners would be from Maus. The most important thing is that you go to and listen to The Ampersands' latest album, then purchase it if you enjoy it! That way we can make more albums, and also make more goofy theme songs and fake commercials for you guys.
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by the hurricane that we pretty much slept right through, and which did not give us an opportunity to bond while "hunkering down" but which was also far less destructive than it could have been which in the long run is a better thing for everyone. Winny wins this week for Mystery Men, Gotham City Sirens, Space Wolverines, Punishers, Captains America and Buckies and Confusingly-numbered Iron Man minis. We bid a fond farewell to this confusing iteration of Wonder Woman, and lament that the last-ever appearance of Oracle was as a side character in a hack-ass book. Plus Dr Who, Zelda, Vs. System, Pokemon Board Games, Iron Man Armored Adventures, The Origin of Stan, AND MANY MORE! The 150th is nigh! Be aware of street preachers and disco remixes! As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show.
As we creep closer to our 150th show, this episode is brought to you by the return of the Zen Koan .... which quickly devolves into rap videos and masturbation jokes. Many loves for Daredevil, All Nighter, Journey Into Mystery, The Stuff of Legend, Generation Hope, and Power Girl. Not many loves for talksploitation comics and the death of fun. Many shenanigans including several trips to the MyTube, followed by FriendFace and BookSpace. Also we need a damn window in our studio. Or at the very least, a donkey with a box fan attached to it who can mill about the house spreading its cool donkey breeze. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show.
Whoa Nelly! This 147th episode of the Awesomed By Comics Website is brought to you by a little speed lesson! You got a need for speed? Then let's rev it up! Speed-style! VROOM VROOM VROOOOOOOOM. This week we bid a melancholy and vaguely disappointing farewell to Batgirl, which has been one of the entire industry's most solid titles, month-after-month, for the last two years, and whose lead character is not going to be appearing in the relaunch stuff for a while anyway. We also bid a lousy farewell to this incarnation of Birds of Prey, who deserved better than the sendoff they got. As Thor might apparently say, "Weak sauce, brah. Totes weak sauce." The Unwritten takes an interesting turn, and might be setting itself up for a pretty ballsy move, while Cloak and Dagger make a relationship book work in the midst of an event tie-in. Plus Squrlgurl. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This extra-long episode of the Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by us soliciting ideas for our (now just four episodes away!!) 150th anniversary! That's right, Awesomed By Comics has been around for 150 years, 1874-2011!! Yes it does. Several of those years count as two or even three, if the crops were particularly bountiful. Anyway, this week renewed a lot of our faith in comics. Strong debuts for Rachel Rising, Severed, The Punisher, The Cape, Snarked and oh yeah, a certain new Ultimate hero. Strong endings for Secret Six and that thing about tennis which was silly but we loved it anyway. Plus great weeks for Irredeemable, Sweet Tooth, Thunderbolts, Hulk - MAN what a good week for comics. Also we talk about Iron Man Armored Adventures Season Two, which is off to a great start, and the next-to-last step for my band's next record which I've been working on and talking about for seriously at least two years. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
Hey! You know what? This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Horse Quotes, which we invite you to send in at your earliest convenience. We talk a little bit about the last couple weeks of books, recap the best and not-so-best of what we saw at SDCC, AND do our usual show about this week's books! It's like getting one and a quarter shows for the price of having to wait an extra two weeks! Which is not a very good deal at all! Venom, Gotham City Sirens, and Ultimate Fallout were all standouts this week, as were the first Ultimate Fallout and the debut of the all-new, all-not-miserable-anymore Daredevil. Meanwhile, an Eevee family was adorable and Dan DiDio was a colossal jackass at SDCC, but it appears DC is at least going to make an effort to address some of the concerns raised during its panels. (although we learned that too late to talk about it on the show.) Plus other stuff which I forget what it was because we recorded this a thousand days and three billion time zones ago. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by , which you can (and should) get to by googling "Wailord Pringles." Look, we did it for you, . Anyway, we're on that show this week as well, talking about Pokemon for a couple of hours. If you're the kind of person who listens to our show and thinks "man oh man, I wish they would just shut up about comics and get back to Pokemon!" (like I would be, if I listened to our show) then this is the show for you! If you're one of those people who merely tolerates our Pokemon talk, or even has complained about it in the comments or in email, then this is probably not the show for you, but we encourage you to download it anyway even if you have no intention of listening to it - just to make us look more influential than we are. Just download it and delete it, they'll never know. Unless they read this. Which they