Raheem Mostert followed Mike McDaniel to Miami and the decision paid off in a major way. Mostert led the league with 18 rushing touchdowns while rookie third-round pick De'Von Achane averaged more than seven yards per carry on the ground. That said, Miami's rushing attack disappeared with its Super Bowl aspirations late in the season. Considering that Jeff Wilson Jr., Chris Brooks, and potentially Salvon Ahmed are all in the mix, we explain why it doesn't make sense for Miami to swing big for King Henry. While "thunder and lightning" seems to make sense for a running back duo, the Dolphins have struggled with it in recent years. Only the Baltimore Ravens average more rushing yards per game than the Miami Dolphins but recent injuries could jeopardize the team's ground assault. The Dolphins announced on Tuesday that Salvon Ahmed would be placed on injured reserve. Raheem Mostert played 55/70 snaps last Sunday but Miami will need another answer at the position. De'Von Achane "should" play Friday and Jeff Wilson Jr., despite being a healthy scratch last week, is another option the Dolphins could lean on down the stretch — will it be enough to reach the finish line? The Miami Dolphins trail just the Baltimore Ravens in rushing yards per game but are suddenly dealing with a handful of injuries at the position. After playing 20 snaps and scoring a touchdown Sunday, the Dolphins announced that running back Salvon Ahmed would be placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. On top of that, rookie De'Von Achane played just four snaps before leaving the game with a knee injury. It sounds like coach Mike McDaniel decided to play it safe with Achane, but we'll have to wait and see how safe. Jeff Wilson Jr. was a healthy scratch last week but will likely have a large role in the coming weeks. Another Dolphins Podcast is hosted by Joshua Houtz (@Houtz) and Jake Mendel (@JMendel94). Another Sunday, another very comfortable Miami Dolphins victory. Of course, it didn't start out that way. The Dolphins came out uncharacteristically flat and allowed the Carolina Panthers to jump out to a 14-0 first quarter lead. After that, though, normal service was resumed as the Dolphins put up 35 straight points led by Tua Tagovailoa, Tyreek Hill, and Raheem Mostert before Mike White threw a garbage time pick six. They still weren't done, as Salvon Ahmed ran in a touchdown to finish off a 42-21 Dolphins win. Where does this leave the Dolphins? How much confidence should there be that the Dolphins can topple tougher opposition? Aaron and Josh discuss this and much more on another fun episode of THE SAME OLD DOLPHINS SHOW at DolphinsTalk.com!

The Dolphins also added rookie De'Von Achane in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Ignoring a possible Jonathan Taylor trade — who will join Mostert, Wilson, and Achane on Miami's 53-man roster? Ahmed shined with a handful of big runs throughout the preseason but Gaskin showcased a level of consistency any play-caller would like in the backfield. The campaign to sign Dalvin Cook came to a close on Monday. The New York Jets added Dalvin Cook on a one-year $8 million deal to pair with Breece Hall in the backfield — what does that mean for the Miami Dolphins? Miami will lean on Jeff Wilson Jr. and Raheem Mostert throughout the 2023 season, but where does De'Von Achane come into play? How can Salvon Ahmed and Myles Gaskin get into the mix? Lastly, the Dolphins have roughly $13 million in remaining cap space -- how will the team decide to use that money? De'Von Achane played 50 percent of Miami's offensive snaps against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night but fifth-year tailback Myles Gaskin stole the spotlight with 57 rushing yards on seven carries. It's clear that coach Mike McDaniel and Miami's offensive staff is working to carve out a role for Achane in his rookie season. That said, can a successful preseason from Gaskin shake up Miami's plans at the running back position — considering Salvon Ahmed played just five snaps? Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson Jr. will carry the workload in Miami's backfield but Gaskin looked like the perfect "flex seal" running back to help the team overcome the injuries that occur while playing a 17-game season. Early in the preseason, it's easy to overreact to each bit of information released about a player or team. The Miami Dolphins released the first depth chart of 2023 earlier this week but did it offer any hints to what coach Mike McDaniel is thinking? Larnel Coleman was the backup left tackle on Miami's initial depth chart last year but things look much different this season. Will Isaiah Wynn stay at guard or get a shot at right tackle? Preston Williams was a second-team receiver on the depth chart last preseason — what does that say for players like Cedrick Wilson Jr., River Cracraft, and Robbie Chosen? Can Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed hold onto roster spots? In this episode of the Fins Family Podcast, we recap the Miami Dolphins gut-wrenching 15-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in week 2 of the 2022 NFL preseason. We'll take a look at how Tua Tagovailoa faired in his first action of the year, commiserate over the running game for a second straight week, and fall in love with Erik Ezukanma. All 3 QBs got in the gameTua looks good, shows strong command and leadership; did a good job buying time and finding the open receiverBridgewater looked like Teddy Bridgewater, some beautiful throws overshadowed by excessive backward running and overthrown ballsSkylar Thompson stole the show again making a case for himself as the backupThe Receiving CoreMike Gesicki was having a rough go and stayed in for a large portion of the game because of it.Erik Ezukanma solidifies a roster spot, and likely the 4th WR spot to boot with a strong 6 catches for 114 yards that only tells a small part of the story.Despite being heavily targeted and involved, Braylon Sanders failed to make a positive impression.Trent Sherfield pulled in his lone target for 16 yards on a beautiful route and throw from Tua. Since he's playing with the 1's I'd assume he's got a spot.Lynn Bowden Jr played heavily on special teams but only had 1 target on offense.River Cracraft ran some nice routes and did a great job getting open to bail out his QB, just not sure he's shown enough.Mohamed Sanu and Preston Williams didn't move the needle at all for themselves. The Run Game Struggles Again18 carries for 37 yards from 7 ball carriers.Salvon Ahmed leads the night with 5 for 20.Sony Michel fails to convert on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1, finishing with 2 carries for 0 yards.Chase Edmonds runs 3 times for 3 yards.Myles Gaskin goes 4 for 12 with a fumble at the end of the half.ZaQuandre White with a beautiful pass from Skylar Thompson, makes a man miss, and scores.Cornerback WoesNoah Igbinoghene continued to struggleNik Needham and Keion Crossen both went down with seemingly minor injuries but both were lost for the game; Needham was having a good game before the injury.Mackensie Alexander got smoked on a slant on one of his first plays in the game but redeemed himself on a nice pass breakup a few plays later.Kader Kohou took advantage of his opportunity, performing very well in coverage.Elijah Campbell had a meh night after a strong showing last week.Linebacker BattleStarters Zach Sieler, Jaelan Phillips, and Andrew Van Ginkel all stood out in their minimal play time.Duke Riley is a beast.Channing Tindall was all over the place, as the Madden sim told us he'd be, recording 6 tackles on the night and being around the ball constantly.Porter Gustin lands another sack and a TFL, making a strong case to put him on the 53-man.Cameron Goode was once again… good. 5 tackles and a tackle for a loss.Ben Stille showed up again too, grabbing a sack and a TFL for another strong showing.Did Darius Hodge play?  Jason Sanders misses the game-winning FG (46 yards)

Marcas Grant is joined by our old friend Matt Harmon (Reception Perception, Yahoo Fantasy) to preview the second week of preseason action. After catching up, Marcas and Matt talk through some preseason storylines to watch, including Dak Prescott's injury, how the Cowboys' skill players Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup could be affected, and the suddenly crowded Miami Dolphins running back room with Myles Gaskin, Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed. Then, the hosts go deep into methods used to track wide receiver play, covering faults with separation metrics and how the NFL has evolved to allow young receivers to contribute right out of college. Next, Matt identifies some receivers who may be undervalued, explaining what to make of Odell Beckham Jr., Corey Davis, and Mecole Hardman going into this season. Later, the duo asks five questions they hope to see answered in Preseason Week 2, touching on situations in New England, Denver, Houston, New Orleans and Philadelphia. Finally, Matt and Marcas wrap up the show with a rapid-fire discussion about Knives Out and memoirs. The NFL Fantasy Football Podcast is part of the NFL Podcast Network.
