Ryan and Dustin are back with another episode of "No Credentials Required," diving into the world of sports with their signature casual flair. They kick things off with fantasy baseball strategies, as Ryan shares his return to the league after a decade away. Catchers are his top picks, with Adley Rutchman and William Contreras leading the charge. Then, it's time for a spirited debate on MLB Opening Day: Is it the games in Japan or the traditional US start that truly marks the season's beginning? Next up, NFL free agency takes center stage. The duo dissects the hefty contracts of Ja.Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, pondering the pressure on Joe Burrow. Plus, Cam Heyward's blunt take on Aaron Rodgers' potential move to the Steelers sparks a lively discussion. Finally, they pay tribute to athletes who wore the number 20. Dustin highlights Jorge Posada's impact on the Yankees, while Ryan reflects on Barry Sanders' legendary career and the "what if" of his early retirement. September 3, 2009 — Yankee Catcher, Jorge Posada hit his 20th homer of the season and drove in four runs to help New York beat Toronto 7-5. Posada's homer gave New York a major league-leading seven players with at least 20 dingers. The '09 Yankees are the only team in franchise history to accomplish this feat. Only the '96 Orioles, the 2000 Blue Jays and the '05 Rangers have been able to collect 20 home runs from 7 players in a single season. No National league team has yet to reach that milestone.September 3, 2008 — Baseball's first use of instant replay is used to support an on field call of a home run during the ninth inning of the Yankee-Tampa Bay Devil Rays contest. Third-base umpire Brian Runge signaled a home run after A-Rod's towering two-run shot off Troy Percival caromed off the catwalk behind the foul pole in left field. Rays catcher Dioner Navarro protested the call bringing manager Joe Maddon out of the dugout. The umpires convened before leaving the field to check the replay on a monitor; 2 minutes and 15 seconds later they upheld the homer giving the Yankees an 8-3 lead.September 3, 2007 — Pedro Martinez pitches his way back from major shoulder surgery and quickly into the record books. Needing just two strike outs to become only the 15th pitcher to strike out 3,000 batters in his career he fanned Aaron Harang with an 87-mph fastball as the Mets posted a 10-4 win over Cincinnati.September 3, 2006 — Ryan Howard homered in his first three at-bats, leading Philadelphia to an 8-7 victory over Atlanta in the first game of a doubleheader. Howard raised his major league-leading total to 52 and set a record for second-year players.September 3, 2006 — Albert Pujols homers in his first three at-bats, helping St. Louis beat Pittsburgh 6-3. Pujols, with 42 homers, reached 40 or more for the fourth straight season.

The New York Yankees could have Bryce Harper, and Harper was on the Pat McAfee show on ESPN talking about how he grew up a Yankee fan and idolized guys like Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, and Derek Jeter. But the Yankees, according to GM Brian Cashman, already had six outfielders and didn't need Bryce Harper at the start of the 2019 season. So Steve and Stacey played a game of what if. What if the Yankees did get Bryce Harper? Which subsequent moves wouldn't have been made? Which trades wouldn't have happened? How would the Yankees have performed in the playoffs from 2019-2022 if Bryce Harper was a Yankee? Then, they discuss an article written by Joel Sherman, who compares the current-day Houston Astros to the dynasty-era New York Yankees. Is he right? Stacey tries not to get sick when comparing the two teams. And finally, the Astros are taking on the Texas Rangers in the ALCS, and Jordan Montgomery pitched a gem for the Rangers. Montgomery has been pitching well so far in October for the Rangers. Are Yankee fans happy for him? Stacey is. Then Stacey and Steve discuss the NLCS and how they think it will go. THE GODFATHER: PART TRUMP A-Block (1:46) SPECIAL COMMENT: Remember the baptism scene in "The Godfather"? Where Michael has everybody whacked? Metaphorically, that was Trump's Wednesday - only he was ALL 10 GUYS WHO GOT WHACKED. His Appeals Court appointees let the DOJ resume its investigation, declare declassification irrelevant (4:02) Trump replies to Spokesmodel Sean Hannity that he could declassify documents just "by thinking about it" - BLINK ONE FOR CLASSIFIED, BLINK TWO FOR DECLASSIFIED. But the judges just said declassification is a red herring. (5:30) NY AG James' lawsuit may hurt Trump more personally because he's accused of not being THAT rich, and needing to be THAT rich is perhaps Trump's only human emotion (7:30) Two other court cases for Trump (7:52) and maybe one coming for Ron DeSantis (8:40) And Trump Endorsee J.R. Majewski grabs what used to be the Third Rail of Politics: Lying about your military service. He didn't fight in Afghanistan; he loaded