The Daniel Residence is a modern re-interpretation of the shotgun typology responding to both the owner's Louisiana roots and the long narrow nature of her property. Visitors enter past the formal sitting room into a central vestibule which flows in an enfilade procession between kitchen / dining and the sitting. In section, 11' and 13' ceilings and extensive glazed openings offset the compact planimetric constraints of the site. Beyond the public spaces, a u-shaped stepped retaining system receives the intertwined forms of the principal suite and pool with the principal bedroom occupying a special place of prospect, looking out to the waterline. Back at the vestibule, a floating steel stair takes visitors to the second floor living space where the procession flows to an oversized screened porch overlooking Austin's downtown skyline.April has over 16 years of professional experience in architecture and design specializing in sustainable projects. On this episode of Gen X Amplified, we are back for another #FabulousOver40 Fireside Chat edition, featuring my conversation with Cate Luzio —who is the Founder and CEO of Luminary, a membership-based global education and professional networking platform for women and their allies. And Cate is also one of the shining stars I previously featured in the #FabulousOver40 Spotlight Series on LinkedIn. About Cate Luzio Cate is the Founder and CEO of Luminary, a membership-based global education and professional networking platform for women and their allies, which she launched and self-funded in 2018. Luminary's mission is to address the systemic challenges impacting women across all industries and sectors—while also up-lifting, up-skilling, and propelling women forward through all phases of their professional journeys. Members of Luminary reflect a multigenerational and intersectional community of intrapreneurs, entrepreneurs, and organizations including UBS, JPMorgan Chase, Unilever, Verizon, Goldman Sachs, Mastercard, and others. As CEO, Cate achieved a significant milestone for the business as Luminary recently announced their acquisition of The Cru, the enterprise peer-coaching service founded by Tiffany Dufu that places women in small accountability cohorts. And Tiffany also happens to be one of the phenomenal leaders previously featured in this #FabulousOver40 Spotlight Series. Prior to launching Luminary, Cate cultivated a two-decade successful career as a financial services executive leading global multibillion-dollar businesses. Most recently, Cate served as Global Head of Multinational Corporate Banking for HSBC, where she managed more than 2,000 employees worldwide. Prior to HSBC, she was Head of Multinational Corporate Banking at J.P. Morgan EMEA based in London. Cate initially began her career in China working in tech and then relocated to Latin America with Bank of America to work across both consumer and wholesale banking. No stranger to reward and recognition, Cate was named as American Banker's ‘Most Powerful Women in Banking' multiple years in a row, and is a three-time Financial Times Global Diversity Champion, and a two-time Yahoo Finance Diversity Hero. Cate also serves on the National Board for Girls Inc., is a WE.NYC mentor, and sits on the Boards of Pomp & Whimsy and WaterAid. Having pivoted from a notable career as a financial services corporate leader to become a fearless force championing women in the workplace, Cate stands as a testament to transformative leadership. Rachel Winter is a writer, director, and an Academy Award®-nominated producer for Dallas Buyers Club. She produced LeBron James' biopic, Shooting Stars, and produced and directed the audio drama, Supreme: The Battle for Roe starring Maya Hawke and William H. Macy. It's a nine-part series weaving together the incredible story of the young female lawyer who argued Roe V. Wade in front of the Supreme Court and the Justice who wrote the opinion. She made her directorial debut with The Space Between, starring Kelsey Grammer, for which they both received awards from various Film Festivals. She's got a killer sense of design and a flair for life that always involves color. Rachel Steinman is a writer, teacher, and mental health advocate who hosts the Dear Family, Podcast with inspirational guests who have overcome mental health obstacles to thrive. She received her Masters in Education and teaching credentials from UCLA, has taught every elementary school grade, and has even been the school librarian. She is a lead presenter for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness), going into middle and high schools to educate students, parents, and staff about warning signs while offering resources and hope. She's passionate about getting people to talk about mental health by replacing stigma, shame, and secrecy with love, compassion, and understanding. She loves to laugh and is a great audience. The Rachels call themselves Friendship Ambassadors who believe we should celebrate friendship for how it benefits the community, connection, mental health, longevity, and overall happiness. It's why they wrote Stay Golden, Girls: Friendship is the New Marriage, a fun and bright hardcover gift book made up of light essays, poignant and fun celebrity quotes, and bold, joyful illustrations. We are in the midst of a Barbie/Female empowerment movement and a cultural shift and it's great to see women of all ages embracing "platonic romance.” Together, the Rachels discuss: *Their platonic romance- a best friendship that has lasted over three decades through the ups and downs of careers, marriage, kids, the