This week I spiraled out with the delightfully funny, charming, and ELEVEN TIME EMMY-NOMINATED Ariel Dumas (Head Writer- The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.) We talked the three shameful things that happen to everyone in adulthood, why feeling bad can feel oh so good, the spooky and powerful embodied physicality of shame- and Ariel even tolerated me enthusiastically (and obvs unofficially) diagnosing her with ADHD! Plus, Ariel shares a shame story about accidentally mass emailing HUNDREDS of students a message that likely sent them all careening into their own shame-anxiety spiral! Always enjoy Ariel's work on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and stay tuned for the arrival of her new project, which is a LOONEY TUNES MUSICAL!?!?!?!? Ariel is also consistently hilarious on Twitter @ArielDumas, Instagram @arieldumaspubicaccount and TikTok @arieldoom. Of Course You Realize THIS Means Podcast - A Looney Tunes Discussion
Hello Folks! Welcome to your best source of news surrounding the beloved Looney Tunes! For this episode, I'm joined by Long Time Looney Tunes' Fan, Comedian and Rotten Tomatoes Correspondent, Mark Ellis to discuss the latest happenings over at Warner Bros/Discovery and break down the storytelling convention of Breaking the 4th Wall in film, Tv and Podcasting?! We start off with the news that broke via TvLine.com! The following projects are NOW in need of being purchased to stream and my bet is on Hulu. Batman: Caped Crusader is an animated reimagining of the Batman mythology by way of Batman: The Animated Series‘ own Bruce Timm, with J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves and Ed Brubaker also serving as EPs. Reeves of course directed The Batman, the big screen's most recent live-action take on the Dark Knight (now played by Robert Pattinson), while Abrams — in addition to of course numerous Star Trek and Star Wars projects, plus TV's Lost and Alias — is an EP on HBO Max's still-in-development Justice League Dark series. MERRY LITTLE BATMAN In this animated family action comedy, when a six-year-old Damian Wayne finds himself alone in Wayne Manor, he must transform into “Little Batman” in order to defend his home and Gotham City from the crooks and super-villains intent on destroying Christmas. Mike Roth executive-produces and directs, from a screenplay by Morgan Evans. THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP In this animated movie penned by Kevin Costello, odd couple Porky and Daffy become unlikely heroes when their antics at a local bubble gum factory uncover a secret alien mind-control plot. Against all odds, the two grow determined to save their town — and the world. Pete Browngardt serves as executive producer. - Writer Kevin Costello recently took to Twitter to tell fans that the film is coming together nicely and that it lives up to the brand as only a Daffy and Porky film can! BYE BYE BUNNY The first-ever Looney Tunes Original animated movie musical boasts a screenplay and lyrics by Emmy Award winner Ariel Dumas, a head writer on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (and a huge Looney Tunes fan). The premise: After starring in a long-running Looney Tunes Broadway production, an exhausted Bugs Bunny decides it's time to trade in sold-out shows for life as a regular rabbit. That opens the door for the attention-craving Daffy Duck to bid for the lead role — until he is kidnapped by an obsessive fan who has sinister plans for her favorite stage duck. THE AMAZING WORLD OF GUMBALL: THE MOVIE Series creator Ben Bocquelet is directing and executive-producing this movie, which features a script written by Shane Mack and is designed to serve as a bridge between the original cult animated fantasy series (which ran six seasons on Cartoon Network, from 2011-2019) and the new one, which is titled The Amazing World of Gumball: The Series (and is also still happening). The yet-to-be titled movie begins when Gumball's biggest fan finds the series' “missing episode” and accidentally opens a portal connecting his world to Gumball's cartoon world. Sam Register, Vanessa Brookman and Sarah Fell will also serve as executive producers on the first original production to be ordered from Register and Brookman's Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. Did I Do That To the Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story This animated musical holiday special, written and executive-produced by Wyatt Cenec, and announced in September 2021, finds Jaleel White reprising his legendary nerd character for only the second time since Family Matters ended in 1998. FILMS Discussed: "Annie Hall" “American Psycho” “Fight Club” "Monty Python" “Spaceballs" "Wayne's World" “Ferris Bueller's Day Off” “High Fidelity” “Amélie” "Fleabag" "She-Hulk" Looney Tunes Shorts Discussed: Duck Amuck - (1953) Rabbits Rampage - (1955) Hare Raising Hare - (1946) The Scarlett Pumpernickel (1950) (You can find these shorts on HBOMax... for now) A Meta Compilation of Moments that show off some of the best moments of 4th Wall Breaks in Looney Tunes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJKif9d4cg4 What's your favorite scene where a character broke the 4th wall? You made it! Here is the third part of my SDCC Looney Tunes Coverage! In the Indigo Ballroom, Warner Brothers Animation gracefully conducted a coup de grâce of epic proportions to their competition with 5 New Projects surrounding their Looney Tunes and Tiny Toons IP that are in production simultaneously! And that's not to mention, Coyote