NEWSMarvel's 'Ultimate Endgame' Blind Bags went from collectible to straight-up lottery ticketScott Snyder reveals Jonah Hex on the way:But now to have it be like a load bearing book at DC, or a book that generates excitement and money for them in a way that allows us more creative latitude on other books, the things that it's engendered for Next Level—I can't wait for you to see these books. I mean, all of them are really creator forward. They're real big swings, Lobo and Deathstroke. They're big over the top epic books. Batwoman, real, real great swing by Greg Rucka and Dani. Zatanna really levels Zatanna up. Firestorm and Shadow of the Bat. I mean, there are just so many good ones. There really are. Legion of Superheroes and Jonah Hex and there's just a ton coming that we can't wait for you to see. And they're all passion projects. And a lot of that is born out of you guys supporting things that are riskier, that are different, that hopefully feel yours. And it's the best time I've ever had in superhero comics. I'm so, so grateful to you guys and so proud of what we're able to do right now at DC. So first, let me start this end of year thing by just saying thank you.Our Top Books of the Week:Dave:Punisher: Red Band #4 (Ben Percy, Julius Ohta)Escape #5 (Rick Remender, Daniel Acuna)Coplan:Ultimate Endgame #1 (Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf)Lost Fantasy #6 (Curt Pires, Maxi Dallo)Standout KAPOW moment of the week:Coplan: Ultimate Endgame #1 (Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf)Dave: Ultimate Endgame #1 (Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf)TOP BOOKS FOR NEXT WEEKCoplan: Toxic Avenger Comics #6 (Matt Bors, Fred Harper)Dave: X-Men #23 (Jed MacKay, Tony Daniel)JUDGING BY THE COVER JR.Dave: The Amazing Spider-Man #19 (Sara Pichelli Variant)Coplan: Twilight Zone #3 (James Stokoe Main)Interview: Andrew Joustra - Tales of TMNT #4 (out Mar 18, 2026, FOC Feb 9th)Recently he wrote the theatrical animated short Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 - Lost in New Jersey for Paramount and is currently writing the Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic book series for IDW Publishing.Andrew has dwelled in the sewer for a while now, having been the script & recording coordinator for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and currently working as the script supervisor for its sequel.1. Andrew's comics debutAndrew, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #4 marks your comic-writing debut and kicks off a three-issue arc. What did it feel like to finally see your name on a TMNT comic page after working in animation for so long?2. Transition from screen to pageYou've worked as Script Coordinator and Script Manager on Mutant Mayhem and its sequel—what muscles did you have to retrain (or unlearn) when shifting from screenwriting to writing comics?3. Working with Louie JoyceCan you talk about collaborating with Louie Joyce on this arc? How did your scripts leave room for visual storytelling, especially with action and emotion?4. Fugitoid's debut in TalesThis arc introduces Fugitoid into the Tales of the TMNT universe. What made him the right character to bring into this specific corner of TMNT, and what excites you most about using him in this format?5. Anti-AI themes and “Chrome Alone 2”Andrew, you recently wrote the animated short Chrome Alone 2, which has a clear anti-AI message. Without getting into anything off-limits, how important is it for you to sneak big ideas and values into genre storytelling?6. Franchise stewardshipWhat's exciting about Tales of the TMNT specifically as a space for experimentation and tone shifts within the brand?7. Entry point for new readersFor readers who might be jumping into Tales of the TMNT for the first time, what do you think makes this arc—between your voice, Louie's art, and Fugitoid's arrival—a great onboarding point?8. Fun / silly closer: Last one: If the Turtles were brutally honest, which one would give the worst notes on your script—and why would it definitely be Michelangelo?