loss of a parent, and more. *How the pandemic changed how we view friendship. *Why Galentine's Day is the best holiday. *The benefits of mommunes. *An article about seven young Chinese women who pooled their resources and bought a run-down mansion outside the city for their retirement but ended up using it as a gathering place- the inspiration for their book. *The Rachels' amazing group of women friends, in addition to other groups of women worldwide, are starting to prioritize their relationships with their best friends and living healthier, happier lives. *Studies (including The U.S. Surgeon General and the Harvard Happiness Study) show how friendship leads to happiness. Why married men live longer when they are married to women but the reverse is not true for women who are married to men. *What makes old friends so golden. *Why the Rachels partnered with Girls Inc., an organization that is 160 years old that mentors girls and young women. *Why Rachel Winter, who has a full-time job as a producer and a director, puts so much time and effort into getting the book and the message out into the world. *Why Rachel Steinman, a mental health advocate, believes friendship is the best medicine and therapy, and a way to combat the epidemic of loneliness so many are facing. *Why friendship is the new marriage, why we should celebrate platonic romance, why there's a shift in prioritizing friendship, and why you can be intimate with a friend without sex. *How friends can be soulmates and how the Rachels are happily married (to men) and have kids but are each other platonic soulmates. *The Rachels' relationship is like a marriage in that they gave each other rings, opened a joint bank account, swirl each other around when they go dancing, and tell each other they love each other… among other things. *How much fun it is to learn about all the women's friend group chat names. *What happens when there is competition among friends, and how even women of a certain age can feel jealous and competitive with their girlfriends. *What happens when you lose a friend because the relationship feels irreparable. *How to foster friendships and create community and connection. *Examples of how to be a better friend. *What happens when women work together and why we're so much stronger when we're together. *Mother/Daughter relationships and how lucky you are if you can move into the phase of becoming close friends. *Why the ritual of women all over the world getting together to imbibe beverages (coffee, tea, booze) is so important for stress relief, relaxation, connection, and celebration. *Why Ladies' Night/Girls' Trips are so important and how much better we feel afterward. *An example of a great friend date. *The Rachels discuss the new brand they're building, Stay Forever Gold, all about friendship, community, and connection. *The Rachels' letters to their younger selves. *The Rachels' happiness habits. ***** SHOW NOTE LINKS: Stay Forever Gold Website SGG on Amazon Shop SGG on Etsy Instagram- Stay Forever Gold Facebook- Stay Forever Gold TikTok- Stay Forever Gold Blog- Stay Forever Gold on Medium CONNECT WITH DEAR FAMILY,! *Dear Family, Podcast Page *Write Now Rachel Website *Rachel's Blog @Medium *Rachel's Twitter *Facebook *Instagram WAYS TO HELP THE PODCAST: *PLEASE Leave a 5-Star Review and Subscribe! Williams previous experience includes Executive Vice President at Lucky Brand Jeans and Senior Vice President of Product Development and Design for Gap Inc. Williams serves on the board at Girls Inc of Greater Los Angeles and empowerHER. She is an advisor to Every Mother Counts and Bay Area Women's Sports Initiative. Key Takeaways Include:1. Bridging Business and Design: Amy's career trajectory highlights the importance of bridging the gap between business strategy and creative design in the retail industry. She emphasized the significance of understanding consumer preferences, maintaining commercial viability, and fostering collaboration between merchandising and design teams. This balance between creativity and business acumen is crucial for successful product development and brand growth.2. Entrepreneurial Leadership: Amy's transition from corporate roles to entrepreneurial ventures demonstrates her adaptability and leadership versatility. She thrived in both structured corporate environments, such as at Gap Inc., and in more dynamic, entrepreneurial settings, such as at Lucky Brand and Citizens of Humanity. Her ability to navigate different organizational cultures and drive results underscores the importance of entrepreneurial spirit and strategic vision in leadership roles.3. Strategic Distribution Expansion: At Citizens of Humanity, Amy was tasked with developing a distribution strategy to expand beyond traditional wholesale channels. This involved exploring opportunities in specialty retail and e-commerce while working closely with company founders and private equity stakeholders. Amy's focus on diversifying distribution channels and adapting to evolving market trends reflects the agility and foresight required to drive brand expansion and maximize growth potential in the competitive retail landscape.4. Sustainable Growth and Brand Integrity: Amy emphasizes the importance of sustainable growth and brand integrity. Citizens of Humanity and A Golde focus on quality products, investing in design, and maintaining high standards in distribution. They prioritize long-term brand development over short-term financial gains, taking inspiration from European brands that prioritize generational development.5. Strategic