We're heading back to Pamplico for the epic finale of our Bigham story! If you don't think the story can get any crazier then think again. We last left off with the family having a get together to establish an alibi for Leonard, who was in jail for the murder of Arthur Davis. One problem however, Grover Cleveland Bigham's wife Ruth wasn't on board with the plan... and that's not good for the family business.
My guest today on DITD is Arthur Davis a Director, researcher and Portable Toilet coordinator at the Rich Earth Institute in Brattleboro Vermont. The Rich Earth Institute engages in research, education and technological innovation to advance the use of human waste as a resource. Arthur directs Rich Earth Institute's Urine Nutrient Reclamation Program, which is a community-scale urine recycling program. In this role, Arthur helps get urine from the point of collection, through the treatment process, and finally to farms to use as fertilizer.
Harris County Identified the remains of John and Jane doe found murdered in January of 1981 as those of Harlod Dean Clouse and his wife Tina Gail Linn. Questions still remain, what happened to their baby daughter Hollie Marie Clouse, also who killed them and why? Susan Eads age 19 is found murdered near the Nasa Space Center after a night out with friends in August of 1983. Her murder would go unsolved for decades before advances in Genetic Genealogy would solve her case with the identification of Arthur Davis. Sondra Kay Romber goes missing in October of 1983, she was last seen in the safety of her own home in the middle baking biscuits. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Hello everyone, and happy new year. I'm excited to start this year's series of podcasts with a conversation with my friend Arthur Davis, director of the Urine Nutrient Reclamation Project at the Rich Earth Institute and coordinator of Rich Earth's new festival toilet business. Rich Earth uses human urine to create sustainable fertilizer for farmers. Long time listeners will have heard us talk about the Humanure system we use for our off-grid campuses, but Rich Earth has taken that philosophy and moved it to a community scale, and are the first in the US to do so. This not only means ecologically friendly fertilizer but far fewer waste nutrients in the local water supply. The work their doing is really fascinating and involves some really interesting chemistry. Talking with Arthur was a lot of fun, as he could easily communicate the concepts behind what Rich Earth is doing, as well as the day to day of an operation that collects urine on a community scale. We also touched on a few other sustainable waste management approaches, and how they influenced Arthur's interest in sustainability.
