The 60-year-old was first arrested in July 2023 for the deaths of four women whose remains were found in burlap sacks along the Ocean Parkway in New York over a decade ago. Detectives finally nabbed Heuermann in 2023 after he tossed a pizza box with leftover crust into a Manhattan trash can after the investigation that took more than a decade. The DNA from his crust matched genetic material found on the women's remains. Heuermann faces charges in connection to the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Lynn Costello and Maureen Brainard-Barnes - also known as "The Gilgo Four." Taylor and Costilla were announced has Heuermann's fifth and sixth victims on Thursday. The announcement comes weeks after authorities returned to Heuermann's Long Island home. At least half a dozen law enforcement agents were spotted in Heuermann's driveway on May 20. Heuermann is currently being held at the Riverhead Correctional Facility in Suffolk County, about 50 miles from his home. Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol Toulon Jr. said Heuermann busies himself with reading books, reading his discovery, watching TV and sleeping, according to an Oxygen article. He has been separated from other inmates "for his safety," according to the article. Toulon called him "very compliant."
Police officers who 'brought shame on their uniforms' and let Emma Caldwell's killer Iain Packer walk free for 19 years should be jailed if it is found they 'engaged in criminality', her family's lawyer says. Packer, 51, was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 36 years at the High Court in Glasgow this month after being found guilty of murdering the 27-year-old in 2005, as well as 11 rapes and 21 other charges, including sexual assaults, against other women. Yet 'one of the UK's worst sex offenders' was left to roam the streets for nearly two decades despite officers being repeatedly told Packer 'is the man' and the warped killed taking officers in 2007 to the spot where Emma's body was dumped.

KOMO News - "An explosion of sex trafficking," is how one Seattle city council member described what's happening along Aurora Avenue in north Seattle. Some business owners and residents told KOMO News something needs to be done. During a recent community public safety meeting, councilmember Cathy Moore said one tool she's considering to address the issue is a proposal to reinstate Seattle's loitering law. Moore told a packed room of community members in late April that she believes the spike in sex trafficking is linked in part to the repeal of the city's loitering law back in 2020. The moment Moore suggested reinstating the loitering law as a potential tool to address the spike in sex trafficking the room erupted in applause.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A former St. Clair High School teacher who resigned after her OnlyFans page was reported to district officials has been fired after days on a new job. Brianna Coppage had been a teacher for five years, spending two at St. Clair High School. She was put on leave in October after it was discovered that she was using OnlyFans to supplement her teaching salary. After her OnlyFans became public, Coppage told First Alert 4 that she had made $1 million on the platform. Her yearly teaching salary was $42,000, she said at the time. After leaving the district, Coppage told First Alert 4 that she struggled to find her purpose.
"Originally published March 14 by Idaho Reports. The Idaho Senate passed legislation Thursday that would make online pornography publishers and distributors vulnerable to civil liability if a minor accesses harmful material on the internet. āOur kids are continuously exposed to pornography, and our current laws don't effectively protect them,ā said bill sponsor Sen. Ben Toews, R-Coeur d'Alene. āWhat you have before you is an effective solution. It uses third-party age verification as a way to block that content from children.ā House Bill 498 would require websites where at least one-third of the content is pornographic to perform āreasonable age verificationā to prevent minors from accessing the harmful material. The House unanimously passed the bill on Feb. 14."
https://www.eswalliance.org/statement_on_financial_discrimination_of_sex_workers "With this statement, ESWA expresses its deep concern and disappointment regarding the recent abrupt decision of payment platform Stripe to cease working with Wishtender, an online platform utilised by sex workers. The lack of transparency surrounding Stripe's decision is concerning as it obstructs accountability. Furthermore, the abrupt nature of Stripe's action has generated considerable stress and uncertainty amongst sex workers who feared the loss of their resources and the platform they relied upon."
A former Army officer has been sentenced to four years in prison after raping a sex worker in Wellington. Savenaca Seruvatu was convicted of sexual violation by rape in the Wellington District Court in February, after removing a condom without consent during sexual intercourse in an adult entertainment club in Lower Hutt in September 2020.
A former Pasco Police Officer was sentenced today in a Spokane cold case murder that spanned 38 years and resulted in two trials Twenty-seven-year-old Ruby Doss was found murdered in 1986 in East Spokane, her case was worked by the Spokane Police Department for decades with no conclusion or arrest of a suspect. In 2015 DNA collected from a condom found at the Ruby Doss crime scene was matched to Richard Aguirre. Aguirre's DNA had been submitted during an unrelated rape investigation in Franklin County. Aguirre was tried in that case and found not guilty by a jury in 2017. At the time Ruby Doss was murdered Aguirre was living in Spokane serving in the U.S. Airforce and stationed at Fairchild. He then moved to the Tri-cities where in 1988 he became a Pasco Police Officer. In 2016 Aguirre was charged with murder for the killing of Ruby Doss but the charges were dropped in 2017 due to a lack of evidence. In 2021 the Spokane County Prosecutors office brought the charge on Aguirre again but a jury could not agree on a verdict and a mistrial was declared. In 2023 Aguirre was once again tried and in December convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of Ruby Doss. Today the judge handed down a sentence of 25 years, which fell at the high end of the range of 20 to 26 years. Aguirre is now 59 years old. Ruby's four daughters were able to speak to the court and describe the loss they each experienced and the continuing loss their family has, and will suffer, as now three generations have been deprived of knowing Ruby. This case brings closure not just to the family of Ruby Doss but to an entire community as well as generations of Spokane Police Investigators, Spokane County Prosecutors and others who sought justice for Ruby Doss.
Lawmakers are trying to pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), a dangerous censorship bill that would give the government unprecedented control over the internet and force platforms to spy on youth. KOSA uses two methods to āprotectā kids, and both of them are awful. First, KOSA would pressure platforms to install filters that would wipe the net of anything deemed āinappropriateā for minors. This = instructing platforms to censor, plain and simple. Places that already use content filters have restricted important information about suicide prevention and LGBTQ+ support groups, and KOSA would spread this kind of censorship to every corner of the internet. It's no surprise that anti-rights zealots are excited about KOSA: it would let them shut down websites that cover topics like race, gender, and sexuality.