cargo in Qatar. We'll hear him recount his ordeal in Afghanistan that he didn't have. B-Block (14:31) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Koley (15:34) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: The Electoral Count Act, McCarthy Suffers Premature Jocularity, Tucker Carlson slanders the wrong Ontario teacher, the World Bank boss is a climate crisis denier, and Contagious Defenestration continues even as Russia destabilizes (18:31) IN SPORTS: Buster Posey becomes management, Dayton Moore becomes ex-management, and why Aaron Judge's 60 Homers are not comparable to Babe Ruth's 60 Homers (like McGwire's 70 Homers were not comparable to Ruth's 60) (22:41) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Politicians walk out of Greg Norman's pitch for the Saudi Blood Money Golf Tour and he competes with Ted Cruz and the NBA for the honors. C-Block (27:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Sunday it'll be 16 years since a guy sent me, at my home, an envelope he claimed was full of anthrax. New year, new you? Well, we'll let you decide whether or not these rituals are worth adopting in 2022. .................... 1. Who are we to argue with one of the best NBA (National Basketball Association) players ever to play the game when it comes to wine consumption? Wine lover LeBron James believes in drinking wine every day. He said, "Listen, I'm playing the best basketball of my life, and I'm drinking some wine pretty much every day. Whatever it is, I'll take it." 2. Sleep seems like the first thing to go with so much on our plates. Well, that's probably the only reason we're not professional athletes. From skier Lindsey Vonn to tennis player Roger Federer to the world's fastest man, runner Usain Bolt, they all stress the importance of eight-plus hours of sleep to recharge. (Bolt sleeps 8-10 hours a night and takes a nap). Did you know that Tom Brady (NFL) nearly missed a Super Bowl when he fell asleep in front of his locker during the pregame? 3. Exercise is critical in keeping your stress levels low, and no surprise, yoga is a fan favorite for athletes across all sports. Yoga has been a mainstay for athletes from the NFL's Aaron Rodgers to the Seattle Seahawks (NFL) to LeBron James to Kevin Love (NBA). When learning yoga, former Los Angeles Clippers (NBA) player Jordan Farmar said, "I thought it was something that girls did. It couldn't hurt, and if I didn't like it, well, I still got to go on a nice trip and see what Tahiti was like." 4. Serena Williams has a packed schedule between her tennis career, fashion line, multiple businesses, and a family. So how does she keep her sanity? Apps. Her favorite is Toggl, an app that helps track her time, breaking down what percentage of each day goes to the three significant areas in her life: her family, her businesses and tennis. She admits to Fast Company that she has adopted a new appreciation for tech since marrying tech founder Alexis Ohanian. However, she still relies on everyday apps like Zoom and Slack to coordinate her work and Zero to track her eating habits. 5. In the "do not try this at home" category, try a little urine if your hands are worn down from typing on the computer all day. Yes, you read that correctly. Baseball greats like Moises Alou and Jorge Posada made their hands gameday ready by peeing on them. Honorable mention: Brooklyn Nets (NBA) star Kyrie Irving is known for his abstract ideas, like vehemently defending his theory that the world is flat. But one ritual he does before every game (if the away team allows him to) that you might be able to borrow is that he burns sage or "smudges" the court to clear the energy. That might come in handy when he returns to the court on January 5 after being out since the beginning of the season. He will still only be able to play at away games as the unvaccinated Irving is unable to play at home games in Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

As the strength and conditioning coach for the Yankees for parts of three decades, Jeff Mangold was firmly embedded in building the dynasty of the 1990s and 2000s. Mangold had a front-row seat to the daily drama of Steinbrenner's revolving door of managers—Yogi Berra, Billy Martin, and Lou Piniella—during his first stint with the team in the 1980s. Then, when he returned to the Yankees in 1998, he joined a juggernaut of a team and was tasked with maintaining the health of a star-studded roster including Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera. Yankees fans will not want to miss Power and Pinstripes: My Years Training the New York Yankees, which gives readers a unique perspective on the franchise during one of baseball's most exciting and controversial eras. About the Author: Jeff Mangold served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the New York Yankees from 1984 to 1988 and from 1998 to 2006. During his tenure, the Bronx Bombers won nine straight American League East titles, appeared in five World Series, and won three World Series championships in 1998, 1999, and 2000. Peter Botte has been writing about New York sports for over 30 years, covering the Yankees, Knicks, and Islanders. He currently writes for the New York Post. He is the author of The Big 50: The Men and Moments That Made the New York Yankees, published by Triumph Books in April 2020. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/steve-richards/support