probably will. SHIT I SHOULD NOT HAVE EATEN THE BACKSPACE KEY ON THIS KEYBOARDE. Big wins this week for Generation Hope #8, Sweet Tooth #23, Secret Six #35, Spider Girl #8, Irredeemable #27 (and part of #26 - you'll see) and Thunderbolts #160. Plus despite some serious love for both Flashpoint and Fear Itself, we've got some ... issues. (one of which is too many damn Juggernauts. The other - we probably shouldn't describe here.) As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by the fact that you can pay Nick Spencer three bucks or some 80 year-old painter a lot more (we're assuming) for basically the same idea. Great week for some old-school avenging, some classic X-Mens bantering, some Harley bitchery, and goddamnit, why isn't Bruce Wayne building schools and funding fire departments and neighborhood watch organizations and whatnot? Also despite that Prelude to Schism will make us "understand what leads to the Schism that is coming!" why does it do no such thing? Also why does Montreal hate Pokemon? Also who is "Safeword?" Also should we get the Ocarina of Time 3DS remake? Or should Evie play it on the Wii? OR should we go get the N64 from the basement? SO MANY QUESTIONS HALP!! As always, leave your comments or picks on (where you can also see a picture and get the recipe for Pasta and Vegetables!) and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by special guest Ron Richards from iFanboy, who stops by in Evie's absence to talk about the books that came out this week, as well as one that came out a month ago, but Aaron's backup shop mislabeled. WHADDYAGONNADO. Big wins for David Hahn's All Nighter, Fraction and Coipel's Thor work, the second Rocketeer Adventures from IDW and the avocado-fueled adventures of Blake Griffin and whoever the hell "Carl" is. Some tempered complaints about the Ultimate Spidey spoiler and DC's weird-ass "cat in the tree" excuse, and Ron reveals his fear of cosplay and promises to come to New Jersey for episode 225. As always, leave your comments or picks on (where you can also see a picture and get the recipe for Pasta and Vegetables!) and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by a nine year-old who returned to his 3rd-grade class the joy of Pokemon through the power of persuasive letter-writing. We saw the Green Lantern movie (and didn't pay for it, thanks to .) and then we watched the Green Lantern cartoon thing, and we gave a bunch of awards to Power Girl and Batgirl, two of the strongest and most appealing female characters in comics, both of whom we only have a few more months to enjoy in their current incarnations. Crap to not knowing what the hell is going on in X-Men Schism and we break down why the interview format worked well in Guardians of the Galaxy but it's annoying as all hell in Avengers. But the real star of this show is PASTA AND VEGETABLES. As always, leave your comments or picks on (where you can also see a picture and get the recipe for Pasta and Vegetables!) and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Whale Facts, all of which are at least 140% true, and contain 0 grams of trans fat. In a week with a billion firsts and lasts, wins for Empowered, Mystery Men, 15 Love, Journey into Mystery, Unwritten, Kevin Keller, Birds of Prey, Rocket n' Groot, and others. We also briefly discuss the X-Men movie but spend more time on Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark because you guys all saw X-Men and every 45 minutes someone else writes something new and smart about it. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
Boy, this is a weird one. And not in an especially memorable way, except that we do break into Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea partway through. Evie's sick as , , and this week, and didn't have the energy to both make her list AND do the show, so we did the show just based off of Aaron's list, with Evie never having to exercise her veto power except for the categories where Image's The Mission #4 won stuff, because she hasn't been reading that. But she should be, as should all of you, because it's good, but I don't want to tell you what it's about because that would ruin some of the surprise. Also FF, Catwoman, Strange Adventures and X-Men win, while Green Lantern and Secret Avengers lose in ways that are trite and goofy, respectively. Oh and also, there's a brief technical hiccup where we lost the signal to the studio from our living room. SEE IF YOU CAN SPOT IT. (hint - I replaced the silence with the pokemon battle music, some cats and a gong.)Oh and also also, if I were a betting man, which I am not, which is good because I would lose a lot of money based on how bad I am at cell phone poker, but that's beside the point, I would bet on there not being a show next week as I'm heading to Atlanta on Sunday. But you never know, stranger things have happened. . That's a strange fish. And clearly it has happened. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics podcast is brought to you by life's questions. Questions like: 1) What is the traditional dance of Assam? 2) Has Rod Stewart ever been in a comic? 3) What was the name of the OTHER "Enigma" song? 4) What is Aaron's name? 5) How can we get the kitten to stop going through the garbage? And also we talk comics a little bit, with the cute little category thing that we do. Great weeks for usual suspects X-Factor and Power Girl, some Ultimate business leads to some Ultimate confusion, I'm pretty sure we dedicate an "eh" joke or two to Alpha Flight, and also Man Bull. BTW - expect holiday hijinx (hyjinx? "Hi ?") to lead to another late show next week. