Shortly before the opening on 28 November 2026, Cevdet Erek talks with curator Bettina Spörr about his exhibition and sound installation on Secession's façade. Cevdet Erek Secessions-Ornamentik  29.11.2025 – 22.2.2026 Some of Cevdet Erek's site-specific installations and sonic environments, placed at the intersection of sound, sculpture, and architecture, evolve around the idea of ‘sound ornamentation'. With this term, the artist refers to Adolf Loos's Ornament and Crime (1908) amongst others. This text celebrates lack of ornamentation as the mark of a ‘cultivated' society. Loos' polemic is key to a moralising discourse that once sought to purge architecture of decoration in the name of progress. In that context, ornament – associated with sensuality, femininity, and excess – was condemned as wasteful and irrational. Loos' text linked ornament to primitivism and degeneration, framing modern Western culture as superior to the supposedly ‘undeveloped'. Such rhetoric not only marginalised the close relationship between ornament and abstraction but also exposed the colonial and patriarchal logics underpinning modernist aesthetics. Erek re-enters this ideological terrain, transforming ornamentation from decorative surface into temporal, vibratory structure – one that organises space and perception. In his installations sound is not background but architecture itself – something built, inhabited, and experienced by bodies in motion. Here, ornamentation becomes a verb: it describes the act of tuning, of aligning oneself with surrounding frequencies. Through attention, the visitor becomes part of the composition. In this way, Erek's installations dissolve the boundaries between composer and listener, architecture and inhabitant. More Cevdet Erek was born in Istanbul in 1974, where he lives and works. Knižnice sa podľa neho musia transformovať na komunitné a kreatívne centrá. Táto zmena, ak má byť systémová, však musí prísť zhora no v súčasnosti sú knižnice na chvoste záujmu rezortu kultúry.Na počiatku bolo Slovo, aspoň tak sa to píše v knihe kníh: Biblií. Napokon, sme civilizáciou slova, ale napriek tomu sú knižnice u nás fakticky na chvoste záujmu rezortu kultúry. Hovoríme o divadlách, o filme, o televízií či rozhlase, no knihy – a verejné knižnice, sa stali akousi popoluškou. Tom's Newsmaker guest today is Erek L. Barron. He is the US Attorney for the District of Maryland, which makes him the chief federal law enforcement officer in our state. He supervises a staff of nearly 100 attorneys who investigate and prosecute national security threats, terrorism, narcotics trafficking, organized crime, gang violence, public corruption, cybercrime, financial and healthcare fraud and civil rights violations. Prior to his appointment as US Attorney by President Biden last year, Barron served in the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 24 for six years, and before that, he was a prosecutor in Prince George's County and in Baltimore City, with a focus on violent crime. Mr. Barron is the first African American to hold the post of Maryland US Attorney, and the first Democrat to be nominated for the position in the last 20 years. By this time next month, several important offices at the state and local level will be held by newly elected Democratic officials. Anthony Brown will become the Maryland Attorney General. Wes Moore will become Governor. And Ivan Bates will be sworn in as Baltimore City State's Attorney. Coordination with these and other officials is key to addressing the scourge of violence that has plagued cities like Baltimore for years. Today on LaxStamina for our season finale Bobby sits down with Gannon Univeristy Club Lacrosse. This is an upstart program of sorts. They got their start just a couple season before COVID shut us all down and the start of this program was a family affair. Bobby is joined by student leaders Erek Iwankenko, Luke Smallwood and Josh Pavlovich. Erek Iwanenko started the team with his parents Mary and Dr. Walter Iwanenko. Dr. Iwanenko is the school Provost and Vice President of the Student Experience. Mary is a faculty member at Gannon, the Director of the Health Center and an advisor on the club lacrosse team. The guys say these two are Team Mom and Team Dad. Team Mom and Team Dad are also joined by the proud Team Uncle Edwin Voll. Also a staff member at Gannon and a team advisor. With this power team Gannon went from 8 players in year 1 to 25 this season. This season ended in the Elite Eight in Annapolis at the National Tournament. This is one of a kind episode about student leadership, family and what it takes to start a program from the ground up.
