If you asked 10 people to define what hope is, you'd probably get 10 different definitions. We think we know what hope is, but do we really? Is hoping for something unrealistic? Are wishing and hoping the same thing? Can you manifest something into being through hope? These are just some of the questions Trudy and Lisa pose to University of Alberta Faculty of Education Associate Dean (Research) and professor Dr. Denise Larsen about her research into hope. Even if you're not a naturally hopeful person, Dr. Larsen tells us how we can build “hope skills” and how fostering hope in ourselves and others can change people, cities and communities for the better.Note: Dr. Larsen mentions an intervention activity conducted with international students. That activity was developed by University of Alberta Ph.D. candidate Chelsea Hobbs. Dr. Larsen also wished to acknowledge Dr. Doris Zhang.“Hope is a verb with its sleeves rolled up.” - David Orr Read our blog: CroneCast.caShare your questions and comments at cronecast.ca/contact. The unexpected power of limiting your choices: what Ben Franklin and a pescatarian can teach us. How “thin places” like Bhutan reveal truths about where (and who) you really are. In today's episode, John R. Miles explores the concept of choice bracketing, a powerful framework that shows how the seemingly small decisions we make every day can compound over time to significantly impact our future. Drawing on the real-life examples of Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffett, we discuss how big-picture thinking helps avoid reactive, short-term choices in favor of intentional actions that align with long-term goals. The episode breaks down the science of decision-making, focusing on how balancing short-term comfort with long-term success requires shifting from narrow, isolated choices to a broader, portfolio of choices approach. You'll learn how Bezos applied the regret minimization framework to launch Amazon and how Buffett's investment philosophy is rooted in viewing life through a long-term lens.Link to the full show notes: https://passionstruck.com/choice-bracketing-portfolio-of-choices/In this episode, you will learn:How choice bracketing helps shift from reactive to intentional decision-making.The compounding effect of small, daily choices over time. How Jeff Bezos used the regret minimization framework to make life-altering decisions.Warren Buffett's long-term approach to balancing short-term comfort with future gains. The importance of viewing your life as a portfolio of decisions.Practical strategies for aligning your choices with long-term goals in your career, health, and personal growth. How to balance immediate gratification with sustainable success through big-picture thinking.Sponsors:Babbel: Master a new language with Babbel's comprehensive learning system. At the end of Joseph's life, he is able to see his life from God's perspective. What man meant for evil, God meant for good. This is universally true of God's character, He works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
The image of Afghanistan that we tend to see in the news is one of constant conflict. But Toronto-based writer Jamaluddin Aram is out to show another side of life during wartime. His debut novel Nothing Good Happens in Wazirabad on a Wednesday showcases everyday life in an Afghan neighbourhood amid the country's civil war in the 1990s. He joins David Common to discuss how his own childhood in Kabul influenced the book, and why he wanted to show how life in Afghanistan is as full as anywhere else in the world.
In this episode, Dr. David Hanscom continues his discussion with Dr. Kirk Schneider, an integrative existential psychotherapist. He explains the principles and process of his integrative existential therapy practice. He begins by asking the client two questions: How are you presently living? And how are you willing to live? The first question allows the client to explore what is going on. The second question helps clients discover a more open, internally free domain. He focuses on what is most helpful for the client at the present time and invites the client to experience the issue in the body. As they establish trust with him, they can move from experiencing vulnerability to transcend the risk and experience life as an adventure. Dr. Kirk Schneider is a leading spokesperson for existential-humanistic and existential-integrative psychotherapy. He is an adjunct faculty at Saybrook University and Teachers College, Columbia University. He is also the author or coauthor of 14 books, including Existential-Humanistic Therapy (with Orah Krug), Awakening to Awe, and his most recent book Life-Enhancing Anxiety: Key to a Sane World. Today we're going deep, ya'll. My recent experience of witnessing a loved one's deep hopelessness at the end of life got me really grateful for my hope, fervency, and connection to both life and a sense of purpose. So today, we're reflecting on the question, how do you see life and purpose? More specifically, how would you define what it means to "live" or even live a "well-lived" life? What are your thoughts on purpose? Do you know yours? What does it mean to live in or on purpose? I'm sharing with you, what's important to me: experiences, love, peace, health, and purpose. For me, I chose purpose due to my own story, but we'll talk about that once you tap in. Let's stay connected! How many times have you said you felt like you got hit by a bus? Well, my guest today actually got hit by one, not the proverbial bus, an actual bus! Today I speak with Charlene Gethons a psychotherapist, mindfulness coach & brain injury survivor. Charlene's goal is to empower female entrepreneurs in creating sustainable businesses that fit their lifestyle, without letting imposter syndrome take over. Using mindfulness practices & therapeutic techniques, her clients learn how to trust themselves so that they can feel more confident in their work and in their decision making. Charlene has a pretty amazing story and has gained perspective, insight, and strategy for living more mindfully. In this episode we explore: Learning to bring yourself back to “in the moment thinking” vs catastro-fi-zing. Ideas about how someone can stop worrying about things they can't control?Managing our own expectations, and learning to be satisfied with what is vs what we thought it would be or should be? You've definitely heard us say this before...but we're going to say it again...STOP taking it all so seriously! What if you saw it all as a game? Where you are on a level, you are exactly where you are supposed to be, and you are currently just acquiring skills for the next level. And when you are ready, you will unlock the next level in exactly the right time. The catch? You have to keep playing the game! And seeing it this way. Do not let where you have been dictate where you are going. The world around you, your current circumstances, your current reality, has NO bearing or weight as to where you are going. The possibilities of the future are endless, so just keep playing the game. See yourself as a player with challenges, skills to build, doors to unlock and levels to complete. Everything is always working out for you. You are at the perfect level. Keep playing the game and before you know it, the next level will magically unlock and you will be ready to challenge the next level! As always, we wish you a life filled with joy and abundance, Sam & Micki--Becoming a Conscious Manifester - Now Available!!...AND our NEW Live Course launching January 11th, 2023 - How To Live a Purpose Driven Life - Get your seat for the live class today!Speaking Your Truth - How To Start An Aligned Podcast with Micki - Now Available!!Are you looking to LOVE YOUR LABOUR? We have all been on earth for a reason but we need to see ourselves how God sees us to be able to walk in His plan for our lives! We need to stop focusing on what we do not have and focus on what has been given to us. How you approach life totally depends on you but we should always allow God be the center of whatever choices we make.

How family affects us, plus what happens if Roe v. Wade is overturned, and should you have contact with an ex? Featured musical artist: Ginny Owens ( https://ginnyowens.com/ ) Roundtable: How Your Family of Origin Affected You (Part 2) Like it or not, we've all picked up patterns and proclivities from our family of origin. For some, what we learned was relatively good. For others, talking about our family background is painful. Our guests share the good, bad and ugly attitudes and habits they adopted from their families, as well as the lessons they've learned and the cycles they've broken by growing and changing. In part two this week, our panelists discuss where they are now in relation to their families as well as the lingering effects of their family systems. Culture: Abortion Laws in America & See Life 2022 Since the recent leak of the draft opinion from the Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization Supreme Court case, many Americans anticipate the possible reversal of Roe vs. Wade. If that happens, what are the legal implications? John Stonestreet and Robyn Chambers give us a primer on the ins and outs of this historic decision. They'll detail what we can expect, how we can pray, and will encourage us to value life not just through legislation but in everyday opportunities. We'll also talk about the exciting See Life 2022 scheduled for June 14, 2022.