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you, once again, by the Spectacular Superfriends Show, which has become even more spectacular since last time, if you can believe that! Loki and Savoy steal the show, with additional wins for Abnett & Lanning's solid start to New Mutants, a fun villain reveal in Birds of Prey, and Sue Storm's awesome hair. Also Smallville was Smallville for the last time. But seriously, come to the show on Thursday. You'll be awesomed by it. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by on May 19 at Littlefield in Brooklyn, starring , (aka Aaron), Michael Kupperman, Daniel St. Germain and Chris Gethard, the proununciation of which we experiment upon (was really trying not to end this sentence with a preposition). We of course talk about the new eye-candy Thor movie, as well as excellent editions of Heroes for Hire, Herc, Annihilators, Sweet Tooth, Blue Estate and Secret Six. Fear Itself continues to inspire ambivalence, which does not mean indifference so please don't yell at us. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by, apparently, the fact that all of you, supposedly, like Evie better than Aaron and subconsciously psychically direct your good vibes more in her general direction, or something. Lots of great team books this week, with Thunderbolts, Generation Hope, X-Factor and Power Girl (which is sort of a team book at the moment) coming out on top. It's a handsy week, as nearly everyone cops a feel, and Aaron thinks this is awesome. The new season of Doctor Who premieres, thank god, as does a fun new Doctor Who comic. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Aaron's new laptop, as we mourn the death of the old one, which had all the scripts and stuff on it. Aaron's finally fully on board the Nick Spencer gravytrain as he pours his meaty gloop onto comic book swedish meatballs known as Infinite Vacation. Meanwhile, the Unwritten crew take a vacation of their own, to explore what happens when an ill-tempered and foul-mouthed human gets stuck in a storybook land, Allegiances are formed, allies are left behind, and heroes go missing. Dark and interesting stuff exploring faith and commitment in both. Also, Murray Spiderman gets a shoutout, Ultimate Spider-man gets shot at, while Amazing Spiderman cracks wise. Catman and Huntress would have really great sex, I think. Probably neither of them would employ the shocker, which we spend an inordinate amount of time discussing. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This "back from a computer-imposed week off" episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by a very special episode of our very favorite other podcast, featuring a very special artist who has decided to charge a very special $200 for interviews because his very special art career is very specially over. Big wins for Uncanny X-Men's "point one" issue, a turning point for "Who is Jake Ellis," some hero/villain turns in Secret Six, a great start for the new Herc, a pretty good start for Nonplayer, and a pretty bad start for the Fear Itself tie-in book. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by the debut of what will likely be a Summer-long feature, in which Aaron recaps how 11 listeners, creators, and fellow podcasters will most likely do much, much better than Aaron at fantasy baseball. Victories abound for FF, DD, Mon Mon, The Mission, Magic Batman, Superlamb, and the niffles. Also, since Evie doesn't listen to the show, there's a bunch of stuff Chris from WRA and I have already covered, including Poker Face, the WW Costume, and last week's Unwritten. Oh, and also we're on , you should listen to find out about zoos near you! As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Comics Alliance, no matter which member of their team is joining is. This week, Chris Sims sits in for Laura Hudson, who was feeling under the weather and couldn't sit in for Evie, who is in Austin, sitting in her hotel room writing a zillion articles about SXSW. Lots of sitting in, is what I'm getting at. Also, you may notice the audio quality is a little less than usual - I accidentally encoded the final mix at a lower frequency than we usually use, and I didn't save the session, so I would have had to recreate it from the raw files and IT'S NOT THAT BAD JUST DEAL. The Unwritten gets subtextually Biblical, Knight and Squire get whimsically serious, and Archie and the gang (which this week includes Spidey, Korvac, Santanna, Dueling Cyclops/Hope relationships, a plastic dart-shooting hammer and Joey's Rattata) are celebrated. Also Sims gives an award to a book that won a different award last week. I WONDER WHICH ONE THAT COULD BE?!?! As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This SWEAR-FREE episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by maybe the dumbest thing we've ever done on this show, although I predict a handful of you will say we'll eclipse even that about 26 minutes later.* Many. many wins for two great books led by two of comics' most heroic teddy bears; Max from The Stuff of Legend, and J. Jonah Jameson. Plus Ennis' soccer-mom Punisher, Jaime's red light red light red light GREEN LIGHT, and even if we can't have Runaways, at least we get their parents. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show ! * We value** your opinions. ** This is honestly not sarcasm at the moment, but we reserve the right to ask you to read it as such, should the need arise.
