This week's guest Allison Lieberman owns a marriage and family therapy practice in California and focuses her energies on helping new moms and new parents transition into motherhood and parenthood. Most people who experience pregnancy loss do go on to have healthy, full-term babies. However, sometimes, we can experience a range of emotions that we weren't expecting once we have that baby in our arms. In today's episode, I speak with Allison Liberman, founder of The New Mama Mentor. Allison hosts The New Mama Mentor podcast, and she addresses how we transition from pregnancy to parenthood. New parents can feel very overwhelmed, and if you have experienced pregnancy loss, those overwhelmed feelings might feel even more overwhelming! Here is my favorite quote from this interview: "If you take the full spectrum of crayons and you color with it, it's going to look brown. Well that's what I call anger. It's usually a handful of emotions that we are coloring the world with." I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode. What do you do when you're a new mom sitting in your bedroom trying to breastfeed in the dark, googling "how to get baby to latch", and feeling so alone?Maybe the hospital gave you support but once you arrived home, it became all about baby and no one was helping to take care of you.If that is a struggle you went through (or are continuing to go through), you are absolutely not alone. This is so common, in fact, that Allison Lieberman, a licensed marriage and family therapist, perinatal mental health and certified Clini-Coach®, decided to create an entire program around it. Allie Lieberman is the CEO/Founder of Rooted in Harmony Counseling, a virtual group counseling practice in California. She was seeing in her own practice that moms needed help way before they arrived at therapy but didn't know what to do or who to turn to. There was a huge gap that needed to be filled, so she then created The New Mama Mentor®, a coaching practice dedicated to working new moms.In this episode, we talk about:How she recognized that her career in child services was not what she wanted to do anymoreStarting a business as someone who has never been an entrepreneur or worked for herself beforeThe importance connections and community with like-minded people has on your growthThe odd era we are in of Millennials being told not to talk about their emotions but the extremely high stress and challenging environment we are living in today Learning how to advocate for yourself and speak up if something doesn't feel right If you're a mama (or really a woman who knows a mama who needs to hear this!) and want to learn how to advocate for yourself and speak up if something doesn't feel right, this is for you.
