We have talked about losing a loved one on the podcast before but often have focused on the grief that comes afterwards and not as much on the moment of when someone first learns of that loss. This week's story covers this moment but with a twist.Jessica Ritchie has had several challenges in her life, but for her, the one that stands out is the moment a national news headline led her to genuinely believe her husband had died in a police shoot out. She had been making small changes up until that point, but the response she felt to that moment and the way that she reacted made her realise she had to make a change. It's what led her to completely overhaul her business and life and it formed the basis of her book.In this episode she shares:The time her husband was caught in enormous shooting incident and she didn't know if he was alive or notThe anxiety and stress that came from not being able to find out about her husbands safetyThe time she found her baby brother in a comatose state when she was a childThe days after her husband came home after the shootingHow traumatic experiences caused her to disconnect herself from her husband and loved ones so she wouldn't feel the pain again. Her significant personal challenges of floods, cancer diagnoses in close friends, and personal health struggles and having children when doctors said it wasn't possibleThe creation of a methodology based on mindset, authenticity, resilience, and kindness Key Quotes“I went through grief. I felt like every cell in my body changed because to me, my husband had died.”“When I was 5 I found my brother in a comatose state due to juvenile diabetes.”“So I turned it on, and there, straight up on national news was the headline, Helidon police officer, father of 2, shot and killed in the line of duty.”More about Jessicawww.transformationalbrandlab.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/ritchiejessica/https://www.instagram.com/the.jessica.ritchie/ https://www.facebook.com/thejessicaritchie/You can get involved with the podcast onlineTo try out our resilience course: https://www.challengesthatchangeus.com/surviving-2-thriving-course1On facebook in our community: https://www.facebook.com/groups/challengesthatchangeusOr on Instagram: @challengesthatchangeusIf you want to contact the podcast, email us here: support@challengesthatchangeus.comOr check out our website: www.Challengesthatchangeus.comIf you want to find out more about what Ali does, check out her business via the website: http://www.trialtitudeperformance.com.auFor her other business you can find it through the websites: www.altitudefitnessarmidale.com.au Hosted on Acast. During our winter break during the month of December, we are featuring a few of our most popular episodes that you might have missed during the busy school year. We are in a new era regarding the perception of private schools, mostly due to the new perspective we have because of the COVID implications on learning. For most students, distance learning is NOT the best answer for optimum learning. We have seen an increasing trend of many students going to private schools, but questions remain about IEPs, reimbursements, and how it all works. Let's take a closer look!Show Highlights:Understanding the terminology: private schools and non-public schools (NPS)How private schools differ from one anotherReasons a child might need a private school environment to make progressWhat the law requires for parents to receive reimbursement for educational services for a student in a private school:A statement that what the district offers/proposes is not appropriate for your childThe non-public school has to be appropriate in the services offered. Why the reimbursement hinges on enforcement through due process–and may not be a 100% reimbursement but might be limited to what is deemed “appropriate”Why the law requires the parent to give notice (i.e. ten-day letter) to the school district about placing the child in private school and seeking reimbursementLinks/Resources:Contact us on social media or through our website for more information on the IEP Learning Center: www.inclusiveeducationproject.org Thank you for listening! For Emily and Dan, one of their core family values supporting their parenting style is being different. Embodying their uniqueness as it serves their family context best helps their children understand why they may make different choices from their friend's parents and why that is OK.Emily sums up her research about the four core parenting styles. Dan points out the challenges of identifying the parenting styles you're perpetuating from your childhood just because it feels familiar. He also highlights the need to recognize your ideal parenting style versus your actual parenting style. Identifying and understanding your own parent's parenting style can also help to identify your own. 1. Authoritarian: because-I-said-so style parenting, decision-making logic not shared from parent to child, relates to tiger parenting2. Authoritative: balance between structure and independence, related to lighthouse parenting3. Permissive: parents act more as a peer to the child, relates to free range and hands-off parenting styles4. Uninvolved parenting: limited interaction between parent and childThe duo have learned a lot about these styles from parenting books and especially one of their favorite shows, Supernanny, and conclude the survey by trying to identify their own style.Stay in the loop and sign up for the Great Job! newsletter.Episode Outline: (00:28) Being different as a family value(04:50) The Halloween tweet that divided the internet(10:26) Authoritarian style parenting(13:54) Authoritative style parenting(15:46) Permissive style parenting(21:18) Learning conflict resolution from Supernanny(25:14) Emily and Dan identify their parenting styleConnect with Dan and Emily: Great Job! On July 1, 1874, 6-year-old Walter and 4-year-old Charley Ross were playing outside in the front of their home when two men drove by in a horse and carriage. After riding by a few days earlier and offering the boys candy, imagine their delight when