We are back after a bit of a break due to holidays and the such. Plus we had to wait for Jason to get through customs after he was detained trying to smuggle acres of Canadian cardboard in his luggage and down his britches. Our feature this month is The Nelvana Reunion panel featuring John Celestri, Larry Jacobs, and Brian Lemay and they talk about their experiences working on the Holiday Special, Droids, and Ewoks cartoons! The panel took place at ‘May the North be with You' in Toronto on August 5th - Thanks to Chris Porteous. Action figure face-off is nearing its conclusion as Andy Preston defends Dengar, Andy Norton loves Luke Jedi, Jason Smith wonders over Warok and Peter Davis delights over the Death Star Droid. Richard Hutchinson has an impossible job trying to choose the winner. Rebel Briefings is jam packed with wondrous tales of collecting, Richard interviews Tom Scaife & others regarding a Pre-production find in the USA, the mystery of Willrow Hood is finally revealed and so much more Star Wars collecting goodness is discussed. The licencee section finishes it all off looking at Fundimensions and their small but perfectly formed releases.
The American Downhiller Podcast is BACK for its second season of educating and entertaining the ski world about what is happening on and off the courses of the world's greatest speed races. Featuring Olympians Doug Lewis, AJ Kitt, Daron Rahlves and Marco Sullivan, the podcast takes you into the starting gates and onto the tracks of the world's fastest races. They will share the behind-the-scenes stories of World Cup racing and also pass along their knowledge to the next generation of speed demons. And along the way, they will invite the Who's Who of Downhill as guests and pick their brains. To kick out of the gate on their first Podcast, their guest is one of the legendary Crazy Canucks Brian Stemmle who's arrival onto the World Cup stage coincided with the retirement of the great Steve Podborski. Brian raced with all four of the hosts and shares his thoughts on this year's World Cup and what's it's like to race Lake Louise as a Canadian.Right out of the gate, the boys talk about the close relationship between the US Ski Team and the Canadian Ski Team from playing hockey together (Canadians ruled) to sharing ski techs and coaches while competing against each other. Early on the teamwork between countries helped both nations gain confidence to compete with the Euros, who did not respect the North Americans at all.Next the hosts dive into their love/hate relationships with their European competitors. Whether it was friendships made on the podium or bonds made in the hospitals, the crew talks about how they formed tight relationships with the “enemies” that helped push them to new heights. Lewis had Zurbriggen. AJ had Heinzer. Daron had the Hermannator. And Marco had Klaus Kroell. Each had a nemesis who inspired great skiing. They then dive into the epic course at Lake Louise and the fact that this may be the last running of this course that has rewarded so many World Cup stars for risking it all. The course has made World Cup legends, but more importantly groomed and taught so many younger racers and prepared them for greatness on the World's stage. The Nor-ams that have been held each year after the World Cup leaves has been such a gift to the development of both Canadian and US racers. The loss of early season Speed training at Lake Louise could be felt for years. Finally, the crew breaks down how to win on the Lake Louise course. All agree that racers have to separate themselves through the Fishnet-Fallaway-Gunbarrel section, but racers can also easily lose it on top and on the high-speed bottom flats. They discuss the optimal Skill-Set of a Lake Louise Winner before each giving their Podium predictions on the Races to be held this weekend up in the great white north. You don't want to miss this inside look at the Opening World Cup downhills on the men's circuit. AND stay tuned for next week's podcast when the boys with have Lindsey Vonn as their guest! Hear from the GOAT herself (who won on this course 18 times), what makes this course one of the best!

First came the Crazy Canucks, then the Canadian Cowboys--could this trio be next? The trio each takes a turn sharing his thoughts on the skiing of the other two, and they all enjoy more than a few laughs along the way. As always, hosts Martin, Cara and Jeff share their “Thoughts of the Day”.

Welcome fans to another episode of The Triple Po! I just today realized that I hadn't released the podcast version of the show, and for that I give most humble apologies. Things slip my pickled mind on occasion. We had the pleasure of talking to Keith Spielman, aka Buddy the Lumberjack from Cellar Door Skeptics. We talk about renewing our acquaintance of around two years. We also talked about his work with Cellar Door Skeptics as the resident Canadian and general ne'er-do-well. Of course, we also had to talk about Canadian stuff, including how conservative his province of Alberta is, the accent, and whatever the fuck a toque is. It's a longer than usual show, clocking in at two hours, but we covered a lot of ground on various and sundry topics. Enjoy!

Go faster. Look ahead. Visualize yourself on the podium and get to the finish line as fast as possible. All of these pieces of advice are perfect for the ski racer standing in the start gate of a gnarly downhill course. They could also be the personal mantra of an entrepreneur seeking to stay at the forefront of technology and dominate a new sector. Brian Fry played both of those parts at various times in his life. Starting out as a downhill racing Crazy Canuck from Rossland, BC, injuries lead him to seek out a new field. The trend of going faster continued as he shifted into the technology industry. From selling computers to fellow students in the mid 80’s, Brian went on to co-found the largest cloud provider in Canada. In this episode we’ll hear his tale from start gates to Bill Gates, and how a couple of guys launched the biggest cloud network in the country.

Rebecca gives a review of her Amazing Hunt experience, we cover a variety of things coming up, look ahead to NorthernVoice 2007, there’s a podcast meetup in Vancouver, and we round it out with Vancouver Trivia. There were a variety of technical issues in this as well, but I didn’t edit it out. Of course, if you want to hear more of the hockey talk, check out The Crazy Canucks. In this episode, we talk about the Northern Voice conference and try to make our case to the organizers of the event as to why we deserve one of the travel bursaries to attend the event. We also talk about Rebecca’s upcoming involvement with the Amazing Hunt in Vancouver. Matthew Good has a new album that he’s recording, and your dear hosts have a few other tidbits to share in that area. [Show Notes Link]Direct Download Link | | Direct download link We’ve been really busy lately, and that has delayed getting this episode out. Rebecca and I took time to record something last night and post it this morning. Rebecca’s really come on board with the podcast, and I highlight some of her awesomeness. In fact, she has secured yet another interview opportunity with a band coming to Vancouver, so we make that announcement as well as discuss the new avenues that RadioZoom is exploring. Being part two of my one year anniversary in Vancouver, we can’t get through this episode without doing some Vancouver Trivia, no matter how much Ubercaster messes up on us. I have to say, I’m really amazed with how much I have learned about this city in the past year. We also take a moment to get to some feedback that we’ve received from listeners. Be sure to check out the ever changing website for RadioZoom. The “RZ Blog” has been added and will feature updates about the podcast. [Show Notes Link]Direct Download Link | | Direct download link I haven’t done anything like this in quite a while, so I decided to take the minidisc and lapel mic with me as I had some things to take care of yesterday. It has been one year since I moved to Vancouver, so I talk a little about what the whole experience has been like. I also hesitate to say that this is the official, one year episode as Rebecca wants to do some recording on the topic as well. A second part might materialize soon. I also talk about the new podcasting project that I launched this past week. The Crazy Canucks is an extension of the “Hockey Talk” segment from this podcast, but check out the website to get more of the story. Also, I had the opportunity to partake in a project regarding the oldest, surviving film footage of Vancouver from 1907.
