    24. What Do You Want and WHY?

    One of the most challenging parts I've identified while working with clients is having them define what they TRULY WANT and WHY. We all know we want a fulfilled, happy, present, and mindful life. However, can you truly say you know what that looks like? Can you truly tell me WHY you want that? This is a tricky question because we THINK we know WHY we want something. But, when it comes down to taking the aligned actions toward something, if that WHY isn't powerful enough or envisioned properly, those actions are much more difficult to commit to. A reason why we have trouble defining what we want is that we weren't asked in the past. We weren't used to defining our vision because we may have been operating in a state of survival. If we just needed to "go through the motions" there wasn't time (nor energy) to commit to anything else than that. So my love, if you're here to finally take back control of that meaningful life you crave, then you must ask yourself what you truly want and why. Keep that vision as WHY you commit to yourself and your goals. This past two weeks, with a foot injury, I had fallen into a phase of complete non-creativity.     How often have you felt or longed for something more? How often do you see your life as constricted, restricted, and tied to an "idea" of what should be? The only problem is, that "should be" is not yours. It isn't what you desire. It isn't the freedom to be. It isn't the creativity, the flow, the freedom, the laughter, the joy you crave. Don't I just know it?  For so long I had this feeling of being deeply misunderstood. "No one understands my desires, my dreams, how passionate I am, how much I want to make an impact. No one understands." And I yearned.  I craved. I dreamt. Why couldn't I see that these desires already exist? The freedom to be, the joy, the creativity - they were already there? I was just choosing not to notice. Can you choose to see through the lens of love and presence - so that those desires already exist within?     End of year, baby! Get out your journal and pen/pencil, my love!  In Part Two of this two-part series, I'm giving you the 5-step formula to setting heartfelt intentions in this new year. These intentions are without the pressure, without the rigidity, and WITH the REAL reasons for what you want.  I use a simple example, such as, “I want to lose weight this next year,” (a common one I hear often), and flip it into a driving force that has meaning, value, and positive impact.  We often think we want an outcome for the new year because of what our external world has taught us. But can we reflect on what we truly value? Can we reflect on how we will embody those values? Can we get rid of the need to  “remove this from our lives,” or “start this new habit,” and allow ourselves to BE what it is that already lives within us? Through a yogic lens, we will talk about setting Sankalpas for yourself as a way to flip your outcome-based goals into heartfelt resolutions.     Hey darling,   In Part One of this two part series, we are redefining what New Year's Resolutions mean for us. I am looking to reduce any pressure you have about setting up goals for yourself that continue to feed a narrative of needing to “do more.” Instead, we'll be talking about setting intentions for yourself in the new year that are heart-felt, purpose-based, and a way of BEING.   Around the holidays, on top of additional responsibilities and the stress of the season, there is pressure to reassess where your life is, look back on your year, and look to do MORE or PROVE more in the upcoming year. Instead, I am emphasizing the importance of rest and rejuvenation so that when you DO set your intentions, you aren't looking at a list that feels unrealistic, unachievable, disappointing, and anxiety-inducing.   Through a yogic-lens, we will talk about setting Sankalpas for yourself as a way to flip your outcome-based-goals into heartfelt resolutions.
