Later on, I learned from Jivya Somha Mashe, a Padma Shri award winning local artist who has done a lot of work for the Warli artfrom and presented it across the world. So I joined him. We had no money in those days, I couldn't afford to go to school. My parents were poor and I had to abandon the traditional Warli way of life to go work for a company outside, which was a very difficult decision for me to make. I depict some of those experiences in my paintings and in this way connect our communal life with my lived experiences. My paintings feature traditional motifs as well as new ones like the company, trains, planes, the city and pollution; this is how we have evolved the art form. We want to say that we are not against education or progress but given the world's present condition, humans need to understand the issues we are grappling with and seek out the right solutions. Shah and Mankekar review the basics of cholesteatoma: types, etiology, clinical presentation, and physical exam findings. Doctors should suspect cholesteatoma when they encounter a patient experiencing painless, malodorous ear drainage. Dr. Mankekar underscores the importance of tailoring the physical exam to each patient's history and needs. For example, when evaluating children for potential cholesteatoma, she works to gain the child's trust before examining the ear, sometimes using an initial visit to focus on rapport and deferring the exam to the second visit. Next, the surgeons address workup of cholesteatoma, which should include audiometry, CT scan, and culture of ear drainage (if present). All patients with cholesteatoma require long-term surveillance, as recurrence can happen more than five years after initial treatment. Dr. Shah advises that doctors approach the topic of surveillance by emphasizing the importance of creating a safe ear. Dr. Mankekar then shares tips on how to help patients understand the chronicity of their disease. Then, the surgeons discuss cholesteatoma operative techniques. Dr. Mankekar leads listeners through her approach to cholesteatoma surgery, from review of CT scans to supplies used in the OR. Dr. Shah delineates common challenges in ear surgery, such as “hard to reach areas”, and Dr. Mankekar shares technical strategies she uses in the OR. They then review the role of endoscopic tympanoplasty, ossicular chain reconstruction, and canal wall down mastoidectomy. As with her ear exam, Dr. Mankekar closely tailors each operation to the patient's particular pathology. This week, host Tanishka Sodhi is joined by Newslaundry's Shivnarayan Rajpurohit and Freelance award-winning journalist Srishti Jaswal. The discussion begins with Shiv's report on the surveys at the BBC offices. They talk about the reasons behind the survey and what could possibly come out of it. Shiv also talks about the experience on ground and the media coverage on the subject.The discussion then moves on to Srishti's story which is the first part of a large investigation done by an International organisation ‘Forbidden Stories', on Bangalore based journalist Gauri Lankesh's murder. They talk about the idea behind doing such an investigation and then goes on telling about the instances in the report that revolves around the murder of Gauri, including her 2012 video which has been linked to her case directly. Srishti explains that the video is a perfect example of how ‘Hindu Far-Right' functions in India, where Gauri Lankesh gave a speech on ‘Ethos of Hinduism' and a part of the speech was taken and uploaded on YouTube, with the title ‘Why I hate Secularism'. This portrayed her in a false manner and was shown to her assassins.The panel ends the discussion with the harassment faced by female journalists online.
