Jean got through today's crossword in her usual expeditious manner, while Mike-- puzzled by the fact that the answer to 31A, Emergency room concern, was TRAUMA rather than PROOFOFINSURANCE -- had to go EXTRAINNINGS before he could LASSO a victory.
The toughest crossword of the week lives up to its billing, with a bottom right corner that was a real HAIRRAISER. Both Jean and Mike had to dig for 39D, Rogues, PICAROS (not (Jean thought) GIGOLOS, or (Mike thought) PIRATES). That ran into another poser, 53A, Entry point in the walls of Babylon, ISHTARGATE. Meanwhile in other parts of the puzzle, the author didn't ease off, FARFROMIT, but had enough HORSESENSE to up the levity quotient as in 17A, Start of a nudge, DONTFORGET, and 31A, Spot to have a look sea?, CROWSNEST. Dana Cavalea: “It requires you to do things that the average person doesn't do. It encourages you and forces you to be somebody that's different than everybody else, because champions are different than everybody else. You have to act different, be different, present yourself different, and when you do those things, you get different results than everybody else, which is what champions do, which is what high performers do.”19:20The championship mentality is not just effective for athletes either, it plays big in the business and investment world as well. So many of the people Dana works with in the business world have a life changing event, like a heart attack, or something, that forces them to work on the mental and physical side of their health.26:40The idea of work/life balance from the lens of Dana’s work. Dana believes it’s important to compartmentalize your day and own their schedules.Dana Cavalea: “Own your schedule, own your day, own your life.” 29:40What made Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and the Yankees legends that Cavalea was working with different? This podcast includes discussions on: Key Item - Approach the Board with a Business Risk approach rather than a technical approach. (with how to know Business Risk, examples and discussion on how to do this) Board addressing risk of reputation damage due to a cyber attack. How much cybersecurity expertise does the Board need? Should there be a "Cybersecurity Director"? What level of detail does the Board need related to cyber security controls? How does one deal with the Board Member who has locked in to a specific control, product or solution that didn't make sense for the company? Could the SEC requiring specific cybersecurity disclosures create regulatory risk that would force the companies subject to these disclosures to take action? How is and should a Board of Directors act to deal with COVID-19? I do chime in with my views more often than a typical podcast as dealing with Executive Management and Boards is something I've been doing quite a bit the last five years. My favorite quote from Thomas: It is so easy to do good things, but there not the most important things. Or there not the most effective things. Or the money is being spent, but not on reducing the most material risks in the business.
