In the United States, according to Gallup, nearly 70% of employees are not engaged in their work. Disengagement negatively affects profitability and productivity. I believe there are 3 ways businesses can improve engagement. One, they inspire with a clear vision. Two, they practice open-book managem…

How do you handle an employee complaint about equipment, processes, policies, etc? Many organizations have a “suggestion box” program. But often times the ideas don’t go anywhere. What does this do to employee engagement? What if you had a defined process for creating change that could be initiated by anyone, even the newest employee, in such a way that ideas are properly vetted and and also properly rolled out to ensure success? Many employees just want to know they’re heard and their ideas are considered fairly. In addition, if they can be taught the right way to introduce organizational change, you’ve now given them a skill the can use in their jobs now, in the future, and in their world outside of work. Listen as Ari Weinzweig and I talk about the basics of Bottom Line Change. Tell me about how you introduce change at your organization in the comments in the comments at the blog. When Ron was interviewing with Zingerman’s he wanted to do more than just accounting. He wanted a place where he could make a difference. In addition, he wanted to respect his coworkers. He found that at the Zingerman’s community of businesses. This is part one with Ron Mauer, Managing Partner, Zingerman’s Service Network. The Service Network is a centralized business unit designed to facilitate business functions in a more streamlined version than each Zingerman’s company could possibly do on their own. How your organization interviews and recruits has a direct impact on your culture and also future engagement. Here are a few things that stood out to Ron while he interviewed with Zingerman’s: Paul and Ari were involved and knew their businesses deeply. They were around the business a lot. First a shout out to a listener…my mother, Connie. She listens sporadically to the show, but she tuned into my episodes with Scott and they really grabbed her attention. She was so excited what Scott is doing that she shared with her local family owned restaurant (I think they might be there everyday) the story of what Scott’s doing. They then got her into contact with their distributor who really caught on to Scott’s vision for creating work for those living with disabilities and they have now brought his wine into their area, a new market for Scott and 100% wine. So cool. Scott was one of my first guests that I asked what challenge the world could help him with and finding new markets was one of them. Who knew it would be my mom spurring that on! That’s why you put the challenge out there. Anyway, let’s listen to the full episode with Scott Monette, Founder of 100% Wine, a company dedicated to giving 100% of profits to organizations that are creating meaningful work for the 53 Million Americans living with disabilities. In addition, we’ll hear his thoughts on being a B Corporation. Be inspired that you can create a business that is driven by a strong calling or purpose.
