This week, Mary and Andrew follow the money from Alabama to New York to Southern Florida. They start with an 11-count indictment against the Southern Poverty Law Center alleging financial crimes and defrauding donors — the DOJ suggesting that the center's goal was to give funding to extremist groups rather than to report on them. The co-hosts find the charges dubious at best, with a speaking indictment that seems “weak” and lacks specifics. From there, they analyze another set of charges out of the SDNY against an Army soldier who won over $400,000 in online bets using his classified knowledge of the US capture of Nicolas Maduro. After reviewing the merits of that case, they head to Miami, where President Trump's civil suit against the IRS was put on pause to discern how to handle him being on both sides of the case. As Mary notes, the judge is asking Trump to essentially “show me we really have adverse parties here.”Then to DC, for a look at the charges filed against the alleged gunman in the White House Correspondents' Dinner shooting, and how the administration quickly used that as another reason to build the White House ballroom in an unusual court filing. Indeed, Trump himself was the only one who was federally indicted for 2020 election manipulations, making the most immediate legal effect of these pardons unclear. What is Trump trying to accomplish in issuing them? In May 2007, as part of the federal investigation into Epstein's sex trafficking, the FBI planned to arrest him while he was judging a beauty pageant in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The move was highly strategic: they had gathered evidence and believed the event would provide an opportunity to act. However, prosecutors in the U.S. Attorney's Office in Southern Florida intervened and blocked the plan, deciding not to approve the indictment at that time. They delayed the case, and Epstein remained free for a longer period before ultimately negotiating the non-prosecution agreement instead of facing full federal charges.This beauty pageant episode has become emblematic of the deeper problems in how Epstein was handled: prosecutors overruling agents, delays in approving charges, and the decision to settle for a plea that many say let Epstein off too lightly. Supporters of the victims argue that had the plan to arrest Epstein at the pageant moved forward, it might have prevented further abuse and revealed more of the network of accomplices earlier on. But how do they get there, and how difficult can it be? Enter social media influencer Nicole de la Cruz. Nicole de la Cruz is a Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, filmmaker, actress and TikTok Content Creator with over 460K Followers and 350 Million Views. Nicole spent her childhood in Southern Florida where she discovered her passion for music and the arts. In 2015, she moved to Los Angeles to further her artistic career. Her style of music is pop/rock similar to an early Kelly Clarkson. Nicole is best known for her TikTok account (@nicolemariedlc), in which she posts creative acting skits and her music. She is also known for her music video Moonstruck (2021), produced by Reign Productions in partnership with New Atlantis Media, which has garnered over half a million views to date on Youtube.
