TALK TO ME, TEXT ITThe beautiful innocence of childhood provides a stark contrast to the troubling headlines that dominate our news cycle. This morning's reflections begin with a heartwarming story about a weekend park adventure with my grandson, who surprised me by conquering the big slide he'd always feared. His sweet, uninhibited approach to making friends on the playground—"Hey, you want to play with me?"—serves as a powerful reminder of humanity's natural desire for connection before life's complications set in.Against this backdrop of joy comes the sobering reality of two mass shootings perpetrated by Iraq war veterans. The Michigan church attack and North Carolina restaurant shooting share disturbing similarities that point to potential failures in supporting those who've served our country. The North Carolina case particularly stands out with the shooter's history of filing conspiracy-laden lawsuits, raising questions about mental health resources available to veterans after combat. These tragedies demand we examine how we're caring for those who've sacrificed so much.Finding confidence in our authentic selves emerges as another powerful theme as we discuss Jasmine Mitchell from The Great British Bake Off, who proudly represents the alopecia community. Her decision to forego wigs resonates deeply with my own journey toward embracing baldness. After years of alternating between wigs and going without, I've finally recognized that true freedom comes from accepting ourselves as we are—something my husband has been telling me for years. On this National Coffee Day, perhaps we can all reflect on how we take life like many take their coffee: in its purest form, without unnecessary additions masking its true essence. I think my liver is going to file a lawsuit against me. Oktoberfest 2025 is in the books and I'm glad…because I need a break! Hope you had a blast this weekend and didn't get in too much trouble. In the news this morning, more shootings in America this weekend. One at a church in Michigan, one at a waterfront bar in North Carolina, and a drive-by shooting in Sheboygan Falls last week. Also in the news, a candidate for Governor of Wisconsin drops out of the race. The Brewers wrapped up the regular season with a win over the Reds yesterday, the Packers played to a 40-40 tie with the Cowboys last night, and a look at the upcoming MLB playoffs. Plus, Lamar Jackson injures his hamstring, and the NASCAR results from yesterday's race at Kansas. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and what we watched over the weekend. And have you seen this statue of Tina Turner that just got unveiled in her hometown? It's another in a loooooooooooong line of interesting-looking attempts. Elsewhere in sports, the NFL officially announced that it'll be Bad Bunny doing the halftime show at this season's Super Bowl, the Steelers backup QB apparently got beaten up & robbed while bar-hopping in Ireland, and a look at what the hell happened at this weekend's Ryder Cup. We shared a bunch of stats & info for "National Coffee Day" along with some deals at national chains. Couple of cool stories to lighten the mood on a Monday: An extremely rare orange lobster gets saved from a tank at the grocery store, some kids got dropped off at school by a steam train last week, and a guy in Canada who takes his wiener dog for a walk while wearing a matching wiener dog blow-up costume. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a couple of guys from Texas who had a fight about a Netflix account that ended in gunfire, a #FloridaThrouple that didn't end well, a guy in NY who admitted to killing his parents while filming an interview, a teacher in Texas who fed a kitten to a snake in front of some students, and people in China are apparently selling their fingernail clippings online.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
