We blast off into the stratosphere with Hum's 1995 masterpiece You'd Prefer An Astronaut, the Champaign, Illinois band's sonic collision of shoegaze shimmer and bone-crushing sludge metal. While MTV latched onto "Stars," the album's real treasures lie in the deep space between those radio moments—massive, swirling guitar walls courtesy of Matt Talbott and Tim Lash that feel like entire galaxies collapsing in slow motion. This is the record that proved heavy music could be beautiful, and shoegaze could absolutely crush. Strap in for lift-off. #171 - No Filler, No Filter: The Truth About Face Yoga and Facial Aging Is it possible to tone and lift your face without fillers, surgery, or a drawer full of pricey serums? According to face yoga experts—and growing research—it just might be. In this episode of Pretty Well, we're diving into what face yoga actually is, how it works, and why it's being called the natural alternative to injectables. I break down the science behind aging skin, fascia, and facial muscle atrophy (it wasn't going to happen to us, I know), and how regular facial exercises may support lymphatic drainage, collagen production, circulation, and that elusive youthful glow. We'll also talk about what face yoga can't fix—and what foundational habits actually make the biggest difference in skin health (great news: it's not another serum). Plus, I share the underrated clinical pearl I've been using on my own skin with surprisingly great results. If you love natural beauty, anti-aging strategies, and simple habits that make a real difference, you'll love this episode. Tune in—and maybe even snap a few “before” photos. Your cheekbones may thank you later. Join the conversation: Share your thoughts with us on social media or in the comments! Subscribe, Share & Review:

We rip open Pathfinder 2E's NPC Core like a loot chest at midnight—all killer, no filler, just gun-wielding witches, charming villains, and side characters spicy enough to steal the spotlight (and maybe your party's gold). #Pathfinder2E, #NPCCoreRules, #PF2GMFuel NPC Core (affiliate link) Show Notes In this episode, the RPGBOT crew opens up Pathfinder 2E's NPC Core and immediately gets lost in the endless possibilities of building bartenders who could solo a dragon and criminals with the fashion sense of a runway model. They dig into the shockingly well-organized stat blocks, and the book's philosophy of making every town guard, blacksmith, or shady fence into a potential campaign highlight. The hosts explore how NPCs are no longer just glorified exposition dumpers or sacrificial goblin #3—they're diplomats, villains, witches with guns (yes, that's a thing), and essential storytelling tools that add flavor and chaos to any scene. Need someone to warn your party that they're about to die horribly? The NPC Core has a stat block for that. Want a non-combatant spy with more plot hooks than a pirate ship? It's in there too. They highlight how the book helps GMs create NPCs that aren't just throwaway extras but fully customizable agents of drama, comedy, or world-ending terror. From themed spell lists to the new relationship subsystem (think: dating sims, but with more stabbing), the crew dives into mechanics and storytelling tricks that make your NPCs actually matter. The episode crescendos in a live-build exercise where the hosts create an unforgettable NPC—part crime boss, part matchmaker, all chaos—and demonstrate how NPC Core can help any GM bring wild new energy to the table. Key Takeaways Monster Hunter Wilds: Yes, it influenced this book, and no, you don't need a 12-foot greatsword to enjoy it. Organized, Beautifully: Stat blocks so clean, you'll cry tears of efficiency. Non-Combatant, Not Non-Important: Some of the best NPCs don't fight—they ruin lives socially. Custom Archetypes Galore: Build a frogfolk librarian who also moonlights as a necromancer. No one can stop you. Gun Witch: Just... gun witch. You're welcome. Villains with Vibes: Give your BBEG a tragic backstory, a fashion-forward cloak, and a snarky catchphrase. Diplomacy is OP: Talking your way through an ambush is now a viable strategy—unless the dice hate you. Magical Shenanigans: Spells aren't just for combat—use them to cook, sneak, charm, or fake your own death for tax reasons. Advanced Relationship Mechanics: Because your players will romance the bartender, and now there's a chart for that. Sample Organizations: Pre-built groups so your GM notes don't look like the scribbles of a sleep-deprived conspiracy theorist. Themed Spell Lists: Pre-curated magic menus for fast flavor and fewer tears. NPC Advancement: Level up your innkeeper until they're ready for the final boss fight. The Connection Subsystem: Build emotional bonds, tragic betrayals, and passive-aggressive tea parties. We say it often on this podcast: the 90s is a bottomless pit of incredible rock music as wide as it is deep. And if you grew up in the United States like we did, you may have slept on arguably the greatest Canadian rock band of