When subjects like rape, domestic violence, and bigotry make their way into the pages of American superhero comics, they don't just grab readers' attention—they make headlines. Today, we revisit some of the most controversial moments in superhero comics history. From the sexual assault of Barbara Gordon at the hands of the Joker, to Yellow Jacket physically abusing the Wasp, to the Punisher's brief and baffling transformation into a Black man, these moments forced fans and publishers alike to confront where the line should be drawn. We also discuss a crisis of consciousness with Captain America putting down his shield and becoming Nomad, only to later be fired by the government and replaced with John Walker We wrap things up by asking: Were these moments bold statements or just stunts for attention? How has the definition of “controversial” shifted over the years?

With the holidays coming up, things are a bit hectic, so we're making this formerly members-only discussion on vengeance in superhero stories available to everyone! Matthew and Riki dive deep into one of the most compelling ethical questions in superhero media: the role of vengeance as a motivator for heroes, villains, and anti-heroes. Joined by comic book expert Jessica Plummer, they explore how vengeance shapes character arcs and storytelling across various franchises. When is vengeance justified in superhero narratives, and how does this reflect our real-world understanding of justice? Set against the backdrop of the Healthcare CEO killing, we analyze examples ranging from The Punisher to Batman and Inigo Montoya, exploring how different characters confront the temptation of vengeance and what this reveals about their moral compass. The episode tackles the complex relationship between vengeance and justice, asking at what point pursuing vengeance becomes an obstacle to achieving true justice. Through examples like V for Vendetta and Fullmetal Alchemist, we explore how various stories navigate this delicate balance.Other key topics discussed include:How different franchises portray vengeance as a motivation for female versus male charactersThe role of collateral damage in vengeance narrativesWhen vengeance becomes a cycle of violence and how heroes break free from itThe contrast between enjoying vengeance in fiction versus supporting it in realityHow comedy and tone influence our acceptance of vengeful actionsThe evolution of vengeance narratives in modern superhero storiesThe relationship between power dynamics and our acceptance of vengeful actionsThe conversation concludes with each participant sharing their favorite and least favorite examples of vengeance in media, offering insights into what makes these narratives resonate or fail. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. In this classic April 2021 conversation, Independent Americans host Paul Rieckhoff sits down with actor Jon Bernthal for a raw, unfiltered look at America at a breaking point—through the eyes of a storyteller who has spent years playing warriors, cops and complicated men on the edge. They dig into service, violence, fatherhood, justice and what it really means to “have someone's back” when the cameras are off and the country is in crisis. Bernthal and Rieckhoff get real about the distance between Hollywood's image of war and the lived experience of veterans and military families, and why listening to people who have carried the weight is more urgent than ever. They talk about policing, accountability and communities that feel both over‑policed and abandoned—and how to hold two hard truths at once without hiding behind a party jersey. This episode is independent, unapologetically patriotic and fully bullshit‑free—two dads, both committed to service, wrestling with what we owe our kids, our neighbors and our country in the middle of a pandemic, political extremism and cultural chaos. Batman has an 85-year legacy filled with reinvention. What made now the right time to bring the Dark Knight into the Skybox Metal Universe, and why was he chosen as the first DC hero to headline this line?2. Metal Universe is known for its cutting-edge printing innovations — from etched foil to die-cuts and lenticular cards. Can you walk us through the technology that makes these cards stand out physically in-hand and how that translates to the Gotham aesthetic?3. Each Metal Universe line has its own visual identity, whether cosmic, heroic, or elemental. How did your team translate Batman's world — all shadow, grit, and neon — into the visual language of the brand?4. This set spans decades of Gotham history. What was the process for selecting which eras, storylines, and character designs to include, and how did you balance nostalgia with innovation?5. The set features signatures from legendary creators like Gail Simone and Marv Wolfman. What does it mean to have the actual architects of Gotham's mythology participate in this project, and how do their cards fit into the collector experience?6. How do you feel about people selling these on ebay?7. How do you pick out art?8. Your thoughts on the use of a.i. art?8. Can you tease any product on the way?9. (Fun one!) If you were designing your own “Grant Sandground” insert card for the set, what kind of foil finish or chase rarity would it have — and which Gotham character would you want to share a dual card with?
