Turn Yourself into a Fantasy Monster
On this episode of Throwing Heat, Tony, Dan, and Ross the Boss had the distinct privilege of interviewing legendary hall of famer, St. Louis Cardinals' shortstop, Ozzie Smith. We get to hear about the earliest baseball days in Ozzie's path to the majors, as he shared the diamond at his high school with another hall of fame, Eddie Murray. Ozzie's draft day, his promotion to starting shortstop in spring training by baseball legend Alvin Dark, and the origin of his flips and handsprings as he used to take the field all shine a light on the class act that is Ozzie Smith. The Throwing Heat team is in full agreement with Ozzie about the changes in the game and what a loss it is — such as the fact that people don't even know how to bunt anymore. We consider together if the 85 Cardinals would small ball today's teams to death, as they try to hit home run after home run, striking out right and left and not bringing good efficiency to the game. We also get to hear about the meaning of the all star game back in Ozzie's day, which explains why the National League had such historic success. And, while Ozzie was kind enough to recount the biggest home run of his career in the NL championship series of 1985, we all agree that it is his slick fielding (which led to 13 Gold Gloves), flashy double plays, and team play that make Ozzie one of he all time greats.
In this episode Dan Ratner, Ross The Boss, and Kasey Shienvold will go over the Fantasy Football Basics 101. Here is what we go over: 1. What is Fantasy Football? 2. What are League Settings 3. The Draft 4. Managing The Season
Dan and Ross the Boss are joined by Miami Heat Forward and three time NBA champion, Udonis Haslem. We cover a wide range of topics, but get the inside scoop on what makes UD tick, how he came to be who he is, and all of his adaptive leadership skills that continue to build and drive the winning culture of the Miami Heat. You’ll get to hear about his experience in the bubble, including the mental component required to manage the situation well and thrive there — even dealing with the initial bad food they had to endure in the unprecedented time. Udonis and the Heat were one of the teams that thrived well and went all the way to the NBA Finals in 2020. He connected his time growing up in the tough neighborhood of Liberty City, Florida to a good amount of his tenacity, values, and mental toughness. The interview also covers his friendship with Dwyane Wade to this day and their business together in the Miami restaurant 800 Degrees (that’s pretty damn hot!). Udonis also has multiple businesses and definitely enjoyed Ross describing him as the Magic Johnson of the East. But Udonis was none too pleased with Dan’s Cavs’ Lebron shirt. Dan turned this to his advantage, though, and may end up scoring a Udonis jersey out of it, promising to wear the right things next time. We also discuss the latest in the NBA, hearing UD’s take on the Nets’ big three and how they compare to Lebron, Wade, and Bosh. He doesn’t get defensive, but he notes that the Heat were better at defense! We finish on hearing about his interactions with his three sons, who are athletes in three different sports, his longevity and the secret to it, and his toughest matchup in the NBA as a 6’8” undersized forward guarding 7 footers at times. It was a pleasure to have him on!
Ross and Dan interview Anthony Puccio, the head writer for The Association, and former beat writer for the Brooklyn Nets. Anthony has appeared on NBATV and CBS Sports and is in the know on all the latest happenings around the NBA. We talk about the top four teams in each conference, as well as their chances to win it all. But, as a Brooklyn fan, Anthony reveals he is rooting not only for the Nets, but also the on the rise New York Knicks. While the Nets have already made their big move in acquiring James Harden, will the Knicks make a move for Bradley Beal? They are one of the few teams that has the assets to do it. Come find out who Anthony thinks is another main team in the running if Washington is willing to move Beal. Some of the other storylines we hit on: The Utah Jazz are the best team in the league, but, as strange as it sounds, can they win the championship in such a superstar driven league? Does James Harden have the fire and head game to lead a team to the championship? The Phoenix Suns are one of the biggest surprises of the year, coming in third in Anthony’s rankings in the West, while the Celtics have to get a big man. The Cavs have 1 or 2 (or 3!) to give. The Clippers are slipping in the rankings according to Anthony, while Ross the Boss thinks they can still win it all. With Kawhi, anything is possible! We look forward to more conversations with this young basketball media mind. Come check out MFSN for more insights from us and we’ll let you know when Anthony returns to any of our shows!
