The New York Times bestselling Ordinary People Change the World series welcomes the 21st and 22nd additions to the collection this fall: I AM ANNE FRANK and I AM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN. The inception for this series, now with more than 3.5 million copies in print, came from a personal place for Brad Meltzer: he wanted to give his own children heroes of character, kindness, and compassion – he did not want his children to emulate someone simply “famous for being famous” on social media. From his love of history, Brad knew there were better heroes for his children to look up to, and he decided to write about them. ABOUT THE AUTHOR Brad Meltzer is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Heroes for My Son, Heroes for My Daughter, a dozen suspense novels like The Escape Artist, and non-fiction books like The First Conspiracy. He is also the host of the History Channel television shows Brad Meltzer's Decoded and Brad Meltzer's Lost History (which he used to help find the missing 9/11 flag). He is the co-creator of Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum – and of course, the inspiration for Brad. He lives in Florida with his wife and their three children. ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR Christopher Eliopoulos began his illustration career at Marvel Comics, and has worked on thousands of comics, including Cosmic Commandos, Monster Mayhem, Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius, Pet Avengers, and Cow Boy, all of which he wrote and illustrated. The Yawns Are Coming!, Christopher’s first picture book as both author and illustrator, is on-sale now. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and their identical twin sons (when the boys are home from college). --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steve-richards/support

Today on C4 we talk about the origins of Throg (The Frog of Thunder) and the rest of the pets of the Marvel Universe. Also, you get to hear us talk like sad geriatric losers about the old days in Portland. Helena didn't know we were doing this when we started recording, and it ended up being really fun. Marvel's best pet superheroes unite to save the world from Thanos, dragons and spoiled little girls. It's significantly shorter than most episodes, but there's a reason for that that we explain a little in the episode itself, and it'll become clear in a few days.
It’s become a little April Fools tradition of ours to do a silly comic, but we learned that Lockjaw & the Pet Avengers (a 4-issue mini from 2009) is surprisingly faithful to the Marvel canon. MVP for best character goes to Frog Thor aka Throg and that doesn’t make you want to read this then I don’t want to know you.
Jesse Blaze Snider is our guest to talk about his latest book BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT. Jesse Blaze Snider and co-writer/producer Will Knox’s groundbreaking online comic book/music anthology will appear in print for the very first time this October from Image Comics. BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT features six epic illustrated stories set to the music of geek culture-inspired “Black Light District” EP, with art contributions from these stellar talents: Chris Burnham (NAMELESS, OFFICER DOWNE), Phil Hester (MYTHIC, Green Arrow), Jason Pearson (BODY BAGS, Legion of Superheroes), Andrea Tamme (Adventure Time), David Witt (The Growler Magazine), J.K. Woodward (Fallen Angel, Star Trek), Michael Spicer (MYTHIC, Sons of Anarchy), Erik Larsen (SAVAGE DRAGON), and Chris Eliopoulos (SAVAGE DRAGON, Pet Avengers). “This [project] is a love letter to comics, said Snider. “These are the most personal songs I’ve ever written—while they’re superhero metaphors, I think they’ll be personal to everybody, because they’re based in emotions I think everyone has felt.” In BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT, comics and music come together to tell six separate stories with one thing in common: everything is at stake. "Jesse gave us a melody and lyrics for inspiration, then just let us do what we do,” said Woodward. “It was not only one of my favorite creative experiences, but, in my opinion, my best sequential work produced to date.” Hester added: "Working on Madhattan with Jesse, Erik [Larsen], and Chris [Eliopoulos] was a joy.” "I can't think of a time I've worked harder or been more filled with the spirit of inspiration than working on this cover,” said Burnham. “I can comfortably look at this piece and know in my heart that PummelHorse was me at my all-time peak.” BLACK LIGHT DISTRICT: SIX ISSUES (ONE SHOT) hits comic book stores Wednesday, October 12th.
After a whole lotta DC chatter in the past episodes, our bear boys Justin and BillyZ leave their dens to make a House-of-Ideas call. Avengers vs. X-Men#s 0 and 1 are spotlighted and then they cover their past Marvel favorites. Stan and Jack FF, Spider-Man, Marvel Team-Up, Micronauts, Byrne and Claremont, What If?, Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers, Daredevil: Born Again, the outback-era X-Men - all this, plus one of them admits to loving Atlantis Attacks!
This weeks “massive edition” of The PKD Black Box starts off with Shawn having a conversation with MC Adam Warrock (aka Eugene Ahn) about his new album “The War For Infinity,” the “West Coast Avengers Mixtape,” hip-hop & geekdom and even rappers that can communicate with dolphins. Then Jason Wood from the 11 O' Clock Comics podcast stops by to talk about college life, Busta Rhymes, and everything you need to know about M.A.S.K. as he and Shawn go all nostaligic. Last, but definitely not least co-host Jon Carroll stops by as he and Shawn have a solid interview with talented creator Chris Eliopolous (Lockjaw & The Pet Avengers) as we discuss all-ages comics, the art of lettering, why having talent at times can be overrated, and the hard work that's necessary to make comics. Shout-outs to DJ Ruckus Roboticus, Cookiehead Jenkins & the Pontiac Fiero. Enjoy!
Harvey Award winner Bryan J.L. Glass joins us once again to show how he makes lightning strike with Thor: First Thunder #1! We also talk app stuff as Image United joins our ranks and make sure we have all our shots with Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers! We keep the magic rolling with Zatanna, go to Infinity (Gauntlet) and (Batman) Beyond, and try to see what's the story with Morning Glories.
Writer Chris Eliopoulos and editor Nate Cosby discuss the Pet Avengers in the latest Mighty Marvel Podcast.

Also, Bruce Wayne is not the effing Riddler. Note that Evie will be away for SXSW next week, so Aaron may or may not have special surprises planned in her absence. Stay tuned. We give our play by play of the con and have interviews with Dacre Stoker (Great Grand nephew of Bram Stoker), Ian Holt, Emma Vieceli, Sonia Leong and new hero Lava Roid. More interviews with Molly Crabapple, Greg Pak, Jonathan Hickman, "Alan Moore" and Jimmy Aquino 2 will be played in the following week or two! The guys give their opinions on awkward fans at the booth, how we get our guests and thank our booth helpers and guests. News from NYCC includes the new Hickman/Eaglesham Fantastic Four, a new Ultimate line from Marvel, more Batman titles, Pet Avengers and so much more. Also, a zombie Pride and Prejudice, Portland superhero and Harvey Comics at MoCCA! A special discount is given from the Vampire Cowboys Theater Company for their upcoming production of Soul Samurai. Jimmy will be attending on Wednesday, 2/18 and moderating a panel with the cast directly after. Use that discount code to attend that night! AND...a tease for our special last minute interview with good friend Michael Emerson ("Ben Linus" on Lost). Look for that show to be released in a day or two.
