Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Upcoming changes to the EV US and EV UK leadership teams, published by Rob Gledhill on February 8, 2024 on The Effective Altruism Forum. I wanted to provide an update about the leadership teams of Effective Ventures Foundation USA, Inc. and Effective Ventures Foundation (UK). On EV UK's board, Tasha McCauley and Claire Zabel will be stepping down from their trustee roles within the coming weeks. Tasha has served on the EV UK board since 2021 and Claire since 2019, and both originally wanted to step down from these roles approximately a year ago. They decided to stay on to guide EV through a trying time, determine future plans for the organization, and finalize our trustee recruitment efforts. EV UK is extraordinarily grateful for the service that both of them have provided over their tenures, and especially in the months since FTX's collapse. To fill their vacancies, Eli Rose from the EV US board will be moving over to the EV UK board, and he will be joined by Johnstuart Winchell before the end of February. Johnstuart is the Founder and Lead of Good Impressions, an organization providing free advertising marketing to effective nonprofits[1]. Before starting Good Impressions, he worked at Google and Boston Consulting Group. To see an overview of all EV UK leadership, please visit this page on our website. On the EV US board, Nicole Ross will also be stepping down from her trustee role in the near future. She has served on the EV US board since 2022, and as with Tasha and Claire, originally wanted to step down earlier but has stayed on to help with the organization's governance until we could find new trustees, pass through some legal challenges, and set a course for EV's future. EV US is immensely thankful for everything that Nicole has given to the organization and the larger EA community during her term. She will remain at EV US in her capacity as the Head of Community Health at CEA. Anna Weldon joined the EV US board on February 1st. Anna is the Director of Internal Operations at Open Philanthropy, and she previously worked as Director of Human Resources at Buffalo Exchange, a US-based recycled clothing retailer. She's guided workplaces in the areas of manager development, change management, and organizational restructuring. An additional trustee will be joining the EV US board shortly, and we will make an announcement once their appointment has been confirmed. Finally, while Zach will be assuming the role of CEO of CEA, he will continue to serve as CEO of EV US. In this capacity, Zach will focus on leading CEA but retain his oversight responsibilities of EV US. I will continue to serve as EV UK CEO, and Zach and I will consult on what is in the best interests of both EV US and EV UK, and I will also be primarily responsible for the EV Ops team. To see an overview of all of EV US leadership, please visit this page on our website. ^ Some of Good Impressions' current clients include projects at EV US and EV UK. While the marketing services that Good Impressions provides are free of charge and therefore this relationship does not meet the bar of a legal Conflict of Interest, Johnstuart will be recused from any decisions that could conflict with his role as a service provider to EV's projects (e.g. during yearly budget approvals). Thanks for listening. To help us out with The Nonlinear Library or to learn more, please visit nonlinear.org
I'm thrilled to share some exciting insights from our latest podcast episode where I had the pleasure of hosting Thomas Ryan, the CEO and founder of Bigly Sales. We had an enlightening conversation about the transformative role of AI in sales and deal-making. Here's a quick rundown of what we discussed:AI: The Game-Changer in Business: Thomas believes that AI will revolutionize business more in the next five years than the internet has in the last 30. Imagine AI handling your emails, providing instant and accurate responses, or even replacing level one support for most companies by 2024!AI in Outbound Prospecting: We delved into the future of AI in voice calls, where AI can answer the phone and even clone voices. Despite some latency issues, this technology is expected to be available soon, potentially replacing customer service reps and appointment setters. The Dark Side of AI: We also touched on the potential misuse of AI, such as voice cloning for scams and misinformation. Thomas emphasized the importance of familiarizing ourselves with AI tools and being cautious of what we see and read.AI: The New Industrial Revolution: Thomas compared the impact of AI on the workforce and productivity to the industrial revolution. He believes that AI will lead to another renaissance for humanity, allowing us to work on more meaningful tasks and pursue our passions.AI in Sales and Scaling Businesses: We discussed how AI can revolutionize sales and scale businesses, automate and scale sales processes, and the importance of adhering to new rules and regulations regarding opt-ins and data privacy.I must admit, I'm both excited and nervous about the advancements in AI that Thomas and his team are working on. If you're as intrigued as I am and want to learn more, I encourage you to visit BiglySales.com. They have a live button that connects callers to a salesperson during business hours and an upcoming SDK for automation that promises to save time and money.I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Thomas for sharing his insights on AI and its applications. If you found this conversation as enlightening as I did, feel free to reach out to Thomas and express your gratitude. And remember, if you're a professional in the deal-making community and would like to share your expertise on the show, please fill out a form on TheDealScout.com.Next Steps Share your thoughts with a review - https://www.thedealscout.com/reviews/ Let's connect on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshuabrucewilson/ Subscribe and Watch on YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBQN_Y3nhDGClfMxCSBDjOg

This week's guests move almost no dirt. They don't do demolition. They don't deal in aggregates. And yet, folks in their line of work visit hundreds of job sites per year. Welcome Chris Moore (SVP of Internal Operations) and Preston Higgins (Project Manager) of GPRS (Ground Penetrating Radar Systems) to the podcast. Among other things, GPRS is a great example of your friendly neighborhood utility locator. And boy, did these guys pique Aaron's interest. If you've ever worked a job and had to communicate with someone coming out to do a locate, then you might know that this kind of work is often looked at as an annoyance... and yet, people still hit utility lines! This conversation was a great basic rundown of what that work looks like from their perspective, and if you're a fan of tech talk, then you'll really connect with these guys. This week on Dirt Talk, host Aaron Witt chats with Chris Moore and Preston Higgins about ground penetrating radar/utility locating, why they (and companies like GPRS) can sometimes get a bad rap, and why GPRS likes to focus on developing their team members into good people, first and foremost. Don't forget you can watch or listen to Dirt Talk on the BuildWitt app! You can learn more about it at buildwitt.com/buildwitt-app. If you have questions/comments/concerns, reach out to DirtTalk@buildwitt.com. Stay Dirty!