It’s time for MFSN’s Week 11 waiver wire show, and we begin with a discussion of all the Drew Brees injury fallout. Is Jameis Winston and/or Taysom Hill worth a pickup at QB? Or maybe you can even use Hill at TE in your league! The running back carousel keeps spinning and we debate all the pickups, including the third-best RB of the last month, Wayne Gallman, and the latest name to know in Miami, Salvon Ahmed. At WR, we discuss all the young receivers who are on the verge of breaking out, and have the age-old debate of Marquez Valdes-Scantling vs. Allen Lazard. After running through our top streamers at tight end, defense, and kicker, we finish up with some big names of players to drop. Hit the play button and find out who made the cut!
Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), Andrew (@andrew_seifter) and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start with 1st and 10. The crew focuses on how to assess and improve your roster entering the final stretch. Strategies and advice are offered about addressing the waiver wire and making trades with other owners. When should you overpay for someone? How do you use the depth on your bench to improve your starters? How do you assess the value of your players and players on other teams? We help you answer all of these questions. Dan and the Boss are then joined by the talented and hysterical comedian, Larry the Cable Guy. Larry loves to talk about Nebraska Cornhusker Football! Find out how Larry lost his tooth and laugh with us as Larry shares some of his funnier jokes. The man knows A LOT about Cornhusker football and has strong opinions about college athletics. You won’t want to miss his interview. Because no one can live on fantasy sports alone, we provide our healthy dose of pop culture. Dan, Kasey, Ross and Lauren begin the process of paring down the Sweet Sixteen. We have two epic matchups. The crew discusses the amazingly fortunate draw that Magneto has had as he faces off against the powerful, but entirely metallic Voltron. The second matchup is much more competitive. Zeus, the God of Thunder, faces off against the villainous Wizard, Voldemort (Oh crap!! I said his name). Can a god be defeated by an evil wizard? You’ll have to listen to find out who wins this close call. Pop culture, debates, and intelligent humor drive so much of what makes this show different from other sports shows. It’s Week 10, and our MFSN team is here to guide you through all the top adds. At QB, did Tua Tagovailoa do enough last week to earn the top spot? It’s another busy week at RB, where Jordan Wilkins continues to gain ground on Jonathan Taylor and injuries continue to shake things up in Houston, Miami, LA, and New York. There’s once again no shortage of good pickups at WR, but how high did Jakobi Meyers’ Monday Night explosion vault him in our rankings? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered for streaming tight ends, kickers, and defenses, too. And last but certainly not least, you won’t want to miss which big-name players come up as we debate who to drop this week! Stay connected on our other social media platforms. Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), Andrew (@andrew_seifter) and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start with 1st and 10. The crew looks at stats and variables to consider when setting your weekly lineups. How important is it to look at individual matchups or team defense when selecting which WR, RB, TE, or QB to play? When do you factor in the weather? Find all this out and more. 1st and 10 shows you the decisions to make week to week to be the best fantasy player possible. Dan and the Boss are then joined by the talented and hysterical comedian, Gabriel Iglesias. Gabriel discusses his current shows on Netflix and Nickelodeon as well as shares his stories about life on the road as a stand up comedian. Also, Gabriel loves his dogs and, apparently, they get to sit wherever they want! On sports, Gabriel talks about his love for the Dodgers and his excitement about the World Series. Plus, find out how he came to be a Raiders fan. You won’t want to miss Gabriel. He kept us all laughing. In our latest installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, the Boss, and Lauren (@lkauerbach) take a look at some of the biggest games of the upcoming weekend as well as give the listener several underrated players who can help their fantasy teams. Our previous week’s picks were discussed and all of the previous weeks’ sleepers performed admirably. Andrew pops his head in to brag about how good he is at making picks! I guess we’ll just have to accept that the man has skills! As we all have come to expect and look forward to, Ross the Boss will do his weekly Rant. Ross has the audacity to criticize Russell Wilson and his commitment to his physical