School zone speed limits are changing from 25 mph to 20 mph across Fresno, according to the City of Fresno. On Tuesday, officials said on Facebook that new signs are being installed near schools throughout the city. Pomona officials issued an apology after adult content was apparently included in the city’s recently mailed recreation guide. Officials said the materials were not approved for inclusion in the guide and emphasized that their appearance was unintentional. Engineer Aaron Lindenberg is an expert in the ways atoms and electrons move through materials. He uses X-ray “flash photography” to make movies of atoms moving at ultrafast speeds to predict the fundamental limits of electronics in future consumer devices, solar cells, and AI chips. He estimates we are “many orders of magnitude away” from the physical limits of both speed and energy efficiency in our electronics. Does Wellington's waterfront need a cycle speed limit after a handful of collisions and injuries? Cycling advocate Patrick Morgan spoke to John Campbell.

A Wellington residents association is calling for a speed limit for cyclists on shared pathways along the city's harbour side promenade citing a handful of collisions and injuries along the stretch. But the city's mayor says a fifteen kilometre per hour limit is a step too far and people need to exercise their common sense when travelling the route. Reporter Bill Hickman spoke to locals.

Clare County Council claims it's "working with" Transport Infrastructure Ireland to implement a speed limit reduction on a West Clare national secondary road. Fianna Fáil Councillor Michael Shannon is calling for the speed limit to be reduced from 80 to 60 kilometres per hour at Darragh on the N68 amid safety concerns. The local authority needs written consent from TII to alter speed limits on national secondary roads but it's told Councillor Shannon it's "working with TII, the Members and the local community to deliver a safety scheme at this location". The Quilty representative claims Clare isn't getting its fair share of roads funding.

Phase 2 of the national speed limit review process has commenced. Work has begun to facilitate the introduction of a 30kmh special speed limit in built-up and urban areas in County Clare. The government circular has indicated that all byelaws are brought to the Elected Members for adoption by 30th October 2026 with an implementation date of 31st March 2027. It is the intention to propose a 30kph speed limit in urban cores of towns where there is significant interaction with vulnerable road users and a greater concentration of economic activity and footfall. All proposals will be determined in accordance with the latest “Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits”. Mapping of the proposed speed limits is now being prepared for workshops with the Elected Members in Q2 following consultation with the Gardai. A speed limit reduction could soon be implemented on a busy Clare road where professional drivers are said to be persistently flouting the law. It's come amid concerns raised over buses consistently speeding on the Tullvarraga Road near St Conaire's National School. Shannon Municipal District has confirmed it will carry out a speed survey on the route, following calls for the limit to be reduced to 30km/h. Shannon Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy believes it's a necessary intervention.

Lowering speed limits will save petrol during a time of global fuel insecurity and lives too according to the Global Road Safety Partnership. It is calling on the government to immediately reduce speed limits from100 kilometres an hour to 80 on rural highways. Former science adviser to the Ministry of Transport and University of Canterbury Professor, Simon Kingham spoke to Lisa Owen.
