In a shocking move, Colorado Governor Jared Polis granted clemency to Brandon Kreutzer, a man who was convicted of a crime spree that included multiple burglaries, armed robbery, and a high-speed chase where he and his co-defendant took shots at police officers. One of the bullets hit a deputy's windshield, while the other struck the deputy, who miraculously survived. This episode delves into the details of Kreutzer's case and the governor's decision to commute his sentence. The District Attorney of the 23rd Judicial District, George Brauchler, joins the conversation to share his perspective on the matter. He explains that Kreutzer's co-defendant, received a 45-year sentence, while Kreutzer himself was given 50 years. Brauchler expresses his outrage over the governor's decision, citing several inaccuracies in the justification provided. Brauchler points out that the governor's office based their decision on incorrect information, including a claim that Maudy was six months younger than Kreutzer, which is actually true, but the implication that Maudy received a lighter sentence is false. He also highlights the governor's lack of understanding of the criminal justice system and the laws that govern it. Tune in to this episode to hear the full conversation and learn more about the complexities of the case and the governor's decision.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Guest Bios:Brittanny Kreutzer started The Speaker Exchange Agency with a background in sales and a love for the speaking industry. She was given a taste of the speaking industry while interning in college for Nancy Lauterbach, a past speakers bureau owner. Upon graduation from college she began a successful career selling radio space and developing radio campaigns for CBS Radio in Kansas City; however, after a few years the excitement of the speaking industry drew her back in. After working at a speakers bureau for several years and becoming one of the top sales executives, she took a break to spend time with her newborn baby Madison. The love she has for this industry struck again and after only a short month's break, Brittanny combined forces with her past colleague and friend, Julie Homsey, to create The Speaker Exchange Agency, LLC. Jeff Bigelow joined SpeakInc in 1995, became Partner in 1996, and with over seventeen years of experience in the industry, still loves what he does. Jeff is a graduate of California State University of Northridge with a B.A. in Radio, Television, Film. At SpeakInc he works both in the corporate market, as well as the association market and is actively involved in the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). Outside of his time in the office, Jeff can be found relaxing at the nearest beach or swinging the clubs on one of Southern California's amazing golf courses. What brings him the most joy, of course, is spending time with his wife, Denise, and daughter, Faith.Takeaways:There are a lot more speakers now, requiring more time to review information. The buying cycle for clients has dramatically shortened.Clients are increasingly using AI tools like ChatGPT to find speakers.Understanding the psychology of the audience is crucial for speaker selection.Pre-booking calls have become more common and important.Speakers should provide valuable information, not just check-ins.Top speakers maintain strong communication and relationships with agents.Speaker fees have increased, but value should not be tied solely to fees.AI is a growing topic of interest in the speaking industry. The human element in the speaking industry remains irreplaceable.Chapters:00:00 - The Evolution of the Speaking Industry03:01 - Shifts in Client Expectations05:57 - Understanding the Buying Process09:02 - The Role of Tone and Style in Speaker Selection12:01 - The Importance of Pre-Booking Calls15:12 - Staying Top of Mind in a Crowded Market19:01 - Understanding Speaker Engagement and Connection22:19 - The Top 5% of Speakers: What Sets Them Apart25:17 - Navigating Speaker Fees in a Changing Economy30:15 - The Impact of AI on the Speaking Industry34:00 - The Future of the Speaking Industry: Human Element vs. Technology35:35 - What We Love and Hate About the Speaking IndustryResourcesLearn more about Brittanny Kreutzer:WebsiteLinkedInLearn more about Jeff Bigelow:WebsiteLinkedInLearn more about Josh Linkner:WebsiteYouTubeLinkedInInstagramXFacebookABOUT MIC DROP:Hear from the world's top thought leaders and experts, sharing tipping point moments, strategies, and approaches that led to their speaking career success. There's been a lot of debate about what the relationship should be between videographic criticism and writing. Some have wondered if video essays could function as stand-alone scholarship and break free from having to be framed by text-based explanations such as creator statements or peer reviews. But even if one acknowledges the role of writing in advancing videographic scholarship, another question emerges: which writing? At this year's SCMS annual meeting in Boston, videographic scholars Evelyn Kreutzer and Alan O'Leary observed that several video essay presentations would cite texts from feminist film studies, genre film studies, global film studies, etc. But there wasn't so much reference to existing writing about videographic scholarship. And it got them thinking, why aren't videographic scholars giving more attention to writing about video essays? Haven't there been examples of written scholarship that are worth referencing, in shaping our thinking about the form? Is it that they aren't known well enough or established enough to be cited? And how can we start to get a better appreciation of the role of writing in video essay scholarship? Evelyn and Alan recorded this conversation to get into these questions. Evelyn asked Alan to come up with two written essays that could be especially helpful in understanding videographic scholarship. Alan came up with about 6 or 7, which can be found in the show notes. From those they picked two to discuss in depth, leading to a rich and contentious conversation about what scholars want from video essays, and what role writing has in determining the answers to that question. This episode is the sixth in an ongoing collaboration between The Video Essay Podcast and "The Video Essay: Memories, Ecologies, Bodies," a three-year research project on video essays led by Kevin B. Vor der Sommerpause verabschieden sich eure Leichtgaglethen, die SamstagsCrasher Stefan Kreutzer und Sebastian Schaffstein, mit der kuriosesten aus der Woche und vor allem aus Olympia.