health. You’ve got to hear this. As always, Ross if Fired up!! Because no one can live on fantasy sports alone, we provide our healthy dose of pop culture. We have a very special guest with Dan, Kasey, and Ross on Monster Madness this week as Gabriel Iglesias agrees to share his input and humor on Heroes and Villains as we analyze round 2 in the East Bracket with the final tickets to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. Does Emperor Palpatine manage to beat the mighty Wolverine? Can Iron Man beat the Cyborg Terminator, T1000? Can the highest seed remaining, Samson, and his luscious hair defeat the sorcery of Dr. Strange? And what of young Rey? Can the youngest Jedi coral the Nothing? Check it out!! Chaos is the word of the day at the running back position — what else is new? — and our MFSN waiver wire show will help you make sense of it all. We break down the backfields in Indianapolis, New England, San Francisco, Baltimore, and Seattle, identifying the best pickups for both short- and long-term value. Meanwhile, it’s another good week for adding wide receivers to your roster, which should come as welcome news to all the unhappy Kenny Golladay owners out there. But should you prioritize Golladay’s teammate Marvin Jones or Corey Davis, who finally seems to be putting it all together? At tight end, it’s impossible to replace the great George Kittle, but thankfully there are more interesting tight ends available than usual, including a smart stash, a red zone threat, and Kittle’s backup in SF. It’s not the greatest week for streaming QBs, but there is one guy who struggled last week that we like to bounce back in a big way — listen in to find out who! Plus, we’ve got some great defenses to stream, our kicker picks, and last but not least, our list of highly-rostered players that you can feel comfortable kicking to the curb. Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), Andrew (@andrew_seifter) and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start with 1st and 10. The crew discusses how to evaluate your roster at the midpoint of the season in keeper and dynasty leagues. How do you assess player value and improve your roster either for the “win now” team or the team looking to build for the future. As always, The Boss gives you his unfiltered thoughts on who you should trade. Dan and the Boss are then joined by the talented, hysterical, and beautiful Claudia Jordan for their Post Game Interview. Claudia talks about her experiences as a radio host and as a Real Housewives of Atlanta cast member. She shares stories about her impressive athletic accomplishments as a junior track olympian. You definitely don’t want to miss Claudia’s stories about working with and for now President Donald Trump. As we all have come to expect and look forward to, Ross the Boss will do his weekly Rant. Ross shares his views on his experiences at the World Series this past week plus vents his frustrations about the recent follies of the Atlanta Falcons. Because no one can live on fantasy sports alone, we provide our healthy dose of pop culture. We have a very special guest with Dan, Kasey, and Ross on Monster Madness this week as Claudia Jordan agrees to share her unique humor and perspectives on Heroes and Villains as we analyze round 2 in the South Bracket with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. Can old man strength conquer a Class 5 Mutant? Does Spiderman’s ability to shoot webs match up well with the Black Panther’s impressive abilities? Are Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker on a collision course for an epic Oedipal Sweet Sixteen showdown? Or, are Alien and Medusa able to spoil the fun? Pop culture, debates, and intelligent humor drive so much of what makes this show different from other sports shows. The Hub has something for everyone, whether you are a rabid fantasy sports junky, a dabbler in the game, or simply like a hilarious take on sports, movies, music, raising kids, and so much more.
It’s another busy week on the waiver wire and our MFSN crew has you covered. The Tua Tagovailoa era is about to begin, but is he a viable pickup in single-QB redraft leagues? At running back, we dissect the Seahawks backfield following the Chris Carson injury and discuss two rookies in the AFC East who could be making a move to the top of the depth chart. Rookies also feature prominently in our preferred wide receiver pickups, along with a couple veteran slot receivers who may be under-appreciated by most fantasy managers. At tight end, we still think you should roster Dallas Goedert, but his backup isn’t a bad streamer for this week, either! After taking defenses and kickers, we wrap up with a discussion of notable names to drop, including OBJ and some other big names who don’t have an injury to blame for their drop-worthiness!
Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), Andrew (@andrew_seifter) and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) kick things off with 1st and 10. The crew discusses how to navigate your roster to get yourself ready for the playoffs, boost your chances of getting there if you are on the bubble, or make one last hail mary if you’re way behind. We talk bye weeks and how to avoid altering your team too much just to manage them. For our Post Game Interview, Dan and Ross are joined by pro bowl and NFL record holding kicker, Matt Prater, and we bring on Andrew to run his kickers theory past someone who actually does the job! We get the real scoop on what it’s like to wait on the sidelines, but always be ready to deliver in clutch moments. Take care of that leg, Matt! In our latest installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, the Boss, Lauren, and Andrew review previous week’s picks and each make new picks for our surprise performers that rank outside the top 24 RBs and WRs or top 12 QBs and TEs. We also take a look at some of the biggest games of the upcoming weekend and analyze which games are likely to bring big scores and which are not good for fantasy performers. Ross’s Rant is extra rushed this week, making it even more frenetic and fun. He covers the race to get the number one pick and the big prize, Trevor Lawrence. As always, we provide a healthy dose of pop culture, but in bracket form! This week, Dan, Kasey, and Ross are joined by the one and only Howie Mandel on Monster Madness. Howie faces the steep challenge of judging a contest that is entirely subjective...wait a minute, he does that ALL THE TIME!. Four more Heroes and Villains go down, as we continue round two with Sweet Sixteen spots on the line in the Midwest Bracket. DOES size matter? Will Moby Dick be too much for Yoda? Can Ross stop revealing his clear bias for Dr. Manhattan’s automatic victory in the tournament? Dumbledore has his hands full with Superman, no matter how many times he might say ‘expelliarmus!’ Superman doesn’t have a wand, Albus. And, last but not least, Dan’s ‘sleeper’ pick of Freddy Krueger faces a stiff test in Wonder Woman and Howie swings a vote!
Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), Andrew (@andrew_seifter) and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start with 1st and 10.The crew discusses their typical week in fantasy football. They discuss how they watch the games on Sunday and where to go for the best information and research. For our Post Game Interview, Dan and Ross are joined by the one and only Matt Iseman (@mattiseman). Not many people know about Matt’s history of athletics and the fact that he may be the smartest person any of us know. Matt is incredibly funny and keeps the crew laughing with his funny stories and experiences. In our latest installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, the Boss, and Andrew take a look at some of the biggest games of the upcoming weekend as well as give the listener several underrated players who can help their fantasy teams. Our previous week’s picks were discussed and all of the previous weeks’ sleepers performed admirably. As we all have come to expect and look forward to, Ross the Boss will do his weekly Rant. Ross is continuing his Dallas theme from the week before. This time, he talks about Dak Prescott’s injury and his thoughts about the inability of Dak and the Cowboys to agree on a long-term contract prior to the season. Because no one can live on fantasy sports alone, we provide our healthy dose of pop culture. We have a very special guest with Dan, Kasey, and Ross on Monster Madness this week as Matt Eiseman agrees to dive down the rabbit hole of Heroes and Villains as we begin round 2 in the West Bracket with a trip to the Sweet Sixteen on the line. Dak Prescott’s season-ending ankle injury was a huge punch to the gut for anyone who cares about football, but the show must go on for Cowboys fans — and fantasy football managers. Thankfully, MFSN The Hub’s Waiver Wire show is back to give you all the information you need. Should Prescott managers turn to Andy Dalton, or is there another widely-available quarterback who makes for a better waiver wire add? With Dalvin Cook dealing with a groin injury, is Alexander Mattison worth a #1 waiver claim or massive FAAB bid? It’s a great week to pick up a wide receiver, but who is the better add: Chase Claypool or Mecole Hardman? Is there anyone worth picking up at tight end, or is it just a massive dumpster fire? How does the NFL’s schedule changes affect streaming defense and kicker this week? We cover all that and finish with a strategy discussion about setting lineups in the age of Covid-19. Tune in! Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start with 1st and 10. Dan is really enjoying his role as coercive debate moderator. Today he focuses on the two big names in rookie QBs. Is Joe Burrow going to be a bust? Is Tua Tagavailoa going to save the Dolphins this season or are they just going to wait until 2021 to play him? Andrew (@andrew_seifter) joins the team to discuss fantasy stacks. Is it smart to have multiple players from the same team in your line up on a regular occasion? In our latest installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, the Boss, and Andrew are joined by Lauren (@lkauerbach) to pick their top shelf players for the week as well as an under-ranked or underrated player for you to get an advantage in your league. Our previous week’s picks were so poor, we avoid embarrassing each other by reviewing them. Instead, we choose to focus on the future and remain confident. As we all have come to expect and look forward to, Ross the Boss will do his weekly Rant. Ross was clearly unhappy with the management of the Dallas Cowboys. You’ll never believe what he recommends!!! Because no one can live on fantasy sports alone, we provide our healthy dose of pop culture. We have a very special guest with Dan, Kasey, and Ross on Monster Madness this week as world famous Kevin Nealon agrees to lend his keen insight and comedic talent to the Heroes and Villains Bracket. We are into the last games of the first round, the 5-12 matchups and the 4-13 matchups. Will a Marvel Heroin be able to take down the multi-faceted Voltron? What about Buffy the Vampire Slayer facing off against the Matrix’s Agent Smith? Lastly, just how smart and powerful is Dr. Manhattan? Could he honestly take down the Incredible Hulk? Our Post Game Interview is a great one! Ross and Dan are joined by comedian and actor, Billy Gardell. Billy entertains the audience with funny anecdotes and experiences as well as impresses the entire crew with his depth of knowledge about football, fantasy sports, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. This guy is really good! You won’t want to miss the ending. Pop culture, debates, and intelligent humor drive so much of what makes this show different from other sports shows. It was another rough week for injuries, with Nick Chubb and Austin Ekeler both going down. Should you prioritize D’Ernest Johnson or Justin Jackson on the waiver wire? Or go in a completely different direction with Chase Edmonds or Damien Harris? Are the Tee Higgins and Scotty Miller breakouts sustainable? Is Justin Herbert destined for fantasy greatness or for the Chargers’ bench? And what can we expect from Aaron Rodgers’ new favorite weapon Robert Tonyan? Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) start 1st and 10 with a heated debate in which Dan enjoys playing puppet master and forcing Ross and Kasey to argue a position regardless of their actual beliefs. Is James Robinson the real deal? Is Aaron Rodgers destined for a crash? Has Justin Jefferson arrived? The experts then dive in on strategy, considering how to reevaluate your fantasy roster a quarter of the way through the season. Knowing when to buy, sell, or hold a player based on their performance is crucial to sustained success in fantasy football. In our latest installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, Ross the Boss, and Andrew (@andrew_seifter) discuss how their difference maker picks did the previous weekend and try to help you find players who will help you in your game for the following weekend. It’s always fun to see who gets it right and who gets made fun of! As we all have come to expect and look forward to, Ross the Boss will do his weekly Rant. As always, we provide a healthy dose of fun on top of fantasy sports knowledge and debates. Andrew subs in for Lauren again, who experienced some technical difficulties, to join Dan, Kasey, and Ross in our usual Heroes and Villains brackets debates and determine the results of the 3-14 and 6-11 matchups in round 1 of Monster Madness. Don’t miss finding out not only who wins, but WHY! Will there be any upsets? Only one way to find out for yourself! Can a current Star Wars Villain defeat a crafty horror movie character from the 80’s? Can a telekinetic, telepathic teenager defeat the Alien? The team debates the number of Star Wars characters in the bracket as another one is forced to face off with a ferocious ocean predator. We are also joined by Super Bowl-winning, former NFL wide receiver, and current NFL Network Analyst, James Jones, to hear about his life in the NFL and who he believes is the best current player in fantasy football. It’s Week 4, which means the fantasy football season is already almost a quarter over. The time is now to make impact moves to separate yourself from your competition, and our waiver wire