all time: The Tragically Hip. From the cryptically beautiful lyricism of frontman Gord Downie to the catchy hooks and song structures of the band behind him, we deep dive into their 1994 record Day For Night and ask the question we find ourselves asking constantly on this podcast: where has this band been all our lives? Ah, the "all killer, no filler" album. Records you can listen to from start to finish without a lull or dip in quality. It's a tougher exercise than one would think, as many of our favorite albums are flawed...perhaps beautifully or purposefully so, but that's not what this episode is about, kids. Joining us for this discussion is Ed Mazzucco and Laura Watling from Portland dream pop/shoegaze band Tears Run Rings. In September 2024, they released their fourth album, Everything In The End. And, true, to this episode's topic, it's a double album ("two hefty boys") that is a front-to-back modern classic., with each side having a distinct tone and feel. Everything In The End is out now of Shelflife Records, which, incidentally, is run by Ed and TRR singer/guitarist Matthew Bice. Since its 1995 roots in a Southern California bedroom, Shelflife has amassed an incredible catalogue of indie pop gems, including highly recommended releases by The Ocean Blue, Close Lobsters, Treasures of Mexico, Acid House Kings, The Caternary Wires, The Shermans, Souvenir, The Luxembourg Signal, Red Sleeping Beauty, Even As We Speak, Jetstream Pony, and much, much more. https://shelflife.com Thanks to Mike Turner from Crashing Through Publicity for the introduction! If you're a fan of guitar-driven rock music, the days of Hendrix, Page, and Halen are long gone. Nowadays, the guitar is rarely front-and-center - and if is, it's usually in the form of a reverb-drenched wall-of-sound or this week's latest grunge homage (don't get me wrong - I'm all in on the grunge revival!). But if you stumbled upon English psych rockers Wolf People and their 2016 record Ruins, you were treated to a collection of guitar riffs so beefy that I'd say guitarists Jack Sharp and Joe Hollick deserve a seat at the table amongst the greats of yesteryear. Truly a gem from the last decade, join us as we dive deep into the fuzz and fury of Wolf People. Brooklynite Jeru The Damaja is a rapper that practiced what he preached. Whilst dropping two iconic "All Killer, No Filler" albums of the 90s, he watched Hip-Hop go commercial and made a point to not get swayed. Instead, he continued as an independent voice and cultivate a dedicated fanbase that love him to this day.TIMESTAMPS:Weekly Music Roundup - (0:56)Ben:Denzel Curry - King of the Mischievous South Vol. 238 Spesh - Mother & GunCharlie:Awon & Phoniks - Golden Era 2OneDa - Formula OneDa (Drops October 4th)Enough Cereals - ImpulseDiamond D - THE DIAM PIECE 3: INITIUM 38 Spesh - Mother & GunKalisway - A Kid From TorontoThe Allergies - Freak The Speaker (Drops September 27th)Essosa - Essie's WorldTopic Intro/Ben's Research House - (12:41)The Sun Rises in the East - (18:18)Wrath of the Math - (25:32)Heroz4Hire - (34:39)Divine Design - (42:54)Still Rising - (48:17)Lighter Note - (57:20) Thanks for listening. Strong Session: Discipline. 10 Minutes, All Killer, No Filler. In this episode, Mark Bottenhorn discusses the importance of discipline and self-control in achieving long-term goals. He shares a quote from Abraham Lincoln that highlights the conflict between immediate desires and long-term aspirations. Mark emphasizes the need for self-awareness and the ability to assess the consequences of our choices. He also talks about the importance of clarity in setting goals and the habit of building resilience. Mark encourages listeners to regularly evaluate their choices and make decisions that align with their long-term goals. The practical application of saying no to things that don't support our goals is also discussed.
Nowadays you can't throw a rock without hitting an indie record that blends sludge of grunge and jangle of alt rock with the fuzz and breathy vocals of shoegaze and dreampop. As niche as that may sound - it is the sound of indie right now. And while Ringo Deathstarr certainly wasn't the first, their 2015 record Pure Mood may well be the first to get it right. Drawing heavy inspiration from 90s grunge and alt metal, the Austin trio's nearly perfect shoegaze record brings new meaning to the wall of sound cliche, and crafts a sound that went on to dominate indie music a decade later. For peak enjoyment of The Soundcarriers, you must first acquire a lava lamp, a Warhol painting, some shag carpet (a rug will do), and put on your best 60s mod score from the thrift store down the street. Everything about this group (down to the font choice in the liner notes) is steeped in the effortlessly cool sound of 60s psychedelic folk. Today we dive into their 2010 record Celeste, where The Soundcarriers mix in 60s/70s library music and avant pop with their psychedelic sound to create an album best enjoyed by tuning in and dropping out.