Kevin reviews his bracket’s performance headed into the final weekend of March Madness, and helps us preview the Final Four (52:21). Athlete CEO Podcast How to Coach and How to Be CoachedWhat makes Derek Jeter who he is? What made him great? Coach Dana Cavalea is the former Director of Strength & Conditioning and Performance for the New York Yankees. He joins Brandon and Erik Averill on Athlete CEO to discuss what goes into a “Championship Mindset” and why mental balance is a key for success regardless of business or profession. Guest: Dana Cavalea“Habits of a Champion”Twitterhttps://danacavalea.com/ 2:12Define what is performance and how Dana would define being a champion.Dana Cavalea “You need to be better tomorrow than you are today.”3:01There is no one size fits all. You have to know what works for you. You don’t enhance performance by taking a pill or vitamin once, you get better over time by doing the right things. 4:40“Performance Coach” or “Life Coach” seem to be modern buzzwords. Dana describes his journey and what led him to becoming a life coach, which starts with interning for free with the New York Yankees while in college at the University of Southern Florida.6:26After Dana figured out he wasn’t going to be a professional ballplayer, he followed his passion of training and getting ready for the season, and investigated ways he could make that into a profession.9:25When Dana learned how you can literally go from one side of the fence to the other side of the fence in 24 hours. He had to make some significant sacrifices at the age of 19 that many others that age wouldn’t be willing to make, in order to fulfill his dream of being involved with the New York Yankees.11:17How did Dana end up becoming the Yankees head performance coach at just 23 years old.12:45Dana says he didn’t really know anything about the job he had, that he was just getting started, but he did recognize the importance of truly knowing people and caring about people. Dana Cavalea “Life is bar it’s your job to tend it.”14:18Dana saw an opportunity after starting off as a trainer to become an asset manager of human capital and he came up with a “Player Profile” that became a screening process to identify risk16:19The idea of the growth mindset or a “Champions’ Mindset” and how Cavalea incorporates that into his training and evaluation. Dana Cavalea: “It requires you to do things that the average person doesn't do. It encourages you and forces you to be somebody that's different than everybody else, because champions are different than everybody else. You have to act different, be different, present yourself different, and when you do those things, you get different results than everybody else, which is what champions do, which is what high performers do.”19:20The championship mentality is not just effective for athletes either, it plays big in the business and investment world as well. So many of the people Dana works with in the business world have a life changing event, like a heart attack, or something, that forces them to work on the mental and physical side of their health.26:40The idea of work/life balance from the lens of Dana’s work. Dana believes it’s important to compartmentalize your day and own their schedules.Dana Cavalea: “Own your schedule, own your day, own your life.” 29:40What made Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera and the Yankees legends that Cavalea was working with different? Amazingly, it’s that they weren’t “overworking.”38:00 The identity crisis all professional athletes go through when they’re no longer professional athletes. What are Dana’s tips on trying to figure out the next stage of your life?39:10Don’t identify with a title, identify with a process. If you subscribe to that belief you are going to be defied by the processes you undergo everyday.41:28Dana Cavalea on the importance of values and processes.Dana: “When you get too attached or the title of what you do, it becomes really dangerous, because you lose the rest of you and without the rest of you, you lose your edge.”44:02As a coach you have to meet people where they are, because every person is different.48:09Dana has also written children’s books about raising championship families and how we have to understand that we are constantly growing as people. 