Episode 85 - Murdock and Marvel: 2013 Part 2 It was a pretty monumental year in comics, in the opinion of your humble co-host. 2013 is probably the best year for new comics of the 21st century to date, with a ton of variety and quality. And people noticed! This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2013. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil v3 #20-32, Daredevil: End of Days #2-8, Daredevil: Dark Knights #1-5, Avengers #34, New Avengers #33-34, Secret Avengers #34-35, Uncanny Avengers #2, Dark Avengers #187-188, Winter Soldier #13, Deadpool #11, Indestructible Hulk #9-10, Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #1, What if? AVX #1-4 Writer: Mark Waid (#20-31) Waid and Samnee (#32) Pencils: Chris Samnee (#20-27 and #30-32), Javier Rodriguez (#28-29) Inks: Chris Samnee (#20-27 and #31-32), Alvaro Lopez (#28), Javier Rodriguez (#29-30) The year kicks off right where 2012 left off — Daredevil's been captured by a villain called Coyote, who has similar powers to the Spot and has literally separated Matt's head from his body. Still alive, Matt learns Coyote's been using his portals to smuggle weapons, drugs, and even people for cartels, with his main operation being human trafficking. Daredevil eventually escapes, shuts down Coyote's control machine, and discovers that the real Spot is another victim of all this. The story ends with both villains vanishing before Matt can find out who's behind it. Next, Superior Spider-Man (Otto Octavius in Peter Parker's body) shows up at Kirsten McDuffie's request, worried Matt's losing his grip. The two heroes clash briefly before teaming up to stop an upgraded (with Doc Ock tech) Stilt-Man. Afterward, Spider-Man tells Matt about Kirsten's concerns, leading Matt to reconnect with Foggy, who reveals he may have cancer. As Foggy's diagnosis — Ewing's Sarcoma — is confirmed, Matt continues investigating the group hunting him. Nelson & Murdock gets attacked, Kirsten breaks things off, and Matt's approached by a mysterious man in an orange jumpsuit offering to take him to his enemies. Turns out those enemies are led by Bullseye, who's still alive but kept on life support. He's been trying to recreate the accident that gave Daredevil his powers, creating a single enhanced warrior — Ikari — who nearly kills Matt in battle. The final showdown with Ikari and Lady Bullseye on Bullseye's behalf ends with a building collapsing and Bullseye drowning in radioactive material that leaves him blinded and badly burned. Next, Matt reconnects with his childhood bully Nate Hackett, now wrongfully accused due to former ties with the Sons of the Serpent. Matt helps him fight back in court, uncovering a Serpent plot and stopping a courthouse bombing in the process. Late in the year we also get a fun one-shot where Daredevil teams up with the Silver Surfer to stop an alien named Ru'ach, who pretends to seek asylum on Earth but is really out to destroy it. During the story, Daredevil does get to ride the surfboard. The year closes with The Jester inciting riots by doxxing jurors after a high-profile trial. Daredevil intervenes, only to discover the Sons of the Serpent are pulling the strings. With Foggy's help Matt traces their roots to the Darkhold, an ancient spell book, and travels to Kentucky to meet Darkhold expert Jack Russell — a.k.a. Werewolf by Night when Dr. Strange isn't able to provide much assistance. But before he can get answers, he's shot while trying to save two so-called “monsters” from an angry mob. Not complete, this story will continue as we move into 2014. The other big story that ran the first half of the year was called Daredevil End of Days. This 8-part limited series by some of my favorite Daredevil creators is absolutely amazing and deserves full attention from this week's spotlight. This Week's Spotlight: Daredevil End of Days #1 December 2012 “Part 1” through Daredevil End of Days #8 August 2013 “Part 8” Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway Sometimes comics are pretty awesome. Episode 83 - Murdock and Marvel: 2012 Part 2 2012 was a year when the big news in comics all happened outside of shops, with movie theaters and social media dominating the industry. This is part 2 of the podcast. that will feature the year in Daredevil, the Spotlight story and the Takeaway for 2012. The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil v3 #6-19, Daredevil: End of Days #1 Fantastic Four #600, New Avengers #19-24 and #30-31, Amazing Spider-Man #677, Punisher #7 and 10, Avengers #24, Avengers vs X-Men #1-4 and #7-9, Avenging Spider-Man #6, Hulk #50, AVX Vs #2, Daredevil Annual #1, Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #4, Secret Avengers #33 Writer: Mark Waid (#6-19) Pencils: Marcos Martin (#6), Paolo Rivera (#7 and #9-10), Kano (#8), Khoi Pham (#10.1 and 13), Marco Checchetto (#11), Chris Samnee (#12, #14-16, and #18-19), Mike Allred (#17) Inks: Marcos Martin (#6), Joe Rivera (#7 and #9-10), Kano (#8), Khoi Pham (#10.1), Marco Checchetto (#11), Chris Smanee (#12, #14-16 and #18-19), Tom Palmer (#13), Mike Allred (#17) 2012 Begins with the last couple books of the Omege Drive, MegaCrime Organizations and the Mutually Assured Destruction that allowed Daredevil and friends to get out of a sticky situation but also left a target on Daredevil's back. In February, we get an award winning 1-shot where after Matt Murdock attends a holiday party, he volunteers to take some blind kids on a ski trip. The bus ends up getting into a crash and Daredevil tries to lead the kids out of the cold – but it ends up being the kids that save Murdock and themselves. In March, we get a two-part story that starts in Amazing Spider-Man #677 called “The Devil and the Details”. In it, we see Peter Parker lamenting his recent breakup with Carlie Cooper, trying to be cool with Black Cat (which goes horrible) and then seeking out Matt Murdock & Daredevil when Black Cat is arrested. She says she's been frames for a break-in at Horizon Labs. After Black Cat breaks out of police custody, the three locate the inventor of stolen Holographic projector. He's been poisoned and has little time to live. Spider-Man rushes him to a hospital while Black Cat and Daredevil secure the projector from members of Black Spectre and basically removing them as a threat. As a “reward” for helping, Black Cat and Daredevil passionately kiss with Spider-Man looking on and saying one of the best lines ever “I think this is my super villain origin.” They go back to Matt's place but before anything happens – he's called away to the graveyard of his father where some weird things are going on. Specifically, that his and other graves have been emptied. This leads us into the next story that involves heading underground and a confrontation with Mole Man. Mole Man is stealing coffins to try to find the love of his life Lorna whom he loved as Dr Harvey Elder and wants to be with. Daredevil ultimately “saves” the body of Lorna (and some diamonds) and returns to the surface. Upon going home, he reads a note from Black Cat admitting she was hired to steal the Omega Drive from him – but doesn't and warns him to watch his back After a 10.1 book that acts as a lead-up, we get a 3-part crossover where Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the Punisher team up in order to protect the Omega Drive from the Megacrime organizations with each book getting part of the story titled “The Omega Effect.” This will be our spotlight story this week. Next, we get a 1-shot story showing Matt Murdock and Kirsten McDuffie on a date – which goes well until a Black Spectre agent threatens the pair about the Omega Dive. That leads to a giant battle in the middle of Time Square between himself (with the Omega Drive) and the 4 megacrime organizations while the events are broadcast throughout the city. The fight ends with a Black Spectre Agent securing the drive and leaving. Later, Daredevil kicks down the door of Avengers Mansion, where members of the New Avengers - Wolverine, Mockingbird, Spider-Man, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage - are changing out of Black Spectre uniforms and we learn the fight in Time Square was staged and the drive is destroyed. Turns out there are repercussions for losing Latveria a lot of laundered money and Daredevil is next abducted and being held at Castle Doom in Latveria by the Minister of Bank Chancellor Exchequer Beltran. After a failed escape attempt, Daredevil is eventually rescued by the Avengers but not before some nanobots are injected into Daredevil causing his senses to all but disappear. Back in America, Hank Pym shrinks to micro size and enters Murdock's brain to fight the nanobots with the guidance of Dr Strange. Despite some weird readings, Pym successfully destroy all the nanobots and Murdock's senses start to return. Later, Murdock returns to Nelson & Murdock law offices where he's confronted by Foggy Nelson saying he's found Matt's secret – showing him Jack Murdock's remains and boxing gloves in Matt's desk. A stunned Matt tries to tell Foggy he didn't rob his own father's grave, that he's been set up, but Foggy will hear none of it. Foggy tells Matt that they're through until Matt gets the help he needs. After a flashback story involving Stilt-man, we see Nelson and Murdock still at odds over the remains. Foggy's worries about Matt's mental state are increased because Matt calls him and says Milla Donovan is in apartment unaware of anything bad ever happening to her. Nelson agrees to go to the hospital where Milla was committed if Daredevil will look into a case involving a drug lord Hierra dying and an innocent nurse accused of murder. The year ends