Expansion and Retail Experience: The company aims to expand its retail presence thoughtfully, focusing on creating experiential and lifestyle-oriented stores rather than rapid expansion for the sake of growth. They seek to deepen relationships with existing retail partners, improve retail presentations, and explore opportunities for retail expansion in select locations.6. Marketing and Brand Building: Instead of traditional marketing methods, Citizens of Humanity and A Goldie rely on organic brand building and word-of-mouth promotion. They prioritize product quality and strategic partnerships with tastemakers, avoiding paid advertising and focusing on creating a desirable brand image through events, partnerships, and thoughtful product placement.7. Focus on Technology and Operations: While the company acknowledges the importance of technology in advancing their business, they admit to being more focused on other aspects due to their smaller team size. However, they recognize the need for technological advancements, particularly in areas such as inventory management and data analytics. Improving inventory accuracy, tracking product performance, and optimizing operational efficiency through technology are seen as key priorities for future growth and scalability.8. Commitment to Sustainability: Citizens of Humanity and Agolde have made sustainability a core aspect of their brand identity. They prioritize responsible sourcing practices, including the use of regenerative cotton and recycled materials. This commitment extends beyond product quality to environmental stewardship, reflecting a broader ethos of corporate responsibility and long-term sustainability. Their approach demonstrates a blend of ethical considerations with business strategy, positioning them as leaders in sustainable fashion within the industry.

Today is Thursday, December 21st and Happy 74th Birthday to actor Samuel L. Jackson. I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Cobb Fire Demonstrates Dangers of Dry Christmas Trees Investigators Solve 51-year-old Marietta Cold Case Cobb Rejects Request to Modify Guns Out of Mableton Home Plus, Bruce Jenkins sits down with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets to discuss raw milk. BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Cobb Fire Demonstrates Dangers of Dry Christmas Trees Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services in Georgia conducted a demonstration to emphasize the fire hazards associated with dry Christmas trees. The department set two trees ablaze inside its fire training tower, with the first tree, properly watered and maintained, barely burning for a few seconds before extinguishing. The second tree, left unwatered and unmaintained, quickly became engulfed in flames, highlighting the danger of dry trees during the holiday season. The demonstration aimed to raise awareness about the importance of regularly watering Christmas trees to prevent them from becoming highly combustible and posing a fire risk. STORY 2: No. 10: Investigators Solve 51-year-old Marietta Cold Case In 2023, Cobb County's cold case investigators closed the 1972 murder case of nine-year-old Debbie Lynn Randall, who was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. The assailant, William B. Rose of Mableton, was identified through reexamined DNA evidence. Rose died by suicide in 1974. The case had remained a mystery for over 50 years, with investigators pursuing countless leads and even working with a psychic. In October, Girls Inc. of Greater Atlanta dedicated a butterfly garden to Debbie. STORY 3: Cobb Rejects Request to Modify Guns Out of Mableton Home The Cobb Board of Commissioners denied James Frank's request to modify guns on his Mableton property for online sale and gun shows. Frank sought temporary approval, explaining that he would add trigger mechanisms, necessitating a higher federal firearms license classification from the ATF. The Mableton Improvement Coalition opposed the request, arguing that gun manufacturing wasn't suitable for a residential neighborhood. Concerns included potential safety issues and increased crime. Despite Frank's claims of a hobby, evidence suggested a business, leading Commissioner Monique Sheffield to express reservations and motion for denial, which the board approved unanimously. The raise comprises $585,989 for cost-of-living adjustments and $363,300 for merit-based increases, ranging from 1.5% to 3.5% based on yearly evaluations. The salary adjustments will be effective from December 25 through the end of the fiscal year in June. Mayor Derek Norton highlighted the competitive job market and expressed the city's commitment to taking care of its staff. Additionally, the council approved funding for a dehumidification system for the Wolfe Recreation Center pool and a budget amendment for the Turf Field Project. STORY 5: Cobb Says 'No' to Warehouses in Chastain Road Development The Cobb Board of Commissioners rejected a major mixed-use development proposed for Chastain Road, urging a reworking of the project without warehouses. The Atlanta-based Strategic Real Estate Partners had proposed three warehouses, up to 135 townhomes, 200 age-restricted apartments, and retail space. Commissioner JoAnn Birrell called on the developer to remove the warehouses and return with a revised site plan focused on housing, retail, and office space. Over 60 people opposed the project, primarily due to the warehouses. The developer will evaluate the possibility of a revised proposal without warehouses and assess its economic viability.