Vs. Acme which is another feature film we're getting next year! Eric Bauza moderated the panel and brought out Alex Kirwan, Abe Audish, Nick Cash, Erin Gibson, and Ashleigh Crystal Hairston to the stage to discuss Looney Tunes Cartoons, Tiny Toons Looniversity, and Bugs Bunny Builders! The presentation started with a Birthday Celebration surrounding Tweety's 80th! Then we were given the release date of Nov. 19th and 20th for King Tweety to be broadcast on Cartoon Network and HBO Max the following day! BUGS BUNNY BUILDERS: was next where we were treated to a full episode of the new show aimed at pre-school, but there is a lot to love in this family friendly series. "The world may change but the tunes adapt to fit in it without losing their main character traits." The big take away from this was the character interactions. Here, we'll see Foghorn Leghorn talk it up with Bugs Bunny and there will be so many cameos! LOONEY TUNES CARTOONS: Speaking of deep cut characters; we were given concept are and model sheets for older characters joining these new cartoons! These include Pussyfoot and Marc Anthony, Witch Hazel, Ralph Phillips, The Three Bears, and Sniffles! They brought with them a sneak peek of Hex Appeal, the Witch Hazel short and it is breathtaking! Check it out here: Hex Appeal! Then we were treated to a Comic Con Exclusive, with Ralph Phillips donning the cape and cowl and re-enacting the classic Batman: The Animated Series opening within a day dream! The crowd went nuts for that! A New Batch is on the way and we'll also see the full Witch Hazel short alongside a Halloween Special this FALL! TINY TOONS LOONIVERSITY! Tiny Toons Looniversity showed up with concept art, new details and a casting announcement! Ashleigh Crystal Hairston (Craig of the Creek) will be Babs Bunny in this series which will contain 30 minute episodes! We were also told the leads for the show would be Buster, Babs, Sweetie, Plucky and Hampton. With the faculty being made up of all the classic Tunes you know and love supporting their growth through the Performing Arts School! THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP! TITLE REVEALED! Daffy Duck and Porky Pig star in this Sci-Fi Animated Epic that will have the two idiots trying to save the world in the style of Looney Tunes Cartoons! This will be the first film from that team of Warner Bros Animators and it's written by Kevin Costello (Brigsy Bear.) BYE BYE BUNNY - FEATURE Before we were let out, we were provided an exclusive look from the new Musical Feature written by Ariel Dumas with songs by Tom Kitt who appeared at a piano and ready to sing us a song from the film. The song brought everyone's emotions out as it was set to a visual montage of Bugs Bunny from the Happy Rabbit to What's Opera Doc! and the lyrics were so nuanced I couldn't help but feel the weight of it. THAT'S NOT ALL FOLKS! The Panel may have ended, but it has never been a better time to be a Looney Tunes fan! If you haven't checked out my podcast with 'King Tweety' Director, Careen Ingle, I highly recommend doing so now! WELCOME to the LOONIVERSE! Podcast Producers, Writer and Wife, Sabina Graves, joins me on this episode where we break down all of the latest Looney Tunes announcements over the past month and offer up our review of King Tweety! Available here: https://www.amazon.com/King-Tweety-Eric-Bauza We give King Tweety high praise for being a film that is entertaining from beginning to end with full on twists and turns that you may not see coming; I sure didn't. You'll find yourself quoting the lines days and days after as the writing is wickedly fast paced and unique to these characters, while being true to what has come before. The brotherly-love aspect is a great way to maintain a fresh storyline around Sylvester and Tweety that we haven't seen played out before and the way Granny is used here will make you want to rent the nearest scooter you can find. The animation is solid and the voice work is unmatched! Eric Bauza as Tweety and Sylvester never leave you with a false note. The songs are catchy and you'll want to re-watch it almost immediately! 4/5 Carrots! LOONEY TUNES NEWS: WB has announced that there will a full Looney Tunes panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year and with it announcements, and news regarding our favorite characters! First up; Bugs Bunny Builders: An upcoming interactive television program for preschool children for Cartoon Network and HBO Max. Next Up: MORE HBO MAX CARTOONS Not much is known about the next batch are cartoons for Looney Tunes on HBOMAX, but what is known is that it's sure to be wild and wacky! Can't wait to see what torturous devices Bugs Bunny puts his adversaries through next! MULTIVERSUS: BYE BYE BUNNY: A BRAND NEW MOVIE MUSICAL: Written by Ariel Dumas and Directed by Brandon Jeffords SYNOPSIS: After starring in a long-running Looney Tunes Broadway smash production, an exhausted Bugs Bunny decides it's time to trade in sold-out shows for life as a regular rabbit. Ever the spotlight opportunist, Daffy Duck attempts to step into the lead role, but his star ambitions are quickly sidetracked when he is kidnapped by an obsessive fan who has more sinister plans for her favorite stage duck. With his ticket to Broadway retirement in danger, Bugs sets off on a rescue mission to find Daffy and, with the help of his Looney Tunes co-stars, hopefully, his joy of performing again. AND... While we don't know much about Tiny Toons: Looniversity, I can expect some big announcements in the coming weeks!