with Foggy telling Matt that he must have hallucinated Milla because he can see her inside her room at the hospital. Daredevil going after one of the drug lords bosses only to suspect Jardeim Salazar himself seemly falls down an elevator shaft trying to escape him. That leads to Daredevil dropping in on the only other Hierra's bosses as he tries to consolidate power – Anthony Tortino. Daredevil tries to warn the men about their common enemy, but things quickly turn south. Daredevil believes it's The Spot who's doing all this and jumps into a circular black portal after Tortino but is knocked out. He awakens to his hands being cuffed behind a post. Daredevil shouts in rage that Spot is a dead man, but the black hands that abducted him pick his detached head and the tormentor introduces himself as Coyote. This Week's Spotlight: Avenging Spider-Man #6 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 1”, Punisher vol 9 #10 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 2” and Daredevil vol 3 #11 June 2012 “The Omega Effect Part 3” Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway It is getting harder to separate comics from culture, to the detriment of the industry and its readers. Marvel just delayed Doomsday and Secret Wars by 7 months—but is that the full story? Eric breaks down why this delay feels like the beginning of something bigger, including a compelling theory from Colton Ogburn (ScreenCrush) that suggests we could be getting a third Avengers film—possibly Secret Avengers—before the saga's finale. Is Marvel slow-rolling the real Multiverse shake-up? Is a stronger middle chapter being built before Secret Wars? Let's talk about what's really going on with the Avengers timeline—and what this could mean for the MCU's future.

0:18 Michael WeaselboyDo you think we will ever see Nick Fury Jr. in the MCU??1:42 Mookie JohnsonDo you feel that Brie Larson has done a good job of portraying Carol Danvers in multiple time periods of her life (CM flashbacks, CM main time period, Endgame Start, Endgame end)? I feel that is a tremendous challenge to be given, especially since she shot the last 2 time periods first and with the least amout of time with the character.5:44 StevenWould you be in favor of a Marvel Studios produced animated series that is treated as canon, and fills in a time gap in the Infinity Saga, much the way Clone Wars does for the prequel trilogy? My pick would be Captain America and the Secret Avengers, picking up right after Black Widow in the timeline, and leading to Infinity War.12:02 LincIf you could choose 3 MCU sagas (e.g. iron man trilogy, Avengers quadrilogy, Thor trilogy, Guardians duology) to receive a (belated) Disney Gallery series, which would they be? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
0:46 LincDisney+ has a range of new content aimed at different audiences, with Marvel and Star Wars set up to appeal to the adventure, family action, genre, fantasy and science fiction loving audience. Or geek culture. So you think we might see more content created by Disney to speak to us? Could we see an Indiana Jones series? Is there other original content they could create, or extend upon from their existing intellectual property cache? As an aside, the Indy movies will never get to Disney at this stage, but what's the rights situation with the young Indy shows?7:49 Anthony LawreyWhat do you think about how outspoken Oscar Isaac is in regards to his roles? There's the “drama” with Disney and their influences in TRoS and then his comments about how horrible it was filming for X-Men Apocalypse.13:48 StevenWhat are your thoughts about what DC is doing with continuity in their movies? Joker is clearly meant to be separate, but what about The Batman (2021)? With all new actors for Alfred, Gordon, and Wayne, and Affleck done being Batman, what hope do they have in circling back and having the heroes team up again? Are there sections of DC fandom who are explaining it as the “Snyderverse” being totally retconned out (along with the first Suicide Squad)?21:18 Woo S KimWho do you put on your Marvel Comics Villain Rushmore, mine is Apocalypse, Thanos, Doctor Doom, and Ultron.22:32 Mookie JohnsonPiggybacking on you October Patrons choice episode, would a comic book series showing adventures of the Secret Avengers between Civil war and Infinity war be good fit?25:37 Alex KleinI know must of us have a rough idea of the difference between a producer and Executive producer but could you dive in more? Are they paid differently? I know EP can be a fluff title but I'm sure there are some nuances.32:56 StevenLet's say hypothetically Sony gets bought, and all Spider-Man rights revert to Marvel Studios. You are Disney, and you want to continue the outstanding success of Into the Spiderverse. You don't want to add to Feige's workload. Who do you