show is here to guide you with the best picks. Two rookie WRs had big breakouts, but is Justin Jefferson or Brandon Aiyuk the better pickup? At QB, what can we expect now that Nick Foles has a starting job — and will Justin Herbert hold onto his? Week 2 fantasy football was an injury-riddled bloodbath, but our waiver wire show is here to help you pick up the pieces and get your team back on track. We’ll run down the top RBs to add if you lost Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, or Raheem Mostert, and the top wideouts to replace Courtland Sutton and Paris Campbell. Relying on Jimmy Garoppolo, Tyrod Taylor, or Drew Lockat QB in a superflex league? We’ve got you covered there, too. We’ve even got a spirited debate about kicker strategy! fantasy football prophet
In this episode, Dan (@drdanratner), Kasey (@kaseyshienvold), and Ross the Boss (@rossamark) dive right in on strategy on 1st and 10. Joined by Fantasy Pros expert, Andrew Seifter (@andrew_seifter), they explore all of the ways to assess value -- on the wire, in looking for trades, and even on your own team. The cast talks about the importance of doing this right from the start, so you can build your team the right way, utilizing every strategy and roster spot to set you up to win. In our second installment of Take Your Pick, Dan, Kasey, Ross the Boss, and Andrew each go out on a limb to pick their difference maker of week 2. We’ll be keeping tabs to see how it turns out each week. Find out which expert makes the best calls! But don’t miss our Waiver Wire show on Tuesday to find out specific players to target for your week 2 games. As always, you will also be treated to Ross’s Rant. Do we know what he’s saying? Does HE? As always, we provide a healthy dose of fun on top of fantasy sports knowledge and debates. Lauren (@lkauerbach) joins Dan, Kasey, and Ross to debate and determine the results of the 1-16 and 8-9 matchups in round 1. Don’t miss finding out not only who wins, but WHY! Can any 16 seed even put up a fight. Oh, you’d be surprised. We discuss a grown man mutant having to fight a child wizard, but Ross the Boss has no qualms of being out for blood, and we consider just how bad the Emperor’s liver would taste to Hannibal Lector. Optimus Prime -- made of metal -- is in trouble against Magneto. Will He-Man’s bowl cut save him? And, mystery of all mysteries, how did Conan O’Brien find his way into the talk? We are also joined by former NFL player Chukie Nwokorie. Find out about his famous play and what it was like to play with Brett Favre! In our first installment of The Great Debate, the cast banters about their least favorite type of manager, with Fantasy Pros expert, Andrew Seifter weighing in. This is not only a venting session, but a serious look at how to set your league up to avoid such managers or whip them into shape for the most fun and competitive league possible. In our premiere episode, Dan, Kasey, and Ross the Boss discuss why they wanted to have a show not just on fantasy sports, but on the strategy that can help you win, from all angles. Ranging from how to throw the right kind of draft party, developing your relationships with your league mates, and knowing your own strengths and weakness to key insights on how you can make the most of your draft position and every pick in the draft, we get you ready for your upcoming draft and season. In First and Ten, we begin to help you see how to separate from the pack in your fantasy football draft, getting away from the typical, monotonous and one dimensional discussions about individual players and stats and focusing, instead, on the big picture to build a balanced, ferocious team and make you a better fantasy sports manager altogether for years to come. Fantasy Pros expert Andrew Seifter joins to give his top advice in preparing for the Fantasy Football draft as the season approaches. But that’s not all! The team will always make you laugh — whether about how much pastrami to buy for your draft or whether Yoda should be a 2 seed in the heroes and villains Monster Madness bracket. Lauren Auerbach joins Dan, Kasey, and Ross to announce the Monster Madness selection committee choices, so you can begin mapping out who you think will advance to the Final Four and who will win it all. Pop culture, debates, and intelligent humor drive so much of what makes this show different from other sports shows. In this week’s Post Game Interview segment, Rich Davis of ESPN and SiriusXM joins us to discuss the fantasy outlook for his 49ers, Bubble Guppies, and who should be the number one pick of the draft. The Hub has something for everyone, whether you are a rabid fantasy sports junky, a dabbler in the game, or simply like a hilarious take on sports, movies, music, raising kids, and so much more.