Laura Kreutzer is one of the longest tenured reporters in Private Equity. A scholarship student who earned her way into some of the most prestigious educational institutions, Laura has brought keen insight, deep understanding, and a warm personality to her coverage of the ever-changing asset class. On this episode of Press Profiles – live from Laura's home city of Boston – we talk about her vast reporting experiences, and she takes us behind the scenes of the Wall Street Journal's Pro Private Equity offering. We also discuss what it was like to study in China during the Tiananmen Square protests, what it takes to be a good manager, her unique hobbies including metalsmithing (and her love of blow torches) and, of course, a whole lot more.
Sebastian "Schaffi" Schaffstein braucht dringend Hilfe!

Synopsis On today's date in 1803, violinist George Polgreen Bridgetower, age 33, and pianist and composer Ludwig van Beethoven, age 32, gave the first performance in Vienna of a new Sonata in A Major for Violin and Piano, a chamber work now regarded as one of Beethoven's greatest. At the first rehearsal, Bridgetower had to read from Beethoven's manuscript score – no easy task considering Beethoven's poor penmanship – and at one point felt compelled to improvise a passage, which so enchanted Beethoven that he added Bridgetower's improvisation to his score. In fact, the two young men became fast friends, and were inseparable for a time. Bridgetower was an English violin virtuoso born in Poland of a European mother and an African father. His Viennese friendship with Beethoven came to a sudden end, Bridgetower later claimed, when the two men became interested in the same young lady. And so, even though it should be known as the Bridgetower Sonata, when this music was published as Beethoven's Op. 47, Beethoven dedicated the music to another contemporary virtuoso, a French violinist named Kreutzer, who apparently never performed it. Despite that fact, to this day, the work is known as Beethoven's Kreutzer Sonata. Music Played in Today's Program Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) Violin Sonata No. 9, Op. 47 (Kreutzer) Pamela Frank, violin; Claude Frank, piano MusicMasters 67087

This week on the Film at Lincoln Center podcast, we're featuring a special conversation from our recent sneak preview screening of Corsage with director Marie Kreutzer and lead Vicky Krieps. In a perceptive, nuanced performance, Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread) quietly dominates the screen as Empress Elizabeth of Austria, who begins to see her life of royal privilege as a prison as she reaches her fortieth birthday. Marie Kreutzer boldly imagines Elizabeth's cloistered, late-19th-century world within the Austro-Hungarian Empire with both austere realism and fanciful anachronism, while staying true and intensely close to the woman's private melancholy and political struggle amidst a crumbling, combative marriage and escalating scrutiny. Star and director have together created a remarkable vision of a strong-willed political figure whose emergence from a veiled, corseted existence stands for a Europe on the cusp of major, irrevocable transformation. Corsage, an official selection of the 60th New York Film Festival, is now playing in our theaters. Get showtimes and tickets at filmlinc.org/corsage
Marie Kreutzer is one of Austria's most important and established filmmakers. Her new movie, Corsage, probes the inner life of Empress Elizabeth of Austria-Hungary, an iconic figure in 19th-century history. She's been represented many times on screen, most recently in a Netflix series called "The Empress." Opening this month, Corsage has already garnered enthusiastic reviews and earned a Best Actress Award for its star, Vicky Krieps, at Cannes. Eleanor Wachtel spoke to Marie Kreutzer when the film screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last September.
You might be thinking, "Why on earth would anyone want to devote an entire podcast to etudes?" For most instrumentalists, etudes are the bane of our existence. They are studies, meant to develop technique on an instrument. Etudes are an essential part of any instrumentalists work, but they had never been known for their musical content. As a violinist, I had practiced dozens of etudes by Kreutzer, Rodé, Dancla, Sevcik, Schraideck, Kayser, Mazas, and more, lamenting the day I chose the violin as my instrument. But pianists have the same dreaded names, like Czerny for example. Chopin changed all of that. Chopin was the first composer to integrate musical content into his etudes, which meant that Chopin's etudes were both extremely difficult technical exercises, but they also were musically interesting enough to be performed live. LIke everything Chopin did on the piano, this was revolutionary, and Chopin's 27 etudes have been part of the piano repertoire ever since. We'll discuss some of these etudes today, along with the nature of virtuosity itself. We'll also spend a lot of time talking about Leopold Godowsky. Leopold Godowsky is not a name you've probably heard very often. But he was one of the great pianists of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, with legions of admirers including legendary pianists like Josef Hoffman, Arthur Rubinstein, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Claudio Arrau, and the composer Ferrucio Busoni. Godowsky's pianistic gifts were well known, but what about his compositional ones? Well, to speak of one is to speak of the other. During the 1890s, when Godowsky was in his late 20s, he began making arrangements of famous piano works of Chopin and other composers music. Over the next 20 years, he became engrossed with Chopin's legendary etudes, or studies, and began writing his own arrangements of them. Now Chopin's etudes are extremely difficult just on their own, but Godowsky's studies are on another level of difficulty. In fact, Godowsky's transcriptions are so difficult that many pianists don't even dare to play them, though some, like the great Marc-Andre Hamelin, have made them an integral part of their repertoire. So today on the show, we'll take a look at some of the studies on Chopin's etudes, analyzing both the original Chopin etudes and then the changes that Godowsky makes to them. This will be a show as much about Chopin as it is about Godowsky, because you can't understand Godowsky's achievement without understanding the Chopin first. Join us!