entrust with making another animated Miles Morales film, Disney Animation or Pixar?34:06 Mookie JohnsonHow do director teams, like the Russo Brothers among others, divide the responsibilities? Also, do they each basically get half of what solo director would be paid for the same movie?37:01 StevenI'd love to know more about the terms; pre-production, production, and post-production, and the time table for starting production on a project (film or Disney + series) all the way to release. Often we talk about shooting beginning roughly a year before release, but I'd like to know more about what all needs to get done from the start of shooting to release. How early can a film conceivably make it to release if it starts shooting, say, February 1st, 2020? As a follow up, how could this differ for a Disney + series? If Loki starts shooting late January, what is the earliest that series COULD stream on Disney +? That is, assuming we didn't already know it was set for Spring 2021.56:26 Michael WeaselboyWho do you think would win in a lightsaber duel Luke from Return of the Jedi or Kylo Ren from The Force Awakens???57:09 Woo S KimAs I am writing this question, it is the decade anniversary of the iPad, what did you think of the device in 2010, were you interested in getting one at any time, and do you have an iPad currently?58:04 Jim Scroggs What are some of your favorite memories of Kobe Bryant?1:02:53 StevenThere seems to be some misinformation spreading about Spider-Man rights and the SUMC: is it actually possible for Sony to sell the rights to Spider-Man to another studio besides Disney? I've seen people say that Sony could just sell those rights to Apple first, then sell the studio to Apple separately, preventing the rights from reverting to Disney. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
0:20 Rober ReinekeWith all the news about Disney+ and the MCU shows there, is there a potential downside to locking everything behind the paywall of streaming services? Is there still any value to having a tv series out there, free to everyone, on network tv? There's certainly a lot of conversation going on about Crisis on Infinite Earths on the CW, so is there a vacuum out there created by the rush to streaming?8:45 Kerry Vanderberg Can you explain who is on the Marvel Studios Parliament? To my ears, that's a new term you've been using lately. How is this different from the Creative Committee before the "split" between Feige and Perlmutter? Have people like Nate Moore and Trinh Tran been at Marvel Studios the whole time since IRON MAN, or did they come on board more recently, and how did they rise up in the ranks so quickly? Also, whatever happened to Jeremy Latcham? Your expertise on Marvel Studios' leadership structure would be greatly appreciated here. Thanks!25:05 Kerry VanderbergWhenever the next Avengers team up happens, do you think there will be any indicators that various members of the Avengers have been in regular communication together (i.e. T'Challa staying in contact with Dr. Strange, Falcon, or Rhodey), or do you think it will be some kind of inciting incident that will bring them back together, but it will basically be the first time they've interacted with each other since Tony's death?26:46 LincNow that Taika and Thor are so closely tied, is there another character, whether announced or just on the bench, who you think Kenneth Branagh would be suited to directing? Given Rothman's love for Shakespeare, I can't help but to think that something spidery might be relevant?28:51 LincThe rebooted Excalibur comics in Dawn of X goes into Arthurian mythology. Can we expect to see the MCU tell a mediaeval story, whether magical or grounded, in the next few phases?29:47 Anthony LawreyI know you said there wasn't anything you'd change with Endgame, do you still feel the same after seeing the newly deleted scenes on Disney+?31:00 Mookie JohnsonCould you see Disney+ doing series for the adventures of "The Secret Avengers" between Civil war and Infinity war and/or Cap's Mission to return the Infinity Stones. There are obviously alot of hurdles here including Chris Evans' willingness to reclaim the role. I sure would love to see it though.37:02 Mookie JohnsonI love the touch to make "A long long time" the song that Peggy and Steve dance to as Endgame ends. It fits the scene so perfectly and is yet one more great call back to MCU past.My question in hindsight is why was this the right song for Fury to be listening to as Cap entered his apartment in Winter Soldier?39:33 Zack KuhnWhat are the odds that the entirety of WandaVision takes place when Wanda is destroying the mind stone? Her and Vision live out an entire life as she's trying to save him/keep the stone from Thanos. Kinda brings a new meaning to her line in Endgame “you took everything from me”. Not totally sure how this would