"Every year at this time, football fans across the country and around the globe ready themselves for the most-watched event in the professional sports calendar. The traditions surrounding the Super Bowl are time honored. The host city rolls out the red carpet to welcome 100,000 visitors and millions of viewers anticipate a great game, entertaining halftime show and catchy commercials. Just as entrenched as those traditions is the annual reminder that the Super Bowl causes human trafficking to spike in its host city. Sounds like a valuable PSA, right? swopusa.org/donate A former Columbus vice detective pleaded guilty to federal accusations Thursday that he kidnapped sex worker victims under the guise of an arrest, according to federal prosecutors. Andrew Mitchell, 59, of Sunbury, pleaded guilty to two counts of depriving individuals of their civil rights while acting under color of law and one count of obstructing justice, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio. Mitchell spent more than 30 years with the Columbus Division of Police and was assigned to the vice union for the final two years of his employment, which ended in 2019, prosecutors said. While working as a detective in July 2017, Mitchell wore plain clothes and drove an unmarked car when he handcuffed a sex worker to his vehicle, then drove to a parking lot and detained the woman against her will after identifying himself as an officer, prosecutors said. Two months later, while again working as a plainclothes detective, he questioned a sex worker about rates before he said he was an officer and then kidnapped her, prosecutors said. Mitchell was acquitted earlier this year of murder and manslaughter charges stemming from the death of a woman he shot while he was working undercover. He was indicted after shooting and killing Donna Castleberry, 23, as she sat in his unmarked police vehicle in August 2018. He said he acted in self-defense after she stabbed him in the hand during an undercover prostitution investigation. The jury in that trial reached its verdict after deliberating for about five hours. Mitchell faces up to 11 years on the three charges. Credit for time served could knock five years of the sentence. Under the terms of the plea deal, Mitchell will not have to register with the state as a sex offender.
Howdy. We have an unexpected update in the trial for Ruby Doss. The story doesn't end because this chapter does though. We'll keep our ear to the street on this one and see where the lawyer for the killer cop takes this.
SPOKANE, Wash. ā After four weeks, the trial of Richard Aguirre, the man accused of killing Ruby Doss, is over. On Tuesday, both the prosecution and Aguirre's defense team made their closing arguments. Much of the argument Tuesday and throughout trial revolved around DNA evidence. Prosecutors say Aguirre's DNA was found on a condom decades after Doss's death, linking him to the crime. Aguirre's defense, including through their one witness, argued the DNA evidence in this case is unreliable. Defense attorney Karen Lindholt argued investigators back in 1986 contaminated evidence, like the condom, by handling items without gloves. āContamination was so great that the DNA contributions on the red blouse were 35% from Ms. Doss and 61% from William Morig. So there was almost double the DNA contributed to Ruby Doss' blouse by Will Morig because he didn't properly handle the evidence, or should I say back in the 80s they didn't understand touch DNA and understand cross-contamination,ā Lindholt said.