50:02One of the most important lessons Dana learned about parenting and how to be a champion parent.Dana Cavalea: “You can override their difficulty through your own surrender. Don’t try to control and dominate. Release and surrender.”52:31A great story from Dana about his relationship with Mariano Rivera and what made him special in terms of elite performance in the biggest moments. It was an eventful week: The Yankees were swept at home by Tampa. Zack Britton was placed on the IL and Gleyber Torres and James Paxton went for MRIs. Aaron Boone made some terrible managerial decisions. Luke Voit hit a lot of home runs but struck out in his biggest at bat of the week. The Yankees struggled to hit with runners in scoring position. JA Happ complained about being skipped in the rotation. Jorge Posada lied about his age. Baseball freaked out about unwritten rules. Oh, and the Yankees-Mets game on Friday was canceled due to COVID. With the Boston Red Sox down 0-3 to the New York Yankees in the 2004 ALCS, even the most fanatical fan in Southie wouldn't have predicted a comeback. Years and years of frustration, defeat, and ineffectiveness appeared to be nine innings away from adding another chapter to this storied franchise's futility. But the unlikely happened. Over the course of four games, the trajectory of two prestigious sports franchises was altered. The improbable championship began on October 17, 2004, when the Red Sox faced another elimination game against the rival Yankees. After losing 19-8 a day earlier, the writing seemed to be on the wall for Boston. The Yankees were on the verge of their 7th World Series appearance in nine years while the Red Sox were about to be eliminated in the ALCS at the hands of Joe Torre, Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Bernie Williams for the third time in six years. On this episode of Distant Replay, we go back to that cool October night and rewatch FOX's broadcast of this ALCS game 4. It's as unlikely now as it was then and we'll take you through it all. If you want to watch the game in its entirety, check out our show notes here: https://distantreplaypodcast.com/?p=246 Check us out on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYJazLhxFKGpM4Yge-DuxTg
So Max Kellerman NHL isn't one of the four major sports? Linda Cohn glad that pissed you off. Nothing beats playoff hockey. Jake Fromm another QB who had to apologize to his Bill teammates for a racist tweet from last year. Would he be apologizing if he hadn't been caught? And would an African American player been given a second chance for the same infraction? Yankees dynasty included a shortstop from Panama who switched to pitching and became a HOF, Mariano Rivera. He was signed for $2,000.

5-9-2020 Passed Ball Show. John talks about the Yankees’ Core Four and how criminal is the neglect of Bernie Williams. Outside of Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera, there was no more impactful Yankees player from 1996-2000. Any mention of Core Four without Bernie disrespects the player who traced back the team to the Stump Merrill days. In fact, before the significance of Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada can be brought up, Paul O’Neill and Timo Martinez need to be mentioned. John then talks about the upcoming MLB Draft and the decision to reduce the 40 rounder to just five rounds. That means that around 1050 players will not get selected this year. Perhaps the draft needed to be reduced, but five rounds will likely ruin lives, but also sets in place the reduction of minor league baseball teams and leagues. A wise team would load up on minor league free agents that missed out on being selected during the five round draft. The goal should be to sign those players before the ones that were drafted. John then talks about Craig Hodges and his decision to make a statement to the President during the Chicago Bulls’ visit to the White House after their second straight NBA Championship in 1992. Hodges did not make a statement that was out of line, however, as the 12th man on the Bulls team, it took attention away from the team and most importantly, those that were the reason the team won the Championship. While a debate is warranted over whether Michael Jordan could have used his fame to better race relations, Hodges’ timing was off. He was Collin Kaepernick before his time, but it became more of a disruption than constructive. Hodges then shows sour grapes complaining about the All Star Game’s Three Point Shootout, as if anybody even knows about the change to the rules and the addition of the “money ball.” John finishes off the show by questioning the Hall of Fame resumes of Bill Walton and Tony Perez.
Matt and Brett get over their bad feelings from the 1994 strike and get excited about the 1995 ALDS Game 5 between the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees. How good was Ken Griffey Jr? How did David Cone's arm not fall off that night? What were Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada up to? How big of a dump was the Kingdome? How amazing was Nintendo Vince Coleman? All of this and more during this episode of Garage Beers!