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by slightly off poems about the sad demise of one of our show's earliest fake champions. It's a great comics week, between Secret Six, X-Factor, Sweet Tooth, Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts and the debut of a new Axe Cop series. Great non-comics week, with the release of the first new Pokemon game in four years, about which Aaron is more excited than probably any other exciting past or future life milestone. And thanks to a movie theater's awesome screw up this weekend, we also witnessed the funniest 10 minutes of all motherf&*($in time. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Skullkickers #6, in stores now from Image Comics, and if I knew how to make animated gifs, I would make one that just flashed SKULLKICKERS #6 IN STORES NOW and had muppets. Our good friend Chris Sims (author of the first story in the aforementioned Skullkickers #6) sits in for Evie, who just presented a paper on Gene Simmons at a music academia conference in LA, and I am told it went "good." This episode is a true celebration of comics, which includes men of iron, fists of iron, girls of power, men of power, jims of gordon, roller disco, and a whole lot of mourning, including some of our own for the passing of beloved creator Dwayne McDuffie. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
This "top 9!" episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by our good friend and special guest , and his . Big wins this week for blue covers, Johnny Red, a pinkish surfer, red and green hulks, a grey ghost and a yellow-bellied superman analogue. Booster Gold however...well, it did technically "win" something. Plus we stand up for the motor city, chat about Chat, try to process S.H.I.E.L.D. and remember briefly that Force Works existed, although we will all have forgotten again by next week. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by a very irritated Aaron, who became even more irritated after he edited the show and realized he wasn't actually as irritated as he thought he was, and that he interrupted the show during the editing process for no real reason. Also the dryer caught on fire yesterday and a cat clawed me in the leg and whatever X-FACTOR WAS GREAT AND SO WAS POWER MAN AND IRON FIST AND BATGIRL AND OMG THEY KILLED A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE THIS WEEK AND THE WHOLE HOUSE SMELLS LIKE BURNED OUT DRYER AND SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAVE MEEEEEEE. Also, BOYS RULE GIRLS DROOL! As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Evie's back! Seriously, her back donated a year's worth of hosting fees, and while we're not quite sure where it got the money, we're thankful for the gesture. We recorded this show instead of watching the Super Bowl, because we don't really care about either team, and would rather it have been a matchup of the two generic teams on the Best Buy circulars telling you to get a new tv for the copyright-free "Big Game" (we've got $100 on the team with the all blue helmets, vs the team with the all red helmets.) Meanwhile in comics land, wins for Incorruptible, Spider-Girl, Secret Six, Jimmy Olsen, a cleavage-less issue of Gotham City Sirens, and a much-needed breather issue of Sweet Tooth. Plus a rare OGN win leads Aaron to reminisce about working at a copy shop in the mid 90's. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Fantastic Fangirls and the friendly, fundamentally first-rate feelings of their founder*, the fabulous Caroline, whose name really should begin with a different letter. Big wins for Dr Faustus, Hercules, Joker, Human Torch, Twilight Guardian, an old camera, and I seriously think the rest was all Bendis, Ultimate and otherwise. Evie is still AWOL, and she may or may not be back next week but YOU'LL NEVER KNOW BECAUSE THAT EPISODE WILL BE POLY-BAGGED. *maybe? probably co-founder, but that breaks the alliteration. My sincere apologies to her partners over there if this information is faulty, false, fallacious, fictitious, fraudulent, or fishy. As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by some pretty sweet aughts jazz, and the comic book analysis stylings of the delightful Kelly Thompson (from whom you can get lots more , or , or , or .) And please go get the - it'll make us look influential. With Evie out of the country for the week, Kelly and Aaron stage a bit of a "getting to know your taste in comics" marathon, as you might expect from people who have never spoken to each other before, as opposed to people who have lived together for 6 years. Big wins for Wolverine and Jubilee, The Boys, Memoir, and ... Buffy! (Another first!) As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
This episode of Evie & Aaron and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Weekend is brought to you by compromised immune systems and the inability to STOP THE RUN. We give much respect to two future-tech-idea-driven comics at different ends of their runs (The Infinite Vacation and Vision Machine) pay tribute to the always exceptional Secret Six, and Aaron has a bit of trouble with the proximity of the "O" and "P" keys on the keyboard. Speaking of which, Heroes for Hire keeps rolling, Daredevil and Superman start to get back on track (despite a shit beginning and some ridiculous proportions for Lois) and we bid a fond farewell to Thor: The Mighty Avenger without having ever learned the identity of the mysterious "" As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show!