Ruby Doss died from being strangled and hit on the head multiple times in January of 1986 , Spokane County's medical examiner testified Tuesday. Recounting how Doss was killed opened the second week of former Pasco police officer Richard Aguirre's murder trial. Retired police officers testified about how DNA evidence was handled, and a clerk at an adult book store testified about seeing Doss, who worked as a prostitute, the night of her death. Doss was 27 when she was found dead in a commercial area off Sprague Avenue not long after she was killed. Her death went unsolved for decades until Aguirre was connected to the case through DNA. Aguirre, now 59, faces one count of first-degree murder. Spokane County Medical Examiner Dr. Veena Singh reviewed Doss' autopsy because the pathologist who initially conducted the autopsy almost 38 years ago has since died.
The court heard he planned to seek out women to violently attack with a 17-inch sword after he was radicalized with misogynistic views online. He obtained the sword months before the attack and had it inscribed with a derogatory word for women and "slayer," court heard. On the day of the stabbing, he wore a long, dark coat and hat, and carried a note that said "long live the incel rebellion" inside a zip-close bag, court heard. Arzaga, who was working at reception, greeted him as a customer, court heard. The man stabbed her in the neck without warning and continued to stab her after she'd fallen to the ground.

A Los Angeles federal judge will hear arguments Wednesday regarding a formal extradition request from the Mexican government for a Downey man who is being held in connection with serial murders targeting Tijuana strip-club workers. U.S. Magistrate Judge Karen L. Stevenson previously ordered Bryant Rivera jailed without bond while extradition proceedings take place in downtown Los Angeles. Rivera, 30, was arrested in July at the request of Mexico on a femicide charge, authorities said. Femicide has been used to describe the current spate of violence against women in Mexico. Rivera is accused of murdering at least one sex worker in Tijuana. Mexico may add additional charges when prosecutors submit further extradition papers, according to a criminal complaint. Rivera allegedly beat and strangled Ćngela Acosta Flores to death on Jan. 24, 2022, in a room at Hotel Cascadas, next to the Hong Kong Gentlemen's Club in Zona Norte, a red light district in Tijuana, the complaint says. Late last year, Baja California Attorney General IvĆ”n Carpio SĆ”nchez described the then-unidentified killer of Flores and at least two other Tijuana sex workers as displaying "violent and psychopathic behavior" comparable to serial murderer Ted Bundy.

Some of the internet's biggest adult websites, including Pornhub, are now blocking access to Utah users over a new age verification law that takes effect on Wednesday. Pornhub and other adult sites controlled by its parent, MindGeek, began blocking visitors with Utah-based IP addresses this week. Now, instead of seeing adult content when visiting those sites, affected users are shown a message expressing opposition to SB287, the Utah law signed by Gov. Spencer Cox in March that creates liability for porn sites that make their content available to people below the age of 18. āAs you may know, your elected officials in Utah are requiring us to verify your age before allowing you access to our website,ā the message said. āWhile safety and compliance are at the forefront of our mission, giving your ID card every time you want to visit an adult platform is not the most effective solution for protecting our users, and in fact, will put children and your privacy at risk.ā The statement, accompanied by a video of an adult actor reading the message on-camera, added that the age verification requirement could drive users āto sites with far fewer safety measures.ā And it called for policymakers to āidentify users by their deviceā rather than by requiring them to upload their photo ID. āUntil a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our website in Utah,ā the message said, concluding with a call for Utahns to ādemand device-based verification solutionsā from policymakers.
