Terra Newell, the girl who killed Dirty John in self-defense, and Collier Landry, the kid who put his father in prison for killing his mother, have come together to promote ethical true crime. In each episode, they create a space for a survivor to share - in their own words - what happened to them. This is a show where you'll get to know the survivor for the person they are outside of the news story. Our goal is to make the true crime space better for survivors. Welcome to The Survivor Squad! For more information: https://www.thesurvivorsquad.com
The Survivor Squad podcast is an insightful and important show that tackles topics such as victim blaming and the just world hypothesis. Hosted by survivors Terra Newell and Collier Landry, this podcast provides a platform for survivors of trauma to share their stories and offers valuable resources and community for those who have experienced real-life trauma. Despite recent negative reviews from online trolls, it is evident that this podcast resonates with many listeners who appreciate the value it brings.
One of the best aspects of The Survivor Squad podcast is its unique approach to interviewing and interacting with other survivors. Unlike many true crime podcasts that focus solely on the crimes themselves, this show prioritizes the voices of survivors and empowers them to tell their own stories in their own way. Terra and Collier are empathetic hosts who create a safe space for guests to share their experiences, making it a truly valuable resource for anyone who has gone through trauma.
Unfortunately, there have been some criticisms regarding Collier's comments, suggesting that they could be more sensitive in their wording. While it is important to acknowledge different perspectives and ensure sensitivity when discussing traumatic experiences, it is also crucial to remember that this podcast provides a platform for survivors to share their stories authentically. It may be worth considering constructive feedback on how comments can be better framed while still allowing hosts to express themselves.
In conclusion, The Survivor Squad podcast stands out in the true crime genre by focusing on the trauma experienced by survivors of crime rather than solely sensationalizing the crimes themselves. Terra Newell and Collier Landry bring unique perspectives as survivors themselves, offering empathy, support, and resources for those navigating trauma. Despite recent controversies surrounding the hosts, it is clear that this podcast continues to make a positive impact on listeners' lives.

Uldouz Wallace is a survivor of the 2014 iCloud Hack/Leak; her private images and a video were hacked by a predator who later auctioned & leaked them to the internet, which later was shared on all the adult sites without her consent and completely taking away her basic human rights. This horrifying set of events completely destroyed her bright future to success. Through experience, Uldouz realized the imbalance between technology and the current laws and how they need to be updated to protect the future of children, women & men. That's when she decided to change the law, she reached out to several senators and nonprofit organizations and created The Protect Act Bill, which senator Mike Lee introduced, she testified at Capitol Hill and is currently an Advisor for the White House Task Force regarding Image Based Sexual Abuse, and she also started her nonprofit 501(c)3 Foundation Ra and the movement #protectmyimage to help victims of image & video based abuse with resources like free takedown services, therapy, law enforcement, lawyers and to know your rights and more. **For Ad-Free Episodes, Join Our Patreon! ** https://www.patreon.com/thesurvivorsquad This is part two of our two-part interview with Crystal Hefner. At just twenty-one years old, Crystal Harris' life changed forever when she attended a party at the notorious Playboy mansion. Picked out of the crowd by Hugh Hefner, she became one of his infamous “girlfriends,” attending glamorous Hollywood parties and traveling the world. Yet this seemingly alluring lifestyle had a dark side. Hef controlled his girlfriends with strict rules regarding everything from their hair and makeup to their curfews, and Crystal was forced to compete with other women for her spot in the highly hierarchical system. Living at the mansion, she felt more like a fixture than a resident. She quickly rose to the top, but being Hef's number-one girlfriend came at the cost of Crystal's identity outside her role in the Playboy universe. Her fate seemed sealed when Hef surprised her with a marriage proposal she could not imagine refusing. But as Crystal Hefner, she grew increasingly restless to understand who she truly was away from what she saw as Playboy's toxic culture. In her new book ONLY SAY GOOD THINGS, Crystal offers a vulnerable and clear-eyed look at how her experience with Hugh Hefner catalyzed her transformative journey from someone who prized external validation over all else to a person who finally recognizes her true worth. This candid memoir provides a fascinating look behind the scenes at a powerful cultural icon and brand and an equally empowering perspective on hard-won lessons about who we allow to determine our value. This is Part Two of our two-part interview with Anna Nasset. Anna Nasset, a victim/survivor of stalking for the last decade, has firsthand experience with how to identify and respond to stalking, which has led her to become an international speaker on the subject. She has trained thousands of professionals, students, and military members on the importance of recognizing stalking, getting help, and advocating for oneself and others. Anna is one of the very few people who can speak openly about her experience after the man who stalked her received the maximum sentence for aggravated felony stalking-ten years in prison-in 2019. This is one of the longest-known sentences for this crime in U.S. history. As an activist and the owner of Stand Up Resources, Anna works with law enforcement, victim service agencies, universities, and other organizations to be part of the solution. We want to encourage you to post a photo of you and/or your team sparkling against stalking! Audience note: Charlie Adelson was convicted in the murder-for-hire plot of his brother-in-law, Dan Markel, on Monday, November 6, 2023. Adelson had solicited two men, Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, connected to the Latin Kings gang, to murder Markel. He was introduced to the men by his former girlfriend, Katherine “Katie” Magbanua, who is also incarcerated for her role in the murder-for-hire plot. The same charges have now been filed against Charlie and Wendi's mother, Donna Adelson, as she was caught trying to flee the country to Vietnam on a one-way ticket on Monday, November 13, 2023. On Tuesday, November 14th, the grand jury returned an indictment for first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, and solicitation to commit first-degree murder. These are the same charges for which her son, Charlie Adelson, was convicted last week. About Ruth Markel: Ruth Markel's tenacious fight for justice on behalf of the murder of her son, Dan Markel, a noted law professor who was murdered in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2014, and the struggle to be legally reunited with her grandchildren. ** For Ad-Free Episodes, Join Our Patreon! ** https://www.patreon.com/thesurvivorsquad This is part two of a two-part interview with Jane Boroski. In August 1988, 22-year-old Jane Boroski was seven months pregnant and thirsty after spending hours in the summer heat at the county fair near Swanzey, New Hampshire. She pulled over in an empty parking lot to slip some pocket change into a vending machine outside a convenience store that had closed for the night. She was then attacked, being stabbed 27 times by the Connecticut River Valley serial killer. She ultimately survived the attack along with her then-unborn child. The Connecticut River Valley Killer was never brought to justice, and she may have also been his final victim. Boroski now has a podcast called "Invisible Tears" and is actively advocating for justice for her fellow Connecticut River Valley victims and the families in other unsolved cases across the state. Jane also recounts her harrowing story on the newly released Dark Valley podcast. Dark Valley podcast: linktr.ee/darkvalleyshow.