connect to Multiverse of Madness or why it would include the side characters that we've seen already, but it's gonna be a gloriously weird show!46:49 Matt Gilbert Why aren't Deadpool or the X-men movies on Disney+?51:59 Michael WeaselboyDo you think if Agents of Shield ran for an eighth season, would Feige integrate it into the MCU proper??? And have the characters show up in movies??53:43 Zack KuhnEven with the added movie dates, it seems every date has an occupant with none of them being anything related to my favorite marvel group, the X-men. Do you think 2024 is the earliest we can expect an X-men related film to drop? See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Sean answers your Marvel questions!0:34 Alex WardHey Sean! Happy Fox acquisition day! I may be remembering wrong, but did Disney immediately announce more films when they purchased Lucasfilm? If so, do you think that may be why so many fans are expecting an announcement from Marvel about an X-Men or FF movie's sooner than it'll actually happen? Also, if they did immediately announce new Star Wars films, how was that situation different from this one? Just that Star Wars films were a given? Thanks Sean!7:25 Robert KlauserMaybe the Gunn “leave of absence” could be a silver lining considering James Gunn had interest in characters previously owned by Fox in the past. What are your thoughts that there could be some rewrites for the GotG Vol 3 script to include said characters?10:03 Tom DeMicheleHey Sean and Patrons! I've been re-listening to all the Empire Spoiler Podcasts with MCU directors and creators. In the Civil War episode, the Russo's said they explored many options for the turning point of the airport fight before deciding on Giant-Man. What do you think were their previous options for swinging the fight in Team Cap's favor?12:12 Nick DiTotaHey Sean, I've been a part of the Patreon for about 3 months now and I just want to say that I think it's awesome! I love being able to listen every day while I'm at work. Over the past couple years I've gotten big into reading comics. I've never read any comics about the Eternals and with Marvel making an Eternals movie I'd like to read some to get to know the characters a little more. Do you have any recommendations as to a particular series to read? I figured to get to know them best go right to the source with Kirby's original series but I wanted your opinion. Keep up the awesome work and thanks for everything you do!14:00 Jeremy WatsonAt the end of Iron Man, when Fury is telling Stark that he's become part of a bigger world, we now know that he was referring to Captain Marvel. At that time (2008), do you think that Kevin Feige was referring to her or just the Marvel Universe in general? Thanks15:41 Derek BeebeHey Sean, I know you've talked about them doing Hickman's Secret War as an Avengers movie, but what I really want to see is what leads up to that story, Time Runs Out. Our heroes struggling in vain against an impossible, universe ending threat, driven to increasingly immoral desperation. I think this would make a great trilogy of Avengers movies, but how dark do you think our heroes could get in a major blockbuster? And if they did Secret War, how much time do you think they'll spend with Battleworld? Personally I thought that was the least interesting aspect of the series by far. And of course, this entire story requires Doom to be in the MCU.19:37 Derek BeebeDo you regret we didn't get a "Secret Avengers" movie between Civil War and Infinity War, showing what life was like for Cap's team living in exile in Wakanda? I think that would have been a great story. And if we did have that movie, do you think they should have avoided putting Tony and Steve together?22:10 Derek BeebeDo you think we need a Captain Marvel 2 taking place before Miss Marvel in order to properly establish Carol as a modern day hero for Kamala Kahn to look up to?23:50 Derek BeebeWhat do you think the line up for Avengers 5 will be? I'm assuming that none of the original team will be around, though I hope that's not true. Captain Marvel will be team leader of course. I'm thinking Black Panther, Ant-Man, Wasp, Doctor Strange... maybe Shang Chi and Sersi? And do you think a line up like that would be as popular as the original?29:00 Chris FHey Sean! Happy merger day! Was really great to break the news on the discord about the trailer release. I actually had a moment where I was like I wonder if this is what Sean feels like when he's breaking marvel news for us!Also thanks for sharing your idea of a “meditation period” before marvel films. I finally had a chance to try it with captain marvel and it worked great. So my question for the week is since time travel seems to be a factor in endgame is their any particular scene from any past films you would like to see them go back to