the same men offered to buy them firecrackers! Charley and Walter both jumped into the men's wagon and rode off to town to stock up on fireworks for the upcoming holiday. When Walter went inside to make his purchase, Charley stayed with the men, who quickly rode away, leaving Walter behind. This is the story of the first kidnapping for ransom case ever documented in United States history, and what lengths his father, Christian, went through to try to bring his son back home.If you have information on missing or exploited children in your area, visit www.missingkids.org or call 1.800.THE.LOST or 1.800.843.5678.Dang to be Found and Dying to be Found: The DASH are now part of Sound Slice Audio Productions! In this episode, I speak with Lauren Pearce a 34-year-old visual artist from Cleveland Ohio. Lauren shares her incredible journey as an artist from her financial hardships, exacerbated by her role as a single parent to a child with autism which brought her to moments of emotional and financial vulnerability. The struggle to sell her art intensified these challenges, leading her to question both her artistic value and her role as a provider for her family. Lauren also speaks about her commitment to her authentic creative voice even in the face of potential adversity. She highlights the profound impact of art that forges emotional connection as an artist's core responsibility which is storytelling rather than conforming to trends or pursuing purely commercial success. Her perspective challenges conventional norms, asserting that artists play a significant role in shifting paradigms and sparking change through their work.We also talk about: The challenges of maintaining authenticity while juggling commercial demands. The value of saying "no" and setting healthy boundaries to preserve mental health and artistic integrity. Her collaborative show with her son aimed at raising awareness about having an autistic childThe significance of incorporating her own healing journey into her art and creating a space for viewers to resonate with her strength and experiences. Her intention to create pieces that allow people to feel joyful, at peace, and free from burdens. Are you ready to unlock the power of your beliefs and transform your life? Look no further than this podcast, featuring profound insights from Lion Goodman. At the age of 26, Lion Goodman was shot in the head 4 times. This near-death experience kick-started his five decades of research into the nature of consciousness, developmental psychology, spirituality, and healing. Lion created the clear beliefs method of trauma-informed therapeutic coaching, which he has taught to more than 500 coaches healers, and therapists around the world. In a single session, Lion can eliminate a client's limiting or negative belief from their subconscious mind, heal a childhood wound, or resolve a trauma from the past. The clear beliefs method is a multidimensional approach to rapid and deep healing. As Lion explains, our beliefs are the foundation of our experiences. They shape how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. If we want to make real, lasting changes in our lives, we need to start by changing our beliefs. Lion explains that our beliefs are like outfits that we try on, and we can choose to keep them or discard them based on how they make us feel.Lion has helped hundreds of coaches, healers, and therapists around the world transform their clients' lives. Lion's approach goes beyond traditional therapy to disrupt and change deep patterns in the subconscious mind. He uses a variety of tools and methodologies to go back to the originating experience and change the beliefs that are holding us back. So if you're ready to transform your life, start by exploring your beliefs.Quote from the episode: "Whatever's going on at the surface of your life has a cause. And that cause is down there in the subconscious belief matrix. And it can be changed."Key highlights:Lion's near-death experience of being shot 4 times and how his life transformed from that momentCompassion and love are stronger than violenceHow Lion helps people healAn exercise that shows how beliefs create our experiencesRelocating our inner childThe work is going inward and not looking at the outside world for answersConnect with Lion Goodman:Website: liongoodman.com | clearbeliefs.com | clearyourbeliefs.comConnect with Alison:Instagram: @alisonanswers | @lagercounselingWebsite: LagerCounseling.comYouTube: Alison AnswersFacebook: Alison Lager Lcsw CasacPurchase Alison's book: “The Wake Up Call”Alison Answers Facebook Group: Join HEREWomen of Excellence FB group: Join HERE

This is the story of the first kidnapping for ransom case ever documented in United States history, and what lengths his father, Christian, went through to try to bring his son back home.Listen to new DASH episodes every Wednesday wherever you get your podcasts! https://302.buzz/PM-WhatAreYourThoughtsChild abuse has long been a troubling and widespread issue, and sadly, it seems to be getting worse. Munchausen by Proxy (MBP), often known as somatic illnesses or medical child abuse, is one particularly nefarious kind of child maltreatment. Children's health and safety may be seriously impacted by this type of child abuse. Clinicians must be aware of the symptoms and warning signs of MBP in order to safeguard children against this condition. Dr. Nasuh Malas returns to the show to talk about this issue and give practical advice for clinicians. [00:33 -11:27] Any New Findings Regarding Somatic Disorders and Munchausen By Proxy?Somatic disorders, such as somatic symptom disorder, are characterized by physical symptoms that cannot be explained by a medical condition, and are often caused by stress or depression.Studies have found that individuals with somatic disorders are more likely to engage in Munchausen by proxy behaviors than those without the disorder. These findings have important implications for the diagnosis and treatment of both disorders, as well as for preventative measures against child abuse.Early detection of somatic disorders in parents or