When Mohammad was 12 years old, he saw an Israeli soldier aiming at him. Seconds later, he shot Mohammad in the leg during the Great March of Return. The bullet severed the main nerve in Mohammad's leg. For months, Israel denied Mohammad his right to leave Gaza for urgent medical treatment. By the time he finally received care, it was too late. At 18, Mohammad was forced to make the brutal decision to amputate his own leg. In this episode of This is Palestine, we shed light on the documentary Severed, which follows Mohammad and his mother's life in Egypt after evacuating to continue his medical treatment during Israel's genocide in Gaza. We speak with Mohammad, the protagonist and co-producer of Severed, and with filmmaker and producer Jen Marlowe. Together, they explore what it means to survive injury, to be cut off from home, to carry the responsibility of telling the story of those still trapped in Gaza, and why Palestine must also be understood as a disability justice issue. Crozier — the man prosecutors said supplied fentanyl through housekeeper Carmen Lauber — has signed a sworn affidavit saying the pills were OxyContin, not fentanyl. He says he was detoxing and disoriented during his 2023 police interview. The pills were never recovered. Never tested. The state dropped drug distribution charges after that affidavit, and Faddis explains why that creates a gap in the murder weapon theory the prosecution may struggle to close.He walks through the witness intimidation allegations against the lead detective, the strategic impact of losing both expert witnesses, and how the defense can exploit the severed financial charges to keep the jury narrowly focused. In this episode of Occupied Thoughts, 2025 FMEP Fellow Hilary Rantisi speaks with filmmaker and activist Jen Marlowe about the film Severed, which Jen directed. The film, released in late 2025, tells the story of Mohamad Saleh, a teenager from Gaza who has endured five major Israeli assaults, lost his home, close family members, his best friends, and—at the age of 12—his leg. Hilary and Jen discuss disablement, disability justice, and Gaza, which now has the largest cohort of child amputees in the world.  Jen Marlowe is the founder of Donkeysaddle Projects and a Consulting Producer for Just Vision. She is an independent filmmaker, journalist, author, playwright and human rights activist. Her books include I Am Troy Davis (Haymarket Books, 2013), The Hour of Sunlight (2011, Bold Type Books) and Darfur Diaries: Stories of Survival (2006, Bold Type Books). Her films include Severed, There Is A Field, and Remembering the Gaza War. Hilary Rantisi grew up in Palestine and has been involved with education and advocacy on the Middle East since her move to the US. She was a 2025 Fellow at FMEP and was most recently the Associate Director of the Religion, Conflict and Peace Initiative (RCPI) and co-instructor of Learning in Context: Narratives of Displacement and Belonging in Israel/Palestine at Harvard Divinity School. She has over two decades of experience in institution building at Harvard, having been the Director of the Middle East Initiative (MEI) at Harvard Kennedy School of Government prior to her current role. She has a BA in Political Science/International Studies from Aurora University and a master's degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago. Before moving to the US, Hilary worked at Birzeit University and at the Jerusalem-based Sabeel Ecumenical Liberation Theology Center. Major developments in the Kouri Richins case as Judge Richard Mrazik issues critical pre-trial rulings just weeks before jury selection begins. Kouri Richins, the Utah mother and real estate agent charged with aggravated murder in the 2022 fentanyl death of her husband Eric Richins, will now face a narrower trial than prosecutors intended. The judge ruled this week that financial crime charges — including insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, and forgery — will be tried separately, meaning the jury deciding the murder case won't hear those allegations. A domestic violence expert has been barred from testifying after defense attorneys argued there's no evidence of abuse in twelve terabytes of discovery. Former FBI behavioral analyst Molly Amman can only testify in limited rebuttal capacity and cannot suggest Kouri fits a killer profile. However, handwriting expert Matt Throckmorton will testify that Eric's signature on insurance documents was allegedly forged. The controversial orange notebook — allegedly containing Kouri's own account of the night Eric died — may be admitted if prosecutors meet evidentiary requirements. Prosecutors allege Kouri first tried to poison Eric with a fentanyl-laced sandwich on Valentine's Day 2022, then succeeded seventeen days later with a Moscow Mule. The defense has challenged the state's evidence, noting a key witness recanted his statement about selling fentanyl. Kouri Richins has pleaded not guilty and maintains her innocence. In this episode, we look at how God severed the Israelites from other nations and the idols of those nations. He does the same for His people today. Sometimes He severs us from other people that we're around. He does this when a relationship or friendship is holding us back from going deeper with Him. We look at how this happens and what role we have to play in the process of the severing. We also look at the call the Lord has given us to be holy because He is holy. He severs us so that we can be a people set apart specifically for Him who live holy lives that honor and glorify Him. As we enter this next year we need the Lord to sever from us what we shouldn't bring with us and allow Him to free us!

As he's feeding his face, Helena Eagan walks in. She has a seat at a booth...all alone. Helena may have had plans other than dinner when she followed Mark Scout into this place. She's quite the aggressive one!! Helena does her best to seduce a confused Mark Scout, but it doesn't work.The meeting at the restaurant prompts Mark to take some serious action regarding his chip.
