It's time to take our first trip to Marvel's 2099 universe and meet Miguel O'Hara aka Spider-Man 2099. He's ruder than OG Spider-Man and he has a drug addiction problem to boot (technically not his fault). We read the first 6 issues of this series from 1992 before continuing our Korvac Saga long read with Avengers 174. Korvac actually shows up! And he explodes Benicio del Toro!!! Next Time: Slayground by Richard Stark adapted by Darwyn Cooke

First published in 1977, this anthology series explores what might have happened had key moments in Marvel continuity happened a little differently: What if Bullseye Had Not Killed Elektra? What if the Original Marvel Bullpen Became the Fantastic Four? What if the Avengers Had Become Pawns of Korvac? And what if a host of Marvel creators were let loose to create an issue full of rapid-fire dad jokes? Can this quartet of issues ascend to that not-so-sacred timeline known as ... The Comics Canon? In This Episode! “It's a shame you're not in this alternate reality where your girlfriend lives!” What If Dr. Fredric Wertham Became Doctor Doom? “This bar has everything!” What If #43: What If Conan Were Stranded in the 20th Century? Jace and Jay talk spoiler-free about some of the comics hitting shops the week of July 14, 2021. Bunny Mask #2 is the first book Jay read and it gives us plenty of momentum for the story as Bunny Mask shows up to haunt some people form her past, but those people have no answers to what or who Bunny mask is. We the readers are in the dark as well, plenty of events and character interaction, but what does it all mean? I guess we need to stay with the series to find out. Beyond the Breach #1 similarly drops us right in the middle of he action as a young woman and boy are thrown into the middle of an apparent other-worldly invasion by monstrous bugs. Action-packed from start to finish, we definitely have more questions that answers so we will be back for #2 to learn more. Sinister War #1 is an over-sized start to the series and once again Spider-Man finds himself overwhelmed by the events and villains in his life. It seems like this series is a way for writer Nick Spencer to try and tie up as many threads from his long run on Amazing Spider-Man and we may be going even further back to pull at a long established thread. Is Marvel going to undo the controversial One More Day storyline? Iron Man #10 sees Tony Stark return in a big way as he is stranded on a far off alien world, but is this where he is meant to be? Can he abandoned his mission to stop Korvac? Maybe this world is perfectly suited to help his desire to get back to basics and remember who Tony stark truly is. Silver Coin is a futuristic story that establishes an intriguing world in very few pages. we continue to think these stories tie together in more ways then it first appears and we hope that mean we can revisit this particular world again. A Man Among Ye #5 is the return of female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read. We love the voice that writer Stephanie Phillips gives us as well as the interaction between all the strong female characters in this book. New artist Josh George is more than up to the task of giving us dynamic art also, great issue. Alien Aftermath is Marvel's second title set in the franchise of the Xenomorphs and it ties in very closely with the events and characters of the Aliens movie. tons of cool action & a new version of the Xenomorph makes this issue a fun read. Spider-Woman #13 is a great example of the balance between humor and action that Karla Pacheco is pulling off in this title. Jessica Drew has never been in better hands. Way of X and X-Corp are both great this week as we get a couple of set up issues that have ending that lead us to believe we have big action coming in the August issues of both books.