caregivers is crucial in order to identify potential risk factors for Munchausen by proxy.Mental health professionals should be aware of the link between somatic disorders and Munchausen by proxy when assessing patients for these conditions. [11:28- 25:17] What the Psychiatrist can offer?Psychiatric assessments are used to identify and diagnose the underlying psychological and emotional issues that may be driving the patient's symptoms.Psychiatrists can also provide psychotherapy, which can help the patient better understand and cope with their symptoms, as well as explore the underlying causes of the disorder.Psychiatrists may also recommend lifestyle changes or other forms of therapy to help the patient better manage their symptoms. Collaborative care is often recommended for treatment of somatic disorders, as a team of healthcare professionals can provide comprehensive care for the patient.Psychiatry is a crucial part of the treatment for somatic disorders, such as Munchausen by Proxy (MBP), as it offers a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and management of psychiatric disorders.[25:18 -34:57] Red Flags to Watch Out For Red flags for Munchausen by Proxy include: disregarding medical advice, iatrogenic injury to the child, isolating the child from normal routine, fading or lying about symptoms, and meeting psychological needs through the child's illnessChildren with somatic symptom and related disorders may develop an identity of being physically ill, which can be reinforced by their caregiverCaregivers may selectively accept certain aspects of a child's evaluation and treatment and disregard evidence that does not fit their belief about the child's condition It is important for healthcare professionals to be aware of these issues and engage with families in a way that addresses their concerns and promotes the well-being of the childThe continuum between somatic disorders and Munchausen by Proxy can be difficult to navigate, but it is essential to consider both physical and psychological factors in the evaluation and treatment of the child. [34:58 - 43:32] Recommendations from Dr. MalasHave handouts available for patients and families to learn more about somatic symptom disordersConsider working with...
In episode#102, our guest is Christina Cannes, she is a coach, hypnotherapist and nutritionist, and she's also had mediumship abilities since was a child, and has experience navigating past lives. In February 1957, a young boy was discovered inside an abandoned box in the woods near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Many clues were left behind, including a blue corduroy hat, a handkerchief, and information on the box itself. Police followed every possible lead, but 65 years later, they are no closer to finding John Doe's identity. Investigators, the local funeral home, plus the Vidocq Society gave the boy a proper funeral, where toys and fresh flowers are left to this day, If you have any information on this case, you should contact the Philadelphia Police Homicide Division at 215-686-3334 or the Philadelphia Medical Examiner at 215-685-7445 OR 215-685-7458.Listen to new episodes every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts! I haven't done a solocast in a while, but when you talk, I listen, and this topic has been requested by many of you, so I decided to dedicate this episode to talk about navigating big life transitions with differently wired kids. Our family has gone through our fair share of big changes, which you'll hear all about in this episode, so this is something that I've spent a lot of time thinking about. Especially as a parent of a differently wired kid, I know that there are some extra challenges that might come up when their routines, environment, life circumstances, or supports change, and our kids are also more likely to be resistant to changes (even if they are beneficial). So today I'll be sharing the strategies I've personally found helpful while going through big transitions with Asher. In this episode, I talk about key things such as why being honest when communicating with your kid is so important to help them understand and process change, how being vulnerable can be a way to show support, how to validate our kids' feelings about the changes or transitions, and how to identify their concerns so you can make plans to address them in advance. I also share about what adjustment disorder is and the kind of extra support you might need during transitions. Tilt Parenting Founder & CEO Debbie Reber (MA) is a parenting activist, bestselling author, podcast host, and speaker. A certified Positive Discipline trainer and a regular contributor to Psychology Today and ADDitude Magazine, Debbie's most recent book is Differently Wired: Raising an Exceptional Child in a Conventional World. Debbie's Tilt Parenting Podcast is the top performing podcast for parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals raising and supporting neurodivergent children, and has more than 4 million downloads. In November 2018, she spoke at TEDxAmsterdam, delivering a talk entitled Why the Future Will Be Differently Wired. In the summer of 2020, she co-created the Parenting in Place Masterclass series.Things you'll learn from this episodeThe benefits and growth that can come from navigating big changes as a familyWhy honesty is so important when communicating with your child about big changesWhat to share versus what not to share with your child about the transitions you go throughHow to validate the big emotions and thoughts that big transitions can bring up in your childThe importance of doing your own work as a parent to be able to support our kids during transitionsWhat adjustment disorder is and the extra support you might need to help your child through oneHow being vulnerable with your kids can be really supportive for themIdentifying the concerns that our kids have and coming up with plans to address them in advanceCreating new routines to create security for our kids during big transitions For more info, visit: https://www.tiltparenting.com/session301Support the show