In 2009, the New York Yankees were a franchise in transition. Mark Feinsand and Bryan Hoch join us to discuss how the new-look Bronx Bombers managed to win one final World Series with the Core Four of Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Mariano Rivera. A comprehensive history of the 2009 squad's rise to the championship Boasting a mix of homegrown talent and All-Star signings, the 2009 Yankees were composed of the very best. With the previous season's failed playoff bid still as fresh as the paint job on the new Yankee Stadium, a 27th championship flag represented the singular objective of a squad that ultimately carved out a unique spot among the Yankees' pantheon of World Series teams. It was the last title for the "Core Four"—Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte—who would each retire over the course of the next five years. It was the lone title for Alex Rodriguez, Mark Teixeira, A.J. Burnett, and Nick Swisher, each of whom saw memorable peaks and valleys during their time in the Bronx. For CC Sabathia and Brett Gardner, it was their first championship, though the veterans were still in pinstripes as the latest generation of Yankees arrived for what they hope will be the next dynasty. Dana Cavalea is the former strength, conditioning and performance coach for the New York Yankees and author of, “Habits of a Champion, Nobody Becomes a Champion By Accident.” He started in baseball as an underperforming player, knowing he would never make it to the major leagues. In 2002, at 19 years old, he was given the opportunity to be a towel/weight room cleanup guy for the Yankee’s – he quickly jumped at the chance. How did Dana make the move from towel guy to strength and conditioning coach? Core and functional training was just taking off in the world of sports. He committed himself to learning everything he could in that sports niche. Players would give him the chance to teach them different stretching techniques (on the side of their other training). His tips were working and players confidence in him and his confidence in himself snowballed. Dana gave players two things other trainers weren’t providing: 1. He could find immediate ways to locate and alleviate pain. He took players like Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter and found where their pain was and gave them tips and tricks to help relieve some pain to get them on the field for their next game. 2. He built relationships with players outside of the stadium. Dana would go to breakfast, lunch and dinner with players and gain comradeship. When players know, like and trust you, you win them over. As a New York native Dana grew up loving the game of baseball. And as a player himself, he always wanted to know what the pros “edge” was. His new book (and this podcast) is packed full of how players like Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera, Mark Teixeira, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada think. He shares what gives baseball’s elite players the edge needed to be a winner–lessons we can all use baseball players or not. ACES 2013 All-Star Party: Jorge Posada by Ralphie Aversa
Derek Jeter. Mariano Rivera. Jorge Posada. Andy Pettitte. Tracing the careers of four instrumental players who turned around the New York Yankees, Core Four shares behind-the-scenes stories from their early days together in the minors through the 2012 season, and follows them on their majestic ride to the top of the baseball world. At a time when the Yankees were in free fall, having failed to win a World Series in 17 years and had not played in one in 14 years -- the Bronx Bombers’ longest drought since before the days of Babe Ruth -- along came four young players whose powerful impact returned the franchise to its former glory. Phil Pepe is the author of more than 50 books on sports, including Few and Chosen Yankees: Defining Yankee Greatness Across the Eras, The Yankees: An Authorized History of the New York Yankees, as well as a biography of Yogi Berra, and collaborations with New York Yankee legends Mickey Mantle, Billy Martin, and Whitey Ford. He is a former Yankees beat writer for the New York Daily News and a past president of the Baseball Writers Association of America. The legendary Phil Pepe filled the Clubhouse with fascinating stories about the Core Four, Yankees history, and a touching memory about Jackie Robinson and Branch Rickey. Listen and enjoy...
It was a big sports weekend where the NHL and NFL dominated, however it is always a good time to talk some baseball...the offseason may continue to be rather uneventful for the Red Sox from a player personnel standpoint, but as Alex points out, there is still work to be done in regards to improving the starting rotation. However, Alex says the work is done in regards to adding to the bullpen and RF. And oh yeah, please do not bring Jason Varitek back... Former Red Sox PR man Doug Bailey penned a supposed "tell all" piece in Boston Magazine this month. How revealing is it? Does Doug Bailey have a bit of a grandiose sense of self-worth? In the "Around the League" segment, Alex looks at Carlos Zambrano being shipped to the Marlins and Theo continuing his habit of eating a lot of money. Alex also talks about the Cubs acquiring Anthony Rizzo, and how Jed Hoyer must really, really like him. By the way, Prince Fielder is still out there... Jorge Posada retired this week, and though he isn't quite a Hall of Famer, Alex explains that he had a terrific career. The top 5 storylines from this offseason as 2012 begins are revealed as well. Post on the message boards at www.thesportsstuff.com/boards. Signing up is free, quick, and easy. Feel free to email Alex as well at Alexredsox076@aol.com and follow him on twitter @AlexReimer1. "The Alex Reimer Show" airs Saturday's from 2-4 PM EST on WGAM "The Game" (900 AM Nashua/1250 AM Manchester) and online at www.wgamradio.com.