and change a bit?I for one would love to see the scene of Thor and Loki on the rocks in Germany where Thor knows Loki is dead in the future and it's a bit more emotional. Thanks again for creating this great community!30:50 AlexHappy Closing day Sean! May I ask do you forsee the MCU X-Men and Fantastic Four films having the 20th Centuary Fox logo are does that become null and void once Marvel is making the movies and not Fox?32:10 AlexDo you think anything will in the world of Marvel superheroes world will be as historic as the X-Men and Fantastic Four coming back home back to Marvel Studios or is it as good as it gets? I have a hard time imagining even Marvel eventually gaining the full rights to Spider-Man will be as huge as this considering Marvel already has used Spidey in the MCU before now.33:54 AlexYou've lamented before on the quality of Entertainment journalism in regards to reporting things that are Marvel related but do you worry it can be greatly exacerbated after the deal closes? I see a future of a lot of unsubstantiated rumors about Mutants and Fantastic Four emerging more than ever before.35:03 Michael WeaselboyHey Sean its amazing to realize that now the MCU can be fully complete. I was wondering do you think we will have Masters of Evil sometime in the MCU as the next Avengers villains?? Do you think Doctor Doom could be the leader?? What other members would you add??37:18 AlexDo you think Marvel gets the rights to Fantastic Four might soften your stance on Fan4stic once you re-watch the movie again at some point(assuming you ever do?)39:14 AlexSean, have you seen Bumblebee yet? What do you think about it? And if you have seen it and liked it then do you now agree that Travis Knight would be a suitable choice to helm FF? I know you have Dee Rees as your top choice to direct Fantastic Four but I think Knight would a fantastic job( dumb pun intended) with the First Family. 39:54 Brett HeierHey Sean, did you like the all female ghostbusters movie? I loved it and I am very sad there won't be a sequel. Also, did you like Captain Phasma as a character? Do you think we will see her again in the Star Wars Universe? Sorry these questions weren't very centered around the MCU.41:13 Brett HeierHow many more years do you think Scarlet Witch will be in the MCU?41:58 AlexSean, do you think the Deadpool moves become retroactively canon in the MCU when Wade Wilson enters the MCU or do you think its unlikely? Would you rather keep Deadpool in his own universe separate form the MCU or are you of the mindset that he can be integrated into the MCU with little problems.44:54 AlexDo you have any strong picks for Doctor Doom?45:37 Jeremy WatsonSean, in the spirit of March Madness, who would your top 4 seeds be out of the major MCU players? Thanks!47:59 Jessica LoutfiHey Sean. Given that the Russo brothers are famous for adding things into their trailers that aren't in the movies...what do you think they added to the new trailer that may not be in Avengers Endgame? Thanks!49:30 Woo S! KimI happen to think Inhumans and Daredevil are the most underrated creations of Stan Lee's iconic career, do you concur, if you don't what do you think is his most underrated creation or creations, Sean?51:14 Woo S! KimIronically enough Sean, there is going to be a lot of What If Questions involving the “What If” Disney Plus animated series so please forgive the puns. Now let's say for argument sake Disney wanted to do a “What If” episode or episodes that involve Tom Holland's Spider-Man can Marvel Studios/Disney do this or is Tom Holland's Spider-Man technically with Sony Pictures? Related to Spider-Man do you feel that this “What If” Animated Series is Marvel Studios way of metaphorically dipping their toe into the pool of animation if they get the rights back to Spider-Man in the next two years or perhaps Marvel Studios wanting to release other Marvel characters in animated films released in cinemas that have nothing to so with Spider-Man, could this be the case why or why not?54:29 Woo S! KimIf you ever had the chance to interview Stan Lee did you have any questions you always wanted to ask him, me personally I would just spent the time thanking him for creating Daredevil.55:36 Matt MillerDo you think with the merger closing today thay Marvel studios will rearrange some of their plans and get the FF and X-men movies out before ones currently being planned/ones that are rumored?59:26 David RosenWith all the new properties coming over, and all the likely reboots that are going to happen, how do you foresee Marvel Studios adhering to their “no more origin stories” rule? While we will need some explanation, what do you think the amount of origin we'll get for the characters coming over from Fox? With the Fantastic Four and their fairly well-known origin specifically in mind, do you think it's possible