Korvac, a cyborg from the 31st century, arrives in modern times with the Power Cosmic in hand. What unfolds is one of the most daring, innovative comic book stories ever told. Wes and Eric Breen break down what makes AVENGERS: THE KORVAC SAGA truly special in the annals of comic book history. Jace takes a look at some of the titles hitting stands this week. Marvel #6 has an incredible story from Lee Bermejo about the Silver Surfer which has breathtaking art. Radiant Black's second issue brings even more character development for our hero Nathan as he starts to learn how to use his powers while at the same time takes the first steps towards finding out where they might come from. Red Atlantis #5 ends that AfterShock series & the story leaves us wanting more with these characters & ideas. Iron Man #7 is fantastic as Tony Stark & his eclectic groups of heroes try to chase down Korvac before he can reach Galactus's ship. Captain Marvel & Spider-Woman both continue to showcases two of the most interesting and relatable characters of the Marvel universe. Although Carol Danvers & Jessica Drew are not without their flaws, the fact that they overcome those and still are heroes makes them that much more amazing. All this, plus Jace gives a rundown on some other titles you might want to be on the lookout for.
News: Infinite Destinies, Shang-Chi ongoing, Korvac in Captain Marvel 2This week, we get one of the most realistic issues of Marvel Team-Up yet, as John Belushi gets loaded up on pills and tries to fight the Silver Samurai.
Jace, Manny and Jay talk about some of the titles hitting stands the week of February 17, 2021. Stillwater #6 ratchets up the action all the way as the first arc comes to a close. The Last Ronin #2 picks up where #1 left off, but the guys wonder how much the long delay between issues hurt the series. Future State Catwoman #2 ends one of the best titles DC has put out during this peek into the future so you should give it a look. Savage is indicative of that kinds of books Valiant is putting out and the guys can't help but feel a little let down over the quality of what was once a top publisher. Shadow Doctor #1 is another incredible debut from AfterShock and Declan Shalvey's take on the Immortal Hulk in Flatline #1 should not be missed. Spider-Woman continues to impress from writer Karla Pacheco and may go down as the definitive run for Jessica Drew. We end of with three books of the week this time, Haha #2 from Manny, Jay gives his nod to Black Widow #5 which finishes off the first arc of Kelly Thompson's run that has humanizes Natasha and Jace gives his nod to Iron Man #6 as Tony Stark reaches his breaking point and is about to show Korvac he shouldn't have messed with Stark! We also give a rundown of some other titles you may want to be on the lookout for!
Jace and Manny talk about a bunch of books coming out the first week of 2021. There are so many great books this week, we couldn't even narrow down the book of the week to one or two, we had to pick 3! Crossover #3, Spider-Woman #8 and Generations Shattered #1 are all must-reads. We also give some thoughts on the end of Death Metal and how it will affect the DC Universe going forward. Manny talks about the next big thing from Star Wars with High Republic #1. We get an interesting start to a post-apocalyptic boy scout story in Scout's Honor #1 from AfterShock. The team is assembled in Iron Man #5 but will it be enough to stop Korvac? Nick Spencer gives us his best issue of Amazing Spider-Man since he started on the book. Modok from Jordan Blum & Patton Oswalt is just plain fun and the Juggernaut continues to surprise us in his series. Listen in for all the spoiler-free talk on this weeks books. Plus Jace gives a run down on some other titles you might want to be on the lookout for.

It's the end of the Korvac Saga and...spoiler alert...EVERYBODY DIES!
Hawkeye's back! That's good, because the other Avengers keep disappearing. But it's bad, because he causes them to lose their government privileges. Meanwhile, we learn that Carina is the Collector's daughter. And the team almost learns about Korvac, but he incinerates the Collector instead. OH NO!
The Korvac Saga continues...very very slowly. Henry Peter Gyrich tells the team that their security sucks. Starhawk and Korvac battle across multiple planes of existence while standing in his den. And then we get a fill-in issue about a guy who wants the Avengers to kill him, but makes it really complicated.
First, let's talk about an Avengers Annual that the Avengers barely appeared in where Adam Warlock and Captain Marvel fought Thanos until he went away. We'll stick to outer space to have our team meet the original Guardians of the Galaxy while back on Earth, the Wasp hosts a fashion show interrupted by the Porcupine with an appearance by Korvac...

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by Comics Alliance, no matter which member of their team is joining is. This week, Chris Sims sits in for Laura Hudson, who was feeling under the weather and couldn't sit in for Evie, who is in Austin, sitting in her hotel room writing a zillion articles about SXSW. Lots of sitting in, is what I'm getting at. Also, you may notice the audio quality is a little less than usual - I accidentally encoded the final mix at a lower frequency than we usually use, and I didn't save the session, so I would have had to recreate it from the raw files and IT'S NOT THAT BAD JUST DEAL. The Unwritten gets subtextually Biblical, Knight and Squire get whimsically serious, and Archie and the gang (which this week includes Spidey, Korvac, Santanna, Dueling Cyclops/Hope relationships, a plastic dart-shooting hammer and Joey's Rattata) are celebrated. Also Sims gives an award to a book that won a different award last week. I WONDER WHICH ONE THAT COULD BE?!?! As always, leave your comments or picks on and if you like the show !