Snyder has helped accomplish a number of impressive feats during his six years at Illinois College. Some of those highlights include the construction of new homes for the IC baseball and softball programs plus a new throws area for the track & field teams, the addition of lights to England Stadium and the Bellatti Tennis Complex, a weight room renovation, a video board at England Stadium, the addition of the Chi Alpha Sigma fraternity to honor student-athletes with excellent academics, and the expansion of varsity sports to include esports and competitive cheer & dance. Under his watch, Illinois College has also seen upgrades to its playing surfaces, including a new court design in Sherman Gymnasium, new turf at England Stadium, and a resurfacing of the track in King Fieldhouse. The 2016-17 academic year was a particularly impressive one for the athletic programs of Illinois College. Success in competition carried over to the classroom, where IC student-athletes combined for a cumulative G.P.A. of higher than 3.00 for the year and 128 were named to the Academic All-MWC teams. Snyder also served on the "Gameday the DIII Way" working group in conjunction with the NCAA. The 2018-19 school year provided a massive upgrade to the Bruner Center and IC's athletic facilities. A total of $1.7 million was spent on capital projects including the installation of new turf at England Stadium, the construction of new weight rooms and a cardio room, renovations to locker rooms and branding on every level of the Bruner Center. The Illinois College programs set an institutional record by having 51 student-athletes earn All-MWC honors during the year. Prior to Illinois College, Snyder was at Oberlin College, a member of the North Coast Athletic Conference, located in Oberlin, Ohio. Snyder served in a variety of progressive leadership roles, most recently as Associate Director of Athletics for Internal Operations. Military Intelligence in Business with Katie Crotty Katie Crotty is Praescient Analytics’ Co-Founder and CEO. She oversees operations of a big data analytics firm dedicated to supporting intelligence, investigations, and counter-fraud cases for public and private sector clients. Katie is a combat veteran who was triple-hatted as the Brigade Fusion Officer-in-Charge, Tier One Special Mission Unit Liaison, and Brigade Strike Force S2 for what was at the time the most technologically advanced Stryker Brigade Combat Team in the United States Army. Katie’s story started at age 17 when her parents had to sign a waiver for her to join the military; she wanted to travel the world. Later, as a Military Intelligence Officer with the Army her team deployed down range for over a year as part of the surge. This experience helped shape her. “Really what the surge meant was a lot of commercial organizations ,what I like to call west coast tech firms that wanted their technology to be war torn. We were given a lot of capacity and very little time to train. The big key that I learned from that was when you put really smart dedicated people and combine them with amazingly sophisticated technology you can do some pretty amazing things.” – Katie Crotty This was Katie’s key take away from the military and the inspiration to start her own business. Katie Crotty – The Risk Transitioning out of the Army the basic thing Katie knew from a young age was intelligence. Katie did 35 interviews on the side of the road while driving across the states trying to find her skill set and how it could translate into the civilian sector. After dozens of interviews, Katie took a risk with a start-up company that didn’t have a job title and didn’t quite know how she fit in but the founder liked her. She became the Director of Internal Operations dealing with finances, recruiting, and building the foundation of a company. Katie then transitioned into Business Development dealing with IT, program management and how to build a business then ended as the Vice President of Consulting. Uniquely Positioned “I wanted to go back to the core idea I had in the military that if I could choose who I worked with on the left and the right and we could go and combine ourselves with really innovative technology, and I wanted to spin this small group of three people out and if we give a lot of nurture to it then we could really build it out-and that was the impetus of Praescient.” – Katie Crotty The team had the unique ability to take a collection of diversely talented people that all had entrepreneurial spirit and gained their trust to create Praescient Analytics. Big Data Analytics. Solving investigative problems. They needed to use a tool to get through the mass amount of data coming to them to make that educated guess as correct as possible. This is how Praescient Analytics assists their clients. Military Leadership in the Civilian Sector Over the years I learned that I had to change in order to adapt within a civilian construct. Patience and a good sense of humor keep her balanced. You can cut through a lot of cultural barriers between the military and civilian life by just bringing it down to what people want out of their job. People just want to have a worthy and important job. It’s about understanding people and good people know good people and that is how you scale. “At the end of the day what we try to create is an environment where you can transition out of the military into the civilian sector and still be a part of something that is changing the world on a day-to-day basis.”-Katie Crotty Don’t forget to leave us a 5-star rating and review if you enjoyed the show. We would love to hear from you!