to do something similar like they did with Spiderman, or will they need the classic origin story treatment to get them started? As the MCU continues to grow beyond End Game, and with all the new characters that will be introduced, what is the correct balance the MCU needs to strike in telling new characters' origins so that audiences don't start to get bored and look past the first films for all the upcoming characters?1:01:54 David RosenI know I thought this after the End Game super bowl spot, and I honestly cant remember if I, or some else asking about it then, but considering that the most recent trailer included flashbacks in black and white with the red highlights again, do you think there is more going on here than it just being a stylistic choice?1:03:27 David RosenOne of the reasons that I felt Captain Marvel was so different and refreshing from the rest of the MCU was the lack of an obvious love interest. Why is it that having a love interest has become such a staple of storytelling in the superhero genre? Was it a product of the times that these stories were being written in that the male hero had to have a woman to save and/or fall in love with? Do you think moving forward, Marvel should leave the obligatory, one-off love story behind in favor of other ways of developing characters or will it always be one of those story aspects that we'll just need to deal with sometimes because love is just a part of life?1:08:27 David RosenIn the discussion about whether Captain Marvel is too powerful in the MCU, regardless of whether or not we actually get to see this tested in a movie, if you consider that Wanda is able to use her energy to destroy the Mind Stone, do you think Captain Marvel could be defeated by a Hydra weapon, as they both draw their power from the Tesseract?1:10:38 Paul ShearmanHey Sean and everyone, hope you're all having a good week so far. Sean, pop quiz time! A quick question following your Captain Marvel conversations about the use of Nirvana when Carol went up against the Supreme intelligence (although I agree totally with you that it gets a pass because it's a terrific song!). Because I'm a weird completist about these things (!) I'm interested to know what alternative song you'd use, that fits with the ‘pre-1989 Carol leaving Earth' chronology and therefore not necessarily being aware of that song!In the grand scheme of things, this of course didn't ruin my enjoyment of the movie in any way, but I love to dot the i's and cross the t's..!Thanks as always, and enjoy the rest of your week.1:13:47 Jeremy WatsonSean, with the Fox/Disney acquisition complete, do you foresee any changes to some of Fox's tv content, such as The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc?1:17:11 Robert ReinekeHi Sean. There's some speculation that the latest Endgame trailer includes fake scenes and images that were deliberately altered from what will appear in the actual movie, ala Hulk in Wakanda. Now, I realize that no trailer is the actual movie, with trailers often featuring temp music, scenes and line readings that may end up on the editing floor, incomplete special effects, etc. Not to mention the fact that editing a 2 to 3 hour movie into a 2 minute spot is a deliberate act of distortion, all sizzle, all the time, albeit usually not on the level of trying to make The Shining look like a feel good family film or Christopher Robin look like a horror film. But, I feel that most trailers aren't trying to deliberately lie to me. Is a line being crossed here? I know Jean Luc Godard said that "Cinema is truth at 24 frames per second." and Brian DePalma retorted "Cinema is lies at 24 frames per second." and I'm much more in the DePalma camp, but I feel that I never like to be deliberately lied to. Yeah, I expect it won't ruin my enjoyment of the film any, but we have to hold the creators we like to the same standards we hold those we don't like. Did showing the Hulk in Wakanda ad one cent to the box office? I don't think so. Plus, I also feel that it's unnecessary in a film where you have 3 hours of footage and over 20 films to draw footage from, and a few seconds can't be that important. And I feel that this is a trend that ought to be nipped in the bud before it gets out of control, like digitally inserting Avengers into trailers for Eternals. Do you devalue the trailer by making them wholly unreliable? What do you think of the ethics of lying in trailers beyond "caveat emptor"?1:23:49 Angel L AshbyHey there Sean! Do you think that Disney/MCU set the timeline for the Disney/Fox deal so that it would be finalized before Endgame came out and do you believe that there will be a teaser for FF or Xmen in Endgame? Or do you think that Endgame will.. end.. in such a way that it sets up for X-men to be a new introduction in to the universe? (I hope that made sense.)
