In this weeks episode I have the pleasure of talking to post-partum anxiety expert Allison Lieberman. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, postpartum anxiety expert, mom of 2, and 2x postpartum anxiety survivor. She is the co-founder of Rooted in Harmony Counseling, a California-based group therapy practice dedicated to helping moms with anxiety, relationships, and parenting. She is the host of The New Mama Mentor® Podcast and creator of The New Mama Mentor® Signature Program In other words, she is THE person to talk to about post-partum anxiety. We are talking everything to do with post-partum anxiety; Why is it often misdiagnosed, or missed? Why does the wider public, including healthcare professionals, not realise this is a thing? (As an aside, I REALLY struggled to even find a "post-partum anxiety" image to go with the podcast..."post-partum depression" however was not at all a problem)How can you diagnose it yourself, what does it look like? What can you do about it?And much more. You can find Allison in all the usual places; Her websiteHer fantastic podcastInstagramAnd FacebookIn the news this week;Of course I touch on the crazy decision by the US Supreme Court but mainly so I get to link to this wonderful pro-choice resource someone created that has A TONNE of links in it that will help. The information is constantly updated so this is a must have.I also go over this article from the Telegraph which, basically, seems to be written by Matt Roberts who is their go-to PT. The fundamental flaw of the article is what I will discuss because you REALLY should not take articles like this seriously at all and you definitely should not base your fitness regime on nonsense such as this.Remember to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the competitions, wisdom and cute videos. What do you do when you're a new mom sitting in your bedroom trying to breastfeed in the dark, googling "how to get baby to latch", and feeling so alone?Maybe the hospital gave you support but once you arrived home, it became all about baby and no one was helping to take care of you.If that is a struggle you went through (or are continuing to go through), you are absolutely not alone. This is so common, in fact, that Allison Lieberman, a licensed marriage and family therapist, perinatal mental health and certified Clini-Coach®, decided to create an entire program around it. Allie Lieberman is the CEO/Founder of Rooted in Harmony Counseling, a virtual group counseling practice in California. She was seeing in her own practice that moms needed help way before they arrived at therapy but didn't know what to do or who to turn to. There was a huge gap that needed to be filled, so she then created The New Mama Mentor®, a coaching practice dedicated to working new moms.In this episode, we talk about:How she recognized that her career in child services was not what she wanted to do anymoreStarting a business as someone who has never been an entrepreneur or worked for herself beforeThe importance connections and community with like-minded people has on your growthThe odd era we are in of Millennials being told not to talk about their emotions but the extremely high stress and challenging environment we are living in today Learning how to advocate for yourself and speak up if something doesn't feel right If you're a mama (or really a woman who knows a mama who needs to hear this!) and want to learn how to advocate for yourself and speak up if something doesn't feel right, this is for you. In this week's episode I am chatting with therapist Allison Lieberman. Her specialty is postpartum mental health, and the focus of our chat is postpartum anxiety. PPA is seriously under-diagnosed - Allie does an awesome job of explaining why this is, and explaining the symptoms that come along with this condition. She shares her story of what led her to specialize in this area, and her own experience with postpartum anxiety. We also get into the subject of intrusive thoughts, which I feel needs to be spoken about more, as they're one of those things that can make you feel isolated and like there is something "wrong." Allie is an incredible source of knowledge and support, helping to clarify that postpartum anxiety is normal, very common, and what you can do if you recognize some of these symptoms in yourself. This is an important conversation, and the more attention we can bring to this subject, the more support moms will be able to access. You can find the full show notes, Allie's bio, and contact details at www.momcamplife.com/podcast.
