Witness History is for those fascinated by the past. We take you to the events that have shaped our world through the eyes of the people who were there. For nine minutes every day, we take you back in time and all over the world, to examine wars, coups, scientific discoveries, cultural moments and much more. Recent episodes explore everything from football in Brazil, the history of the ‘Indian Titanic' and the invention of air fryers, to Public Enemy's Fight The Power, subway art and the political crisis in Georgia. We look at the lives of some of the most famous leaders, artists, scientists and personalities in history, including: visionary architect Antoni Gaudi and the design of the Sagrada Familia; Michael Jordan and his bespoke Nike trainers; Princess Diana at the Taj Mahal; and Görel Hanser, manager of legendary Swedish pop band Abba on the influence they've had on the music industry. You can learn all about fascinating and surprising stories, such as the time an Iraqi journalist hurled his shoes at the President of the United States in protest of America's occupation of Iraq; the creation of the Hollywood commercial that changed advertising forever; and the ascent of the first Aboriginal MP.(Photo: Sister Chang Khong. Since starting the podcast in 2017, I've been fortunate to speak with quite a few Olympic Gold medallists. It's even more fun when you have known them since before that victory and observed their progress. Today's guest is Leeds-based triathlete, Jess Learmonth. I've known Jess for quite sometime, and I'm so pleased to be chatting with her today! About 8 or 9 years ago she started swimming with our Masters group at the Survival Saturday session. 2 hours of pain overseen by our enthusiastic coach, Alan Hutchinson. Jess went right into the top lane and then carried on. As you'll hear in the show she was getting back into the pool after a 6 year absence. She'd started to dabble in triathlon and, because of the huge engine she built as a younger swimmer, she progressed very quickly. It wasn't long before she was selected for British Triathlon funding and a pathway through to the elite squad. Arguably the strongest swimmer in the sport, Jess often emerged first from the water, and as one of the best cyclists, she then set the tone on the bike, hammering away at the front. As you'll hear, running was a struggle for Jess. The ‘floppy ankles & feet' required to be a good swimmer definitely do not help with running. In the conversation there's a great message from Jess' run coach Malcolm Brown about the value of consistency in training. Please listen out for that one. Jess and I also chat about: The brutality of swimming squads for young athletes and why it “drained the life" out of Jess Why triathlon swimming seems so easy in comparison Having patience and building resilience Floppy ankles and not being a natural runner The hot, surreal experience of winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 Pregnancy, motherhood and why there are more important things in life than triathlon To find out more about Jess you can go to: Website - JessLearmonth.com Instagram - JessLearmonth Jess recommended the book Scientific Training for Triathletes by Phil Skiba Jess is a keen Leeds United fan and loves this podcast Square Ball: The Leeds United Podcast **To get a free copy of my personal daily mobility routine, please click HERE** To contact Beth regarding Life Coaching, please visit her website at BethanyWardLifeCoaching.uk. In this podcast we talk about the future of transport with Iain Stewart MP, chair of the House of Commons Transport Select Committee. In January 2023 the Transport Select Committee kicked off its Our Future Transport campaign, in which the public was invited to pitch ideas on what the Committee should investigate.Over 220 ideas were submitted on a range of topics leading to the shortlisting of 12 applicants who were then invited to pitch to the MPs in a Dragon's Den-style process. Two ideas made it through the grilling and in June 2023 the Transport Committee launched two major new inquiries – first was into the Future of Transport Data, based on a suggestion by the Railway Industry Association and the company Matatika to investigate the future uses of data in the transport sector to innovate and improve services. The second was the Strategic Transport Objectives inquiry to examine how Government develops strategic objectives for its future transport policy, prompted by Martin Tugwell, chief executive of Transport for the North and Malcolm Brown of Angel Trains. Both inquiries intend to help government form its future transport policy. Both should help guide the way the UK plans and invests in the transport systems that will be key to underpinning the nation's vital future economic growth, social wellbeing and of course the journey towards a net zero future. The consultation period for the inquiries finished last month in which the committee called for evidence and examples that should help MPs form future policy. In effect the hard yards start now as members of the Committee examine this evidence and put together a set of recommendations to underpin our Future Transport. It is therefore my pleasure to welcome my guest today Iain Stewart MP, chair of the House of Commons Transport Select Committee. Iain has been deeply involved in the Our Transport Future campaign all year so I hope will give us a steer as to how he sees these two inquiries shaping the future of the UK's transport policyResourcesOur Future Transport campaignTransport Committee launches two new inquiriesThe Future of Transport Data inquiry Strategic Transport Objectives Inquiry
We're delighted to welcome back to the show European and World Champion Non Stanford. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Blaine Grisak and JB Scott are back with another installment of Last Minute Thoughts, and they break down everything you need to know 24 hours ahead of this NFC West battle. LA made a flurry of transactions this week, and there's plenty to catchup with on the injury front. The Rams brought in reinforcements on offense: re-uniting with veterans Malcolm Brown and Kendall Blanton, promoting Oday Aboushi to the active roster, picking up center Matt Skura. Tremayne Anchrum (season-ending injury) and Brycen Hopkins (3-game suspension) join Van Jefferson and Brian Allen on the sidelines. LA added CB Shaun Jolly and OLB Takk McKinley to the defense, but they're without CB's Troy Hill, David Long, and Cobie Durant this week. Safety Jordan Fuller is also questionable with an injury that popped up late in the practice week. The next men up in the secondary are likely second-year corner Robert Rochell and rookie Derion Kendrick. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Recorded 24 May 2022 The 45th President of the United State may have left office in a cloud but he continues to dominate the Republican party. Indeed his endorsements have raised eyebrows and even given the Democrats some hope ahead of the crucial mid-term elections. But can he ride this wave and run again in 2024? And can Joe Biden and the Democrats claw anything back and avoid a rout. Malcolm Brown and Professor Tom Baldino take the temperature of the nation and look ahead to our own midterms tour scheduled for this November (3-9).

Marcas Grant is joined by our old friend Matt Harmon (Reception Perception, Yahoo Fantasy) to preview the second week of preseason action. After catching up, Marcas and Matt talk through some preseason storylines to watch, including Dak Prescott's injury, how the Cowboys' skill players Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup could be affected, and the suddenly crowded Miami Dolphins running back room with Myles Gaskin, Malcolm Brown and Salvon Ahmed. Then, the hosts go deep into methods used to track wide receiver play, covering faults with separation metrics and how the NFL has evolved to allow young receivers to contribute right out of college. Next, Matt identifies some receivers who may be undervalued, explaining what to make of Odell Beckham Jr., Corey Davis, and Mecole Hardman going into this season. Later, the duo asks five questions they hope to see answered in Preseason Week 2, touching on situations in New England, Denver, Houston, New Orleans and Philadelphia. Finally, Matt and Marcas wrap up the show with a rapid-fire discussion about Knives Out and memoirs. The NFL Fantasy Football Podcast is part of the NFL Podcast Network. The Los Angeles Rams have two of the more dominant defensive players on their roster, a jumbled yet intriguing running back situation, and could produce two TE1 seasons out of Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett. Looking at the Rams' defense, do they have enough players and talent outside of Aaron Donald and Jalen Ramsey to thrive? The running back situation will be fun to evaluate, particularly the roles in which Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson, and Malcolm Brown operate in. Lastly, the fantasy football debate between Tyler Higbee and Gerald Everett is a fun and confusing situation, and could ultimately end with both players co-existing or the Rams electing to only keep one moving forward.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!