Happy New Year, again! This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Stump the Music Critic, in which Aaron puts Evie to the test about music trivia and naturally cheats like it's his job. This week's awards have praise, gasps and tears for Sweet Tooth, cheers for Thanos Imperative: Devastation and Who is Jake Ellis?, as well as predictable love for X-Factor, even with its questionable jokes. We hand out some thank yous for year-end gifts, and there is some extra Pokemon talk if you need to fast forward. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
Let's all start the New Year off right - by taking care of the stuff we were supposed to have done last week! Namely, our year-end show. We trot out dozens and dozens of nominee-nominees, some of which become actual nominees, and of those, some of them will win! "When, When, When," you ask? "Why, right now!" we reply, also in Italian. We've also added a donate button to the website (/) and you can also go there to check out the full list of nominee-nominees. And as always, tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This later-than-usual episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by at Rutgers University, which has an amazing comics collection for an ice cream parlor. Try the ABCP Double-Pie, which is not called that and they will look at you funny if you ask for it, but is a scoop of pumpkin pie and a scoop of apple pie. Big wins for Chaos War, Birds of Prey, and X-Factor. Some interesting stuff going on in The Occultist. Aaron flips through Superman: Earth One and spots a painfully stupid mistake. And, surprise surprise, we gush about The Unwritten. Taking a bit of a break from the regular show for a couple of weeks, but our annual year-end spectacular will be here soon to more than tide you over. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by misinformation about the website of our very special guest, artist and writer extraordinaire ! Colleen delivers delightful rants and raves about her comics picks, pans, and personal projects, and even recommends a book that is made up almost entirely of words!? We have hundreds of love-units for Fables #100, mighty affection for Thor: The Mighty Avenger, fresh giggles for "New Avengers," and three cubes for new series 27. Evie also reports on Black Swan, which is awesomely bonkers, and you should all go see it even if Aaron would hate it. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Sue from , who turns our show into ABCP Women (and technically also a guy, but whatever) Kicking Ass! Huge wins for some of our favorite creators, as Gail Simone's Secret Six, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's Heroes for Hire, and Fred Van Lente's Taskmaster take home the big prizes, and most of the little ones too. Also, Crap of the Week has never been so literal. Plus, a dog!!! Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Lastic Man, who probably should have either an E or a P in front of his name, but don't tell the lawyers. Big wins for Incorruptible, Ultimate Spider-Man, Thor: The Mighty Avenger and Taskmaster. Also winning big was the common cold, which soundly defeated Evie - and listener Jen, who soundly defeated Aaron. (post-credits, Aaron narrates his half of a couple of yugioh battles, which did not end well for him.) We bid a fond farewell to Leslie Nielsen, talk a lot about The Boys even though it didn't come out this week, and Aaron invents shoes. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This long-awaited episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by oh hey hello, how have you been in the three weeks since we've done a show? Any graduations, engagements, birth announcements? Really??? That's awesome!!! Yes we are back, after some work travel and music travel and some that was both at once. We unsurprisingly heap unending praise on Spider-Girl, Thunderbolts (except for ONE BAD THING) and Morning Glories, and perhaps somewhat surprisingly enjoy us a lot of Batmans. We also give mad ups to Superman-Batman, which is neither surprising nor unsurprising unless you also read it and know us at all, in which case, duh. There's a discussion about the new Harry Potter movie, and Aaron needs video game recommendations! Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
If you think ABCP only stands for Awesomed By Comics Podcast, you are barking up the wrong tootin' tree! On this week's show, ABCP stand for "Awesomed by Clapping and Pokemon." Aaron is away working on The Ampersands' next album, but is giving all of you the chance to appear on it, by participating in a slightly advanced 3rd grade music lesson. Ta (rest) Ta (rest) Ti Ti Ta (rest). After that, Aaron and Evie and then Aaron again match poke-wits against friend of the show and now FOUR-time guest, Chris Sims from War Rocket Ajax and Comics Alliance. Listen in, as Chris is given the greatest gift of all. ... No, not friendship. An Omastar. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show! And if by some bizarre chance this happens to be your first episode, then please listen to the previous one (or really, any other at random) to get a better sense of what this here thing is usually like.
