Interview by Angela CroudaceHeavy metal legend Ross The Boss is set to electrify Australia next week, and he couldn't be more excited. Reflecting on his previous visit, Ross recalls the overwhelming love he received from Aussie fans. "The reaction nerfed me," he laughed. "The intensity, especially in Melbourne, was unbelievable."Ross, a founding member of Manowar, spoke passionately about the creation of Sign of the Hammer, revealing that the band often recorded more tracks than needed, seizing every opportunity in the studio. A highlight was recording at Richard Branson's famed Manor Studio — a surreal experience that included sleeping in rooms once occupied by historical figures like William the Conqueror. This upcoming tour features what Ross calls the best version of the RTB band yet, boasting powerhouse musicians like Dirk Schlächter (Gamma Ray) and drummer Sean Elg. “We're coming to melt faces,” Ross promises, highlighting the group's precision and raw power. When asked about his time in Manowar, Ross candidly shared that he wished he'd been firmer with his bandmate Joey DeMaio. "Sometimes I should've put my foot down more," he admitted. Despite past challenges, he now channels his passion purely through his guitar, still rooted in the soulful blues influences of B.B. King and Albert King.Ross also touched on the emotional impact his music has had. "People tell me it saved their lives," he said, visibly moved. "It's an honour I don't take lightly."As Ross prepares to unleash a storm of classic anthems down under, he leaves fans with one promise: “We'll give you 150%. When the final note rings out, we want you to feel it in your soul — and want us back.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Interview by Kris PetersMuch has changed with Metal Church since their last visit to Australian shores. The most notable, and tragic of which being the loss of legendary frontman Mike Howe in 2021.Having pressed on to honour the memory of their former bandmate, Metal Church earlier this year released their first album with new vocalist Marc Lopes titled Congregation of Annihilation, in the process ushering in a new era and paying the ultimate respect to their future by harking back to the music that first saw Metal Church rise to prominence. With the band kicking off their Australian tour in Melbourne on December 14, HEAVY sat down with Lopes to run through the album and his debut recording with Metal Church."I'm ready," he smiled. "Ready to go. We just came off the road from doing a bunch of dates here in the States, so we're all ready to go again. We're doing - I call it a warm-up show - but we're doing a show a couple of days before we go to Australia here in California to get the pumps rolling again."It will be the first visit to these shores since 2019 so we question Lopes on what - aside from his position in the band - has changed with Metal Church since that tour."The set list is tremendously different," he offered. "It's pretty heavy on the first few albums and our new album. We're having a really good time and there's a lot of energy. Anybody that's seen me play live with Ross The Boss or anything knows that I am pretty much a hypermaniac (laughs). That hasn't changed."In the full interview, Marc talks more about what to expect from the run of shows, the reception to the new album, how it returns to the band's roots, if that was a conscious direction, how it ushers in the new era of Metal Church, his transition into the band, any difficulties he faced making the album, what lessons he will carry into the next one and more.Tickets And Info: www.hardlinemedia.net

Considering it has been the case since 2015, we should be used to watching Freo free finals. However, there's always that ache in your heart. No Freo footy but there's plenty of purple prattle. While we might not be playing finals we haven't missed out so far in awards season. Andy Brayshaw and, as Jojo refers to him, the late Adam Cerra were selected in the best AFL 22 under 22, with the former receiving vice captaincy honours. He also went on to claim the Geoff Christian medal. On the back of his 2020 rising star win and superb 2021 season the coaches couldn't split Caleb Serong and Noah Anderson for the best young player award. We talk the delistings. Were they harsh, fair, and will another club throw them a lifeline? Will Freo throw any of them a relisting lifeline? The Cez chatter is set to increase. He's chosen the Blues and it may well set up a reintroduction with Ross ‘the Boss' Lyon. Adam might want to stop in at the local florist before the possible rendezvous. What's the starting point in terms of trade worth? Can we put the faith in Belly to get it done at the negotiating table once again? Is Sam Petrevski Seton or Zac Fisher part of the conversation? We don't want to light any fires but we'll lob it in there anyway.... it seems all has gone quiet on the Rory story. Is he not enough Gold for the Suns on the east coast?Thoughts on having Rosco Lyon back in the AFL coaching ranks. And lastly Jojo brings us home with a distasteful, in more ways than one, closing quandary.Sure, we're nowhere near as entertaining as a Ross Lyon press conference but there's a purple void in the Freo football fan landscape at the moment and we're doing our bit to fill it. So click play and you'll get a stark reminder of the value of the sound of silence.
In this edition of Malcontent's MalcoCast Podcast, we talk about recent comments that Ross "the Boss" Friedman, the founder of Manowar, said regarding paying for music. In short, Ross the Boss said that if you don't pay for music, musicians will stop making it. Hey, musicians have to eat too! Amirite? Find out what our thoughts are on the topic.
Its back..........Who will be the caller of the week kat, Ross The Boss, or Stephen?
