POPULARITY
In Episode 106, Seb and Verity are joined for a chat (and some top grade pastry based products) by drumming titan, Darren Beckett.Darren has worked with countless artists including Brandon Flowers, Madeleine Peyroux, Van Morrison and Lauryn Hill and was a member of the band Ambulance LTD. Equally at home across a multitude of styles and genres, recently Darren was the drummer for The National Theatre's multi award winning show Standing At The Sky's Edge.Seb and Verity shared a highly enjoyable afternoon with Darren and after some extensive editing of slander and swears - well, most of them, conversation ranges from his studies in Germany & NYC to being chased by crackheads and meeting Taylor Hawkins.Darren talks about moving away from the pure blood jazz scene in New York into an eclectic range of career choices. Some sterling work is done on behalf of the Eastbourne tourist board and there is a slightly embarrassing and enlightening round of ‘guess the BPM'…..why on earth get into that when your guest is a hugely successful drummer?! We're taking a break from the dream pop resurgence of the 2010s to reminisce over one of Quentin's favorite indie rock records from our high school years: Ambulance LTD's "LP" from 2004. With a frontman in constant struggle to keep his band together, and a bankrupt record label preventing him from releasing new material, Marcus Congleton's Ambulance LTD was rather short-lived. Though they may not have had enough time to evolve their sound and bring it to maturity, a band that once said "their niche is not sticking to any particular niche" somehow managed to release one of the better guitar pop records from 2004; a true gem in the era of cookie cutter indie pop.Tracklist: Primitive (The Way I Treat You) Ophelia Sugar Pill Sugar Pill (demo version) Stay Tuned Drug Cabin - Steely Dad Visit tiestatea.com and use promo code NOFILLER15 for 15% off at checkout. This show is part of the Pantheon Podcast network. This is the episode that you have been waiting for. Instereo brings you Ambulance Ltd and Moving Units, two bands who couldn't be more different stylistically and yet there are similarities to be found...both LP and Dangerous Dreams were released in 2004, both are debut albums by their respective artists and you can find them both on Eric's most played list. Happy Listening...

Lisa Tobias returns to the show and this time, it's personal. The new series on the USA Network, In Plain Sight gets a recommendation. Meanwhile, John goes nuts over the adorable Amy Adams and her equally adorable Chipmunk friend from Enchanted. The two of them rather enjoyed The Air I Breathe, and they give praise to Sarah Michelle Gellar and Brendan Fraser for their standout performances. The dynamic duo of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp plan to bring Dark Shadows to the big screen, while John tries to be optimistic about a fourth Beverly Hills Cop film. Also, Shirley Manson is set to kick ass and look hot next to Summer Glau in the second season of the Terminator series. By the end of the show, a kind listener gives strong, moral support and John makes a big announcement about his future. The following artists can be heard in this episode: RJD2, Beastie Boys, The Chipmunks & The Chipettes, Coldplay, Mark Isham, Mat Kearney, Harold Faltermeyer, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, Feist, DJ Erb & Ludacris, AC/DC, The Posies, Radiohead, Ambulance LTD, William Shatner & Aimee Mann & Ben Folds and The New Radicals.

It has been one year since I moved to Vancouver, so I talk a little about what the whole experience has been like. I also hesitate to say that this is the official, one year episode as Rebecca wants to do some recording on the topic as well. A second part might materialize soon. I also talk about the new podcasting project that I launched this past week. The Crazy Canucks is an extension of the “Hockey Talk” segment from this podcast, but check out the website to get more of the story. Also, I had the opportunity to partake in a project regarding the oldest, surviving film footage of Vancouver from 1907.