This Halloween episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the combined forces of Lord Byron, John Stamos and the undead. Major awards this week go to the adorable Ultimate Spider-Man, the super duper adorable Hellboy/Beasts of Burden one-shot, the fierce and surprising Amazing Spiderman, and Tom Fowler's portrayal of in Deadpool Team-Up. We talk about "Red," the movie that has about as much to do with the comic it was based on as , and alert you that at least one of us will be out of town for the next two weeks, but we'll have at least one special thing with which to hold you over in the mean time. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Andy Partridge of XTC and the band's seminal 1980 album "Black Sea" produced by Steve Lillywhite, because we're testing a theory. Major awards this week to X-Factor #210, Morning Glories #3, Hulk #26, Loki #1, creative business models, and one of Aaron's asinine conspiracy theories. This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Evie's Birthday, with a special message from her mom! As usual, big wins for The Unwritten and Echo, Bruce Wayne's back before he's gotten back, Aaron can't understand why he doesn't hate Walkin' Supes as much as he probably should, and the new Knight and Squire knocks Evie base over apex and makes her want to shove madam palm and 'er five sisters in the map of tassie, innit? But the book's banging on about faff gives Aaron the habadabs. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you almost entirely by the contents of New York Comic Con. (Comicon? Comic-Con? Spiderman? Spider-Man? Spader-James?) We take a break from our usual format of handing out awards to the week's books, and instead hand out awards to the weekend's events, with a smattering of books sprinkled in. Whoa damn, lightning storm here is NUTS. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This episode of the Awesomed by Comics Podcast is brought to you by a special new game. Not to give anything away, but you're going to want to listen to this show at 4:07 PM, while re-gripping a badminton racquet. Matt Fraction continues Keiron Gillen's streak of strong Thor showings, Jonathan Hickman's FF continues to bring the intrigue, Judd Winick's Justice League: Generation Lost has some great character moments, Ultimate Spidey showcases Bendis's talent for natural dialogue, while Avengers does the exact opposite, and Moon Knight gets some baaaaaaad news. Also, Aaron is attacked by a kitten. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This very ordinary episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by our new kitten, Bo. Anyone who's ever listened to our show ever should know what we spend a fair amount of time talking about this week. (Boy Bands.) In addition to everyone loving an amazingly creative The Unwritten, Aaron gushes spoilerlessly about Joe the Barbarian, Evie digs the new Power Man, a listener wants us to start reading New Mutants again, and nobody likes bad storytelling timing or whores. Or whores with bad storytelling timing. Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This very special episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast, featuring very special guest Chris Sims, is actually brought to you by some new developments at yet ANOTHER podcast. Thor has maybe one of the most successful weeks in the history of this show, with two amazing books out this week. There's some love for Welcome to Tranquility, Ultimate Mystery, the Batgirl/Supergirl teamup, Batman and Robin and some new comic-related video games, but bla bla bla LET'S TALK ABOUT THOR, BABY!! Tell us what you think on and if you like the show!
This Labor Day episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by trying not to labor very hard, and also the US Open. And speaking of laboring, Taskmaster #1 is awesome. Other accolades go out to One Month To Live, Last Family of Krypton, Secret Six and Black Cat, while things related to hell are burning out their welcome. Aaron is obsessed with a new video game, and Evie saw lots of half-naked Iggy Pop this weekend, which she forgot to directly mention on the actual show but now you know. Also, because we are dumb and forgot to link after we discussed them last week: here are webcomics and .
